Bloodsong of the Treeless Lands: Rune Stones Part IV (4e)

Game Master Rev Rosey

Part 4 of the Rune Stones saga.
Set in the wild land of Kargzant. Players went from level 9 to Paragon in this one. Vel retired and was replaced by Tutavak.

Whiteclaw

Spoiler:
Ixu is level 9. As a companion character, she doesn't gain levels or stat increases like a pc and she can't use magic items. As she is a growing dragon, she will gain in power as she gets older and bigger, but it won't be as regular as it is for you. Bear in mind that as you get more powerful, Ixu may end up in situations where she is out of her depth. Good luck trying to explain that one to a baby dragon :)

Ixu looks remarkably smug as cold roils around three of the fey, adding a coating of ice to their shadowy forms.

Hits all but the bloodied one.

Kia puts an arrow to her bow and fires at the bloodied fey.

Paint the bullseye vs AC at F2. 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 321d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Oh, a crit! so that's 3d6 + 13 ⇒ (6, 4, 3) + 13 = 26 damage

Also, F2 takes a -2 penalty to all ranged and area attack and any other attacks against him get a +4 bonus to damage

Even as F2 sneers at Ixu's failed attack, an arrow sings through the air and puts an end to it. Kia is in fine form.

Whiteclaw's turn, I think

Female Gnoll Warden 12 (Icewrought Sentinel)

As if energized by her daughter's breath weapon, Whiteclaw's own fur grows shards of ice and she moves into the midst of the Fey and her axe lays out all around her.

Shift to J9, mark all 3, Form of the Winter Herald as a minor, then Form of Winter Heralds attack. Close Burst 1, targeting AC. Attack rolls vs: F1 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21, F3 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21, and F4 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28. Despite her best efforts, the wily fey manage to evade the worst of Whiteclaw's attacks.

You didn't take their total concealment into account, so you only hit F4

Daggers strike from three sides before the shadowy figures teleport away.

F1 just uses a basic dagger attack.
1d20+11=17. F1 v Whiteclaw. Miss

F3 and F4 both Shadow Blade (Ref). On hit target takes 5 ongoing poison and is slowed (se both)

Kia fires off another arrow, this time at F1, although the target seems mighty hard to hit.

Painting F1 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 211d10 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

If that hits, F1 takes a -2 penalty to all ranged and area attacks to end of Kia's next turn.

Unsure of her next move, Kia stows her bow ready to take out whatever weapon seems most appropriate when the time comes.

33 Arrows

Ah. The perils of updating late and in a hurry. I missed Reason by accident, but I'll drop him into the init order in front of Kia when I get back from classes and update properly.

Sorry, Reason.

Rumbling like a happy geyser, Ixu Palax's aim is good enough to take a chunk out of the fey besetting Reason.

Nodding his gratitude, the tiefling steps back and attempts to bring divine light to fey shadow. As his holy symbol flares, he slightly misses his footing on the tussocky ground and misfires.

Reason shifts back one and sends a Sacred Flame towards F1. On hit, Whiteclaw can make an immediate save.

Sigh. Well anyway, Sustain Minor - Make a Charisma vs. Will attack against any target in range. On a hit, deal radiant damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

Arianwyn moves back to survey the state of the enemy. A halo of flaming stars appears round his brow.

Arianwyn returns to Kia's side and the fey look slightly startled by the abrupt appearance of a starry crown on his head.

"Fool. We already know you're our target, we don't need any more guidance."

Chill seeps from Whiteclaw as she lunges at the fey, but the creature dodges the blow.

Stabbing fruitlessly at the gnoll, it shifts away and then moves gracefully out of the chilling zone around the gnoll. Swift though it is, the creature's failure renders it substantial and it ducks behind a tent.

Dagger Strike (AC). Stalker can shift one before or after the attack (as it's part of the attack power, it can shift in the difficult terrain)
1d20+11=14

Risking attacks from Ixu and Reason, F1 moves to towards its prey. The dragonette wails as her bite passes straight through the shadowy form. Reason merely looks resigned as his mace fails to make any impact.

"They cheat!" she screams in outrage.

F4 contents itself with throwing a spiteful dagger at the warlock and freeing itself from the forces holding it in place.

Sorry to delay further, but I'm pretty certain concealment does not apply to bursts. Still clean miss?

Ah, OK. Didn't register it was a burst. In that case, it hits F1 and F4. F3 still gets cover and is a miss.

M Human (Kargzant) Controller 10

Morgzil thumps his staff a second time, and the ground beneath the hexed spirits shakes, throwing them together on the ground while leaving the allies untouched.

Capricious Earth (burst) vs F1, F4, Will. 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 221d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 Knock prone and slide F1 to K14, F4 to L14.

Female Human Wizard 11 / Master of Flame

Vel emerges from the tent next, clutching her robe closed in one hand and her orb in the other, eyes furious. "What by the hells . . .?"

Seeing the fey, she instinctively summons flames around the two Morgzil threw together.

Move to H7. Scorching Burst vs F1, F4 Ref. -2 for prone. 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 12 - 2 = 171d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 12 - 2 = 291d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
