I must be doing something wrong. Nobody ever catches fire. That's no fun at all.
another immolation - damage 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4) = 7 fort DC 15 for half damage
Spontaneous Immolation (100 ft. + 10 ft./level, one creature, Fortitude half and Reflex)
You point your finger at a creature, causing it to spontaneously burst into flame. The target takes 3d6 points of fire damage and catches on fire. A successful Fortitude save reduces this damage by half and prevents the target from catching on fire. Each round on your turn, a burning target can attempt a new save to extinguish the flames (DC equal to the DC of the spell); otherwise it takes another 1d6 fire damage.

Ralf punches the man in the face, while Ralf goes for the inside of his head and Gelik tries to set him on fire. Badly wounded he lets out a scream, casts Shield on himself (this time successfully) and flies straight up, provoking AoOs from Torch and Ralf.
Then you are up again.
Maestro Gelikugel Aberwhinge |
Gelik nails the man with a Color Spray as soon as he clears melee.

The wizard's magic fends off Torch's and Ralf's AoOs, but Gelik's magic catches him offguard. He is stunned for the moment.
Torch and Ralf still to go, Aerys still being frightened. Since he's stunned, after that you can hit him again. He's hovering some 30 feet above you.
Sam "Torch" McQuarry |
Torch drops his scimitar and grabs for his bow, firing a pair of arrows at the necromancer.
First shot gets sneak attack, I believe, since he's stunned - I think he's technically not stunned as soon as he finishes his turn, though, so I don't think the second one gets it. With those assumptions in mind...
First arrow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 plus 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5 sneak.
Second arrow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6.
Black Tom |
The man drops his spear as he is stunned by Gelik's magic, and Torch's arrow lodges in his throat, knocking him out and ending his flight. He slowly drifts to the ground, unconscious.
And you get 800 xp each for the battle.
He's carrying a magic spear and the mask which is also obviously magic, a magic amulet and 250 gp worth of onyxes, as well as a mundane dagger and a spellbook.
Ralf Pennywhistle |
"Hm. Seems this gent's name was Jigeke and he was practicing black magic. He was looking to get a spear and war mask from Amghawe's tomb, and it looks like he found 'em."
Ralf tries to identify the spear, mask and amulet.

Aerys D Mavato |
After the man fell from the sky, Aerys gingerly returns to the group. "Umm... Got caught short, can't concentrate on a fight when ... well you know ... woman's problems." she says with a voice that still trembles slightly. She looks at the mask that Gelik seems to be studying gleefully, and a cold shudder runs down her back. She doesn't follow Gelik into the tomb, fearful that the mask will bring back to life the terror that struck her when she first saw the mask.
"Torch, these are mighty fine short bows, how do they feel for you in your hands?" she asks placing the bow in his hand and giving him an an ordinary arrow to use. "try and hit that melon fruit over there on that tree." she encourages him to try it. She takes another of the bows and fires an arrow at a nearby tree, watching fly straight and true, as it strikes the tree with greater force than her usual bow. "See Torch how it strikes harder than usual. I shall take one and use it, a good find!"

Black Tom |
You continue on your journey, somewhat awkwardly during such times as Gelik insists on wearing the mask, and after seven more days you finally reach the edge of the jungle.
But as you bed down for the night and during the first watch you hear a strangely entrancing tinkling sound coming from the jungle. Everyone except Ralf needs to make a Will 14 save or be compelled to seek out the source of the tinkling.
Aerys D Mavato |
Will 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Aerys hears the noise which almost takes her in search of the sound. Shaking her head, she is just able to stop herself from following Gelik and Torch. She calls out after Gelik, "Gelik, wait what are you doing." She motions towards Ralf to follow the others at a distance, as she puts on her armour and readies for trouble, by following the others into the jungle.
Black Tom |
As Torch and Gelik obliviously wander into the jungle, some strange-looking little Mwangi men appear, stepping unseen out of the foliage. They resemble ugly gnomes with grayishbrown skin and spindly arms, and they have spiked their hair and beards with lime. Their faces are painted to resemble leering skulls.
Two of them surround Torch and suddenly grow to a fearsome size, while a third, which is a little closer to you, gives Gelik a slash with its halberd for 6 points of damage.
You can roll for initiative, and then I'll fix the map.
Black Tom |
Map is up, sorry about the delay.
Torch recognizes the unpleasant figures as spriggans. The one attacking Gelik is still small, while Torch is flanked by two towering spriggans. Torch and Gelik can act as you please.
You all beat their initiative so go get them. You're in the jungle so all squares are difficult terrain.
Ralf Pennywhistle |
Ralf hits the spriggan next to Gelik and one of the spriggans next to Torch with a Boosted Line Discordant Note (60' line area effect).

Gelik takes a 5' step back from his opponent.
Nimble Moves feat allows 5' of difficult terrain as normal movement, so there shouldn't be an attack of opportunity.
He then casts a quick spell into the little bugger's face.

Difficult terrain makes this a rather unpleasant situation, but oh well.
Torch turns toward the spriggan Ralf managed to wound and follows up with blade and fist.

Aerys is suddenly intercepted by a fourth spriggan (the one with the bell), who steps out of a bush and stabs her for 11 points of damage, and then grows to a fearsome size, as does Gelik's opponent.
Torch's two foes grin cruelly as they slice and dice him between them, their enormous halberds well nigh impossible to avoid in his cramped position. He takes a horrifying 39 points of damage from the slashing blades.
You are all up.
Sam "Torch" McQuarry |
Oh, hey. I'm at 6hp and have no way out of the flank without provoking. I wonder what I should play next?
Torch barely registers the massive wounds at first, so quickly do they cut and slash at him. He looks down though, and thinks, "That's quite a lot of blood. I really don't think I hit him that hard..." just before he staggers slightly and nearly falls over. Forcing himself to stay upright, he focuses his full attention on the wounded spriggan, hoping to at least escape their trap before he dies.
Ranger's focus on the wounded one. Also, praying. Scimitar 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19, damage 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9; cestus 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19, damage 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

I am not digging our tactical situation.
Gelik continues using his Nimble Moves to put distance between himself and the giants (to H19). Feeling very tiny between these brutes, he nevertheless takes a stab at the monster to his east.

Can't say I'm overly impressed with our tactical situation either.
