Best PFS faction for nature themed PC

Pathfinder Society

Scarab Sages

Working on a Samurai Sword Saint of the Order of the Green (see other thread).

Order of the Green is very similar to the Kami (outsider subtype) mentality: keep nature balanced, remove corrupting influences of civilization, destroy undead and aberations. I am allowed to undergo farsighted plans to accomplish this, so working with civilization is okay if it's the only way to protect nature long term.

Which PFS faction is best for nature themes (or just this theme)? None seem particularly nature aligned.

If it matters, I play Lawful Neutral almost exclusively.

I have petitioned multiple times for either a nature oriented faction or at least give one of the existing factions a nature oriented bent but so far nothing has come of it. It's been argued the the Society (in game) has no particular reason to have a nature oriented faction, but the same could be said for a Society faction dedicated to do gooders and we got the Silver Crusade. Hopefully we will get enough requests that a nature oriented faction will also come to pass.

I have, too. Trollbill.

Scarab Sages

Well, if there isn't a nature one, I guess I'll pick on other merits. Thanks.

Count me as another who would welcome a nature based faction. When I started in PFS, my first character was a druid and I had the hardest time to find a faction for him. I ended up choosing the Lantern Lodge due to Jinin being his homeland. When Lantern Lodge was retired he went from Andoran to Liberty's Edge. As a Green Faith Acolyte, he has progressed to the level where he is considered the Archdruid of his village.

A nature based faction led by a druid, shaman, or other nature based character would be a great addition. There have been a lot of scenarios I have seen where the preservation of the natural order was needed.

Grand Lodge 4/5

This could be a valid interpretation of the Silver Crusade's mission to do good works and of the teachings of Sarenrae, Ollysta Zadrian's patron.

The character might find some sympathy, but also some ethical and moral challenges, working with Liberty's Edge (often chaotic) or Scarab Sages (Osirion was always problematic for undead-bashers and of late the faction has been especially tempted to tolerate undead and other weirdos who might provide long-lost knowledge).

Scarab Sages

I'm thinking I'll go with the Exchange or Sovereign Court. Neither are directly pro-nature, but getting trade properly regulated or the "right" nobles in power, would certainly work well for keeping civilization from corrupting nature.

Silver crusade seems more about doing good, than actually preserving what nature actually is (it's neutral).

Dark Archive is the evil version of the silver crusade, but same issue.

Liberty's edge seems too chaotic, more about personal freedoms, than about maintaining balance.

Scarab Sages seems solid until you note that they don't mind undead. That's a hard limit for nature enthusiasts.

The Grand Lodge is neutral, but it doesn't seem overly committed to protecting nature. If anything, the grand lodge would deliberately disrupt nature in order to better catalog it.

Dataphiles 3/5

I have a Dwarven Druid who went Scarab Sages. He just ignores their policy on undead, and goes about his Druidic purge of blights upon Nature. As has been noted there is no perfect fit, and you don't have to subscribe to all of an organizations beliefs to work with them. Your reasoning on Exchange and Sovereign Court are solid though. Makes him sort of like a political activist for Green Peace.

Grand Lodge 2/5

In my opinion, Grand Lodge is a good choice in the sense that it says, "I'm focused on nature, so I don't really have time for the petty politicking of you other factions." That was probably a stronger argument back in the day when many of the factions were tied to a specific nation.

As many people have said before me, there isn't an obvious nature choice. You could make a case for multiple other factions depending on exactly what you want to do with nature, or if there is some other motivating factor for your character.

Silver Crusade 4/5

You could go with Grand Lodge as the default faction, and for 4 prestige points, you could make your character a member of the Green Faith which would be your 'real' faction.

Also, I agree it would be great to see a nature themed faction.

I went with Sovereign Court. I try to recruit king cobras and emperor penguins for the cause.

In truth, with a little lore any faction can be wiggled into what your looking for.

Liberty's Edge is against tyranny and corrupt governments in addition to freedom but one of those corrupting influences in Andoran's government is the Lumber Consortium which has waged a war against nature in its pursue of darkwood.

The Sovereign's Court was born from the Taldor faction, and The Empire of Taldor has a rather unique agreement with the druids of Verduran Forest for the last thousand years. In essence the Empire lets the Druids (and their fey and gnome friends and allies) rule the forest and the druids ensure the Empire has the lumber it needs for its duration (thought maybe not in quanity it wants)

Silver Crusade 3/5

My druid went with Osirion (now Sages) mostly because that's where she's from, and her parents were archeologists. She doesn't like the undead but most of the conflict about them actually arose when she was travelling with a necromancer-flavored character for a while (nothing serious, just some bickering in-character).

If I made more nature-themed characters, I'd probably first think if any of the factions fit their backstory, if not, go with Grand Lodge.

Seems reasonable. Very Lawful Neutral AND nature themed, which is what I am looking for.

Wait, what's this about requiring 4 prestige to have the Green Faith religion?

You can get a +2 bonus to knowledge nature for the 4 points. Otherwise you're a member but get no mechanical benefits

Love the character concept. I have a similar character (Kitsune Wood Oracle - melee type with daisho and the wood-armor revelation looking like samurai armor) and I went with Sovereign Court. That faction is supposed to be "nobles without boarders" and being a chosen defender of the First World meant I was essentially a noble or ambassador. That was my reasoning anyway.

Sovereign court druid/bard ?

Verdant Wheel 4/5

In the age of exploration there were a lot of naturalist guilds, that went all over the world studing new species, catologuing plants, drawing nature. I could see the same with a group of Pathfinders more interested in hunting new monsters, meeting new cultures etc... So most my nature characters are Grand Lodge. But i would rather see a Nature Themed faction too.
