Checking and dotting for future reference.
One elven magus is in the process of being created. Progress can be checked here.

DM Barcas |

Long day. So what's our party so far?
1. Tolomyr - Magus (I play an elven magus in an IRL campaign. Lots of fun since the new revision.)
2. Beckett - Cleric of Something Vague
3. Marius de Black Forge - Sword/Shield Fighter
4. markofbane - Arcane caster
5. randall793 - ???
6. DM Barcas - Barbarian
Alternates
7. Coronanox - Rogue
8. Solaruffikus - Sorcerer
If Mokh'tar gets chosen for the campaign I originally submitted him to (as a level 6 character), I'll likely change to Arcane Archer or Paladin archer. (I may change anyway since we don't have much by way of ranged.) If I did go AA, would you waive the Elf requirement?

Gideon Davenport |

Doctor Gideon Davenport has spent his whole life in various academies and institutions. As the son of famed scholars Gisella and Tarrant Davenport, everyone expected great things out of Gideon. After spending a fortune on tutors, travels, universities, and degrees, Gideon has come to a realization: he is nearly 30 and has never stepped outside the comfort zone of his books and hobbies. He has studied strange creatures and civilizations for his whole life, but has never really experienced them. Taking a sabbatical for "research", he set out to find a place where his studies are not simply an academic pursuit. This quest would lead him to an unusual dungeon, full of promise and danger...
Gideon can search for magical traps starting at level 2, so we have that niche covered.

Here is some background info. I'll add some more camapaign-specific later. The adventure will be set in the City State of the Invincible Overlord, but despite of his name he is more of a nominal ruler in the Fallen Duchy.
Here is Monte's own introduction.
Maybe you first heard the name in a tavern well after closing time, as two old adventurers, well past their prime, spoke of it in hushed tones. Maybe it was from your own mother, who swore she'd send you there when you misbehaved. Perhaps you read the name in an ancient tome of history and lore illuminated by flickering candlelight late at night as the wind howled outside. Wherever you first heard of the place, you have long heard tales of Dragon's Delve.
A vast underground dungeon of labyrinths and catacombs, built perhaps by dwarves or perhaps by wizards--or maybe even dragons--Dragon's Delve is infamous among treasure-hunters and monster-slayers. Filled with deadly danger and ancient treasures, the dungeon offers both risk and reward in equal amounts, each growing more intense the deeper one goes. How much peril is worth risking for how much return? It's all up to those brave enough to try.
The tales of Dragon's Delve teem with contradictions and unbelievable anecdotes of impossible encounters and bizarre monstrosities. And yet, some of it all must be true. Do demonic cultists really use Dragon's Delve as a secret base? Is there truly some kind of ambient magic seeping up through the place? Did wizards of old hoard away powerful artifacts in the dungeon's vaults? Do gateways to remote lands and even other planes of existence really lie somewhere in Dragon's Delve? Does the prince of all dragonkind really hold court in the deepest reaches of the subterranean stronghold? No one knows for certain, but those that could find the answers to even some of these questions, or learn even a few of the dungeon's other secrets, might earn for themselves notoriety and wealth beyond imagining.
If they survive.
Dragon's Delve lies in a remote corner of a long-forsaken wilderness that people once called the Duchy of Chordille. Yet a hundred years ago or so, the folk of the surrounding lands took up arms against Chordille. They razed the keep and slew the duke. It's hard now to find someone who knows the real reason why this happened. A few speak of evil intent on the part of the duke, who had plans for conquest. Others, however, say that the duke's actions were always benevolent, and that the conflict arose from misunderstanding, or perhaps deception on the part of some mysterious third party.
All that is known for certain is that folks call that remote realm the Fallen Duchy. It boasts no ruler and little population. Wilderness reclaimed Chordille, and it is now a land of dangers.
People in Brindenford, a small town just two miles to the north, claim that murderous humanoid creatures prowl those ruins. Goblins? Orcs? Worse? No one seems to know for sure, and eyewitness accounts are few, and always contradictory. They also claim that the place is both haunted and cursed.
So many questions. So many secrets.
If you dare to brave this ancient dungeon, go well equipped. Be ready for anything. Keep your eyes open, and search everywhere. Any passage or door you find could lead to wealth enough for you to retire. Or it could lead to certain doom.
But that's what being an adventurer is all about, right? This isn't an undertaking that you'll finish in one foray or even a dozen. This is the challenge of a lifetime. As someone thrilled at the prospect of exploring the unknown, incredible challenges, and the promise of gold and magic, Dragon's Delve is exactly where you've always wanted to go.

Black Tom,
Magus question for you, the playtest document is missing the class's starting gold, what would you like me to use for starting gold?
In the playtest forums I have seen people use 3d6 x 10 (105 gp avg) and 4d6 x 10 (140 gp avg)
Thanks,
Talomyr

Let's go with 3d6 x 10.

3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5) = 15 x 10 = 150 gp
I'll take of equipment tonight when I get home from work, and after that should be ready to go.

Cleric of something vague, ha ha ha. I am read to go unless you want me to change anything? I am thinking of an Eastern Europian accent for the character, sort of a mix of the Knights of Solomnia, Priest of the Eagle Knights of Andoran, and an Undead fighting Cleric.
Where can we learn a bit about the world?

Black Tom |

Since the characters are coming along nicely I opened the game thread for introductions here.
There remains to mention one important house rule: hero points. I have a different take on them (stolen from I don't remember where), where hero points are a little weaker but also more plentiful than the APG version. You all start with one hero point. You find their uses in my profile, but the most important is that you can spend up to 5 to add +2 (each) on any d20 roll or spend 3 when levelling up to get to roll twice for hp.

Ambitious players could pick up the Player's Guide to the Wilderlands pdf, but I have customized it quite a bit.
There are several kinds of human in the setting. Most relevant are Tharbrian (barbarians), Alryans (slick city-dwellers), Skandik (Vikings) and people of mixed race (who constitute the majority). To the West there is the ancient Viridian empire with its green-skinned denizens. Viridistan and the City state were recently at war, so Viridians are viewed with suspicion.
Politically most of the area is dominated by the so-called Invincible Overlord, a powerful tyrant, but not powerful enough to actually control the entire area that pays him homage (and tribute).
There is also a free city to the north, Warwik, known for its Academy and its knowledge of the magical arts. Warwik or the City state is probably where you might want to buy and sell expensive magic items if you find any.
The setting is rather bleak, points-of-light, standard old-school fantasy. Hopefully you will have enough to deal with in and around Dragon's Delve though.

Just a thought: Since this adventure is very site-based I'm aiming for most of the plot to originate in the dungeon itself, but if you want a personal hook to get your character motivated, let me know.
I hope everyone has their character finalized. You can always get some equipment in Brindenford or ask around for some rumors and information on the dungeon, but I expect you to be ready to go shortly.

Thanks! Kwin doesn't need any more motivation that someone else saying they are going; he just does not want to go alone. Kwin's profile is up to date. He'll need to get some more gold before he gets more equipment. His weapons took up most of his budget.

Gideon Davenport |

Gideon is turning out a little more enthusiastic than I originally planned. He's still the starry-eyed researcher with more curiousity than sense, though. I originally thought he would turn out to be more of someone who hangs around in the back and takes notes.
His accent is a crisp Queen's English, by the way.

Black Tom,
Something you may want to consider doing in the interest moving the game along faster is rolling the initiative for everyone...or at least that's what I do in the game I run (and is done in the majority of the games I am in as well). Just seems to allow for a smoother beginning to combat.

Still here.

Valynie |

So do we wait for BT to recruit some more people or do we continue with only 4 people ?
If I'm not wrong , the group of those staying would consist of Cleric , Rogue , Fighter and Wizard , the perennial group but I must admit a fifth character would be nice
Also just one note, guys. NO NEED to tell Valynie how much hit points you have left . I won't consider it at least until I can do spells like Deathwatch or Status. While I'll take into account how much time you have been hurt and by which weapons , I have no way to know how many hitpoints you exactly have without checking by an heal check

Selina Aldaeth |

Hello all, thank you for the game, hope we have some fun. DM, when you're ready, my character is ready for your perusal and entry into the game.

Selina Aldaeth |

Cool, DM, just waiting for intro. By the way, here is a better visual of what the character looks like, just with an elven curveblade strapped on her back and a holy symbol of Shelyn around her neck: Selina
