Black Talons of Absalom (Inactive)

Game Master Dave Young 992

The Patchwork City is home to many kinds of people, and a source of wealth unseen in much of the world. Some people make it, others take it. The Black Talons are the second kind.

Jared and Quill go to the Ivy District. Jared can't shake the feeling that you're being followed.

Came in from the south?

Nonchalantly, in hushed tones. "Can't shake the feeling we're being shadowed. When we talk, let's face each other... You watch my back, I watch yours."

Yes.

?

Male Half-Orc

Just that positioning ourselves that way might give a +2 perception or something. No one "behind us", as we each can see behind the other. Team building, bonding, reliance on each other... I'm trying.

MAP

Standing in the Flower Street Market, you see a hooded, nondescript person approach you.

He speaks in a hushed tone. Night Ravens, I presume?

Male Half-Orc

If you're wrong it could get a guy upset, if you're right could get you killed. You don't seem to care, I like that. What's up, friend?

Shrugging, Jared smiles and extends an open hand for a hand shake/clasp.

Sense Motive, offer assistance, ambush?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

MAP

He smiles, hands you a folded note, and wanders north.

Male Half-Orc

Please keep a lookout, while I read this. I open the note, careful lest it be some harmful rune. Then read it.

Male Half-Orc

A lil' paranoia never hurt... I'll try not to let it get the best of me.

MAP

Noro: While people can see you dimly lit, you move in such a way as to draw no real attention.

You see the Jewel Trader IV, a rather small, nimble-looking craft being unloaded by hand. You can walk away with that, or roll some more skill checks and get closer.

You're not alone. I've had some horrific runs of 1s.

You're not learning much else. There are humans loading a flat wagon, piloted by a pair of teamsters, using a pair of axebeaks. There may be another one or two more wagons already lined up (you're on the east side and it's being unloaded on the west side) down the dock. That's common with smaller ships. You've been around the docks enough to know.

Sure. Remember, they want this guy more than we do. Plus we got some leverage to sell them if it comes to it...like how to walk into their rival's hideout....the knowledge that it will be heavily reinforced can be had for an additional fee."

Male Half-Orc

That's why you're point on this little soiree... I've got your back. That place is south, right? Oh, and can we try not to kill anyone... I've got enough people lookin' for me.

Female Human Cleric 4/Rogue 1 HP: 29/29 AC: 18/T:12/FF:16 - Percep: + 10 - Saves: F4/R5/W8 - CMB +4 - CMD 15

"Why do people keep asking me that?" and she gives a dry chuckle.

"But yeah...just east of the market. Haven't been there, but seen it on enough maps.

Having both grown up on these streets Sidoze knows they would find something among the various peoples they had grown to know over the years. When some distance away from the inn he breaks away and heads out alone to find his contacts. "Meet me here in an hour Andrezi lets see what we can find." he says before departing.

He was more interested in gathering new information on the princes and how they had taken to being attacked. Other tidbits of infomation on his enemy would be sueful as well.

He was also curious on the Ivy Stalkers. Perhaps this Jo Laret would have an interesting deal if he could find him.

Sorry about the delay. Too much work and too little health recently.

Andrezi nods in acknowledgement of Sidoze's plan and heads off to see what he can find.

Male Half-Orc

The happy couple makes their way to the Champion's Table, taking a look around and entering 5 minutes before the appointed time.

MAP

Andrezi and Sidoze:
You know that Captain Brightwood spends plenty of time on the Lustrous. He knows what's happening on the docks. You also need to see if he'll double the pay for double the Talons.

Jared and Quill:
You enter the restaurant and look around. The cloaked figure you saw sits at a table, with another man who looks like a hotspur/dandy. You make eye contact and know they want you to sit and chat. I'll assume you do.

The dandy speaks. I'm Jo. This is my associate. I see you've met.

He smiles just a bit. The Captain tells me you're quite the crew. This Drunash fellow is power-mad. We have someone on the inside, so we know their designs. I'm afraid poor Brightwood is in dire straits. You do the right thing, you could share in the spoils. The Princes can stay. Their boss has to go.

Noro and Mijndert:
You've managed to stay inconspicuous. The Jewel Trader IV offloads quickly. A team leaves, lit by a permanent torch mounted on the wagon, along with a pair of axebeak riders as escort. It's not heavily loaded. Smallish parcels going to clients, and not a dock officer to be seen. You could try to get closer and see what other wagons are on the west side of the ship.

Make checks or ask questions at your leisure. Love the one you're with.

Sorry all, still recovering from the hurricane. I'll have a meaningful post up in the next 24 hours.

Mijndert seems to be lost in his thoughts. He follows Noro's lead for now.

MAP

No problem. This game is slow, but it hasn't stopped. As long as there are gangsters, there'll be wicked deeds to be done.

Male Half-Orc

The more you share, the better our chances are to achieve what everyone wants. And I don't want your inside person, killed by some "accident". Jared looks to Quill and scans the room a bit.

Female Human Cleric 4/Rogue 1 HP: 29/29 AC: 18/T:12/FF:16 - Percep: + 10 - Saves: F4/R5/W8 - CMB +4 - CMD 15

"I like the word spoils...just the way it rolls off the tongue." Quill says with a smile "But yes, we would be interested in hearing your appraisal of the situation, as we only have it from the Captain. And anything you can tell us about Drunash will only help. She looks about, "Seems a nice place, how's the wine? Nice, I expect."

MAP

Jared and Quill:
Everything here is quite good, if a little pricey. High rent, you know.

Our intel tells us Drunash may get here as early as tonight. He's taking Jewel Trader IV, not the larger ship. You may want to step up your watch at the docks. He could be there now, for all I know.

MAP

Noro:
You see that there are 2 more cargo carts being loaded with small items, and a carriage with 2 mounted escort riders. Someone important must be on that boat.

Female Human Barbarian 4// Init +2/ HP 61 (61) / 69 (69) // AC: 17(15)/T:12(10)/FF:15(12) - Percep: +9// F +8(+10)/R +3/W +3(+5)/CMB +9(+12) (+11(+14) grapple)- CMD 21 (23 grapple)

Noro whispers to Dert pointing to the carriage we may have been mislead this is a different ship than we were told. two escorts two of us think we can take them down quietly?

not sure if dert is available but I do hope so if there ar only 2 escorts I am thinking noro takes one and dert gets the other then we assume the role of escort. possibly putting us right where we need to be.

Noro looks around for other guards that may be watching the carriage.

Come, my love... a stroll by the docks, then? Jared extends a hand to Quill.

Sidoze not having much luck decides to head down to the docks, with luck he could watch the two new recruits work but more so there was some buisness he had to talk with the captain of the Lusterous.

Dert nods and punches his fist into his calm to show he's ready. He then points to her and signals for her to start a three count.

Rolling for perception just to sort out what's going on.

perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

MAP

Andrezi and Sidoze:
You find the Lustrous lightly illuminated. Again, there aren't a lot of people on board. Brightwood seems glad to see you, and wants to know what's new.

Noro and Mjindert:
The escorts are waiting for a carriage (also pulled by axebeaks). Whoever is going to be in it hasn't gotten in yet, apparently.

Jared and Quill:
Knowing that Drunash could be here right now, you can hustle towards either the docks, or the red silk district area where the Princes hang out. Or, something else.

Male Half-Orc

Docks.

MAP

OK, Jared. The two Talons move swiftly and inconspicuously through the darkened streets. It's about 2 miles.

Female Human Barbarian 4// Init +2/ HP 61 (61) / 69 (69) // AC: 17(15)/T:12(10)/FF:15(12) - Percep: +9// F +8(+10)/R +3/W +3(+5)/CMB +9(+12) (+11(+14) grapple)- CMD 21 (23 grapple)

to dert and DM

my plan was to take out the escorts and take their place so when the real target comes into the carriage we can have the jump on him.

so before we move we need a plan

Male Half Elf, Taldan Rogue 1 Sorc 4// Current Hp 28 /28 // AC 16/ Tch 12/ FLF 14

GM:

Perception
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 This was to see if sidoze wouldve spotted any of the other talons since he knew the two new recruits paired together would be at the docks

Sidoze sits into his now regular seat"Well now Captain, figure you would want an update, we tried going into the prince's hide out to try and get your man. Well we ran into some trouble. Lets say an army of trouble. We managed to kill off some of their goons but if we try again we will be put into direct conflict with their forces. This said I have hired some muscle however this will slightly change the terms of our agreement..." Sidoze trails off watching Brightwood to see how well he would take this information.

Diplomacy

MAP

I'll make a map tomorrow, so Noro and 'dert can see what's up on the docks. Sid and Andy are not far away, though Jared an Q are some ways away, still.

Tonight, things are all abuzz with election fever, and the only cure for it is MORE COWBELL!

Quill's good mood fades. She stands up with a hand inside her satchel. With an expression that is all business, [b]"Careful there......lets go. We got our marching orders."[/ooc]

Male Half-Orc

Jared leaves the restaurant with Quill. "If you don't have the real thing, might as well carry one in a satchel. Save it for your Prince... Lover."

Female Human Cleric 4/Rogue 1 HP: 29/29 AC: 18/T:12/FF:16 - Percep: + 10 - Saves: F4/R5/W8 - CMB +4 - CMD 15

Quill pulls her sword out of the satchel and attaches it to her hip. Looking at it, she says, "It's two feet long and yet it's a shortsword. It's always ready when I need it. And it knows how to be quiet, especially when I am using it. Take what you will about what that says about the men I tend to associate with, but I am happy with my choice," as she pats the blade at her hip.

Male Half-Orc

"That they're lacking no matter how... long their swords are? May need to adjust your measure of a man. More on that later, let's focus."

"Holding hands, out? To throw people off, I mean."

Female Human Cleric 4/Rogue 1 HP: 29/29 AC: 18/T:12/FF:16 - Percep: + 10 - Saves: F4/R5/W8 - CMB +4 - CMD 15

"If it is still attached at your wrist?...I'm afraid not. Or any other appendage still attached for that matter." But she does smile, whether from the banter or the thought of severed appendages is unknown.

Male Half-Orc

"I get, now... Quill, like the porcupine. Prickly, but so damned adorable."

Sorry, missed the window for the map, but it will exist shortly.

I'm waiting on the map before giving Mijndert's input on the whole thing. I'm expecting it to be about as insightful as Ray's "Get her!" from Ghostbusters.

MAP

I apologize again. Been a little busy in RL. Map will be up tomorrow.

There are other people around, but these folks are loading the wagons.

The 6 of you are informed that the boat is in the harbor now, and gravitate towards the docks. You see each other, and have a few minutes to plan. Nobody's moving or paying much attention to you.
