You are correct in that regard. It isn't the consequences that determine if you can take 10. It is the immediacy of the danger. That doesn't necessarily mean combat. It mostly has to do with stress and how realistic fine control is at the moment. In this case, the situation is just too precarious to be able to do things normally.

A note on a rule that I sometimes use-

Your "take 10" stealth score is your passive DC to be noticed by something when you don't realize you might be noticed. It's a general measure of how much noise you tend to make when moving around normally and sets the DC for passive Perception checks.

In this case, Ayaal was just quiet and careful enough not to get noticed. That's a really good thing.

The trick is, anything flat will press down on the stone, which is what you don't want.

Back in the room with the dried out bath, there were shelves with some shallow golden bowls with the strange pots. One of them might do the trick.

I was thinking of boards or pieces of bookshelves as things that could be jammed between the mechanism to keep it from resetting.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah that could work. In the previous room the cupboard doors are made of that yellow metal. If you could pry one or two off their hinges, set off the trap again (and not get stuck this time) and then stick the doors under the fangs before they retracted, the fangs would probably get stuck.

Does that sound like what you're going for?

Hasani, your observations and rough calculations tell you that you seem to refill your reservoir of positive energy at a rate of about one channel per ten minutes. Also, everyone in that room gains Fast Heal at a rate of one point per minute. You still aren't sure why.

What's the plan? Keep moving? Stop and play with the toys? Both?

As a note, the hallways are fairly short (about 30 feet), so if you guys wanted to split the party between two rooms to scout one while the scholars poked around in another, I could handle that.

The game has slowed a bit, probably due to my busy weekends lately. What can I do to kick things back up again?

I'd suggest a none trap unavoidable encounter, traps are fine but they alienate a lot of characters who simply don't have much to do against them.

I would not be adverse to that idea. I feel bad for never posting, but Mahsati was not made with brain stuff and investigation in mind, so I've been rather useless.

There have been a few possible encounters so far, but in every case you guys either sneaked past, or didn't trigger the event that would have started a fight.
