Backstory::
Born to the nomadic al-Juhayna tribe that lurks on the fringes of civilization (or according to certain people, beyond the fringes of civilization), Mahsati has always been a bit... unusual. While her older sisters were always fair and delicate flowers, she was hulking, strong, and almost beyond any control. Lacking any proper sons, her father trained Mahsati in the art of combat. What is a tribe without its warriors, after all?
As a nomad, she and her tribe never stood still, and much of her life has been spent crossing the Sea of sand, ever hunting for sustenance. Many times, her tribe has clashed with other bands of nomads; squabbles over resources and complicated and half-remembered duels of honor were as much a part of life as any other.
Had she had her way, Mahsati would still be roaming the sands and dunes with her people. Life was (as she saw it) simple. Content. It was hard work, yes, but nothing in life is easy. Pity that clan laws dictated otherwise. It was the threat of marriage that drove Mahsati away. She was never the smartest of girls, but she knew from her elders' whispered conversations and stars in her direction that her time to settle down was upon her. She would have none of that, but had no way of her own to stand up against clan law.
So she fled.
For days Mahsati traveled, using her limited knowledge of the stars and memories of encounters with brave traders from the so-called City of Towers, Alhazad, who had spoken of such a place. She never fully believed them, but Mahsati was willing to risk the journey for the promise of freedom.
At last, she finally stumbled upon the fringes of the city, and so began her rough adjustment to 'civilized' society...
Mahsati's Crime::
Fighting, plain and simple. Amongst the tribes that Mahsati has known, disputes are quick to turn violent, and little value is placed overall on the life of a man. With this mindset, what should have been a small dispute within the city walls over the payment of fruit escalated quickly and violently when Mahsati began swinging punches. Luckily for the fruit merchant the guards were able to intervene before he was seriously hurt. However, Mahsati's brief rampage smashed enough of the man's stall and placed enough bruises on his face to place her in debt.
Personality::
As a nomad of the desert, Mahsati holds to a code of honor and beliefs that many find almost alien. Fiercely clannish, she is wary of those not of her tribe, and is slow to accept the friendship of strangers. Despite her generally standoffish personality, she seems intensely curious about the unfamiliar trappings of civilization about her. Still, if she is made to work with others, she tends to be surprisingly cooperative. One must work as a unit to survive in the desert, after all, if they hope to survive.
