Welcome to Bing's Bells and Whistles - Open All Night
This is the Discussion thread for our new adventure.
Please use this space to get to know each other, plan activities, discuss problems, announce vacations, and other things. You do not (probably should not) post In Character here as I prefer this to be the place where we simulate our gaming table talk.
The name of this place will be a small, dark tavern on the western edge of the town, actually off the regular map of Torch a little ways, in a small homestead like enclave.
Bing will be an NPC, who dislikes the busy nature of Torch, but doesn't want to be too far away to not take advantage of the business opportunity. He is a charismatic and talkative fellow, who has an eye and ear on everything going on (or so he will claim) we will meet him soon when the game thread is opened.
Kleora |
Hi all! I'm running the character of Kleora, she is a sorceress who focuses on diplomacy and investigation more than combat. I myself am on a lot, I post from my phone sometimes so if a post has a lot of screwy formatting or spelling errors that's why. I try to play as though I don't know more than the player which does mean I might screw us over on occasion when I don't know where someone is because of invisibility and other such things.
Kleora has lived here in torch off and on for four years or so and has a small apartment that she stays in when in town. She has been earning her living as a negotiator for the various merchants in town and abroad when she travels. Kleora is very attractive with a somewhat exotic appearance and as a consequence is known on sight by a fair portion of the town though not by name (3.5/5).
Azariah Seriah |
Hola, this is Jon and my Warpriest Azariah. She's a Transgendered (male to female) follower of the Empyreal Lord Svarozic. She's carrying a Scythe and I'm intending on being fairly front-line, using the Weapon of the Chosen and Vital Strike chains, with a side order of healing when needed.
Given she's a transgender Warpriest she's probably pretty well known, so 4/5 I'd think.
As a player, I'm around most nights. I'm British, but because I work nights I have more in common with West Coast America in terms of sleeping. If there's anything wrong with a post I assure you it's entirely my fault, as I'm on a laptop.
Cerebeth |
Hello everyone! Glad to hear someone has a diplomacy-minded character, as I'm afraid Cerebeth is about as blunt as a crowbar. Cerebeth has been in Torch for the entirety of her existence. I don't know whether her race would be readily apparent or not, but those who've lived here for long would probably have seen her around town with one of the technologists. I'd guess she's not overly well-known, but please, make your own assessments on that. She's not the sort to go out on the town with any regularity! Her sharp tongue and blunt attitude might well be remembered in a few places, however.
I can promise that Cere will flub things somewhat regularly, all the while utterly convinced of the rightness of what she's doing, though I'll hopefully not let her get irksome with it.
Personally, I work entirely too much, but tend to be around on the forums a good bit of the time via the wonders of my iPhone and laptop. I'm on the US East Coast, and tend to be around anytime between 5am and midnight. I've no idea what this "sleep" people speak of might be.
Anyway, I very much look forward to playing with you guys and getting to know your characters better. :)
Terquem |
Great to see everyone here.
I am wrapping up the other two games as fast as I can, and then I will use the game thread to introduce the other existing characters to the setting.
I haven't selected the fourth character yet, still trying to decide.
When we start, I want to be clear that all of you in Torch do not know anything about the rest of the world. In this setting Torch will be on the very western edge of Numeria, and to the west of torch is an inhospitable, impossible to cross bad lands of deep canyons, flash flooding gullies (when late summer rain storms sweep through the country) and hostile tribes of Lizard men and Kobolds). When strangers arrive in Torch, the assumption is always that they have come from the east.
Cerebeth, I am going to review the Android background information for the Iron Gods Adventure Path, and we will talk a little more to make sure we agree on how you fit into the community of torch.
Cerebeth |
The house rule makes sense to me, and I am quite sure Cerebeth knows nothing of the world outside Torch. She's been to a few places where there were technological ruins to study near the town, but that's pretty much it.
Also, I realized now that I forgot to put a number to how well Cere would likely be known around town. I'd put it at a 2 to 2.5 probably. I doubt that many people would know her by name; it's more likely that she's just known to have associated with one of the technology-focused scientists around town.
Kleora |
Yep, choose one of the two to roll first, whichever is rolled first can affect what you get on the second one.
Also, would you mind too much opening the game play thread so we can all dot it and more easily keep track of new posts please?
*Bats her eyelashes at the gm*
Kleora |
Yeah, that's fine. I have the page bookmarked so it's not that big of a deal. If you want to wait until you're ready to actually start that's fine too. Just figured I'd ask.
Cerebeth |
Yep, I've bookmarked this as well. Looking forward to starting when everything's ready. Something special is almost always worth waiting for.
. . .
Mind you, I'm currently waiting like the proverbial five-year-old. "Are we there yet?"
In all seriousness though, as far as I'm concerned, take whatever time you need!

The Game thread is now open. This beginning may be a bit wacky, as I bring other players into this game from other games that are closing. For now, those players who are citizens of Torch, you can be in Bing’s Bells and Whistles, and you are about to notice a stranger is here, or you can be somewhere in Torch itself. When you post, the first time in the game thread, please place a Spoiler at the top of your post, with a Location of where your character currently is. I will refer to this spoiler when addressing your character either as the DM or as an NPC. If you move from one significant location to another, please indicate this by placing another spoiler at the end of your post something like this
Bing realizes he is out of butter, and needs to go into town to buy some supplies
[spoiler=Where is Bing Going?]Bing is going toward Torch on the regular trail
I am trying something new with this game. There will be members of these boards who will be taking on the roles of some of the NPCs in Torch, this will create some new things for the players to have to deal with. I will try to be in touch with these Player controlled NPCs to make sure they do not upset the flow of the campaign (too much anyway) but I will also be giving them some leeway in what they do when they interact with the Player Characters.
I am reading the Adventure Path again today, cover to cover, and also trying to wrap up lose ends in the other two games. I will try to post to this game thread if I see important questions are asked, otherwise, you might not hear from me again until the weekend.
A note about my Posts:
I will try to make sure that on any page (50 post count) I will post at least once with the header describing where Player Characters are, and what time of day/season it is, plus any relevant information about the current situation, such as a battle taking place in this format
Who you are and where you are
When it is (turn counter, where a Turn is a Ten minute period of time and there are 144 turns in a day)
situation, if required
Cheers, and Good luck to everyone. I hope I can provide a game worth your time.
Ritmush Noscale |
GAH! so many fancy people in this thread with their fancy armor and fancy hats. -looks at fox ear hat-
Hrmmm... need to get Ritmush a fancy hat before he leaves town.
For those players who have not already lurked in our threads to get a feel for the rest of the players set to join this game I am one of the folks coming from Beyond Fort Horizon.
Ritmush is a kobold raised human. Yes. Not really sure why, the kobold king at the time was a bit daft, thinking a fleshy shooting fire out of their aft half was some sort of sign.
Eventually the old king died and his son (who had been repeatedly embarrassed by Ritmush) took control. So Ritmush got the boot when he in his girth-y large-ness crushed the chiefs chair.
He has a habit of lying to everyone he meets and is currently in possession of a set of goggles that would likely concern several of you due to all of you definitely having nothing to do with the Sky Wizards in our setting.
For now Ritmush will just sit here and eat imaginary popcorn, waiting expectantly for you all to provide some manner of entertainment.
Terquem |
Bing is currently at Bing’s Bells and Whistles
Bing realizes he is out of butter, and needs to go into town to buy some supplies
Well the whole Where is Bing thing above was completely messed up by bad tagging, so hopefully this example is better.
Thanks for dropping By Ritmush
Felicia LaFou |
Hello all! I am Felicia. I will soon be stumbling out of the ship, having been woken by the commotion. I'm going to hold back and look for a spot to be fashionably late for a moment, but I'm on the way in to town. :D
can't wait to play this out with you guys!
Stella Lucem Caelum |
Greetings everyone. I am Stella Lucem Caelum and I was a wizards apprentice. Mind you I never learned 1st level spells but I know a couple of cantrips. Because of the restriction of the campaign I took a level in bard.
I was the pretty social diplomat of our group. It was a running thing that my twin, a tiefling was the exact opposite. Though, I know her as the beautiful person she really is. So Kleora we will have a lot of overlap in that respects.
Knowledge was to be my secondary as I took levels in Oracle of Lore. Which right now is still the plan. I am very protective of my friends and am not against showing my rough side to do so. Otherwise, I am a prim and proper lady with a flair for fashion. I would indeed love to make Ritmush a fancy hat all his own.
Felicia, I would wait to long. Fashionably late, can sometimes be to late ^.^ I will be joining you guys soon also. Hopefully not to late.
Felicia LaFou |
'sokay mate, Heal up and we'll be her when youre ready!
Stella Lucem Caelum |
Agreed. Get well. You will be in our thoughts.
So, We have two Sorcerers, a rogue, a War Priest, and a swashbuckler, And a bard dip before heading to oracle of lore.
I take it I will be primary healer if its needed.
Ritmush Noscale |
There is also Unbolath, a wizard gish' type who splits lizardfolk like logs.
Then we have Portia, ranger and owner of the delicio- err... ah I mean deceptively useful bird companion Issabelle. Yep puttin' away the mustard now.
Azariah Seriah |
Mmmm, familiar and mustard you say..?
Anyway, yeah, if you start bleeding on sitting up I think we can all cope with waiting. Stoop oozing before we begin playing, please.
Terquem |
Better, but, well, nevr mind. I have a follow up appointment at 10 this morning and when that is over, I hope to spend the rest of the day reviewing and getting The beyond Fort Horizon game wrapped up, so those players can be on their way to Torch.
I'll be reviewing all my games and mking sure everyone ones what my schedule will be. Some oldetr ames will get updated before newer ones.
Ritmush Noscale |
Good to have you back Terquem, well not back. You were present after all you just had to be a good adult and not do things that would make you bleed out the orifices again. I should be active for most of today so for my part at least I can give you some responses.
As for this group I'll be excited to extend ritmush's particular brand of nonsense to others.
Felicia LaFou |
omg ritmush I can't wait until we interact I feel like our nonsense will be ridiculous together. Felicia will probably LOVE you.
Terquem |
I am feeling well enough to start getting back to updating games. It will be slow at first, maybe two or three games today, and then the rest will follow through the weekend.
I appreciate everyone’s patience.
I’ll start each game post with a review, to try and bring everyone back to where we were when we left off, and a prompt to getting us moving again.
I imagine it will take some time for everyone to realize the games are going to get moving again.
Again, thank you.
For this game - what you have all done so far is really great, thank you. I hope to get Stella moving into torch right away, like this weekend, but the others might take longer and I think it would not be fair to them to move too far along with this game without including them, so please a little more patient with me.
Kleora |
Glad to hear your doing well enough to get things wrapped up on the other threads Terquem. I understand not moving us too far along and appreciate the reasoning, I look forward to when we're ready for this to begin.
Ritmush Noscale |
It'll be good to meet you all when I get
Nothin' preventin' ya from talking to each other if you would like something to pass the time.
@Felicia: I suspect we will either have that uncanny valley of 'too many similarities' weighing friendship down or we shall become best friends when Ritmush realizes you have little to no understanding of this planets laws (just like him*)
*He has in fact been living under a rock for most of his life and in a forest for the rest of it.
Terquem |
We should be moving forward now, sort of semi regularly, I think
I will try to post every day, at least, and will respond to questions as quickly as I can
I have sent a PM to Cerebeth (and hope he responds soon)
Kleora and Azariah can expand on what the7y are doing in the tavern, if they would like to do so.
There are three groups at this time
Stella and Oscar(NPC)They know nothing about Torch or its people, they speak a version of common, which is difficult to understand due to their accents - Stella does not have to type her dialog in any special way, it will just be assumed that she is understood, and people of torch will look at her as if they know she is not "from around these parts"
Ritmush, Unbolath, Portia, and Calliope(NPC)They are also strangers to Torch, and they speak a version of common that is understood by the locals of Torch as well, but their accents are not as thick as Stella's
Azariah, Cerebeth, Kleora and Felicia These are locals of the town of Torch
Terquem |
Stella has stopped to talk to Cerebeth, a prospector, and Felicia
So, there are a lot of Player Characters, and a potential for many posts to suddenly pop up as one or more characters engage other characters with questions or conversations, so, please, take a moment to build your post a bit carefully so everyone knows who you are talking to. And please don't get discouraged if you find yourself behind by a few posts.
Terquem |
Happy to see Kleora and Azariah getting to know each other.
Sorry Stella, that Felicia and Cerebeth have not responded - I sent a third PM to Cerebeth, but I'm starting to think we may have lost him. Felicia is around, so we';; give him a bit more time to respond.
meanwhile I'll move Unbolath and Ritmush into the town
To be clear, are Ritmush, Unbolath and Portia headed toward the small tavern (Bells and Whistles) or do they intend to bypass it?
I've also sent a PM to Portia, who has not responded.
