Scorpelio |
"I can attempt to disable the lift and we can then use the Magnetic Soles of our boots to scale the walls of the elevator shaft though there is a risk associated in that they could regain control of the lifts and use them to impede us."
"Alternatively, there are the ladders though I am unsure if they would support all our weight at the same time."
Looking a bit further into the gloom of the shaft.
"There is also what appears to be a maintenance shaft there, though from where we are, I am unable to determine what is inside it."
Scorpelio quickly scans the inside of the elevator shaft with his Auspex.
"I say we just go with the shortest route and scale the walls. While we will be slightly exposed within the shaft, we wont be locked into as much of a confined space as being in the actual Elevator."
Brother Averruncus, Librarian |
Averruncus leads the way into the maintenance shaft, careful to any hint of threat, and search for a ladder or something allowing to go up.
"Close the maintenance shaft hatch behind us, brother. We cannot afford to be localised before we effectively retrieve the tech "
Browman |
The maintenance shaft is narrow so you are forced to use the ladder, which groans with the weight of 4 astartes. The rungs are an awkward distance apart, one of them is a very short step, two is slightly uncomfortably long. The climb takes longer than you anticipate, costing you about 5 minutes to climb the 3 stories.
The librarian is now at the hatch to the command deck. What do you do?
Scorpelio |
"I should be close enough, the walls should not be thick enough to block the signal."
Scorpelio maglocks his boots to the wall behind the ladder to reduce strain on the ladder and, with one arm, takes out his Auxpex pointing it in the direction of the Command Deck's Hatch using his servo arm to help. ie: use the Servo arm to clamp onto a crossbeam or something similar to hold himself in place to further reduce strain on the ladder.
If the Signal is blocked or I'm not in a proper position to get an accurate reading, I'd pass the Auspex up to Brother Averruncus so that he can attempt to get a clear reading.
unless we're not on the ladder anymore!
Brother Averruncus, Librarian |
The archivist hesitantly point the auspex toward the hatch.
Averruncus is not trained in tech-use. The test is therefore intelligence/2=20
1d100 ⇒ 75 failure
"I don't get any life signal behind this door. But I have to point out that i'm not familiar with this sort of device."
Browman |
The Librarian leads the kill team out of the maintenance hatch and immediately comes under fire from a pair of xenos in some kind of light power armour firing from behind a large portable shield.
They are firing some kind of semi-automatic Ion weapons. and are about 50 meters down the passageway.
1d100 ⇒ 50
1d100 ⇒ 69
Brother Averrnuncus is hit by one round from the hail of xenos fire. That deals 19 damage with 4 pen. As the impact is also concussive, you need to make a toughness test or be stunned for 1 round
3d10 ⇒ (6, 5, 8) = 19
Averrnucus 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Tarkus 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Rollo 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Scorpelio 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Bad 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
All of you can act before the xenos act again.
Time remaining on mission 1 hour 48 minutes
Scorpelio |
"Breach and Clear it is then, Brothers."
"Target Priority will be the possible AI Construct followed by any armed Xenos. The unarmed ones we can put down later."
"Though any potential scuttling of the Bridge Cogitators should be stopped or avoided as an utmost priority."
Scorpelio braces himself as much as he can for the coming assault from his near-horizontal positioning.
Brother Averruncus, Librarian |
Brother Averruncus, despite his unconvenient positionning, try to dodge the incoming fire.
Dodge test: 1d100 ⇒ 95 failure do dodge the shot
With a roll of 50 to hit, I assume Averruncus is hit in the head. He has armor 8 on this localisation. The armor rating is reduced to 4 by the Pen 4. With 12 as a Stamina Bonus, he takes 19-12-(8-4)= 3 wounds
Toughness test: 1d100 ⇒ 62 he barely succeed in resisting the Stunning effect
Brother Averruncus grunts as he is hit by the ionic ray right in his face. Yet, where a normal man would have had his head vaporized, he throws himself in the passageway, perform a forward roll and redresses himself, with one knee on the floor, to offer a more diminutive target for the next shoots as well as free the hatch for his brothers to retaliate. (This is a 5 (Agility bonus +1 for being an Astartes) meters move as a half action)
He then targets and shoots a bolt at the xenos who hit him (half action)
My bonus: +10 for short range, -10 for target size modifier (do you confirm?); total adjustment: +0; Adjusted BS: 46)
BS test: 1d100 ⇒ 31 That's possibly a hit in Right Arm
I throw dice twice because the bolter is Tearing
Damages: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Damages: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
That's 14 damage, Pen 4.
I used a total of 4 bolts so far. 24 left in my clip
Brother Tarkus, remember that the short range for your Heavy Bolter his half the normal range, that is 75m. Shooting at short range, you get a +10 Bonus. Now, our targets are probably of small size and we have a -10 penalty to hit them, so it doesn't change anything, but just don't forget your short range bonus ;)
Browman |
Also remember that you are all in a maintenance shaft with only one exit out of it. Shooting isn't possible for those of you in the shaft unless you move to the entrance an block it while shooting. And yes they are a -10 size modifier.
dodge: 1d100 ⇒ 24
The librarian's round slams into the right arm of the xenos, it is still alive but badly injured.
Browman |
So am did I do something wrong?
think of it like this if you are looking at the fight from the side
_________X_n_______________A__
| --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- |K|
| --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- |i|
| --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- |l|
| --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- |l|
| --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- |T|
| --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- |e|
| --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- |a|
| --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- |m|
The X is the xenos
the n is shield they are behind
The A is Averrucus after moving
The kill team is in a maintenance shaft below the level the xenos and Averrucus are on. You don't have line of sight on the xenos.
Scorpelio |
I'm last in the formation taking up the rear so until Tarkus and Rollo get up and over:
Scorpelio turns around facing downwards using his Servo-Arm and Maglocked boots to keep him in place as he brings his Plasma gun to a ready position and backs up towards the Shaft exit at the top.
Scorpelio |
Being the furthest back, the following assumes that I can move up to the egress and take shots off. Otherwise, Imma just continue waiting my turn.
As soon as both Rollo and Tarkus cross the threshold and take their shorts, Scorpelio brings up the rear firing a single shot at the entrenched Xenos.
BS of 43 +10 BS for Semi-Auto -10 for Size.
Semi-Auto Burst: 1d100 ⇒ 57
And a Miss, again. Clip of 40 is down 4 shots so 36 before Reload.
Otherwise:
Brother Scorpelio continues backing up towards his brothers who are firing upon the entrenched Xenos eagerly awaiting his turn to fire upon them.
Brother Averruncus, Librarian |
Just after the xenos' burst, the Librarian stands up from his crouching position and sprint toward him, running along the wall.
I use the Run full action. My running speed is 30m per round. I purposely run only 27m. That should bring me 8m from him. Because of the Run action, the xenos will have a -20 penalty to shoot at me (but a +20 bonus if he engages me in melee). I make sure to sprint along the wall as much as possible, so as to let some space for my brothers to return fire.
Scorpelio |
Scorpelio takes the opportunity and line of fire opened up by Averruncus to fire a 2 Shot Semi-Auto Burst at the remaining Xenos.
since we're not in Squad Mode, I'll use the Siege Master Solo Ability to reduce any armor he would gain from his Cover by Half if any. If possible.
this will be at +10 for Short Range, +10 for Burst and -10 for Size for a total of +10
Semi-Auto Burst: 1d100 ⇒ 23
Thats a hit with 2 Degrees of Success? (Bs 43).
Damage for first shot: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21 per the errata for a Ragefire Plasma Gun; additionally, my clip size would be amended from 40 to 24 -2 for the first burst in the game, -1 for my most recent shot and -2 for this burst leaving me with 19 shots in my clip before reloading.
Damage for second shot: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Total of 38 Damage with Pen 10. Dont think I got righteous fury due to only rolling a 9 and 5 for damage.
Scorpelio |
With the corridor seemingly clear, Scorpelio follows his brothers up to the door and datapad-like device and attempt to open the Blast Door.
He first tries to scan the environs with his Auspex for any indication as to what might be behind the closed door.
tech-use Auspex: 1d100 ⇒ 32 which is a success.
tech-use Datapad-thing: 1d100 ⇒ 83 which is a failure.
"A moment, Brothers, I seem to be having issues getting through to the cogitators machine spirit..."
Brother Averruncus, Librarian |
As the second of the xenos fall under Brother Scorpelio fire, Averruncus reachs the 2 demiurgs and uses his Force Sword to give them Coup de Grace if necessary. "You shall not suffer the xenos to live".
He then secures the position during the time his brothers come to join him.
As Scorpelio is attempting to open the door, the Son of Antaeus checks the integrity of his armor after the ion shot he sustained (I assume there are alert runes in his helm, that warn the marine about any breach in his armor or the integrity of the void-seal?)
If necessary, he uses repair cement to fill the breach.
"Brothers, they know we're here. We can expect the bridge to be heavily defended. Brother Scorpelio, I suggest we progress making the best use of any cover we might find on the bridge" (that is, I suggest we use the 'Dig In' Squad Mod
By the way, I don't benefit from it because I selected the oath's archivist dedicated bonus at the beginning of the mission, but I remind you that our Oath gives all of you a +10 bonus to shoot and melee against Demiurgs.
