Scorpelio |
"Aye Brother Librarian. I will note, however, that aside from the environmental conditions of the room beyond both blast doors leading to the bridge, I'm picking up no signs of life."
"This might be due to interference or something...else."
His scowl hidden by his helmet.
"I have a sinking feeling as to what we might find once I open the doors so be ready for anything Brothers."
So yeah, I'm all in favor for using Dig In.
...I need to stop forgetting the bonuses we get...
Brother Averruncus, Librarian |
As brother Scorpelio tries to unlock the doors, Averruncus positions himself to cover the hatch by which the kill team arrived and is careful of any hint of incoming threat. If the xenos try to circle us, he'll welcome them with bolts.
He uses the "Overwatch" combat action: killzone: the hatch; Action: semi-auto burst with my bolter; condition: xenos enter my line of sight
Browman |
You feel a rush of air as your armour sensors pick up a slight drop in pressure as the air flows into the room between the blast doors.
The room looks basically empty, there is a second console beside the other blast doors and you hear the sound of motors firing up, but can't see anything operated by such motors. Your sensors still indicate that the room has no gravity and the floor appears to be so kind of ceramic composite.
Scorpelio |
"Hmm...Brothers, it looks like the maglocks in our boots will find little-to-no purchase on the flooring ahead: Ceramic Composite."
"We might therefore be free-floating in the section ahead. Be wary brothers. My sensors are also unable to indicate the location or source of the machinery that is activating."
"Heading to the second console to open the second door now."
Tech-Use 2nd Door Console: 1d100 ⇒ 49 Fail, unless I somehow have a bonus I'm missing.
Browman |
As he pushes into the room, Scorpelio quickly discovers what the motors were powering as automated weapons in the two upper corners behind him quickly track his movement and spit out a hail of Ion fire.
1d100 ⇒ 35
3d10 ⇒ (10, 4, 9) = 23
Fortunately marines move faster than the automated defenses expect and only one round hits Scorpelio. But that round hits with great force finding a weak point in his armour.
Scorpelio you take 23 damage with 4 pen and need to make a toughness test at +10 or be stunned for one round.
Scorpelio |
Toughness Test: 1d100 ⇒ 37 +10 = 47 Total which means I am stunned. Unless I'm having a major Brainfart. I am regretting that 33 Toughness now :x
Thankfully the shot hits my body (53 on the chart) which has 11 armor.
So: 23 Damage - 7 (11 chest - 4 pen) - 6 (Toughness Bonus of 3x2) = 10 Damage Taken; don't think I'm forgetting anything.
Ouchies!
Since Scorpelio is now stunned, he can only gasp for breath from the solid hit to his torso from the impact of the weapon that struck him.
Browman |

+ and - affects your toughness not the roll. So you aren't stunned.
Scorpelio |
Aha! I did have a Brain Fart! I knew something was off with that business haha!
In that case...
Scorpelio, reeling from the solid hit, turns to the automated weaponry that opened fire on him and returns fire with his plasma gun.
+10 for Semi-Auto Burts, +10 for Short Range
Plasma Gun Shots: 1d100 ⇒ 52 Hits with BS 48 (I was forgetting the +5 from my Armors History /facepalm).
Modified BS is 68 vs 52 which is only a single degree of success and thus only hits once since Burst Requires 2 Degrees for additional hits.
Plasma Gun Damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17 with Pen 10. Down to 17 for the clip.
Scorpelio |
Scorpelio, once again, tries to open the door by using the, what he assumes is, the access panel.
Tech-Use on Panel: 1d100 ⇒ 19 Super Success!
"Hmmm." Scorpelio grunts as he works on the next terminal "None of my sensory equipment picked up those Automated Defenses Brothers. Be wary and on the look out for them. We cannot afford to get caught off guard again."
However, before opening the Second Blast Door, Scorpelio looks over his own suit of Power Armor especially in the region where he was recently hit for any signs of its integrity being breached and applies Repair Cement where appropriate to ensure that the environmental seal is maintained.
Brother Averruncus, Librarian |
1d10 ⇒ 3
1d10 ⇒ 8 +5 = 13 pen 10
Rollo, we use weapons statistics as per the errata. So, a bolter is 1d10+9 Tearing, not 1d10+5 Tearing. Also, afaik, kraken rounds are Pen 8, not Pen 10 :)
Scorpelio, you should have tried to dodge the shot ;)
what did I miss??
If Browman was nitpicking, you were still in the corridor, so you couldn't aim at the turrets who were just above the door, in the back of Scorpelio. You should have move inside the room in order to fire. But your weapon is Full-auto shoot only (which is a full turn action), so you couldn't have fire in the same round. :)
Please, take easy all my remarks, but from my understanding, 2 players here are new to roleplaying game and/or this game system. I just try to make things clear for everyone to have the best possible experience.
The massive librarian approach Scorpelio. "Do you need healing, Brother?"
All the following assume Scorpelio's answer is "yes". Averruncus uses his Warp Cauterize psychic power.
He casts on Unfettered level. Target level: 50 (Willpower) + 15 (Psy level) + 10 (Psy-focus) = 75
Focus Power test: 1d100 ⇒ 13 Success!
Removed damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
A sinister reddish glow surrounds the librarian's hand as he touches the wounds. The glow propagates to the wound, who heals itself, with a peculiar ticklish sensation for Scorpelio :D.
"Beware, Brother. This sort of healing has its limits. Your body might be unable to receive such more healing before a few days."
Scorpelio |
"My Thanks, Brother Librarian, I will be more wary of cowardly traps such as these in the future. The Apothecarion back at the watch station should be able to bring me back into full fighting form upon our return, fret not."
Yeah, Could've dodged but didnt think about it at the time :P
"That might be the case, Brother Tarkus, if we find ourselves unable to recover the Object as per our mission parameters."
Brother Averruncus, Librarian |
So how do I move into a room if that is a full action....I have to move or shoot?..
Basically, with your Heavy Bolter, yes, you have to move OR shoot. BUT remember that you also have a Bolt Pistol. And that switching between weapon during your turn is a free action (because we all have the Talent "Quick Draw"). So, what you can do is:
turn 1: switch to bolt pistol, move and shoot (single shot)turn 2: switch back to heavy bolter, and shoot full auto
As Scorpelio works on the access panel, Averruncus switches the zone he covers to be the door in front of the kill-team
He uses the "Overwatch" combat action: killzone: the door (and the area behind); Action: semi-auto burst with my bolter; condition: xenos enter my line of sight
Browman |

Didn't you already open the second door in this post.
Browman |
The blast door to the bridge opens, and you see the cramped space that is the bridge of this vessel. At full capacity it would have 6 crew here. All sitting at small consoles overseen by the ship's captain in a slightly raised position. A holoscreen dominates the forward view and each of the seats are designed to hold the occupant in place even in 0 gravity. Currently there are only 3 crew in the bridge, the poor xenos that happen to have this watch.
Brother Averruncus, Librarian |
Merciless, the Son of Antaeus opens fire right away (from his overwatch action)
My bonus: +10 for Semi-auto fire; +10 for short range, -20 for Overwatch, -10 for target size modifier; total adjustment: -10; Adjusted BS: 36)
BS test: 1d100 ⇒ 68 That's a miss :(
That's a total of 7 bolts used from his clip
As he is firing his bolter like it is the most casual thing to do in the world, Averruncus says on the kill-team radio frequency: "Maybe we should capture one of those filthy xenos, as you suggested, Brother"
Scorpelio |
If there is one that looks to be in charge, I'll point him out as being the one to capture. The rest? Bullet Catchers.
Over the vox network, Scorpelio states
"Keep one alive for interrogation. The rest are of no use to us."
And subsequently opens fire on one of them with his plasma gun.
Bonuses would be: +10BS from Oath (Right?), +10 for Semi-Auto Burst, +10 for Short distance, -10 for size for a total of +20
2-shot Plasma Gun: 1d100 ⇒ 42 Which is a hit with 2 Degrees of success due to BS 48 (43 base + 5 from Armors History).
1st shot damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20 at Pen 10
2nd shot damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18 at Pen 10
Total of 38 damage.
Clip down to 15.
Scorpelio |
dont think so.
Unless Brother Rollo needs aid restraining the sole Demiurg Survivor, Scorpelio will just hand him the Restraints he brought.
Scorpelio will also take a detailed pict recording of the Bridge (which he's had on from the start of the mission!) and head towards the command throne or nearest equivalent and attempt to access it with a Tech-Use roll.
Tech-Use: 1d100 ⇒ 78 Fail :(
"Hmm, as was expected, the encryption on the bridge systems is much more powerful..."
"Brother Tarkus, take my Auspex and survey the area as I work on cracking through these security protocols."
"Brother Averruncus, I leave the interrogation of the Xenos to you and Rollo. He lives only as long as he is useful to us."
Scorpelio will show Tarkus how to use the Auspex to avoid any...problems :p
this whole scenario is assuming that the Demiurg doesnt do something else like not get dogpiled and restrained by Rollo.
Brother Averruncus, Librarian |
The Librarian menacingly turns his opticals toward the surviving Demiurg. He covers the distance that separate them in a few steps and grab the xenos by his neck before to lift him and ruthlessly slam him against a wall, where he maintains him.
In low gothic:
"What is your name and grade? Answer or we will slaughter all your brethren aboard this ship"
Averruncus is merely testing if the xenos can understand human language or not.
In the process, the Son of Antaeus also tears apart all the devices, equipment and gears the xenos might have on his person, to prevent him to communicate with his fellow people.
Scorpelio |
Scorpelio is going to try and be a Pro Hacker and crack that encryption yo!
Not even glancing back seeing as the other members of his kill team had everything under control, Scorpelio once again tries to break through their security protocols.
tech-use: 1d100 ⇒ 9 Super-duper successerino!
Browman |
The xenos stares blankly at the Librarian.
The tezm leader accesses the xenos system, but without speaking the language has difficulty navigating the system. After a few minutes he manages to track down a schematic that indicates that you need to travel most of the way to the back of the ship and 5 levels down.
Brother Tarkus picks up movement at the extreme edge of the auspex range, a pair of moving metallic signatures heading your way.
at basically the same moment you receive a transmission from the warship that brought you into the system.
"Astartes kill team, be advised that Xenos warship acceleration projections have been revised, Unless you want to fight your way of that pile of scrap your timeline has been reduced by 1 hour."
Time on mission clock 48 minutes.
Scorpelio |
"I have the location Brothers. Be done with our captive, we've no time to tarry!"
can I eat one of the Demiurg to temporarily learn their language?
If so actions will be to eat a hunk of demiurg flesh and if I can still use my previous tech-use rolls access to their systems, give us all high-level security clearance and change any automated Friend Or Foe automated targeting systems to recognize us as friendlies instead of the Demiurg? If not, the following Tech-Use roll will be for just that purpose.
Tech-use: 1d100 ⇒ 43 So borderline success at 44 int. Any negative modifiers turn this into a fail.
"I will attempt to buy us as much time as possible or give us hightened security clearance levels and whatever else I can manage."
"Alert me if those mechanical signatures draw too close. As much as I like a good fight, we dont have the time to waste on hindrances to our primary mission objectives."

It wouldn't be amazing understanding, but enough to get by. Unfortunately barely succeeding is not enough to reprogram security clearances. But you did discover that there is a loading bay and mag cart about 50 meters from the tech you need to acquire.
Scorpelio |
I assumed as much ^_^
"Gah! This Xenos technology confounds me to no end. Had I the time, I would have been able to get something more substantial done but we don't. I did discover that there is transportation equipment not 50 meters away from the Target that should help us get it to our Exfiltration zone."
Brother Averruncus, Librarian |
"Team leader, shouldn't we bring this xenos with us for further investigation and interrogation in watch fortress?"
Assuming a positive answer, Averruncus will tightly put the palm of his gauntlet on the mouth and nose of the xenos and press until the xenos faint from lack of oxygen, before releasing pressure. This should normally not kill the demiurg. He will then transport him like a bag. If the xenos got contusions or a few broken bones in the process, the Son of Antaeus cannot care less...
Eventually, the xenos will be used as meat shield or hostage during our retreat.
In case of a negative answer, Averruncus will simply pummel the head of the xenos until it becomes marmalade (simply breaking his neck might prove insufficient in regard of their heretic technology).
Once this is done, the massive librarian checks his bolter and get ready.
"Ready to go, team leader. What path should we follow?"
Scorpelio |
"If you think he'll be of value, I leave it to your discretion. However, if he so much as slows you down, he is not mission critical."
I gave one of you Restraints so you could technically hog-tie him and, if the restraints are magnetic in any way, maglock him to you.
"Lets move out marines."
I assume we're going to try getting to our target destination by going back down through the maintenance shaft if possible. Otherwise, its through the main Bridge doors.
Scorpelio |
Does one passage look more expedient than the other?
"Brothers, as much as I relish a good fight, common sense would dictate that we use the most expedient method available to us to complete our mission. If so, that might force us to take the side passage ahead instead of meeting the enemy head on."
"Were our situation less time sensitive, I would not have hesitated in prolonging our stay here to test our selves and prove our superiority to these base Xenos by systematically bringing ruin down upon them."
"That said, our Duty is to retrieve the device for the Watch Commander. And thus my source of internal conflict. As such, I leave the choice to you Brothers."
I'm all for taking the side passage and dodging the mobs to speed us up. But, I also want to go Murderhobo on them.

The main passage is more direct.
