In re Clinton, he purchased the weapons before the laws were passed ... lol.

Marcus wouldn't enter Canada because Canada has their own laws and regulations, Marcus accepts that, but Canada does not believe in his ideals. This is a Go Bag and Skills Test for him and Canada isn't a realistic test since Canada will not have those laws like the rest of the world in a TEOTWAWKI event. Since you were in the German Army, what would you do if your raft had sunk with you and your gear? Besides, you know most military or similar gear floats because of what you have in your backpack (water resistance which Marcus has), your clothing traps air, the mesh vest (because it is not fully meshed) will catch some air too. And if the GM doesn't want any of us to have our gear, he can do that no matter what we do. And frankly if that happens, my character is ready for that too but I will admit, I will be irritated at first. If he wanted us to have no gear, he should have just said forget wealth and choosing equipment. As for canoeing accidents, they happen but less than how many vehicular accidents there are and people continue to drive. No one is going to act like an idiot to flip the canoe because their gear will be in there too and some people are just not ready to live without an extra pair of skivvies or socks like Marcus is ... ;-)

Actually with the Clinton Adminestration comming all assault weapons and similiar will be forbidden ;-)

And Marcus. If the guided trip goes through Canada... well then you have to leave it in your car. I mean it´s your car.
How will you keep it safe... if you canoe collapses?

In this game world there was no second President Clinton. In fact Trump served two terms. His policy of zero regulation of business lead to an economical surge in GDP but the wealth funneled up to the top and stayed there as it does often in trickle down economics. However he was able to convince enough people to vote for a 2nd term. He had slashed away at entitlements as he claimed and several people support him simply because of that. But after 8 years of Trump a Colorado Senator Crisanta Duran was elected President in 2024 election. The people were seeing results of massive pollution allowed under the Trump administration and Duran ran on a Pro-Environment platform. The US finally had its first female president and she started cracking down on pollution right away and once again started the regulating businesses waste management programs. The entitlements that existed have not been reinstated and Duran was facing a tough battle to get anything through a Republican controlled Senate.

I really just have to do gear, now Being a Canadian this may seem odd but do I need to buy a gun? I can see the benefits but really if you are just going on a camping trip do you bring your loaded rifle and all your ammo with you?

LOL ... we have had Solanum, and Captain Trips ... now we have Strumps! ... :-)

Yes if it is a realistic Go Bag and Skills Test. The reason why he brings the rifle is because that weight will be there when The Smelly Stuff Hits the FAN. Also, he brought the rifle because if the SHTF, he will have all his gear. There are plenty of survivalist who do this very thing. Marcus can place the rifle in his pack and you would never know unless you catch a glimpse of it or knew what a Tactical Backpack looked like. But since it is a full auto, he had to tell the Ranger Guide by law and respect, and this is when you saw it. Most survivalist have semi-auto weapons and can legally have them in their packs without telling anyone because they are not restricted because it would very difficult to quick draw a rifle fast enough. Now if you go to Alaska, just about everyone has a firearm because Polar Bears, Grizzly Bears, and them ugly oversized deer can be very dangerous and being armed has saved many Alaskans. However by law, you are supposed to tell an Alaskan State Trooper you are armed just like you are supposed to tell them when you are carrying concealed (CCW) in states that permit it for both your safety, the safety of the officer, and personally, out of respect. I have seen officers turn their temperament around when a CCW owner told them they carrying concealed and here is my CCW license. Part of the reason is you can not have a felony to be a CCW holder.

As they say for the Go Bag/Skills Test, the more you sweat in peace time, the less you bleed in war.

Ok I will have to think a bit differently about my Guy I do have a rough idea.

Raltus a gun isn't a requirement. If your character doesn't feel like a guy who should have one then don't take one. There are definte pros to be a melee expert or even a wrestler type trained in hand to hand and Grappling or Escape Artist. All depends on what you want to play.

I really HOPE that not everyone goes the route that Anderlorn is going with Marcus. It was my original intent that players would not be as ready for this as Marcus will be. However I think having one "Survivalist Nutjob" in the group might prove to be an interesting RP point.

Grand Lodge

Yes it would, I was going with mechanic I think I may increase his Str value and decrease something else, make him a bit of a heavy hitting smart guy.

Richard for example has a survival knife and bear spray as his weapons. ;-)

And his wit never forget his wit.

Oh don't worry. Still planning on a novice. I am thinking I will start with a smart hero as the first 2 levels (for all the useless knowledge from college) but multi-class to fast hero and maybe gunslinger. He'll have a lot of random bits of information he's retained over the years of schooling (sometimes useful, mostly not), but he's naturally cautious and dexterous which leads him to being a good shot and stealthy.

Let me know if I can help in anyway Zayne glad you are still interested.

Sounds interesting. Never played d20 Modern before, so will have to look up the rules for it.

Thinking of a younger (~30) ex-Mossad agent who resigns from the intelligence agency after being held for 6 months as a hostage. Troubled by the horrors she experienced as a prisoner, she moves to Minneapolis to work for her brother who runs a small private investigation business. Her psychiatrist recommends taking the camping trip to help smooth the transition back into everyday life.

Ok Ziva ... ;-)

My character and yours should get along well. Although go with whatever class you want but we do need a sleeper zombie catcher ... I mean Fast Hero .... lol! And we need someone to teach us martial arts like combat throw and improved trip, and we need wranglers (Animal Handling, riders). Horses will make great transportation later in Zombieland. They don't require fuel, they can warn us, they can be taught to fight, they can be something to pet, they can be a zombie horde distraction, they can provide us with a higher elevation to swing horsemen weapons down on a small group of Zs, they can be used to quickly GTFO, they are quieter than vehicles, they can go where vehicles can not, there are many of them in the US and will increase in numbers, they are too fast for the average Z to catch, and they can be used as food.

Marcus wanted to get an IWI X-95 but they are not made in 7.62x51mm, yet.

Not going to lie, I had to look up who Ziva was haha. I was basing it more on the hostage exchange that happened in Jordan in 1997. I am probably making a fast gunslinger type character with more urban skills.

My character might get along well with Marcus later, but given her background, at least initially she would be incredibly suspicious and distrustful of any person obviously carrying automatic weaponry on a camping trip, much less a civilian. Coming from Israel, she would probably be opposed to normal civilians who aren't in war torn areas having easy access to military grade weapons and generally disapproves of how little training or oversight there is about the purchase of such weapons. She's not anti-guns per se, but definitely agrees with her native country's approach to gun laws more than the US's. Not that she's complaining too much since the easy access to guns definitely makes her life easier.

Questions for RocksAhead:
How exactly does licensing work? Is there a DC 10 wealth check (that needs to be paid for) for something that's licensed? So the options for purchasing these things are buy on the black market for the +1 to total DC (and not being licensed) or to have 2 wealth checks (1 for license, 1 for the item)?

Cars and homes seem to be prohibitively expensive, do we just assume that we are renting/leasing and not building equity?

What are action points/reputation/should I worry about them? I couldn't find any links to them.

Can I take the talents from the Instinctive response or elusive trees? Found here: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showwiki.php?title=d20-Modern:The-Fast-Hero

Finally, are any of the weapon gadget's allowed? Specifically looking at the compact one. Also, are mastercraft items available for the +3 DC?

You actually got it. To legal own it you need to pay for the license a wealth check of 10 and then you need to buy the item. You can buy on Black Market for WC +1 but it is considered illegal and subject to search and seizure.

Don't worry too much about living quarters and transportation. I think I told Marcus that we would base them on what wealth level you had remaining after items. So if you had a Wealth remaining of greater than 5 it was a single family home with nice car. A remaining of 3 was apartment and working car. 0 was homeless and rides the bus.

rhesus_pieces wrote:

Action Points are save your keister points. Here's a LINK

that talks about some uses. You gain a set amount of these when you level but it is pretty limited. Since everyone is level 2 let's say everyone used 1/2 their action points in their level 1 stage. So you all should have 3 + 6+(1/2)2 = 10 action points at the start of campaign. You would gain another 7 when reaching level 3.

rhesus_pieces wrote:

Those are from the Prime Directive sourcebook. I don't have a copy of that book myself so I am going to say not at this point. I see a lot of the trees require dips into other trees first. I am going to require a dip into on of the basic Fast Hero trees before we go outside the basic D20Modern book. Maybe it can be your level 3 Talent.

Hesitant to allow it in that may be a work around to be able to fire a gun that is normally medium while being grappled. If you are willing to play that the compact weapon is still not able to be fired as a light weapon during a grapple than I will allow it.

Mastercraft +1 items are available for +3 DC.

Thanks! I thought they would be similar to pathfinder action points, just wanted to make sure.

Hrm, that was half of the reason I wanted to take it, but the concealment reason is still there. Would it still be +2 WP or would it change to be +1 like the equipment version?

This is Zayne and this is what I have so far.

Wealth: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4

+1 for Profession and +1 for Student = 6

Profession Check DC 6: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

+1 for beating DC and +1 for being at least 5 over = 8

That puts me at middle Class. Fair enough.

Gear on Hand:
Range Pack Standard DC 7
Windbreaker DC 6
Casual Clothes DC 8
Cell Phone DC 9-2=7 for PL6
Binoculars Standard DC 7
Flash-Light Battery Flood DC 6
Perishable Food DC?

At Camp or in car:
Non-Perishable Food DC?
DS with Pokemon DC 7?
License +1 DC 10, Take 10, wealth reduced to 7
Colt 1911 DC 15, Take 10, Wealth reduce to 5
Hip Holster DC 5
Extra magazine DC 4
Ammunition DC 4
Sleeping Bag DC 9, Take 10, Wealth reduced to 4
2-Person Domed Tent DC 11, Take 10, wealth reduced to 3

Live in an apartment with working car. Also fair for a college grad.

Ready for a canoe/camping trip. If we aren't camping can I get a longsword? I really want Archaic weapon proficiency later.

I am in the process of making a few changes so Marcus will be more realistic in some of your eyes and have room for "growth."

Just realized something and need to ask because zombies are not immune to critical hits.... but are they immune to massive damage?

If so, a minor rework might be in order

Not immune to massive damage

Did you take the Bloody Mess Perk? That could be dangerous.

Bloody Mess Feat is not core D20 modern it is a Fallout campaign specific features and as such not allowed.

Obviously since zombies will not be immune to critical hits or massive damage all zombies will have a constitution score higher than any published zombie.

Nope, not Fallout but it does have a Fallout flare to it. I mean you can call the zombie goo FEV ... lol. Although, it also reminds me of Return of the Living Dead ... brains brains brains! Oh the pain! I need brains!

Zayne Iwatani wrote:

What is the Bloody Mess Perk in d20?

It was a fallout reference. I didn't think it was real but apparently there is a fallout supplement for d20 modern. There is a bloody mess feat. Level 4. +4 damage.

Right. Ok I took your joke to refer to that which is not a legal fear in this game
