FAQ:

1.What game system are you running? D20 Modern with some rules from D20 Apopcalypse and content allowed from D20 Future and Urban Arcana as approved on case to case basis.

2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be and what is the setting? This will be a zombie survival game. The game will take place soon (3 weeks) after the outbreak so not everything has gone to complete dung yet. But you will begin the game not knowing anything about the outbreak as you return from a 30 day wilderness adventure.

3. How many Players are you looking for?Anywhere from 4-8 dedicated posters.
4. What's the gaming medium (Pbp, chat, e-mail etc.)? Play by post obviously.

5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level) Players will start Level 2 leveling will be quick and I expect that player characters may gain up to 3 to or 4 levels before the campaign is over.

6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with? Players will start the game using the Wealth mechanic of D20. Wealth rolls should be made in the recruitment thread. The characters in this game may not actually have all items gained by their starting wealth on them at the start of the game. You were on a 30 day adventure trek. I expect two inventory lists one for your possessions and one for what you have on your person after 30 days in the wilderness. You may owe a car but you won't start the game with your car on your person. You will be starting the game in a canoe so bear that in mind. Once the game starts we will be using an economical scheme from D20 Apocalypse. It involves scavenging buildings for goods.

7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes? Anything from D20 modern is allowed. Some occupations from other sources will be considered. For example the following occupations from other sources are allowed.
Urbana Arcana
Apothecary- with Educated as Bonus Feat
D20 Future
Drifter
Outcast
Scavenger
Transporter- With Vehicle Expert as Bonus Feat

Advanced Classes from other sources than D20 Modern should be run by me.

8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game?Everyone is human until they are a zombie.

9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points? 28 point buy for DnD/D20 starts at 8. Hitpoints are max first level and choice of roll or half for levels after first.

10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?Alignments don't seem to fit really in D20 Modern but uses Allegiances. I would like players to include some responsibility to the outside world in their character development. Do you have an elderly grandparent that you cared for before leaving on this trip?

11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?Sure Multiclassing is allowed per rules.

12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them? Players will make dice rolls using the basic forum dice roller. I will make any secret rolls online either in spoiler tags without descriptions or in a seperate thread.

13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules? So Wealth will be handled differently as well as some homebrewed rules relating to the Zombie's. Basically for character generation know that I am thinking of requiring frequent save throws at first. I am also thinking of providing everyone with a bonus feat that would provide +4 bonus to certain save rolls. More later.

14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)? A background is required so that I can get a feel for the character. Include in the background why you took the 30 day trip. What are looking forward to getting back to after the trip is done?

15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above? There will be some combat for sure but there will also be the challenge of searching for supplies and gettiing back to basic civilization.

16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters? All D20 Modern is allowed select parts of D20 Apocalypse, D20 Future, Urban Arcana. Against the rules would be other races, magic, psionics and cybernetics straight from the go. Other bits and pieces are subject to DM Approval.

Home Rule 0
CRITICAL HITS ARE POSSIBLE ON ZOMBIES

Grappling in the Age of Zombies:

Due to the nature of the zombies and the threat of the virus they carry I am making several home rules for Zombie attacks.
Rule 1: Zombie can only bite someone they are holding in a grapple.
Rule 2: Zombie bites are considered light weapons for terms of attacking during grapples.

Home rules Feats:

I will be involving the follow three checks very often as I feel these will be common tests that characters would need to overcome during the ZPOC. There will also be a numbing factor that will be introduced into the game representing the characters eventual adaptation to the new realty.

Overwhelming Gore Check- The sights and smells of the ZPOC require the character to make a Fortitude Save or character is Nauseated for a determined amount of rounds. DC and Rounds Nauseated will vary.

Gotcha Check-A zombie lunges from out of nowhere requiring the character to make a Reflex save or the character is considered Grappled.

Absolute Horror Check-The ZPOC will have sights that will instill panic in even the strongest willed. Requires a Will Save or character is Panicked.

As so every Character will receive one of the below as a FREE bonus feat and can only have one of these at character generation.
Iron StomachCharacter gets +6 on Fortitude saves prompted by Overwhelming Gore Checks.
JumpyCharacter has +6 on Reflex saves prompted by Gotcha Checks.
UnshakableCharacter has +6 on Will saves prompted by Absolute Horror Checks.

Scavenging Basics from D20 Apocalypse:

1) 1 scavenge (search) check is allowed for every 1000 square feet of building.
2) A scavenge check takes 10 minutes. (taking 20 is allowed but takes 3 hours and 20 minutes)
3) There are several modifiers to the search check chiefly structure condition and previous scavenging.
4) Based on your check result you will scavenge a certain amount of items (I will make those rolls similar to a treasure generation and post a description about what you find.)
5) Often what will be found is generically called Electrical or Mechanical parts. These can be then used to craft either electrical or mechanical items using the Craft skill.
6) Medicine items found will vary from antibiotics (aid in Fortitude saves from Disease as listed in the book) or single use medical kits that provide a bonus to Treat Injury skill checks depending on type.

Crafting&Fixing Items:

We will be using the system of Crafting and Fixing from D20Apocalypse. The crafting and repairing process is as below.
1. Character announces intent to craft or repair specific item.
2. DM determines two things about the item.
A. Type (Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Pharmaceutical)
B. Complexity (Simple, Moderate, Complex, Advanced)
3. Character then makes a Parts Check.
A. This is 1d20+(number of appropriate type parts on hand)
B. Table 2-17 of D20Apoc summarizes the DC for the part check. (DC starts at 10 for repairing simple items +5 if crafting and +10 for every level of complexity beyond simple. I.E. Crafting a Complex Item = 10+5+ 2x10 = 35.
C. The process of Repairing or Crafting also consumes a set amount of parts so to be attempted this is the minimum number of parts.
4. Once a character has determined they have the parts required they can do the actual craft skill check as per D20Modern
5. Actual Craft check DC is based on complexities provided in D20 SRD. Taking 10 is allowed but no taking 20 (unless you want to pay 20 times the lost parts from 3.C this is a home rule and 20 times the time to do the check)
6. Craft Chemical and Pharmaceutical can use found Fuel or Medicine as Parts.
