Baris the Monke |
Baris strikes forth with kama and knee, in a flurry of blows. Slashing and smashing into the arachnid's abnomin, making it spurt blood and other fluids from the wounds.

1st Round:
Indrick
Baris
Bladecatcher
Tochi
Spider
Wilhelmina
Sefyr
The spider reaches towards Bladecatcher, poison dripping from her fangs and...
She manages to get just under his armor, puncturing his skin, but not deep enough to inject him with her venom. Bladecatcher, take 3 damage
Wilhelmina's blessing touches all of the party, but will it be enough to take down this beast!
Sefyr releases a ray of blinding light, unfortunately missing the spider, but manages to catch Baris unaware!Baris you have been blinded for roud two.
A lot of action! I believe it's back to the top for round two, you're up Indrick!
GM Fyrian |
If the positions on the map are still correct, isn't he directly in the way of your beam? He is sitting between you and the spider. I could be wrong, but that's how I read the spell. This may be one of those areas I talked about before where I don't know exactly what I'm doing so I need some help! If you can clear it up for me then I'll fix it.
Wilhelmina Starker |
It's treated as a ranged touch attack so I think regular ranged attack rules apply, with her attacking against their AC rather than them making saves. Baris is in the line of fire so wouldn't that mean she takes a penalty to the attack roll? I forget what the rules are for hitting unintended targets.
Sefyr Kasumisdottir Norðrljós |
Yep, -4 penalty for firing into melee, thus the modifier to her roll was -2 with her +2 from dex and no base attack bonus. There aren't any rules for hitting unintended targets with actions that requires attack roles. At least none that I'm aware of in pathfinder. If you want to include a chance to hit unintended targets, just let us know.
GM Fyrian |
I'll go with you guys on this one, it sounds right to me. So that would mean that you had to beat her AC, which that roll didn't. Then Baris, you're not blind, and neither is she. I think we've got it! Thanks for being patient with me. Most of the rules I'm good with, magic is where it get's a bit tricky!
Baris the Monke |
The only time in my campaigns when an ally would hit another ally is if they got a Natural 1 on their attack and confirmed the roll with another d20 being a 3. I can give you the whole list but typically most DM/GMs don't confirm the failure, the failed attack and Attacks of opportunity are worse enough.
Indrick Penlan |
With the closing in of his allies on the spider, Indrick's use as a bowman was pretty much as useless as it was to begin with. And what little magic he knew would be rather useless at this particular moment as well.
That only left singing. Singing something INSPIRING. Almost as soon as the idea hit, Indrick found himself chanting a favorite Dwarven drinking song of his. Though he wasn't sure if any of the others knew the words, the boldly upbeat tune was sure to lift some of their spirits.
Inspire Courage: +1 to attack & damage, as well as to saving throws.
Baris the Monke |
Do I hit with Indrick inspiring me? Bladecatcher it is your turn. Come on people, let's kill us a spider. I think that would be something Baris would say...
"Come on friends, let's kill us a spider!"
GM Fyrian |
That it does! Way to support.
Baris, recovering from the sticky mess he found himself in from the web, comes back with a vengeance. The spider, trying to dodge, makes a near miss a hit by bobbing when she should have weaved, takes the brunt of the Kama attack, but is missed by the knee. You can see that she is seriously injured, but not out.
Baris the Monke |
"Come on Bladecatcher, finish it!"
Bladecatcher |
Growling, Bladecatcher alters the grip on his axe so he bring both ends to bear.
Full attack!
Attack roll 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage roll 1: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Attack roll 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage roll 2: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
GM Fyrian |
As Bladecatcher raised his axe, he could see the hatred deep in the spiders eyes, and as he lowered the axe he saw the life disappear, rending the spider in twain, and then again for good measure, quartering the beastly arachnid. The spider is no more.
Alright! So to summarize, Tochi took 6 damage, Bladecatcher took 3, and no one was poisoned (or blinded). Rock on!
Tochi Exos |
Tochi gave a sigh of relief and lowered his weapons, wiping sweat from his brow with the side of his arm before returning the war hammer to his belt and his shield to his back. As he picked his halberd up off the floor he said "Good work everyone." and turned his attention deeper into the room, trying to see if there are more webs and presumably giant spiders that they may have to deal with.

Sefyr Kasumisdottir Norðrljós |
Sefyr begins picking through the pile of bones, singing to herself To dungeons deep and caverns old, we must away, ere break of day, to seek our pale enchanted gold.
GM Fyrian |
In the bones you find... treasure!
You find a wooden dragon toy, which upon further examination is quite cleverly built – when its tail is pulled, its hinged wings and jaw move. You also find a wand and a pouch with 14 gold pieces.
Bladecatcher |
Bladecatcher sighs, seems to deflate somewhat as the spider slumps to the ground, rent asunder by his furious attack. He reaches down and pries off one the creatures fangs, mindful not to prick himself on its dripping point.
He holds the mandible over his head and shouts, "Victory is ours!"
Tochi Exos |
"Heh, indeed." Tochi says as Bladecatcher holds the fang, still somewhat coated in the fighter's own blood, aloft. He gives a shudder as he turns his attention to Sefyr. "Excellent! Now we can return it to King Falmouth in exchange for more information about Black Fang."
He's not done looking at the graffiti on the wall though, and cautiously moves closer to take a second look. "I can only read common, I don't suppose any of the rest of you might be able to make this out? It might be another clue."
Wilhelmina Starker |
Wilhelmina let out a sigh of relief when the spider finally went down. Even though the fight hadn't lasted very long, for a moment there it had looked like it wasn't going to go well.
Mindful of the fact that this would be the only time in this dungeon that she would be able to Bless the party, she wanted to get them to move on while the effect was still on. So she started moving with Tochi. But she stopped while still in range to touch both Tochi and Bladecatcher in a burst of channeled energy.
Channel positive energy:1d6 ⇒ 6. Tochi and Bladecatcher each heal for 6 hp.
Seeing the positive result helped reinforce her that much more. This group was starting to come together. It was capable of great things yet. "Come on, let's go," she encouraged them.
Sefyr Kasumisdottir Norðrljós |
Sefyr moves over the Tochi and casts light on a pebble before tossing it down the hallway. Let's see what's down there first.
Once the light is in place, she begins looking at the walls trying to see if there is anything legible.
Baris the Monke |
With Bladecatcher Baris voices his approval, "Yes, victory is ours!"
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 Acrobatics check, Baris attempts to do a standing jump to slap Bladecatcher on the shoulder...Successful!
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 Perception Check. Do I see sefyr pocket the stick? Is there anything else in the treasure besides the stick, gold, and toy?
Baris will then go over to Sefyr to see what the treasure is and put the gold in his pack,"For safekeeping."
He then goes over to the wall trying to decipher the words, following Tochi and Mina, slapping Tochi on the posterier and jumping up to slap Mina on the...Baris jumps up 2 and half feet to slap Mina below the shoulder. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 Perception Check, 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 Acrobatics check to Mina
Do we have a treasure recorder?.
GM Fyrian |
Sorry to take so long for the post, had some people over last night. I've got a list of the treasure as well, however you haven't identified everything yet. I'll post a list in discussion later on of all the treasure you've picked up. Also, I've got four of hanging out in the corner, so I'm moving you all ahead!
Sefyr throws the lit rock down into the corridor, and this is what you see:
Standing on the middle of the cavernous corridor up ahead is a strange stone pillar. Odd symbols and faintly glowing glyphs run up and down the ten-foot-tall obelisk’s sides. On the east wall, it looks like someone used chalk to write on the rough stones. It reads “The goblins fear the wyrm and do not venture through the crypt to its lair. Its breath is death.”
Baris the Monke |
Unless someone stops him, Baris stealthily moves forward, ready to jump if need be considering the magical runes.1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26Stealth Check

Baris the Monke |
Baris knowing Sefyr can take care of herself, will move onto the next screen...Yes, I was wondering about that.
Indrick Penlan |
"Hm? What's this?"
Indrick poked his head around the corner, curious to see the graffiti along the walls. The monk and the wizard had managed to head down that way first (no surprise there), and the lack of immediate unpleasant noises was enough to convince the bard that it was more or less safe. He blinked at the obelisk, but the chalk scrwal was what got his attention. "I, for one, vote that we heed the graffiti author." Wyrms with murderous breath? Not the kind of thing he was keen at looking into. Nope. No sir.
Baris the Monke |
Hey all, lookie here, isn't this the water the goblin king was talking about? Another fight on our hands, get over here quick!" Baris then grabs a loose rock and throws it into the water, waiting for something to move. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 Perception check
Sefyr Kasumisdottir Norðrljós |
Looks safe everyone. Sefyr calls and beckons to the others. This pillar is magical. Some sort of transmutation effect that relates to water. Most likely something that helps you swim or breathe water, though it could be the opposite, or somehow change a person into water. My guess is the first though. Otherwise, it looks like this is indeed Blackfang's lair. From the mention of crypts, something is buried here, which could mean undead.
Calling out to her friend, Baris! What's in the next room?
Wilhelmina Starker |
Wilhelmina thought out loud as she considered what the graffiti said. "So the Black Fang is a wyrm with deadly breath, and there's a crypt between us and it. Crypts are notorious for restless inhabitants, meaning undead. But the pool is probably not that crypt. Still, the message is curious. Someone would have had to see Black Fang's breath and lived to get back here and write it, but not lived to escape this cave. Sounds implausible I have to say. I vote we check out the pool next, but if we come to a crypt we head back to learn what we can from Fatmouth before proceeding further."
She also looked at the obelisk to see if she could discern any of the symbols on it herself. Unless she saw something that would tell her not to, she would cast Create Water to wet her hand and then touch the rune.
Baris the Monke |
Baris picks up another rock and throws it into the water...
Wilhelmina Starker |
Forgot to roll Knowledge (religion) on the runes: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10.
Wilhelmina looked back at the group to see what they thought. If the consensus was to go forward, she would touch the other runes the same way she touched the first.
Baris the Monke |
Does the water have a tunnel it goes into the walls or is it just stagnant? Either way, Baris tries to climb up the wall, over the water, and finally over to the shineys. He will likely fall into the water but we shall see.
