Hudak 1.2 |
Hudak ploughs into Mokmurian, swooping down from the ceiling. He pushes the giant back, but Mokmurian doesn't fall. Instead, he hangs suspended by a spell of flight.
Although he is pushed 10', which puts him at 40' high and in the edge of the zone of Silence. Does Hudak move with him or stay at the point of impact?
Bah. Not what I was hoping for. If he can (and I would argue that he should, if only just because of momentum and weird spell-physics), Hudak moves along with the giant.
Elisile Starbrow |
Mokmurian avoids Sefayll's disembodied hand.
Camlo's not doing much other than looking for cheese, so Illes.
If Mokmurian is 40 feet above the floor he is within range of Illes’ Pugwampi’s Grace spell, if 40 feet above the platform he is out of range.
Illes Elandru |
Hudak slams into the giant driving it down just enough for Illes to hammer at its mind with a sonic assault. The bard begins sculpting his attack by shaping sound as if he were conducting an orchestra to carry out his attack. An amplified union of a slaughtered goats bleating, a child's first flute lesson, and a Varisian carnival barker chisel at the wizard's mental defences trying to disrupt his concentration.
Well Hudak, did just bring him back into Illes spell range at 47.5 ft.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (13) + 19 = 32 to try to determine the specific spell he used to vanish.
Assuming he used teleportation magic, is there any way to determine – say through a high enough spellcraft check – the distance or direction he may have teleported to? Just having done my homework on this I suspect not, as there is a recently introduced spell (Trace Teleport) which pretty much does this – but worth asking.
Elisile Starbrow |
“I’m familiar with the spell the stone giant used,” says Elisile. “Dimension door, a relatively short range teleport. He won’t have gone more than a thousand feet away – enough to escape us if he chooses it is true – but would he flee to his army as a wounded coward? I cannot see the giants respecting such a leader. He may be nearer to hand, still within this complex – hiding, regrouping or seeking allies. We may yet find him. He may for example have retreated to the library, assuming that we could not bypass the door.”
Illes Elandru |
"What the hell kind of magic was that? How was he casting so fast? And Camlo..." Illes grabs his flute and plays something calm and quiet as he approaches the little mouse and holds out his hand for it to climb onto him. "Don't worry little guy. I can fix this, but its going to take some time."
Quick Perception for anything we might be able to grab?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Verstaile Perform Wind for Handle Animal: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (15) + 25 = 40
Sefayll Valerian |
"From what we know of the area down here, where would you flee? The library seems likely unless he seeks one of the allies we have defeated - perhaps the lamias(?) that were accosting Elisile were healers. Though he is likely to have healing available on his person if he's as prepared as his actions indicated..."
Range is only 60', but Sefayll will take a moment to try to detect any 'extra' thinking minds within range.
Elisile Starbrow |
“Let us try the library first,” suggests Elisile.
While we’re talking, did Alwyn have a Dispel Magic left to try to turn Camlo back? Either way, if Illes and Elisile didn’t spot any loose valuables here, let’s get moving. In the few rounds left of haste (I haven’t kept close track, but I think 3 – 2 probably once we’re finished talking), maybe Alwyn can heal via channel or spell while we move. I’m assuming it will take at least 5 rounds to reach the library doors. Ok, the library had a trap and a lock – we temporarily dealt with the trap and disarmed the lock, leaving the door open, so we may be able to see if anything is different (door closed, or door open with a stone giant inside the room) from a distance.
Illes Elandru |
While everyone tries to figure out wha to do when the plan falls apart, Illes quietly heals himself from the severe burns he took during the fight. "Ok, lets hit the library. If he isn't there we might be able to draw him in by threatening to fireball it. The librarian isn't going to like that, but what are gonna do?"
CLW: 7d8 + 7 ⇒ (2, 8, 2, 1, 3, 6, 4) + 7 = 33
Elisile is barely injured.
Sef is 47/72
Alwyn?
Hudak?
Demiarchos?
Elisile Starbrow |
I assume we’ll be moving as we heal. We’ll head back through the Hound Lair and into the corridor. As we approach the turn-off back to the Scanderig lair and Enga’s rest, Elisile will look ahead to see if anything seems amiss with the library (doors closed, noises, obvious evidence of Mokmurian being in there): Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36. Either way we’ll continue on to check it out.
Sefayll Valerian |
How quickly could the papers be gathered and stuffed into a pack? The treasures will have to wait, but if we don't get back here, I would prefer we had some preview into his thinking...

Treasure will have to wait? And you call yourself an adventurer!
I think it best to take what we can in case we can't get back here. I agree the papers are probably important, and probably relatively easy to roll up and take. The books could be too (not to mention the possibility of spell books) - but harder to carry. And the chest - how big is it? What can we reasonably take with us?
Alwyn Agnarrson |
"Hudak! Pick up the papers and the books and toss 'em in the bag of holding. See if you can throw the chest in there too. Don't open it or set off any traps. We'll open it later when I've restored Camlo."
"The rest of us head for the library. Hudak will catch up with us once he's looted the stage - he can fly, so that won't take long. Let's get going."
The Bag of holding was on Vethran's character sheet. Let's just say Hudak carries it.
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Papers can go in the suddenly appearing Bag of Holding. The chest is really big - remember, it's giant-sized - so it won't go in anything short of a Portable Hole, and you don't have one of those.
The group hurry out of the room, past where they battled the hounds of Tindalos, and into the corridor. The door to the library looks undisturbed.
On the healing front, I assume Alwyn can channel or something, although I believe chanelling is a standard action and so will slow you down.
Illes Elandru |
Illes blows a kiss at the chest and drawls, "As much as it pains me to part, I'll be back for you sweetheart."
I have already used 7 rounds of clw and spent a round to draw Mouse-lo in. If the others wanted that to be done on the move I can break the clw out over rounds, but I'm not sure how long we've hung around after Mokmurian fled. Also isn't Hudak still seriously injured?
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
OK, I think you need to work out how wounded people are and then from that how you are sharing out the healing. That said, you will (as a minimum) have a few minutes, rather than rounds, before things kick off - your characters don't know that, of course, so no going back to check out the chest. So you can work out the healing and do it on the move.
Elisile Starbrow |
Alwyn is our main healer, so I guess its mainly in his hands. If he pops at least one channel that should get Elisile back to full; she can give someone a potion of CMW if someone finds themselves low and out of healing.
Sefayll Valerian |
I am down to CLW scrolls today. I'm not planning to ask for healing for myself, but I did get a little cooked back there.
Sefayll Valerian |
"Not good. He's run off looking for allies. Perhaps he counts on our lack of knowledge of his lair, planning to lay a trap. And perhaps we can turn those tables on him."
After a moment, the glowing hand disappears, its magic spent. Likewise, the spell it held disappears, its energy unused.
Elisile Starbrow |
Alright, we’ll hasten back through the scanderig lair, through Enga’s rest and into the Cauldron room, keeping an eye out for any sign of Mokmurian – either present or that he may have passed.
Sefayll Valerian |
Sefayll will pause periodically (when the others check for sign of the mage) to scan for thoughts using her helm.
Elisile Starbrow |
Ok, this room requires a Will save or you get shrunk and nauseated (unless something has changed); we can either go through, hope for the best and hope we get time to wait out the effects. Alternatively, Elisile can dimension door herself and up to three other medium creatures (a large like Demiarchos counts as two, and Camlo can probably ride in a pocket and not count) across to the other side. Hudak and Illes seem to have the lowest Will saves, though Demiarchos’ is lower than Illes’. What do you think?
“The corridor on the other side of this room would be a good place to set up an ambush, should we succumb to its space bending properties. I can likely take a few of us across safely.”
Illes Elandru |
CLW Wand on Hudak: 7d8 + 7 ⇒ (5, 7, 8, 2, 6, 4, 5) + 7 = 44
Wand finished.
I have 4 charges left on a CMW wand.
Still not sure how injured Hudak was. Doesn't say on his sheet as far as I can tell, but that is roughly 33% of his total hps in healing.
Sefayll Valerian |
Sefayll will scan for thoughts on the other side of the vertigo room before saying, "Prepare your spell, Lady Elisile. I shall try to pass through to trigger the ambush or warn you of it. That way you can bring the militia and everyone will know what they are getting into."
Casting message for the group to converse and heading into the room.
Anticipated Will save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29 +2 vs. spells/effects reliant on visual effects
Elisile Starbrow |
Elisile turns to Hudak, Alwyn and Illes. “Take hands,” she instructs. “At the hellknight’s signal I shall cast the spell to get us past the room. Illes, do you still have Camlo? Good. Alwyn, I’m afraid the servant of your god must make its own way across – perhaps the chamber will not affect it a second time.”
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Sefayll walks out into the room, crossing to the other side. From the perspective of the others, she seems to shrink and disappear into the distance with great rapidity, almost as if she is falling down a deep shaft. However, she makes it to the far side with no incident and is able to report that the corridor beyond seems to be clear of Mokmurian or any other giants.
Soon, Elisile materialises beside her, together with Alwyn, Illes and Hudak.
OK, looks like Demiarchos will have to make the walk.
Illes Elandru |
Illes shudders once they reappear on the other side. The bard straightens his clothing and twists the tips of his moustache back into form. Burned flakes of both drift to the ground around him. "Nice trick long ears. Thanks for that. I'm nearly out of tricks myself."
He turns back to see Demiarchos make the walk and crosses his fingers. "C'mon Desna! We need this warbeast, not an attack poodle."
Demiarchos has the +2 from good hope for the save. It lasts a long time.
Guys, again, lets not go into another fight with Mokmurian with serious injuries if we can avoid it.
Illes is fully healed.
Sefyall is down 25 hps.
Elisile is down only 4.
No idea for Hudak, Alwyn, or Demiarchos, but Illes has healed Hudak for 44.
Sefayll Valerian |
Alwyn indicated he could (would?) be channeling, which would likely top off Elisile and Sefayll. I was waiting to see how that worked out before I worried more.
