This is a mess. I guess I'm going to get the shards out of here, and I could take Rod, Janosz and Kazadar with me by current map arrangement, but I can't see how this ends well. I'd leave behind Gil, Haladon and the 2 kalashtar. I don't think they can all get away so we'll just end up with a prisoner for shard exchange.
I was thinking Helkashtai is a public figure and that is the only potentially exploitable weakness I can think off. For example- an illusion could do something like a newsbrief hologram "Attention- Helkashtai, Under Secretary of Riedran Affairs in Sharn and her giant minions have currently set fire to so-and-so Tower in an illegal and deadly assault against Rodergo's Reavers and the Kalashtar embassy." Accompany it with detailed images of her and moving images from the fight (which could be done at Times Square sized projections) and volume could be as louder than a roaring dragon if you wanted. Range is 880 ft.
Dunno. She wanted to keep her identity secret I think. She might sue us for libel later, but I have an idea she might be allergic to the attention now.

Well, I mean would taking Kazadar be the best idea? I mean taking Rod to Karrnath may not be the best idea as he is Silver Flame, but he has the shard and is in most need of evacuation. If you take Kazadar too, we've left the party with no healing. Also he currently owes his life to the group anyway.
Once Kazadar gets a floor in between him and the giants, he should be able to escape relatively well. He can Haste himself and run, hopefully summon a gondola to get somewhere. He could jump and survive max falling damage, assuming average rolls if it got that bad. Even with above-average rolls, falling damage tops out at 120 (20d6) and he would probably have time to heal himself on the way down, assuming no areas of featherfall or traveling members of the watch put featherfall on him. If he was at full HP the fall would put him, at most, at -4.
More so than Kazadar, I think Gil and Janosz have the best shot at escape. They are tricky/resourceful/mobile sorts. Haladon may not be itching to get back to Karrnathi soil, but I don't think he is best equipped to escape. The Kalashtar might have a psychoportation power as well. Nevharath has Defy Gravity and Dimension Slide as powers and could help those two if need be, though those are not the most potent powers in the realm of escape, honestly.

Either Ez snatches who he can and teleports away and the rest try to escape through the hole, or we all go down the hole and then decide how we ultimately escape.
I'd prefer to keep everyone together and not leave anyone to likely get captured, but it may not be the smartest way.
I like the idea of publically embarrassing the Inspired.
I think ultimately it may be Ez's call on what he immediately does.

Kazadar Soranath |

True. Though i am not sure anyone will actually care (i imagine the news to read "minority attacks holding of another, less-economically-entrenched minority") i dont see a reason not to air their laundry.

Gil |

I'm going to have to study my remaining options. I've used my highest-level slots, but I have enough tricks left to aid the kalashtar's escape, I think. We really don't know what they are capable of, so they may well have an escape plan we can't account for. I have expect the watch to show up with a fire brigade to prevent this fire from taking down the whole tower.

Damn. Site ate a rather lengthy post. The short of it:
-I can't pick and choose who to D-Door. Have to be connected by touching and I can't carry Rodergo alone. Would need Janosz at least if I do that.
-You aren't going to outrun them by speed. They can all fly at 60' all day. You have 1 guy who can run at 60' for 12 rounds.
-If you are just ahead of them and try to get in a flying gondola they will just fly alongside attacking you if the driver will even take you.
-Escape would need to hinge on a transition to a chase scene. Skill rolls and a few well timed/placed spells to lose them. Alternatively get immediately to a very public place where they don't want to be seen continuing the attack.

Our other option (and I'm not saying it is a great one) is to surrender - offer them the shards in exchange for our lives ...
But everyone getting down the hole at least gives us a chance to regroup. The giants will struggle to follow us down (ok, I guess they could squeeze, but between the hole and the blade barrier they might be delayed a few rounds). And even though they can fly, it should take them a round or two to exit this building, fly down to the next level and get to wherever we are.

Kazadar Soranath |

Escaping with the shards is a great idea, i just figured we might be able to be better at who we send.
Haladon could get to Rod in a move, and then drag him down into the hole. Or one of the Kalashtar could do it if they don't have anything useful to do. Worst case, Kazadar will do it, but i figured going Total Defense would be my best bet of surviving if everyone hasn't made it down yet.

Alternatively, Hal can use grace as a swift action, move to AJ37, then lay on hands on Father Rod as a standard action. Grace spell prevents AoO from movement and lay on hands is a supernatural ability which does not provoke an AoO.
Hopefully, this should bring Rodergo to positive hps unless I end up rolling all 1s. :P

I'm not sure having Rod at positive hp would really solve any problems right now. The problem you have is a load of giants you can't defeat only separated from you by a dispel-able Blade Barrier. Rod with 3hp is unlikely to change much in regards to that.

I concur. My main concern is getting him down that hole (or ported away) without killing him again.

Mostly stuff I had already read about and consider normal among my age group (30ish).
Avoiding eye contact in public, going to extreme lengths to avoid conversations (particularly small talk), how horrific it is to be talking to someone for ten minutes and realize you don't remember their name and can't ask them now, goodbyes when people visit or you visit people being long parades of awkwardness, how horrific it is to talk to people in elevators or cabs or subways.
There were others I can't really say I've experienced, such as people from northern areas and southern areas interacting with each other. In America, we typically just don't interact with people who are from an area far-enough-removed from our area to be culturally different. Britain is an island so i imagine they can't escape interacting with people from the opposite end of the island.

Hey all, my brother Marty (Ash Walker when he occasionally visits these boards), long time role-player and gamer, has just published his first novel, a post-apocalyptic speculative fiction novel called Salvage.
Please visit his website www.martinrodoreda.com if you are interested in checking it out or ordering a copy.

![]() |

Ha! I'm not the person to ask about apps, I still like to read my books the old fashioned way. Given that my brother is younger and probably more tech savvy than me, he may have already given that some thought. I'll try to find out (or put the idea to him if he hasn't considered it).

![]() |

Be warned, my brother is quite left leaning, I imagine that comes through in his writing ... try not to let that turn you off if you are on the political right!
I actually haven't read any of this book yet, he's been keeping it quite close to his chest until its finished. He wrote (but never published) a more 'generic fantasy' novel a few years ago, it was quite good (perhaps a bit derivative).
He says this one is inspired by climate change and Necromunda (if you guys have ever played the GW game of the same name).

Tenro |

Tomorrow I will be traveling outside the US on vacation and will return on October 6th. During such time, I will likely be very sparing on the boards, and I imagine connectivity may be an issue. Please bot me as necessary. I will still try to get some posts in or at least keep up with games while in my hotel, if wifi-allows.

I have seen the Hangover 2, i could only hope we have as fun a time.
And yes, ATMs must be carefully selected. I went to Thailand back in '08, as part of a military thing. They were somewhat paranoid, they made us go out in pairs for our own safety and also because they somehow thought we would make better decisions as a duo (this is rarely the case among young enlisted).
Well, two guys got hit with bricks at an ATM. The muggers didn't know that it takes more than a brick to take most Marines down, never mind the fact that the two they had chosen had advanced belts in martial arts. So those two reported the incident and then the powers that be decided we had to go out in groups of four. Pretty annoying, but we still managed to have a good time.

Man, this fight is a f+#%ing mess. If we can get everyone through the hole, we should be OK (meaning, putting off our inevitable horrible deaths) for a few turns as the giants will have a hard time squeezing through it. Any chance of Ez teleporting most/some of us out? Gil and I can probably make our own way out of here if we get a little separation from the Riedrans.
Social anxiety is always amusing. This is my go-to site for awkward "fun".
Marty's book sounds interesting. I highly recommend this little masterpiece if climate-related dystopia is your thing.

When I went to Vietnam last year I was warned about mosquitos (dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis more than malaria) and snatch and grab or muggings at ATMs. Didn't see a mosquito at all (maybe wrong season) and limited my ATM use to daytime and public areas - didn't ahve any problems.

Tenro |

Oh I had only just recently seen some Finnish Nightmares on Facebook, pretty funny stuff.
Yeah i had to get a booster against Japanese Encephalitis before heading back to Thailand. I was gonna get some anti-malarial pills, but they are a pain to get a hold of and also some worrying side-effects came to light (aside from the wacky dreams) so i figured some DEET ought to take care of me, instead.

AinvarG |

I am very naive about travel and ATMs. The story I had read was about a tech that noticed a well-made skimmer on the ATM. He popped it off and took it apart in his hotel room to see how it was made. Within a few days, another one was in place, but he thought it was better not to press his luck, so he reported it to the bank and left it to them to solve - or not.

![]() |

Guys, I will be away for the next few days; internet access will be iffy – posting will be limited to evenings (if at all).
Rod will channel energy to heal on his next turn, getting all his allies in the tent (if possible he’ll do it at the doorway to get Ez too if the tent hasn’t been closed up by then).

12th level, so we add a point to an ability, right? (I'm checking because I didn't see Ez' ability bump and want to make sure I'm right before I go adding to Gil.)
Rough plan (I need to dig up my books for details):
Another level of recaster (last one as it is a 5-level PrC)
All saves gain +1
She will gain spells as though she reached 11th-level beguiler
She gains 6 skill points + 2 from the headband
She gains Metamorphic Spells (Space), which I need to read up on.
Hit Points: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 The dice really hate her lately. Bumping up to half for a total of 5 hp.

![]() |

Oh damn. You just played all of 12th level at 11th level didn't you?
Double level up!
I can't tell for sure because I don't know about the beguiler conversion, but your Header lists 11th level, highest skill rank is 11th level and your spells known are for a 10th level caster, which is in line for an 11th level caster who lost a level of progression to recaster.
You are long overdue for a power up. Go crazy!

Gil |

That explains another mystery. As I was reviewing my spells, I realized I had been playing with the spells list of a 12th-level character. So I'm guessing I managed to update my spells and nothing else.
Excuse me, I'm going to go smack my head on a wall for a while.
That one's brick - it will do.

Kazadar Soranath |

I've done that before. Started level ups and then never finished, or just forgot to copy the .txt into paizo.
As for Kazadar, either gonna be a level of Cleric or a level of Sovereign Speaker, though i'm not opposed to other ideas that fit with the theme and don't lose him any casting.
