Ascension to Murder (Inactive)

Game Master overfiend_87

Set in Faerun our heroes search for lost kids, however they uncover a evil cult attempting to ressurect the Lord of Murder

I'm new to DMing and even more so to PBP, but I've had a good grasp over the years of playing 3.5 and two groups that are now pathfinder. This will be set in Faerun as the title suggests, but it will be pathfinder based rules, classes with faerun feats and a few other differences.

Starting level: 1st level

Group size: I'm aiming for the average 4 - 5

Feats: No Faerun feats. Many of them don't fit with pathfinder ruleset and it'll be too complex to figure out which ones should fit where.

Traits: Traits are allowed. 2 Talents with no two the same. For example no two magic traits or Faith Traits.

Races: All core races plus Tiefling and Aasimar are allowed.

20 point buy

Experience and starting cash will be the average.

Classes: I'm allowing all core classes and those from APG.

Just so you know, the time zone I'm in is BST also known as GMT +0 hour and I stay up late anyway.

A final reminder, I'm not taking a First-come/ first-serve thing, I'm more interested in concepts so that's all I want, a concept on, race, class, personality, motivations, aspirations etc, put into a spoiler tag in a single post, for my ease of reference. I don't want to see any actual builds out there that you will have spent extra time on, that I have to then say no to.

For now I have no other plans so I will be here but once started I will inform the players if I won't be on the fourm due to either an appointment, visiting relatives or when my DMs come back off Hiatus. None of these will happen that often.

Character Concept:

Concept: Gnome Skirmisher and Freedom Fighter

Race: Gnome

Class: Rogue or Inquisitor

Personality: Veteran Fighter that stresses brains over brawn for hit and run tactics. Views self as a champion of his people. Just because you're small doesn't mean you need to surrender.

Motivation: Spent years growing up in hostile forest land where trained as a lad to learn hit and run tactics to help protect Gnome village against kobolds, goblins, and similar ilk. Learned to hit and run in fights using Viet Cong style guerrilla tactics to make up for small size. Having fought as champion for his own home, he seeks to find bigger challenges to prove that size doesn't matter.

Stressor Motivation: Recently, his village again choose to move away from a monstrous threat rather then stay and fight. He has chosen this point to leave his village as they refuse to remain and fight.

Aspiration: One day be known as a Giant or Dragon slayer as he feels this will inspire other Gnomes to not give in when faced with something bigger instead of often choosing to relocate to some place 'safer'.

Hi Aaron. A few questions to help me come up with a concept. (1) Where in Faerun is it set? (2) In what year? (3) Is basic canon being followed or are there changes you have made to the area you are setting the adventure in? (I am not a stickler for it just wanted to know).

Thanks!

I'm interested, but more campaign info would definitely be helpful.

1. I was going to set the begining in the Western Heartlands in the only place I know fairly well (though various video games) at the Sword Coast, but of course the players have the decision on where to go.

2. Hmm...year I have to admit I've not throught about but around the year that 3rd edition version would've been set up so various gods would've died and the Time of Troubles has gone by, still leaving some scars and monsters on the world.

3. I'm not going to follow it 100% to the book there will be differences like two towns I have made so far and will probably change various things. Needless to say it won't be cannon and I will have some surprises.

OK, sounds good. I will come up with a concept and post later on this evening.

now I'm starting to feel that my friend is right about this becoming far too much work than it has to be.

Anyway..as he's just told me I'll explain a few things:

Westernheartlands, The sword Coast to be more specific and the starting area as guards on a caravan coming from Nashkel and working it's way to Beregost. There have been recent Orc raidings in the area as well as many other problems in the area. Everyone would've heard roumers of dissappearing children in Beregost and no idea why. The Flaming Fist have been sent for but you have no idea about their progress since you havn't gotten there yet.

I'll add more details to the selected players depending on their own pasts as well as where they come from. The caravan also carries iron from the mines to Beregost's Black Smith and though the caravans have been raided the iron doesn't appear to be missing.

just a minor edit. Eastern Heartlands, The Sword Coast.

Thanks! I'll throw up a concept later but right now I'm thinking a half-elf sorcerer (with a few rogue levels later) or a half-orc paladin.

I have played FR almost all my playing time, places I have campaigned are the Dales and the Vast (including Raven's Bluff), I don't know if I would have a chance to join, I always play an elf wizard, but I can play any other character you wish. Thanks.

My concept:

Character Concept:

Concept: Woodland Protector

Class: Ranger/Sorcerer Prestige Arcane Archer

Personality: A dour elf, he has a flighty personality (due to his Fey blood) which will sometimes be overly cheerful making his dour moods appear even more dour than they truly are.

Motivation: Growing up in Evereska he felt that the elven people turned their backs on the forestlands they once protected. He left Evereska in order to do so feeling that one elf can make a difference. He dislikes elven isolationist policies but feels disconnected from the world of men (part of the reason for his dour moods).

Plot Rationale: He sees the Orcs as a threat to all things. Once he heard about the raids he decided to sign up and help.

Spoiler:
concept: Ecentric/Half-crazed Alcemist

Race/Class: Half-elf/Alchemist

Personality: To smart for his own good and knows it. Headstrong and stubborn, left the academie after a row with the headmaster who disaproved of dangerous, unsupervised experiments. Would rather be right than happy.

Motivation: New/rare ingedients, the freedom to experiment. New recipies and inovative ways to applie exicting ones is what drives him.

Aspirations: To prove to the headmaster the power of his experiments and in doing so that he was right and the headmaster wrong.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Am I reading this correctly, this is the Forgotten Realms circa the 3rd Edition version, yes?

I would also like to throw my hat into the ring. I can certainly do once a day generally speaking, if not well more, and will always let you know if I will end up indisposed from posting for an extended period of time.

Basic concept (I will flesh out later if I can):

Spoiler:

Name: Whisper
Race: Tiefling
Class: Rogue
Concept: Pickpocket aspiring to become great adventurer
History: Originally from Waterdeep, unwanted child of a spellcaster who was seduced by a half-fiend in a pact-gone-wrong, took to the streets at a young age. Largely human looking, except when opens her mouth has pointed teeth, and cannot speak above a harsh rasp, hence her name. Struggles with her demonic nature, at once impulsive and greedy but also desires to prove to the world she can become better than what her heritage suggests. Decided to get out of the city; joined a caravan whose leader didn't look a gift guard in the mouth which successfully arrived in Beregost. Has taken an interest in the local goings on as an opportunity to escape her old life for good (but still can't help swiping the coin purse of the odd passer by... if she thinks they deserve it).

So, my concept...

Spoiler:
Lerin
CG Male half-elf
Sorcerer (a few rogue levels over his career)

Lerin is a carefree sensualist who loves travel and adventure. He is brash, impulsive, and lives in the moment. He doesn't like being told what to do or anything that restricts his freedom. He also has a soft spot for the poor or down-trodden and will go out of his way to help even if he doesn't like to admit it. He also cannot abide tyrants and will do everything in his power to aid in their removal from power.

I can flesh this out a bit more if needed. I also have an idea for a half-orc paladin if that would be a better fit for the group/adventure.

To answer you're question it's fine. As my friend keeps trying to tell me you should choose the class that you want to play, not choosing a class simply because the group "needs" it like cleric or something.

It's your choice, I'll be fine with whateer you choose.

Have you chosen a class yet? Rogue or Inquisitor?

I'll go with Inquisitor.

That will be a nice combo role spot to give a bit of roundness to the character and starting situation.

Great I think we've got our group. Only 5 people so I'll take all 5 :) I'll post up the discussion thread first and then the main campaign thread. If you guys could post your characters on here or the discussion thread I can make the first post including spoilers involving each of your pasts :)

I like to have a mixture of Roleplaying and fighting when playing usually and as a DM I'd like to see the same too :)

Here's the discussion thread:

On a side note, remember to post as your alias and to Dot the thread. Those that don't know, Dotting is done by posting with your main account and alias' can be made by going up to your account and it should pop out at you.

you havn't posted on the IRC thread yet.

I apologize. I've been slammed with stuff. I'll get my character posted later today.

kk, if you don't finish it in time then to save hassle I'll divvy up exp to you. Plus best to mention what you were doing the other rounds if you join in time.

I'm going to have to withdraw as I'm going to be busier than I expected for the foreseeable future. I just won't have time for this. Sorry.

Are you still looking for players, quite a few of the games I pbp have collapsed recently, so I can put another character through its paces. I'm willing to go with whatever class you might need, as I'm late in getting to apply.

it's okey. I kinda went a bit fast through the recruitment period anyway so no worries :)

Well funnily enough I am now :)

You have only come ot my attention since I havn't watched this thread for most of the day, but Alex said he vouches for you so welcome aboard.

ATM for rp terms I can't simply drop you into the party HOWEVER we can work out a way that you ended up in Beregost by coming from the North from say Baldur's Gate or something. Gives you plenty of time. Head over to the OOC chat to introduce yourself and such and then I'll give a post base on your backstory like I have done so for everyone, though this site locks posts so I'll have to add it as a seporate post. It'll be in a spoiler with your name on it once you have a character prepped any everything:
