Arelia clearly holds back the frustraition and anger, doing a few hand gestures and mumbling of arcane words and you feel a change in the air as she then relaxs, clearly finishing the spell.
The man then looks up and appears very relaxed and calm. Arelia turns to the group.
"I believe it has worked. He won't have any reason to lie to you." she sighed, taking out her book and flicking through it. The book has no title.

'Wonderful, let's start with the simple things. Please, tell us your name, where you have traveled from, and who you're currently working for.'
DM Aron Marczylo
Looking over to Badger he smiles
"Xavian Stalken, from Waterdeep low ranking member of the Xanther's guild." he explains simply, clearly giving out what was said with ease.

'Well, Xavian, who told you of the temple in the woods? What were you doing there. Did you have any contacts in Beregost?'
Solaria Jesari
Solaria comes behind badger and whispers in hie ear, "Remember to ask him why the half-elf girl was so valuable and did he know what the buyer had in mind for her?"
DM Aron Marczylo
"I...was told by Master Davian of the strange things that went on here. I investigated and found the kobolds. Speaking in their tongue I paid them to take me to the temple where I could buy a child. I offered for the half-elf girl but the cleric would not allow me to leave with any of them. I needed a child slave to sell to a buyer, Lord Grudblud." he paused for a moment as if thinking about the final question. "I don't know if anyone is here or not. Most agents don't know each other and we kill those above us to advance. If there is one he has not revealed himself to me."
Badger Woods
Badger nods as he listens to Solaria.
'Yes, oh, so how do you recognize each other. Just so we can know when we run into someone else it would help us quite a bit if we knew what code signs or words to use to identify ourselves. Could you please teach us, you know, friend to friend. And where currently are Master Davian and Lord Grudblud?'
DM Aron Marczylo
"We use the rings to reveal ourselves to the leaders like Master Davian. He lives in Baldur's Gate, but I don't know where. You don't find him, he finds you." he explained and shrugged about the symbols to identify themselves. "As I said, the ring will be all the proof you need as they are good at telling if you lie or not. Lord Grudblud...I have no friendship with him nor love for what he does. He lives up north in Bloodstone village, close to here on the dirt road. He will most likely be sitting at home, gorging on food and sitting on the piles of coins he inherited from his parents. He just sits there waiting for the delivery. I didn't want to give him the child, but if I did it would be no skin off my back. Not like I know the kid or anything." he shrugged clearly showing he didn't care about the girl as a person and angering the guild mistress.
Badger Woods
'Just the rings? Oh, how clever of you. So, do you have any half-way houses or places that you know you can stay and our safe spots to trade information or get resources? I can't imagine that you'd travel all this way without learning of a few places that were safe for a smart agent like yourself.'
Badger pulls out the pair of letters written in cipher. The one from the hobgoblin priest and the one from Xavion.
'Speaking of how clever you are. Could you help me with these couple of letters. If you could explain the cipher used on them then it would be a real help. Oh, and who gave you this letter that you were carrying.'
DM Aron Marczylo
"I don't know of any, except in Bloodstone village. I only operate in this area and I don't get informed on any other places unless I'm supposed to be there. It's to stop people invading and finding us out." he looked at him, still smiling as he seems to like spilling his guts like this. This letter was one I had. It is written by Davian...signed his full name. We were planning on delivering the child and then blackmailing him so we had another source of income. If you want I can describe what it says exactly, but I have already said all it contains. The other one...I don't recognise this code. If you give me time I can decipher it for you. Free of charge." he offers.
Arelia steps forward smiling down to the group.
"I cast a powerful enchantment on him. He will be like this for 10 days. More than enough time to find this out." she assures everyone and the man appears to take no notice, focusing more on the code, peicing it together.
Badger Woods
'Thank-you Arelia. Xavian is being very helpful now.'
Knowing now that time is not as critical, Badger is more than willing to give Xavian some time to work on the code.
'Would you like some food, Xavian? I'm sure that people have forgotten that while you were sitting her. Here's some bread and cheese. I've got a bit of water to help wash it down.'
DM Aron Marczylo
He nods, smiling and taking the food and drink once his bondings are released and focusing straight on the code, hoping to attempt to decode it. Given time he might be able to work it out.
When given the time he looks back up and smiles as he manages to copy everything out onto a seperate page for you to read.
"I hope you're pleased with this. It was written in Undercommon, the languages of those who live underground." he pointed out as he hands over the parchment to Badger.
Dear, Priest of the Lord of Murder,
All is not lost. You will soon realise that you are gaining unholy powers. This is caused by my coming Ascention. You know deep down this is true for I could not possibly know this. We are working on tracking down my brothers and sisters to slaughter. Start by re-opening my temple outside Beregost. Begin to kidnap the children to sacrifice in my name. Each sacrifice will bring me one step closer to becoming a deity.
I will send one of my mortal lovers, the large Orc, to meet you at the temple after word reaches my ear about the kidnappings and will explain in detail the next steps involving taking over the city. Other groups are becoming interested in our plot and are willing to help. Followers of my Fiance will help keep a eye on the road and any interesting people who enter the town. I trust my servants have made the armour strong enough for you? I hope this protect you from any who would challenge my ascention.
The large Orc will bring his people to help you and the rest of his group will attack the caravans from Nashkel. He will not attack you and his warriors shall be focused on the humans. They are the protectors and if anything happens to the temple, I shall know.
Work hard for this new Goddess is one of Vengence and will destroy those who get in her way.
Let the rivers run red with the blood of the Heathens,
Maiyn Tyrlylth, The Dark Mistress
Badger Woods
Badger shows the letter to the others and to Arelia Evilbane.
Whispering quietly to the others Badger says, 'We'll need to have copies of this letter made and distributed. We should also ask the Dwarf if he can make us copies of the ring. We'll need to have pictures drawn of the ring to go with copies of the letter.'
'I'd suggest copies of this, Lord Grudblud's letter, and our findings from speaking to Xavian.'
'Information should go with Captain Frakes and to Baldur's Gate. This talk of an attack on a city can only refer to Baldur's Gate. The knowledge of the rings will allow the guards of the city to keep their eyes open.'
'I would though suggest that guards don't arrest people that they spot with the rings but keep them under watch. If the enemy should learn they are being targeted by the rings, we'll lose the ability to net far more of these criminals. If our good smith can make copies, it might even be good to have a few agents of the crown stroll through certain bars and markets in the hopes that an agent will come forward thinking they are finding a fellow conspirator.'
'Our fellow, here, has said they only use the rings as identifiers and they don't know each other. We must use that to our advantage.'
Badger listens to the other's comments before returning to speak to Xavian.
'Xavian, I wish that I had met you weeks ago. Now, tell me, do you recognize any of these names in this letter that you translated. Did the priest of the temple say anything on what he was going to do with so many children or did he mention anything on his religion?'
Solaria Jesari
Solaria marvels at the techniques of the inquisitor and the power in Arelia's spell, she tries to take in the content in the interrogation, but her mind wanders to playful things. She goes to TzeTing's side and keeps her friend happy, whilst they watch the proceedings.
Badger Woods
'Copies of the ring you say?' Kyras muses at the inquisitors suggestions, thinking of the possibilities. 'Clever gnome.' he says looking with admiration at Badger. "I love it! Lets do it!"
'If you like that then there is one other idea you might like. It will need the help of someone who speaks elven to teach me some words. I speak some Sylvan but I'll likely need to speak elvish.'
'I'll also need the help of some magic since my own studies in the art of disguise are not nearly adequate to the task. My mentor used to tell me of such a spell; so, I'm fairly sure if the Forest Lord would grant it then others should know of it too. A spell to help perfect the features of a disguise.'
'While I said that I'm too short to look like Xavian, I'm not too short with some disguise to appear as a young elvan female.'
'Trust me, I have no personal interest in the role but I don't think anyone else here has the proper size to pull off such a role. It will likely cost me some of my straw like locks and the idea of having some apparatus attached painfully to my nose to make it appear shorter alone is enough to give me aches and pains. But, I can't think of anything else that might get us close to Lord Grudblud.'
Whisper Blueflame
Whisper will toss her own two coppers in when they are NOT in the same room as Xavian.
"If we want someone to look like a child, I think Solaria might be the better choice. Just practically speaking." She eyed Badger. "You speak goblin, right? You'd be more convincing, no offense, disguised as a gobber."
In part, Whisper thought this because Solaria was obviously disposed to more child-like behavior. She didn't know how to say this well, so she just kept it to herself.
"Your plan to copy the ring is sound, but double and triple check to be sure they're good copies. I'm sure people have tried to counterfeit those, and I reckon the penalty for being found out is painful."
Whisper chewed her lip, further into the conversation, pondering something. "I've been thinking. I've done... let's say freelance contractual work with an organization in Waterdeep called the Violet Shadow. Specialize in trading information, and perhaps the, ah, occasional acquisition of misplaced items. Now, they usually stay the hells out of a place like Bloodstone or get in the way of the Xanther. But if this guy was operating originally out of Waterdeep, I was thinking of maybe sending word to find out. Only thing is, I don't trust the standard courier situation. I'd probably have to pay for a message spell of some kind. You think it's worth it?"
Just making stuff up off the top of my head about Whisper's previous employers in Waterdeep, so if anything contradicts, please feel free to correct and we can adjust.
This is also a reminder/place holder that Whisper needs to later share what she found in the books, but she won't actually have read them until a couple days from now, and we should finish this business first.
DM Aron Marczylo
Don't worry, I like it. Gives me some info to kick around and use. It wouldn't be too contradictory unless it was something like "I'm good friends with Drizzt Do'Urden, perhaps we could get him to join us" or something along those lines. I'm pretty flexable with most things, but thanks for the concern.
Malstei Alenuath
Mal will travel to the location where the interrogation is taking place. Once everyone leaves the prisoner Mal will address the group, "It looks like there is more to what is going on here then meets the eye at least based upon what I have just learned. I think we should discuss all we have learned in a safe place before deciding what to do next".
Badger Woods
When they have located to another spot to talk;
'Before we leave Beregost, we still have two problems locally that we need to deal with. There is a farmer being attacked by goblins and something else. There is also the orc encampment that might still have some people needing rescue. While we won't get like the Drow's devoted lover we may learn something more when we clear that infestation from the woods.'
Solaria Jesari
Solaria speaks, "Both are equally deserving quests, to protect this town, I'd say we clear the threat that's closest to the town. Though if we take the encampment, the information you might find Badger, could take us closer to the demons and devils behind this evil."
DM Aron Marczylo
There's also a few notices on the board. Kinda hinted this but it's a board of general stuff in town though it's also used for a bounty board as there are always adventuers travelling town-to-town or bounty hunters out for quick gold. None of you had actually said if you were taking interest in the board.
Whisper Blueflame
Whisper watches Badger and Solaria continue the conversation as if she hadn't even spoken at all, and scowls. "Ya know, I know I'm the icky tiefling and all, but if you want me to shut up, just say so. Don't just ignore me like that."
Whisper turns and leaves, discarding her offer to contact her guild in Waterdeep, and heads for the tavern. She'll stop and read that bounty board on the way.

Again, she will stop at the bounty board and then head to the tavern.

Beregost Notices
You notice the name has been striked out and the picture was of the Orc who's head you brought back to Beregost.
An Orc raiding party has been spotted and been causing some trouble on the road between here and Nashkel. They have been disrupting the trade between the two and stealing iron ore as well as other supplies. So far a group of adventuers killed the leader, but the group is still hanging outside the village limits. The watch will pay handsomely for this problem to be removed and the return of any living men and women you find.
This note appears to scrawled on the peice of paper and it seems quite scruffy.
My husband has been missing for some time and due to all the missing children the watch have not been bothered to help us. We are only a small family, living here with my husband and beautiful baby girl, but he has recently gone missing. I tried not to worry, but I have seen a few goblins scouting outside my home and I fear for his life and our safety. Please I beg anyone who reads this to find my husband. I am willing to reward anyone who can bring me proof of his death or to return him to us. I beg of you as a scared and lonely mother that these goblins are to be killed and I can bring up my daughter safely.
Those who can read this notice clearly must either have dealings with devils or enjoy the company of such creatures. Either way, I request your assistance in the matter of the village kidnappings. I personally am glad that those adventures killed him. If you are one of those people then please stop on by as I have a deal I would like to make with you. Remove this note if you accept and come to the address below.
The address it displayed below as to the place where to go.
I am embarrassed to say, but my Archaeologists have disappeared after they went to a few important sites that were pin-pointed by myself. I am not only the mayor, but the curator at the museum of Sjir-Tokeq. I am willing to give out any information about their study and location once you have arrived to speak with me in person. I fear monsters may be the cause for their disappearance, but I must be sure.
Signed,
Aramil Amakiir
A group of undead have been spotted up north past Bloodstone village. Passerbys have seen these groups of undead marching around The Wood of Sharp Teeth. Reports suggest there are murmerings hums out from the trees and a loud hissing noise has been heard from time to time. Light radiates from inside the forest but no one has invesigated the source.
This is a warning, stay away from the forest, especially at night!
Malstei Alenuath
"The townsfolk are looking for a band to raid the Orcs. Were Whisper still here I am sure she would suggest we pick up a reward since we are looking to handle that problem snyway. A more profound and probably long term difficulty involves the vision I had in the temple. While hovering in the void between life and death a malignant entity attempted to claim my soul. The intervention of my Goddess, Aerdrie Faenya, is the only thing that saved me from perhaps an eternity of torment. Its aspect was drawn on the wall of the temple, when I asked none of you had recognized it. Evilbane did. After a number of attempts to convince him to tell me what he knew, he finally revealed to me that the creature that came to me was the dead God Bhaal. We need to ensure that these cultists do not resurrect him or it will bring great suffering and death to all people." Malstei states with conviction.

Beregost Notices
Does the "Missing Husband" post have a description of him and where he was last seen?
Whisper notes the names and locations, if provided, of each person who put up a notice.
She also takes down the Abyssal notice and slides it into her clothes. She has no immediate plans to respond, but this way no one else can either.
It occurs to her she needs to buy some of her own writing materials. She detours to the nearest papermaker, tanner, bookmaker, or printmaker to buy a blank book and a scribe's kit.

Watching Whisper leave, Badger turns and asks, 'Uh, did I do something wrong?'
Solaria looks at Badger quite shocked, "What's she gone off like that for....No, I don't think you did Badger. Perhaps she's upset with me, she's a funny one and I thought she was my friend." Solaria turns away from Badger and shuffles off after Solaria, quiet sobs may just be heard as she breaks into a run after Whisper. In her mind, its all my fault, its only my planar traveling friends that are real. I bet she doesn't even like me really. as waves of apprehension sweep over her as she follows Whisper, wondering if she would still be friends. | DM Aron Marczylo |
Yeah and she says he went missing when tending to the field. Not sure if I aded it but there were sightings of Goblins close to the farm, possibly to steal their crops.
Badger Woods
'Well at least it wasn't me.' says Badger as he watches Solaria go after Whisper.
'Alright, Mal, so we now have a name for the God but a dead God? I mean there were rumors of troubles with the Gods but can a God really die? Which makes me wonder how it can be resurrected if it really is dead?
'It all seems rather large for people like us. We find children that have gone missing or clear out some orcs. Dealing with Gods? That is something for other Deities and their progeny to worry on, right?'
Malstei Alenuath
"I am not sure if he can be resurrected but I would prefer not to find out. I hope that by defeating his followers we will simply prevent his return, I am not sure if that makes sense but it seems the only course we can pursue", Mal takes a deep breat and considers Badgers last statement.
"Unfortunately I believe our path is clear to us, we were meant to do this Badger, why else would my Goddess intervene on my behalf? I believe that all of us, so far from our homes and outcasts in many ways were brought together for something far greater than any of us could accomplish alone", Mal says with a sense of wonder or perhaps reverence in his voice.
Badger Woods
'Slaying monsters and maybe, just maybe, one day taking on a dragon is one thing. Meddling in the affairs of gods is another. It will bring us little but sorrow and pain it will.
'Still, I won't run if you follow this path. I'm not sure how far I'm up to such things. I felt good uncovering the diseased heart that had been planted here but that doesn't give me any illusions of what is in stake for us if we go pursuing the agents of a God.
'The sword that I have been entrusted to carry has some deeds yet to be written. I'll stay close wherever this path takes us.
'For now, before we try to save all of Faerun, let's head to the tavern tonight and on the morrow agree to meet and hunt the goblins that pester the farmer.'
Badger graciously bows his companions ahead of him towards the tavern.

Whisper sits in the tavern with her new journal, drawing a rough map of Beregost and where the different people went missing, and where the goblins were spotted. She also marks the location where the Abyssal speaker said to meet him/her/it, to see if there's any correlation.
She looks over at the halfling, the worry apparent on Solaria's face, and Whisper, though convinced she was the wronged party, somehow feels badly regardless to see the tiny woman regarding her so earnestly. She's seldom felt like this, and doesn't quite know what to do with it. "Am... am I your what?"
"I can't think of anyone who's ever asked me if I was their friend, before. Who wants to be friends with a thing like me?"

You don't see a pattern. The man lives in the dingy part of town as per the directions, the goblins are up north where they appear to be actively fleeing the forest from what you overhear and the kids went missing all over the town usually in the street or in some cases right out of the other people's homes.
Solaria Jesari
Solaria, forcing a smile under her sad eyes, "Despite what everyone says, not all halflings are the life and soul of the party, attracting friends all the time. Some of us follow a different path, one where the love we thought we had was stolen, and replaced with loathing and ... I don't want to say it. But you have helped me for no reason, other than you could, or so it seemed to me. You and the others are the only ones to have done that for some time, other than my other planes family.
You showed me kindness, so I thought it was because we were friends, but if I'm wrong, I'm sorry..." Solaria turns her face away, lowering it slightly as her shoulders judders, her hand rubbing her eyes.
Badger Woods
Badger orders a large hen or duck with fixings to be cooked along with the various trimmings of vegetables, rolls, butter, and fruit pie for desert. He'll pay for a dinner to feed all the companions along with purchasing the first round of drinks. He'll leave up to the individuals whether they wish to sit and share at the table with him or take their food and sit alone with their thoughts.
'Well, if we are going to dabble in the affairs of Gods then we might as well live one night as Lords and Ladies. We have much to celebrate before risking our lives on fresh troubles on the morrow.'
Badger will spend 20 to 30 gp making sure that all the companions are well fed and have good drink.

Whisper tried for the life of her to remember when she had shown kindness to anyone let alone Solaria.
And then it occurred to her that Whisper considered a kindness to herself was when anyone didn't go, "Aggh, what is wrong with your teeth?!" and chase her out of a place with a torch and pitchfork. Okay, that exact event was unlikely in the city where she grew up, but she was used to being ignored and ostracized.
It never occurred to Whisper that anyone else might feel the same way.
She also noticed the halfling seemed to be starting to cry and she had NO idea how to deal with that.
She shifted awkwardly in her seat, and signaled to the barkeep and said, "Mulled wine for the halfling." She pulled up one of the stools the tavern kept for small-folk, with the climbable rungs so they could easily access the seat while sitting at the same height as the larger folk in the region. She patted the seat for Solaria to join her.
She chewed on her lips (which were calloused from repeated past such behavior). "Nobody is nice to me, Solaria. Nobody should be nice to me. I'm a freak, and you know that. I don't get why you and Badger and everyone have been... have... I don't know, treated me more than just a business partner. I shared some information I wouldn't trust with just anyone and no one listened. I figured you guys had wised up and were ignoring me." She shrugged. "I can't talk any louder than this, maybe you just didn't hear me in the excitement of it."
When Badger later arrives, Whisper has no problem partaking in free food.
She later shows the group her little map and the info on the bounties on the notice board. She will mention the Abyssal notice only if she's sure no one is listening in on them.

Funnily enough I made a Tiefling that's very emo. Different is that funnily enough, I gave him human hight, rolled and he ended up being 6ft 4inches lol. So he's a tall, lanky Tiefling who's far, FAR more obviouse that whisper. Tail, goat horns, goat eyes and a forked tongue.
A young serving boy comes to your table with a smile. He appears to be the young age of sixteen, maybe older. He smiles to you all as he hands over the wine.
"Here's the Mulled wine. No charge. Brining back my sister is something my family will repay anyway we can." he blushes a little as he says this. His blond hair, seeminly messy and apron messy. "So...err...can I get you beautiful ladies anything?" as he asks this he looks between the two of you. You get the vibe that he's trying to be charming, but his inexperience shines out, even to you Whisper.
Malstei Alenuath
Mal sits quietly with Badger (and presumable Whisper and Solaria) while he eats somewhat moodily. Then his demeanor clearly shifts, Mal becomes more talkative and probably says more to Badger (all small talk) at the table than he has for the prior weeks the group has been together.
Once Whisper mentions the notice in Abyssal, "This note seems like a good lead if somewhat suspicious".
I will be away for a few days. Feel free to DMPC me. I will stick with the characters from here on in.
Badger Woods
'I'll be honest, Whisper, I'm a Monster Hunter. Demons and Devils are pretty high on the list of things that I distrust and am trained to hunt. The associating with people that consider Demons and Devils as friendly doesn't sit well with me.'
'I know you,' speaking to Whisper, 'are good in a fight and I have no quarrel with you. I am though leery of associating with someone who calls out to demonic forces.'
'Solaria, is proof that there is a wide range of choices for association without having to choose devils and demons. Then again, I'm only a novice when it comes to the planes. It may be that past history of problems that have been caused have coloured my opinion of devils and demons.'
'There just isn't a lot of history between Faerun and the realms of Demons and Devils of benevolent association. And any people that would consort with Demons and Devils; often, has worse plans for Faerun.'
'I'm sorry, Whisper, as I've said, I've no quarrel with you. You did well in your aiding us and the citizens of Beregost.'
'I'm just leery of who might be putting a notice like this up on a town board. The very words suggest the person who wrote this note knew who was behind the kidnapping but chose to do nothing. That hardly endears him', looking at Whisper and Solaria, 'uh, or her to me. How many children's lives might have been saved if this person had chosen to act? They didn't even need to act physically, just drop a word in the right ear would have been enough.'
'Then again, the writer's words suggest that they know more of what is going on then the townsfolk. It would be foolish to pass up an opportunity to learn more. It just angers me that such a person might be living in this community doing their part to protect the others. In Gnomish, the word for village is very much tied to the concepts of community and the notion of children. The children and the village are the legacy that must be protected at all cost.'
'Anyways, I've probably said too much already on my thoughts. This is your lead and I'll defer to your judgment on this Whisper. I'm sorry I didn't speak up louder on your proposal to send message to your contacts in Waterdeep. I was kinda lost in my own thoughts and Xavian at the time. I trust you to know the risks and to do what you think is best. If sending a message to people in Waterdeep is what you think will be best, then I know you will do it and if you don't think that is best then I know you'll do that.'

We haven't decided. We're still talking about it IC.
Part of Whisper would have loved to mess with this guy's head, but she didn't want to get Solaria any more upset than she was. She smiled, mouth closed, and simply shook her head, and awaited Solaria's reply.
'I'll be honest, Whisper, I'm a Monster Hunter. Demons and Devils are pretty high on the list of things that I distrust and am trained to hunt. The associating with people that consider Demons and Devils as friendly doesn't sit well with me.''I know you,' speaking to Whisper, 'are good in a fight and I have no quarrel with you. I am though leery of associating with someone who calls out to demonic forces.'
"You're leery? You never met my mother." She shook her head. "As you say, he may have information. Question is: confront him directly, pretend to take him up on his offer, or see what we can learn about him indirectly?"
Badger Woods
'My mentor has taught me the best to know if a bear is home is to step in its cave. 'Course, you might lose an arm doing it that way.' Badger grins for moment.
'I'm for the direct confrontation. We'll learn more by just paying attention to what this person is asking and what they feel they need to tell us then by any other means.'

"Oh, alright miss." he nods and appears disheartened as he leaves, heading back over to the bar where a older-looking man starts complaining at him and handing him several orders at once.
