Eriniyes' bolt flies across the gap between vessels and grazes the pirate captain's side. The man gives a little yelp, pulls out a potion and downs the contents, moving to give himself cover from arrow fire.

Is Hobart going along for the ride with Rorse's craziness? Something tells me they'll need a good healer...

Titus Cagnaletti |

I can't make much sense of the map right now. If someone's close enough, I'll flurry of blows. If not, I'll charge. If I can't charge, then move and normal attack. Modify the roll below as needed.
Titus cracks his knuckles as boarders swing over and install boarding planks. The goliath lets loose with a massive swing of his fist.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Nazard |

Several people have mentioned at one time or another that they're unable to figure out the map. Does the confusion come from the fact that the upper level of the aft deck is represented separately below the main map, or because people don't realize that if you click on the map in the blog, it enlarges to full screen?

Nazard |

Titus charges headlong down the ladder and across the deck to land a solid punch on the boarder to the left of the landed plank. The man, still regaining his balance, crumples in a heap on the deck. Hobart fires an arrow at the same man Eriniyes' shot, his arrow landing solidly in the man's chest. He too, falls in a satisfying heap.
Rorse to act...

Rommin Hawkridge |
Titus said he was preparing for a brawl, so I'm going to take that to mean that he moves into position to intercept boarders like Niesen. Hobart's arrow takes the enemy scorpion operator in the throat and he goes down in a gurgle of blood. Rorse's shot grazes one of the plank operators, drawing blood and a gasp but the man works through the pain.
Rommin to act...
Sorry about the delay posting...
Is there someone on the other side who is barking orders? One of my favorite targets!
To Hit 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Damage if hit 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Oooh! Roll to confirm... 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
aw, crud.

Titus Cagnaletti |

I assume that the figures in white are boarders? They just kind of blend in I suppose. I can tell the party members easily, we have the nice 'token' look. The layered look is a little confusing too. You're doing fine with the tactical maps, I think it's just something I'm not used to.

Doh! Now I understand the confusion. I was finding the labels confusing last time, so I left them out. The figures in white are your soldiers, its the brown ones with pointy swords that are the boarders (and three of them have red X's through them that mean they're down/dead). As for the layers, the ladders line up one each other, so each one is only two squares long. The square at the bottom of one ladder corresponds with the bottom square of the same ladder on the other layer.

Rorse mounts up on Vero and rides down to the main deck near the landed boarding plank. Lilo follows him.
Rommin takes aim at the pirate captain that Eriniyes just hit. Although his arrow heads straight for the man's chest, it slooooooows a second before impact and only draws a small amount of blood before dropping to the deck.
Another man on the enemy ship rushes to take the fallen pirate's place at the aft boarding plank, they get the board halfway up.
ROUND #
The boarders on your ship find their footing and move to attack. One steps up to Lilo and takes a vicious swing at him but misjudges the height differential and misses high. The other remaining boarder moves to attack a soldier with similar success.
Scorpion operators on both ships fire their payloads, striking hulls and ripping gashes in sails.
The Lady Iona archers also let loose, taking out two scorpion operators.
Niesen moves to join Rorse and Lilo.
Eriniyes to act...

Nazard |

Eriniyes lets loose at the pirate captain again. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23; critical confirm 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23; damage 2d8 ⇒ (7, 6) = 13. Eriniyes' bolt flies true, but just as Rommin's did, it slows just before ripping the captain's throat out. The bolt stops, drawing a small amount of blood from his neck, then falls to the deck.
The pirate captain returns fire at Eriniyes, his arrow narrowly missing the witch.
Titus to act...

Eriniyes |

Nice rolling Nazard!
Eriniyes yells to the rest of her crew "Their captain has some sort of shield protecting him from arrows!"
She will focus on the ones trying to board for now, firing at the closest pirate.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Nazard |

Titus swings back at the boarder who just attacked him (not Lilo),
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10; damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7; damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Both meathooks miss the nimble pirate.
Hobart takes aim at another pirate working the aft plank. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6; damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Yeah, not even close.

Rorse |

Round 3
Rorse sees that Lilo has his hands full and decides to take on boarding the other ship on his own. Make these scumbags rethink boarding a ship ever again.
ride1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 Rorse and Vero hurry across the boarding plank.
once across the plank vero will bite at who ever is closest and Rorse will take a shot.
vero bite1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 211d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 no trip
Rorse shot1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 161d6 ⇒ 4

Nazard |

As Rorse and Vero make a mad dash across the boarding plank, Rommin takes one last shot at the pirate captain. Again, another incredible shot which again, slows down just before hitting the captain and only drawing a little blood where it should have skewered his right shoulder.
Lilo to act...(still waiting for the aft plank?)

Nazard |

I'm going to assume Lilo is still wanting to wait for the aft plank and move along.
ROUND 4
4 more boarders swing on board the Lady Iona leaving 6 plus the captain left for Rorse and Vero to deal with. Three arrows fly at Rorse and Vero, one hitting each of them. Rorse takes a minor graze for 2 points, and Vero takes a more serious hit for 4, unless Rorse can negate it.
The pirates manage to land the aft boarding plank, narrowly missing Lilo. One of the boarders steps up onto it, but doesn't have time to cross this round.
The Lady Iona's archers let loose another volley, this time catching one of the remaining pirates for some minimal-appearing damage.
Niesen makes a dash for the boarding plank and across. Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 He ends up behind Rorse (so still on the plank itself).
Eriniyes shouted her warning, and then takes aim at a nearby pirate, missing miserably, her bolt sailing off and into the ocean. The pirate captain shoots an arrow at Rorse, barely misses, then attempts to duck behind cover.
Rorse, make a Perception check please.
Titus to act...
Sorry about the out-of-date map. Temporarily don't have access to it, will get it fixed sometime tomorrow afternoon. Rorse is on board the enemy ship just off the end of the plank, surrounded by three pirates. Niesen is just behind him on the plank itself.

Nazard |

Okay, got the map redone earlier than I thought. Round 4 Map...Titus to act
Please try to indicate the round number for your actions at the beginning of each post, and please don't worry about posting order, just get those actions in. Kind of like 2e that way. We'll sort it all out in the end.

Nazard |

Hobart shakes his head at the crazy halfling, grabs his spear and makes his way across joining the counter boarding party. He will use the spear to help balance if that helps.1d20+1
Well, a moment earlier and that roll would have had Hobart taking a swim, but with the second plank in place, they don't bounce and sway nearly as much reducing it to a DC 5 check to cross.
The end of the foreward boarding plank is getting a little crowded, so I'll point out that there is also a rope from the other ship snagged on a corpse on the Lady Iona's railing.

Nazard |

For simplicity's sake, I'll assume that Lilo was delaying until after the plank fell. Also, it doesn't matter because the man made his save, but don't forget your +1 from sorcerer bloodline on fire spells.
Lilo makes his way across the aft plank and coats a boarder with fire, who barely manages to duck under the sheet of flames. The back of his cloak is singed and smoking and he stands up again with a very angry look in his eyes.
Hobart makes his way mostly across the forward plank, swaying a bit precariously, but keeping his balance.
Rorse fires an arrow at one of the boarders, nicking him on the temple and deflecting over the opposite railing. The pirates are starting to close in around him, making it very dangerous for Rorse to try any further archery.
Rommin moves up behind Lilo, his greatsword at the ready.
ROUND 5
The boarder in front of Lilo takes a mighty swing at the little halfling in front of him, 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13; 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 A nasty gash across Lilo's middle.
The pirate who landed near the aft deck, tries to dash up the ladder past Sir Kheiron. He raises his sabre at Lord Brycen, hollering a war cry at him which is cut off short as the centaur decapitates the foolish boarder with a single swipe. Other boarders on board the Lady Iona attack soldiers. Your archers loose another volley, taking out a pirate up on the enemy aft deck.

Niesen Kurch |

Niesen lets fly with daggers from both hands, one at each remaining pirate in front of Rorse.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20; damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8; damage1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
The dagger from his left hand catches one of the pirates square in the chest and he drops to the floor, clutching at the intruding weapon. The other dagger misses wide and slides across the deck, coming to rest against the forward ladder.

Nazard |

Eriniyes' bolt is easily deflected by the man's studded leather.
Rorse Perception check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
At the last second, Rorse notices the pirate captain step out from behind a stack of crates and gets his defenses up just in time to avoid serious damage from the arrow he just fired. Rorse takes 2 points of damage.
Tits to act...

Nazard |

How far am I from the ship? Is a jump fairly reasonable, or is their enough room to bullrush one of the pirates?
Rorse is technically on the ship, Niesen right behind him on the plank, and then Hobart, so he'd have to clear just over 10 feet to make it to the deck (all bow to Pythagoras).

Nazard |

Titus, Rommin and Lilo are already engaging that pirate, but there are plenty that just boarded the Lady Iona for Titus to miss with that kick. I'll assume he targets one of those instead.
Hobart, on the other hand, nimbly navigates the plank and makes a massive leap over a long drop to the icy water below, landing on the enemy deck with a loud thump. His thrust at a pirate however goes astray as he regains his balance.
Just as Rorse was about to swing, he realizes he is about to be shot with an arrow and flubs his swing. Vero however strikes true, though his bite is too measly to take out the pirate.
Rommin steps up to cover Lilo's retreat, but the jostling on the narrow boarding plank throws off his swing.
ROUND 6...
The pirate in front of Rommin turns his attentions momentarily to one of the rope hinges holding the aft boarding plank to the enemy ship, and he takes a mighty swing at the rope. Rolling for Rommin, just because Lilo usually posts before Rommin and his action will depend on Rommin succeeding or not. Rommin takes an attack of opportunity on the man. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23; damage 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 5) + 4 = 14 The pirate goes down in a gurgle of blood before his falling sabre can send Rommin and Lilo into the ocean waters below.
The other pirates engage the attackers at the forward plank.
Attack on Rorse: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7; damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Attack on Hobart: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
The Lady Iona's archers send another volley across. Three of them find their mark in the pirate captain, but all three arrows slow before hitting the exposed man and don't even manage to draw blood.

Round 6:
Is anyone between Rommin and the plank? It's time to get personal with the pirate captain. If he can, Rommin will get on the plank and run across. If that takes a move action, he'll try to attack at the end.
