Be careful what you wish for, Rhona...
The party stops to have lunch. There's no real shade to be had in the grassland, but Drexel, with his superb improvisational skills, (I mean, look at what he did with that parasol...:) ) manages to whip up some makeshift shelter so that the party doesn't have to go through the whole routine of setting up and taking down camp just for a rest break. After about an hour, Sal wakes up and starts panting heavily.

The next hour passes uneventfully.

Chantif |

Chantif attempts to aid the dog's recover again, as before, while we rest in the heat of the day.
If any of those lethal wounds were acquired in the last 24 hours I believe we can try to Treat Deadly Wounds again. If I get enough Aid Another boosts (should be 2 successes) to auto-succeed with a Take 10, I'll do that, otherwise I'll have to chance it with a roll. My base, using the Healing Kit, is +7.
Don't know why I hadn't thought of this earlier.

sarpadian |
I had to go back and look, but you did Treat Deadly Wounds before you slept, so technically you can do it again (there's a 1/day limit). Also, you're getting in just under the statute of limitations--it's been 22 hours. So, go you :) Since everybody eventually agreed to help last time, I'll go ahead and roll the aid another checks.
Exactly 0 successes on aid another--the highest total was 6 :(
Heal (Chantif): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Who needs aid another :)?

With Sal perked up, The party continues their way down to Alenk Town.

The party continues their trek as Drexel provides entertainment.

As the heat of the day dies down, the party pauses momentarily to assess the situation.
Basically, here's the deal. You have two hours left before you need to start making camp, but you've already made eight hours of progress today. Continuing for one more hour means making a Con check (DC 10); keeping on for both hours would mean a second check at DC 12. Failure results in d6 nonlethal damage. Sal won't have to make checks, since he's on horseback. If it affects your decision, Det would know (given his rank in Knowledge (geography) and the map y'all have) that pressing on for both hours this evening would put you in position to make Alenk Town with a slightly long day tomorrow. Alternatively, you're already in range if Rhona wears light armor tomorrow.

sarpadian |
Yeah, basically, you're 25 mi. out. Walking speed for a human is 2 mph in medium armor and 3 mph in light armor. You also get one free hour of hustling (essentially the overland equivalent of a double move) each day, which I've been including with your first hour of travel. So, if everyone is in light or no armor, a full day tomorrow would carry you 27 mi. A full day with someone in medium armor would cover 18 mi., so that would leave another 7 mi. to make up, which would mean 2 forced march checks tonight and 2 more tomorrow.

While walking down the road he is silently counting down the hours until he reaches Alenk Town. Then it suddenly dawns on him that he hasn't even shared this information with his group. He says out loud, trying to sound casual, "So, if we make good time tomorrow, we can stop for the night and still hit Alenk Town by tomorrow. "

Det was about to patrol with them, but he really just didn't feel like it. So he plops down in the shade and says to Rhona and Chantif, "You guys go ahead, I'm just gonna...guard the campsite." But as he is saying this he is already lying on his back.

Rhona Patenaude |

Upon returning to the group, Rhona reports: "Heads up, people. We found tracks. Looks like some gnolls and their little flea-bitten friends were through here within the last day or so. We might want to move a little further today if we can, just to put as much space between them and us as possible. What do you guys think?"

Det, very obviously, sighs before he says,"Maybe we should just stay here until they get further away from us." But as he is saying this, he is already grabbing his bag. "If only that would work," he sighs to himself.

Chantif |

thanks. I was about to ask that.
It may seem wiser to keep moving, sure. But the tracks looked to be headed to Alenk town, same as us. Chantif leans on his spear as he looks around at each of his companions. We only found one set of tracks. We don't know where the rest of them are lurking. He shifted his weight. We could wear ourselves out by going a little further, in course. But unless you mean for us to press on to Alenk town without a stop, I don't smoke the gain of moving from this camp spot to another. And even supposing you do intend to press on all the way tonight, I don't fancy the prospect of an ambush by Gnolls and some deadly mage in the dark where they can sniff me out and I'm bushed from hours of walking. No sir. I say we make camp at the nearest defensible spot and take the remaining daylight to make whatever ramshackle warnings and defenses we can come up with. Speech finished, Chantif looks each of his companions in the eye again, spits on the ground, unslings his backpack, and takes a big drink from his waterskin.

Before Chantif had finished speaking, Det was laying down on his stomach. He manages to mumble "Rhona how dare you suggest we move." After a moment his eyes snap awake. He sits straight up as a cold sweat hits him, "Oh God, they're going to kill everyone aren't they?

Rhona Patenaude |

In response to Chantif, Rhona shrugs. "Well, that's a fair argument. Guess we'll stick it out where we are."
Rhona's eyes widen at Det's outburst. "What, the Gnolls? It is possible that if they're headed toward Alenk Town, they could be plotting an attack... but don't panic. The tracks only indicated a pair of gnolls and a hyena. I doubt highly that they'd be too big a threat to Alenk Town on their own- town guards should be more than capable of turning them away."
She hopes she's right.

Drexel Morrow |

I assist with breaking down camp and prepare for another day of marching. This time I will cast my previous days spell slot on Chantif and today's on Det since he hasn't had a day without heat yet, and Rhona is planning to wear light armor.
To Chantif "I figure you can use a day off from heat again, care to pass the cloak back so I don't die today?" I glance at Sal after saying this.

sarpadian |
Yes, any armor does impose a penalty. When I was talking about light armor it was for speed concerns. Which, by the way, does Det have light armor available? Endure Elements means he can wear the armor, but in order to make Alenk Town today, you need to be traveling at the speed of someone in light armor. Det's scale mail will slow you down.
EDIT:There are two separate issues here that are being conflated. The first issue is having to make Fort saves against the weather, and the second issue is speed. Endure Elements removes the need for Fort saves, but it doesn't change the speed at which a person travels (2 mph in medium armor and 3 mph in light armor/no armor). In order to make Alenk Town today, you either have to all be in light/no armor (so that you're traveling at 3 mph) or have a really long day (we're talking three forced march checks). The Fortitude saves for weather are a separate concern.

Chantif |

He could wear Rhona's Studded Leather. Honestly, I'd be okay with Chantif going armorless another day and letting Rhona have Endure Elements. Her character is built around having a good AC, while mine has a bow and a reach weapon and can try to stay out of the melee if necessary.
