Allence's Last Hope

Game Master sarpadian

Can the heroes retrieve the magic artifact that will break the half-century stalemate between the Kingdom of Kassht and the Taloth orcs?

Intiative:

Enemy
Drexel

If he already had nonlethal damage, doesn't that knock him out? Assuming that Drexel dropped...

Chantif sees Drexel drop. The best laid plans.... He begins repeatedly blowing his whistle while he stows his shortbow and then runs towards Drexel, pulling out his longspear as he goes.

Male Human HP (5/6) | AC/Touch/Flat 13/13/10 | Fort/Ref/Will +0/+3/+3 | Init +3 | Percep +2

I was just going to point that out myself. Had 3 non-lethal, only 6 HP total, so I drop to the dirt with an arrow sticking out of me.

Given the amount of time it would have taken everyone to get in position, which I had forgotten to take into account, Drexel should be at only 2 nonlethal damage and 1 HP. He is unconscious, but not dying. Similarly, by now Rhona has healed the last point of nonlethal damage.

Drexel falls to the ground, clearly unconscious. Chantif rushes towards his fallen comrade as he blows his whistle.

Rolls:
C's Perform: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12

Chantif, since you're trying to stow your shortbow and pull out your longspear, you're making a double move instead of a run action. You should be able to move yourself on the map. Rhona, Det, and Umash are up. Please post your character's reaction to the whistle; that way, I'll know if you're purposefully not reacting or just haven't had a chance to post yet.

The Exchange

Det jumps up at the sound of the whistle and immediately starts running toward the hut, but trying to get back to the road as well.

Det figures something is up when the whistle blows, so he starts running toward the last place he saw danger: the hut.

-INACTIVE-

Rhona bites her lip and rises from her sniping position, hoping the blasted wizard hadn't gotten himself killed, then begins running as quickly as she can- given her heavily armored state- toward the sound of the whistle being blown repeatedly.

I'll keep the shortbow out for the moment. I'm more worried about closing the distance than having the right weapon out.

Rhona, if you were saying that you kept the shortbow out in response to me saying that Chantif couldn't use the run action, you're in the same boat for a different reason. Running is a full-round action. Since you have to stand up, which takes a move action, you can't take a full-round action this round. (Chantif was already standing, but he was trying to stow/draw weapons, so he had a different move equivalent action hindering him.) If you want, you might as well stow the bow as part of the move action to stand up and pull out your longsword as part of the move action to the road; it won't slow you down any more than standing up will. You want to be on the road at the beginning of your next turn because another requirement of the run action is that you move in a straight line. You can move yourself on the map, and let me know what you decide on the weapon situation

-INACTIVE-

In that case, sure. I guess I'll just move my standard 20 feet and have my sword out. I'll move myself on the map.

I've been waiting for Umash to post, but I'm going to move things along now.
Umash dashes up to the road and heads towards the hovel. Chantif can see two human-sized figures (he can only assume they're the gnolls, but the distance makes things kind of fuzzy) move out onto the road.

DM Rolls:
E's Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17 G1 readied: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5G1 readied damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8G2 readied: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6G2 readied damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

Edit: The party is up.

- INACTIVE (GM abandoned game) -

Chantif runs 120 feet down the road.

As Chantif is moving, two arrows streak towards him, but neither lands anywhere close to him.

female Half-Orc Investigator 1 HP (10/10) | AC/Touch/Flat 15/11/14 | Fort/Ref/Will +4/+3/+0 | Init +1 | Percep +7

Sorry for the absence

Umash keeps sprinting to close in on the gnolls.

-INACTIVE-

I'm having some issues posting. Should be good by tomorrow if there's any justice in the world. Please move me toward the action at full speed!

Time to move things along. I've moved Det towards the action at a run.

Chantif hears a high-pitched voice, coming from the grass northeast of him, as a ball of flame arcs towards him. It hits the road in front of him. The gnolls wait with their bows drawn, daring Chantif to try and rescue his downed companion.

Rolls:
E's attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 E's damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

DM Notes:
3 minutes left on spell;

Party up.

- INACTIVE (GM abandoned game) -

Chantif glances in the direction of the voice, but keeps running for Drexel.

Going after the caster seems like the better move strategically, but Chantif is *very* concerned about Drexel dying on his watch.

For those of you who haven't seen the map yet, Chantif is now standing beside Drexel's body. There is just over 120 feet between Drexel's body and the Gnolls.

Someone should go after the caster.

female Half-Orc Investigator 1 HP (10/10) | AC/Touch/Flat 15/11/14 | Fort/Ref/Will +4/+3/+0 | Init +1 | Percep +7

Umash keeps sprinting up the road. As she approaches Drexel and Chantif (Is it?) they can hear her swear to herself. "Well that worked like a charm. Let's never fan out that far again."

The gnolls each unleash an arrow at Chantif when he reaches Drexel. One of them (the one whom Drexel shot actually) is able to lead Chantif by precisely the right amount, and his arrow slams into Chantif's arm, piercing his armor. The other gnoll misses wildly.

Chantif, based on where I remember you being last round, you must have taken a run action. If you did, then you take 6 damage.

Rolls:
G1 attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13G1 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6 G2 attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4G2 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2

- INACTIVE (GM abandoned game) -

Ouch. Forgot about losing Dex to AC while running. Down to 6 AC.

-INACTIVE-

Yikes. Don't die, Chantif! I'm guessing I saw the fireball, right?

Rhona continues moving toward the gnolls, drawing her shield and banging on it with her sword.

If getting my shield up costs an action, I'm just doing a regular move, I guess. I'm going to work under the assumption that I can't get my shield ready and run at the same time. Otherwise keep me movin' until I'm as close to Drexel as I can get. Still having computer troubles, sorreh. My computer isn't really up to loading Roll20 until I get it fixed.

I think readying a shield should be like drawing a weapon: you can do it as part of another move action as long as you have BAB +1. I've moved you 40 ft. closer. Det is up.

A man, a big strong man Twin Has No Life-1

Det runs closer to the action.

Det gets hit in the face with another ball of flame. Each of the gnolls unleash another arrow. This time, it is the unwounded gnoll whose arrow strikes Chantif.

Det takes 8 damage, and Chantif takes 5 damage. Party up.

Rolls:
E's ranged touch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 fire damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8G1 attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14G1 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5G2 attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7crit confirm: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17crit damage: 2d8 ⇒ (7, 5) = 12

Chantif picks Drexel up and moves into the brush to the north, then squats down and moves as far in to the brush as he can, zig-zagging as he goes.

Hoping the brush will hide Chantif and Drexel from the Gnolls.

FYI, guys, Chantif has 1 HP left right now.

female Half-Orc Investigator 1 HP (10/10) | AC/Touch/Flat 15/11/14 | Fort/Ref/Will +4/+3/+0 | Init +1 | Percep +7

"Chatif!" Umash shouts as she looses the last healing potion from her belt and tosses it to him.
Should I roll anything for this? I only need to throw a potion to his square after all.

Potions are in glass bottles. At the very least, he would need to roll something to catch it because it will break if it hits the ground. I think I'll treat it as a bomb attack at 55' (which I think was the range before Chantif moved) and let him carry the potion in his teeth or something while he carries Drexel :) The attack roll is against AC 5 (as if you were targeting a grid intersection), and the DC on the Dex check is 10.

the throw: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (11) - 2 = 9
the catch: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

- INACTIVE (GM abandoned game) -

Thanks! Now Chantif has to make an IC decision to take it himself or give it to Drexel. He'll probably decide to take it himself since he feels more confident that Drexel will end up alive if he does so.

By the way, I'm assuming that since you reminded us ooc that Drexel is stabilized that Chantif could tell at a glance, and doesn't need to make a heal check to confirm IC.

As for making a Heal check, I hadn't really thought about it when I said something, but we'll go with him being able to tell at a glance. Det's up.

Ouch, I totally did not see him on the map last time I moved. Did he just pop up or am I going crazy?

Det curses himself for not seeing the spell caster in time as he backpedals as fast as he can. He pulls out potion and drinks it, hoping that it is enough to keep him from being burnt to a crisp.

We technically don't know where he is. That token represents where we see the fireballs coming from. Press the attack!

Also, I keep forgetting that stupid slash.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Another ball of flame erupts from somewhere north of the road and travels towards Det. It falls short, and the grass in front of Det begins to smolder. The gnolls both unleash arrows blindly towards where they think Chantif and Drexel are. Neither of them get particularly close.

DM Rolls:
ranged touch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 fire damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9direction: 1d8 ⇒ 1G1 attack: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (6) - 5 = 1 G1 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4 G2 attack: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (15) - 5 = 10 G2 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6

The square in front of Det is on fire. The smoke gives partial concealment (20% miss chance). Party up.

-INACTIVE-

I'm gonna keep running toward those gnolls, looking as angry and intimidating as possible in hopes of drawing their fire away from Drexel and Chantif. So sloooow... :< Hopefully Det can handle the spellcaster!

Run action should get me 80 feet closer to the gnolls.

- INACTIVE (GM abandoned game) -

Chantif gets onto his stomach and drinks the potion. Sorry mate, but I can't keep you alive if I'm out myself. Then he pulls Drexel onto his back and begans to crawl in the direction the flames have been coming from, slowly and quietly, with his longspear in his right hand.

CLW Potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

I moved Chantif 10 feet. Please move him any additional distance he can move, and move Drexel with him. Once Chantif thinks he has the drop on the caster he will set Drexel down and charge with his Longspear.

10 ft. is how far you can move if you're trying to be quiet (speed reduced to 20 ft. for carrying Drexel and then halved for moving stealthily. Det and Umash are up.

Sorry I wasn't able to look at the map yesterday.

Choking on the thick black cloud of smoke that formed when the fireball hit the ground, Det pulls out a javelin and slings it at the spellcaster as hard as he can.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 2 = 10 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

No problem.

Det hurls a javelin through the smoke cloud, but he doesn't hear any indication that it hit anything.

Another ball of flame leaps towards Det. It lands behind him and to his left, creating another plume of smoke. The gnolls move to the other side of the road in order to have a better angle for shooting at Umash, whom they just saw run off the road. They each cut loose with an arrow. One of them flies off into the distance, but the one fired by the wounded gnoll strikes Umash in the chest.

Umash takes 8 damage. Party up.

- INACTIVE (GM abandoned game) -

Chantif keeps crawling through the grass as quietly as he can.

Moved Chantif another 10 feet. That's a full-round action? Drexel is still on Chantif's back.

Nope. It's a move action. Last round, you drank a potion (standard) and moved 10' (move). This round, you've moved 10', so you have a standard action left (as per normal, you can replace that with another move action).

- INACTIVE (GM abandoned game) -

Alright, definitely moving another 10 feet then.

female Half-Orc Investigator 1 HP (10/10) | AC/Touch/Flat 15/11/14 | Fort/Ref/Will +4/+3/+0 | Init +1 | Percep +7

Umash slams against the wall, pulling out a vial, "Come on, you mangy inbred hyenas! So afraid of a little girl? Get over here!" she shouts at the gnolls in orcish and downs the alchemical extract.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

She growls a few orcish curses under her breath as she realizes that the extract could barely unfold its potency.

Javelin: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Damage: 1d6 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 - 2 = 6

Det knows that he's getting lucky with these fireballs, so he takes out a javelin and throws it as hard as he can and hopes that he lands a hit.

The gnolls each arc an arrow over the stone fence that encircles the field between Umash and the hovel. Neither of them strike her.

DM Rolls:

I moved Rhona again, but the rest of the party is up. Chantif, I was just looking at the equipment spreadsheet, and I can't tell if you've been marking off the potions y'all have used. If not, please do so. I also noticed that you have a scroll of CLW, if you feel the need to try your luck again.
