Everyone's looking pretty sorted so far... are we nearly all done?
Sorry, been busy at work. (Where I do NOT have access to a copy of the OA!)
I'm probably going to replace the Dodge feat with the Ki Healing feat. (What good does it do to have a Ki pool if I can't use it?!?)I still need to finalize gear & equipment/money, (Including all those neat Ninja toys. TOOLS! I meant tools!)
and actually type my description/background.
[AND make plans for the future! ;)]
Other than that, i'm pretty much ready to go.
So, just to be clear, How much "Kung" can I put in my "Kung Fu"?
I don't expect to be able to FLY, but please tell me that I can 'show off' at least a bit with the Hop-n-Chop?
Pleeeease?
;)
(I promise to make Mamoru less annoying than Slidell. )
(OK I promise to TRY to make him less annoying!)
;P

The tone I'm aiming for is more Kurosawa than Jackie Chan*, but as long as it's not too over the top or silly it should be fine. Humour is ok in moderation (after all, he wouldn't be much good as a ninja if he were a buffoon! haha).
Do you mean Karmic Healing btw?
*Although Kurosawa never had guys shooting energy beams from their eyes, so...

I agree, (At least I would if I knew who Kurosawa was!)
But I'm still considering his personality, I don't wanna go QUITE to 'The Three Musketeers' (latest movies) level of silliness. But that is MY personality, (If you haven't noticed) I LIKE to have 'fun' with a capital 'F'.
(Actually, Hmmm,...I think Jackie Chan might be the compromise of personality I'm looking for! Takes himself seriously, but for some reason no one else ever does. UNTIL he kicks thier @$$!)
And If I have to dodge EYE-BEAMS at 1st lvl, I think that silliness is the LEAST of my worries! (Or yours!)
;P
Edit: Yes, I think Karmic Healing is the one I mean. I SHOULD be able to catch up some tonite.
Thanks,

First post in the game thread is up: http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/community/gaming/playByPost/adventures InKaraTur Here
It's an intro for Jiro and Shinko. Other characters' intros are to follow.
| The Celestial Dragon |
All character intros are now up.
I forgot to add Bakemono (which is the OA version of goblin) to the language list. If you wish your PC to have it, you can swap one of your current languages out for it.
Money:
Please convert your money to the following:
1cp = 1 fen
5cp = 1 yuan
both the fen and the yuan are threaded through strings (each coin is pierced through the centre), called cash strings, normally worn in a sleeve, often in groups of 50 or 100 to make counting easier.
1sp = 10 fen or 2 yuan
5sp = 1 tael (a silver coin, again can be threaded) or 1 ch'ao (a paper note - these can also be printed in 1, 10, and 100 denominations)
1gp = 100 fen, or 20 yuan, or 2 tael or 2 ch'ao
5gp = 1 ch'ien (a small silver bar or ingot - rarely used in everyday transactions as they can be awkward to carry)
Also barter units (such as cloth, horses, livestock and rice) are common in some areas and cultures. The most important for many people in Kozakura is the koku, a measure of rice of about 5 to 6 bushels (enough for a person to subsist on for a year, theoretically). Samurai are often rewarded by their lords in koku. A koku is worth 5 chi'ien.... which is 25gp ;)

OK, I THINK I'm finally (almost) done!
(YAY me!)
Question- I picked the languages I did because I figured that I would be trained on how to blend in if I were sent to other 'Kingdoms'. Are we likely to travel or meet people from Tu' Lung or Kao te Shou? If not, I would have picked languages that would speak to my interest of (future) supernatural studies. (Spirit Speech, Dragon-Speech, etc.)
Obviously, all of the 'specialized' weapons & tools are either hidden in my backpack, or hidden on my person.
Onward! Honorable adventure awaits!!!

Rags - you might well meet someone from Shou Lung or Tu Lung at some point. Feel free to choose whatever you like, you can learn more languages later of course. Love the background - just tto mention that your master wouldn't have been the daimyo, he would be what's called a jito ( a head of an estate) - the Daimyo is the ruler of the whole province - Yorinaga's dad was an estate manager, which is good but not as mega as daimyo.
Dragonmann - you need to pick your languages too.

Oooh, good point...
are there elemental languages in OA, or something else equivalent?
| The Celestial Dragon |
The closest equivalent would be the Spirit Tongue or the language of the Court of the Sea King (spoken by most aquatic creatures).
The planes are arranged slightly differently in OA than normal; the Astral plane is replaced by the Spirit World, which is like the Material Plane but bigger, brighter, more wild with very little evidence of human buildings. There are no outer planes as such. All gods/spirits/kami live in the spirit world or demiplanes attached to it or the in some rare cases the material plane, and can enter the material world. The Ethereal Plane exists (also known as the relam of ghosts) and exists between the material world and the spirit world; ghosts can manifest into either - but are effectively trapped between them. There are no inner planes. All elementals come from the spirit world.

Cool, thanks for the info.
I like the orient and its culture, (what little I know about it outside of martial arts), so please feel free to throw out all the tidbits like that you feel like!I'm ashamed to say that most of my knowledge comes from movies like 'Shogun' and 'The Last Samurai'. Which were pretty good movies, but hardly detailed, accurate sources of information!

Hey guys, just checking in.
All of the PbP that I read seem to be suffering from post-turkey/pre-holiday re-startup syndrome. So I don't think it's just us. But I'm checking to see if everything/everybody is alright?
Are we still a go and just waiting for everybody to get back? Or is there a problem and we're waiting?
Sorry, in a post this sounds pushy. Not trying to be. Just wondering what's going on. It's the NOT knowing and waiting that's killing me!
Hope all is well. see you all soon?

To Mamoru and Oochai: I'd like to suggest a long distance attack strategy vs. bandits, utilizing the houses of course for cover. Any other suggestions?
I was going to post a suggestion by Mamoru (to jump start us again) that suggested petty much the same thing.
Lone, brave Samuri vs. several armed men on horses makes great movie.Also makes for Samari-Ka-Bob.

Yo! Shout out to the Kara-Tur playaz!
Basically from tomorrow midnight GMT I shall be without ready internet access so what has been quite a choppy game will grind to a halt.
When I get back on, I'll obviously try to reinvigorate the game but we'll see how it goes.

People need to know, if they wanna bail on a P.C. in a pbp game, to go ahead and do that, because there's ample replacements. It's dungeonmasters that are at a premium. It's a dungeonmaster's market, dude. ;)
I don't know the specifics, so I'm not dogging on anybody specifically. Just saying...

Sorry to hear about your campaign troubles, Fabes. I was digging it when it was going. Thought you had a cool 7 samurai vibe starting with the raiders riding into town.
My campaign is running into self-inflicted trouble. One lesson learned for me is start the group together. This idea of a couple story threads drawing together is leading to some players at the end of day 1 while others are in early afternoon. So some have to wait. Fortuantely my players are patient, and we agreed ahead of time that when CoCT is published we'll slide into that.
Have you heard from Flamifur at all?
