Tezuzu determines that the something magical seems to be making the light brighter, but the light itself is not magical.
Magical darkness will lower the brightness in the immediate area depending on where it is cast. Keep in mind that the target of the spell needs to be visible. Casting it on an object would let the party carry it with them.

"And I have to say, until this moment, I had never really given much thought to whether elks fart or not. You always find a way to broaden my horizons, Fin." She gives a jaunty salute.
Fin gives a mock bow and a tip of his hood to Quasit. ”Glad to be of service, m’Lady. I found out the hard way...as a young Elf, I practiced my stealth by sneaking up on animals from behind...I got very good at it it...so good that I had to be a smart-ass and try to scare the beast I’d snuck up on. Most would just run off...never knew an elk would react that way when frightened...and, having snuck up on its backside...well, it wasn’t pleasant...let’s just say I received a full frontal and leave it at that...”

"I had a similar experience with a grocer in Cassomir." answers Quasit. "Made me so mad I hit him in the head with a chamberpot. Long story." And she leaves it at that.

Quasit silently beckons to the others to come along and tiptoes toward the bright lights of the next room to have a look around.

Sakitu doesn't know what to think at Selena's comment about the clothes. "No way. There's no way I'm going to wear those things." she says quietly to Selena and then shivers.
She turns and follows the group to the door with the light behind it. Before they open it she taps Quasit on the shoulder. "Do you hear that? I mean, not hear that? The banging stopped. I wonder if those slime monsters got through the door." She looks back in the direction of the tunnel.

Before they open it she taps Quasit on the shoulder. "Do you hear that? I mean, not hear that? The banging stopped. I wonder if those slime monsters got through the door." She looks back in the direction of the tunnel.
Quasit stops and listens. She frowns.
"Slimes don't give up... so either something else got its attention, or some sneaky magical invisible maiden went and opened that door."
"Can't be helped. We'll shut this door behind us. Maybe Mr Ooze will slither off down one of the other tunnels."
GM, can we shut this maiden door behind us?

Tezuzu Curseclaw |

Tezuzu wretches and stifles a slight gag in his beak before curtly addressing Findurel "It is rare that I value ignorance and I am warmed by your candor, but I would have preferred to remain grossly uniformed of that particular story of yours. Even spared the details I find myself cursing my own imagination." his feathers ruffle in disgust.

Fin chuckles loudly, and then says with a wink, "Ah, my friend, I just wanted you to know that I'm an authority on elf fart lore, if you seek any knowledge in that area...I'm surprised at your reaction though, my friend. I find it quite enlightening that a head collector would find a story about elk farts disgusting..."
Turning serious, "Tez, what can you tell about the light? Do you think it safe to go that way?"
Fin looks at it doubtfully...but when he sees Q sneak down the passage, he asks no questions, he draws his bow and does likewise, following her...he keeps an alert to danger, and looks for any tracks to see if perhaps the evil centaur/frost giant party came this way...

"You think that Caigrel opened the door? Well, I hope those slime things eat her! She'd deserve it." Sakitu scurries through the door, seeming to ignore the danger that the light implies and more focused on the slimes she is imaging are slithering down the tunnel at that very moment. "Hurry! Let's close this door."

Bulvi |

"Not too quickly, we don't want a large bang to attract their attention either." Bulvi paused at the door, ready to close it once everyone was through.

![]() |

Let's just agree that we all went through the door and closed it behind us
Once up to the Bright Light Room, Quasit begins to edge her way in along the left-hand (south) wall. She shields her eyes with one hand and squints hard, feeling her way along with the other hand.

GM Lareg |

Quasit can tell from the feel of the wall against her back that although she cannot see more than her hand blocking the bright light, that the tunnel continues at least as far as she can reach.

Maka Na'Shota |

"Fin chuckles loudly, and then says with a wink, "Ah, my friend, I just wanted you to know that I'm an authority on elf fart lore, if you seek any knowledge in that area
"Is it true that elf wizards fart color!?" Maka asked in a fit of laughter while trying to shield her eyes from the light.

Tezuzu Curseclaw |

So the light in the next room is bright enough to obscure our vision?
Tezuzu will mention to Selena "Let us see if my darkness incantation handles the light before we waste your efforts" He will then whisper a magic phrase and touch his claw to his bone amulet the light distorting around him and diminishing. (Casting Darkness, 20ft Radius centered on Tezuzu as they enter the room)

GM Lareg |

Tezuzu's darkness does make it much easier to see. Those who have low light vision can easily see around Tezuzu and even normal vision can see easily at the edge of the darkness.
Yes, the light is bright enough to be blinding. I've updated map. If you all can kindly update token positioning to reflect movement. Map wise the large area on the left (white and transparent areas) represents the bright blinding light. The dotted circle (gray) is Tezuzu's darkness. The party can see that area only.

![]() |

"That's way better Tez, thank you. Come on everyone, huddle around Tezzie and lets move forward together."

![]() |

Sakitu follows right behind Quasit. "Don't worry! I'm staying close. "

![]() |

Questioning his sanity for taking this path, Fin mutters, "We could always turn back," as he shakes his head and follows his friends into the light...

GM Lareg |

The party gathers in the darkness, moving forward together they soon notice that the tunnel widens after they have gone about twenty feet. It is hard to know for sure, but from the shape of the other cavernous rooms, the group is fairly sure that this widening is likely another open room area.
I have clumped the group together and moved them. Feel free to adjust positioning however you like. I'll work on getting the layered images set so tokens are reachable.

![]() |

Quasit keeps up a quiet soothing patter, coaxing the group along.
"That's it. Everyone just keep moving straight ahead. If it's a spell we can dispel it. If it's an object, we can take it. It's just some light..."

Maka Na'Shota |

"I hope it isn't a trap for something that can see in the light." Maka replied to Quasit as she followed along.

GM Lareg |

The group hears whispers from a trio of directions.

![]() |

"Does anyone else hear those whispers? Should we answer them?" Sakitu hides behind Quasit. It's pointless to do so, but Sakitu peeks over her friends shoulder and tries to look into the light.
Anyone recognize these lyrics?
Turn to the light
Don't be frightened of the shadows it creates
Turn to the light
Turning away would be a terrible mistake
The Great Debate (about 4 minutes in)

![]() |

Fin nods, whispering, "Aye, Saki, I hear 'em...don't trust these whispers though...and I wouldn't answer 'em...we may be walking into an ambush..."

![]() |

"No we definitely should not answer them. Everyone stay together, and keep moving forward." says Quasit. She takes Sakitu's hand in hers.

GM Lareg |

As the group continues to move forward together the edges of Tezuzu's darkness spell reveal the opening edges of what you are even more sure now is a large open area.

Tezuzu Curseclaw |

Tezuzu stops for a moment and concentrates on the whispering trying to determine their purpose. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
He will whisper to the rest of the group. "Stay close..." before moving forward.

Sakitu squeeze Quasit's hand. "Don't worry. I'm sticking close." She pauses abruptly. "Wait. Did you hear that? The whispers stopped suddenly. What does that mean?"

![]() |

"It means someone in here is messing with us." says Quasit.

![]() |

Fin frowns, speaking lightly. "Saki, what do you mean? I don't think the whispers are being spoken by any humanoid creatures...but I still hear them..."

GM Lareg |

Sakitu's voice talking sounds off a bit and they don't seem to hear either Quasit or Findurel.

Maka Na'Shota |

"Stop playing games and just come out and be friends or fight already!" Maka shouted, her frustration at the dungeon clearly building.

After waiting a brief moment, Maka began playing with a ball of fire. Tossing it up in the air and catching it. "Okay, then I guess no one would mind if I just start throwing fire around!?"

![]() |

"Wait. We can't see anything past Tezuzu's shadow spell. There might be anything or anyone out there." says Quasit, trying to convey a sense of conviction that she may not truly feel. "Just keep moving and stay alert. If they're hostile we'll know it soon enough. And if we can find out the source of this Light, maybe we can douse it."

![]() |

Sakitu clears her throat. Something doesn't seem right. She taps on Quasit's shoulder. "Did you..." She stops. She can't hear herself. Did she lose her voice?
She looks at Maka tossing a ball of flame in the air. Her lips are moving but Sakitu can't hear a thing. She panics. "Quasit! I can't hear anything!" She starts speaking louder and louder. "Maka! Fin! Someone help me."

![]() |

"Quasit! I can't hear anything!"
Quasit looks around at Sakitu in surprise.
"What?" she says. "You mean... like, just now?" Then she realizes Sakitu can't answer a question that she can't hear. Her mouth screws up in frustration and she looks around at the room angrily.
"I smell fey..." she fairly snarls. "That whispering is probably them casting spells at us."
She pulls Sakitu into a quick crushing hug to calm her, then steps back and gathers the kitsune's furry cheeks in her hands and looks her in the eye.
"It's OK. We'll fix this." she says slowly, hoping Sakitu gets the gist of what she's saying.

![]() |

Fin nods to Saki and smiles, trying to keep her spirits up. Fearing they're fixing to be ambushed by an unseen foe, trying to keep Saki alert, he points to his eyes and silently mouths at her Eyes open...

"What!? LEAVE HER ALONE!" Maka's initial concern was replaced with anger as the fire monk moved to protect Saki. A snarl on her face as her glowing eyes searched for what was threatening her friend. Unfortunately her preoccupation with Saki saw her fail to notice Selena's attackers.
"I didn't mean attack someone else instead! Maka roared as she stepped forward with flaming fists.

"Poison! They've got poison on their little swords!" she says in a slightly shrill voice. She tests her grip on her weapon and shakes her head. "And it's a bad one..."
