Can't be a coincidence, this mysterious figure and its companion appeared during my watch...I assume this 'Elf' wishes to speak to me...I'll go against my better judgment and speak to them alone...

Fin will lower his bow; he, with Izzy behind him, will warily approach...he'll halt about 15' away from the pair, eyes alert...

He bows and speaks in Elvish; if the mysterious figure doesn't respond, he'll repeat it in Common. "My thanks for your help earlier this evening against the giant. Forgive my lack of gracious words, as I am not skilled in diplomacy...but I'm guessing it's no coincidence that you revealed yourself during my watch, so I'm guessing you wished words with me alone, yes? If not, I can summon the others, who are much adept at speaking than I. Your sword is exquisite...are you of Elvish descent as well?"

Once things start to settle down for the night Sakitu finds Quasit at a time when she's a little bit away from the group. "Hey, did I miss something?" she asks quietly. "Erdija kept referring to rumors and those creatures we saw. Did she say something about rumors earlier? I'm just wondering if there's something that we should start to be worried about."

"Don't worry Bulvi, it's fine. The good part is that we all got through it with no problems. But what are Erdija's rumors that you're talking about?"

Bulvi shrugs at Sakitu. "I'm not sure but she said she couldn't believe the rumours were through. I'll poke her on it later for specifics... and if that giant comes looking for desert we can always give it a belly full of iron. Others might not be able to evade it as easily as us."

------------------------------------------

Bulvi clears his throat later on the follow up on these mysterious rumours. "Erdija, could you be a little more specific on the rumours you mentioned before? Some clarity on the suspicions might help keep the rest of us informed."

Earlier, at Bulvi's inquiry.

Erdija seems hesitant to go into the matter, but does so all the same. There were scouts I knew when I was younger. First training. Some of the centaur would test their skills by traveling south. Beyond where the tribe migrates. Some of them shared stories of an elf they encountered. Most called those stories rumors. I was one of them. Simply the notion that there was an elf on these shores was enough to ignore them. The stories always mentioned music. I can't seem to recall much more as I discounted them. Now though.. She trails off in thought and does not continue.

Later during Findurel's watch.

2nd watch:

The figure nods in understanding as she lowers her hood. It is clear as she does so that she is not only an elf, but a woman of unparalleled beauty. Her face is slim, but not so angular to seem sharp or haughty. The fine points of her ears are easy to see as her sandy brown hair is neatly kept in a bun at the rear of her head. Piercing blue eyes look toward you, she seems to see so much by just looking at you.

Your more cautious nature notices that she still wears the gauntlet upon one of her hands as she lowers her hood. Its craftsmanship is like nothing you have ever seen. The metal seems to somehow mimic the grace and dexterity of her other hand.

She makes a point to return your bow and then gestures toward her winged companion first and then carefully with her bare hand she points to her mouth, making the motions of speech. No sound comes from her mouth, but you hear words in your mind moments later.

"It is fitting that your words would lack grace as I lack the ability to speak. She smiles. There is a weight of sorrow in her smile that mingles with the assurance that their is no pain that could diminish the joy she carries with her. She moves her finger down from her mouth pointing toward one side of her slender neck. Her fine porcelain skin is broken toward her collar bone by a massive scar. You can see that a smaller, nearly invisible scars branch out from this larger one, up her neck to her throat. Her mouth moves, but again there is no sound.

I lost my ability to speak when the vessel I was on crashed upon the southern shores of this land. Only one other survived. The odd gnome whom my family was providing passage for across the waters. Someone found us and the two of them nursed me back from the brink. Since then I have rarely traveled this far north. I had heard rumors of frost giants on the move and came to learn more. It was then that my companion saw you. Another elf. I thought it impossible until I saw you for myself in the forest. The sadness in her eyes mingles at the edge of tears. I have so longed to meet another. She glances toward the camp, smiling again and standing a bit taller. It is as if she is wading through some long standing grief. You are of course welcomed to wake your friends. I had just hoped to hear the words of our kin once more.

She silently awaits your response.

Fin smiles in obvious joy upon seeing another Elf...and he has never seen another to match her beauty. He listens somberly as she describes how she lost her speech...

He nods and continues in Elvish. "It is most welcome to speak with another of my kind as well...it has been several years since I have done so. I left Kyonin quite a while ago; leaving was my decision but I wasn't exactly welcomed there by those higher up...but it would have been too painful to stay even if I was welcome..."

Fin pauses as he reflects. "I'm sorry, where are my manners...my name is Findurêl...but you and your companion may call me Fin, as my friends do, if you wish. May I be so bold as to ask your name as well as your companion? And where you originally hail from?"

He looks back to the campsite before continuing. "I will, of course, introduce you to my friends; but there are at least a couple of 'em that will literally talk your head off, so I hope you don't mind if I belay that for just a couple more minutes as it is indeed nice to talk to another Elf...

"I noticed your sword...it is the most exquisite sword I've ever seen. I know it's Elven-made...but can you tell me of its history? And where did you learn to play music so very well? I must admit, I was both captivated with it as well as wary of it, since I didn't know its source...you are very skilled at staying unseen..."

The 2nd watch:

He smile broadens and her shoulders relax. As she moves her mouth their continues to be no sound. "Well met Findurel. My name is Oparal and I call my companion Aria, though I don't know if that is its true name. A deep sadness comes over her as she continues. I am afraid I do not remember my home. I was young when my family's vessel crashed and the accident left me with gaps in my memory. I awoke able to speak Elvish, knowing the name of our people, my name, those of my parents, and the way of the songsword. Or at least as much as my father had a chance to teach me. Anything more I have pieced together from the bits of the log my father kept that survived the crash. As for the story of my blade, Fischio that we will have to save for another time. I've yet to rest for the night and would very much appreciate a share of what is left of your fire. She nod's in the direction of the camp. Perhaps I have stolen you away for long enough?"

Fin returns the smile with one equally warm. "'Tis a pleasure to meet you Oparal...and you as well Aria. Oh, and excuse me, I forgot to introduce my companion...this little croc here is Izzy; unlike others of his type, he is a pretty friendly one. I await the tale of your blade with much anticipation, whenever you are ready to speak of it..."

Fin approaches the camp, loudly announcing, "Awake my friends, our mystery savior has come to visit..."

As his friends awake, Fin introduces her. "This is Oparal and her companion Aria...and these are my companions: our leader Quasit, Bulvi, Sakitu, Maka, Tezuzu, Selena...and the newest, our guide, Erdija...it appears that several Centaurs have mentioned catching a glimpse of you from time to time...

When Findurel gently nudges Quasit to wake her, she pulls in a deep breath as she rises to consciousness and then quickly pulls herself up and fumbles for her weapon, squinting blearily in the firelight. "More giants?" she croaks as she paws her tangled hair from her eyes.

It takes her a few seconds to orient to the waking world and focus on the new arrival in the camp. She doesn't get up from her bedroll, and in fact pulls her blanket up to the base of her neck. And she doesn't drop her sword. She silently sizes up the newcomer and her companion while Findurel makes introductions. Then she lets out a weary sigh.

"Sorry, my heart is still pumping like a galloping horse. Last night when someone woke me up out of dead sleep, it was because demons were attacking us. And I was having such a nice dream..."

She yawns hard suddenly, quickly losing the fight to suppress it.

"You want something to eat?"

Upon waking up Tezuzu still dressed in his pajamas looks a little suspiciously at the new elf. Rotating his stiff neck he asks with sleep deprived grump seeping into his voice "Interesting trick with enchanting the giant...forgive me if I am weary of strange...enchanters... in the forest, but the obvious question must be asked...what are you doing out here and why have you been following us?"

His eyes narrow a bit more and he replies to her inquiry "You have my permission speak using your drake, but be warned my mind is not a feeble as a giants if you attempt to trick it with your magic it will not work and I shall collect my answers from your dismembered head with my own." his tone is oddly polite and nearly friendly contrasting the overt threat that punctuates his statement as though there is no malice intended in it and is merely a statement of what the grumpy tengu thinks is a fact.

She turns back to Oparal. "I don't mind. Go ahead and use your telepathic speech." She puts her own sword down and crawls out from her blanket to sit cross-legged on the ground. Tezuzu takes the reprimand from Quasit in stride and raises his claws innocently before turning back to "Forgive my prickly nature, I am not accustomed to being tracked through the forest and woken in the night by mysterious enchantress."

Shrugging as he sits down and begins to relax he adds "I am more used to doing the hunting than being the hunted which seems to be my unfortunate fate as of late, perhaps it has effected my mood. I do not mean to get off on the wrong foot, but merely establish clear boundaries..."

Tezuzu glances at Quasit for a moment before chirping snarkily to her "Anyone ever tell you that your head plumage is adorable in how scraggly it is after you wake up, little monkey?"

Yang takes some interest in the two new creatures while stretching and yawning as the rest of the bipeds talk. His eyes focus on the small drake following it's movements with his eyes closely with keen interest his tail swishing back and forth betraying away his natural instinct as a predator.

I am simply thinking of what I was speak if I could speak and Aria is helping. Of course, when you speak I can hear you. She glances back at the tree line before continuing. I do wish I had a chance to properly introduce myself earlier. I am sure you understand that caution is important when encountering strangers. I initially headed north due to the rumors of frost giants being on the move in large numbers. That is, thankfully not a typical occurrence. As we trailed the frost giant's retreating Aria noticed Findurel. She glances toward her fellow elf happily. It hasn't been since I crashed upon these shores that I have seen another elf alive. I simply had to meet him. And of course, I couldn't stand by and let a creature of the forest have him for dinner."

Erdija looks on in amazement. She watches this new elf sit by the fire as if she might vanish at any moment. Beside herself, she speak something in centaur that the magical devise she described to you earlier struggles to put into words everyone understands. What you hear is. Is she really here?

Oparal looks up at the centaur with gentle eyes and nods.

Might I suggest using < and > for telepathy? It is common in other sites and visually clarifies whether we are hearing sound or telepathic communication (some groups even have multiple braxket styles for different stuff like radios, telepathy, message or sending spells, etc).

Selena seems to like the little flying creature, watching it more than the girl, in fact, it might even be easy to think she is ignoring the girl, though she is actually listening.

K Arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
To know about the drake, as Selena looked up dragons and such after the first tower where that lady was looking them up. Or whatever it is, because your description implies it is small like a psuedodragon, but drakes are large enough to ride.

The voice inside her head makes Sakitu blink then she giggles. "That's fun. I mean, the talking in my head. But wait, if you can't talk, then where was that music for the giant coming from?"

Oparal turns her focus to Quasit. The frost giants typically only make trouble in small groups. I am not sure who or what could gather them in such large numbers. I'm also afraid that I rarely travel this far north and have never been beyond the river. She gestures to the nearby waters. I have heard merchants speak of Artrosa. They say there are three large statues. Big statues. I haven't seen them with my own eyes. She turns to Sakitu. Smiling.

A good question. I told Findurel about my sword. She leaves it sheathed at her side, but touches the scabbard with great joy. Much like a whistle or flute my sword has holes in it. When I swing it the force moves air through the holes. That combined with Aria's help and no small help from the craftmanship of my arm.. She raises her arm, much of which is covered by her clothing, and her hand which is visible appears to covered with a finally crafted metal gauntlet.

She moves her cloak so that it isn't covering the shoulder and triceps of the arm she has raised. Purposeful openings in the sleeve and shoulder of her blouse reveal that the entirety of her arm is metal. You suspect that her entire left arm has been replaced with a metallic prosthetic. She stands and in flexing her arm, wide pipes protrude from where her triceps would normally be. She waves her arm a bit and a deep base sound emerges from her arm. You recognize the sound as one you heard in the song you heard in the forest.

..I am able to make music.

Totally open to tagging the telepathic bits. I'll toss up note in discussion so we can settle on a specific tag. I'll work on getting an image for Aria (song drake) and work on the knowledge roll results. These details are from non-AP sources so may have to wait until the weekend.

I suspect that you all weren't planning to head right to Artrosa as the bit of your route Aria and I were able to make out seems to be taking you toward the city of Vurnirn. Do you plan to stop there?" There seems to be a bit of concern in her voice.

Erdija steps forward as if to speak, but then hesitates and looks toward Quasit.

"Ye-e-e-es..." she answers, fully conscious of the sudden wariness in Erdija and Oparal. "We wanted to visit a merchant there and do some trading. Why?"

Oparal nods, having expected as much. "I don't mean to be overly cautious or burden you all, especially Findurel with my experiences. It's just I do my best to avoid the city. I don't think it would be much trouble for most of you. But it's been my experience that extra attention is paid to outsiders. Especially elves."

Fin frowns, pondering a moment before also looking to Erdija. "This is a Centaur city, yes? What would Centaurs have against Elves? In Kyonin, Centaurs were revered by those who had memories of them..."

Erdija cocks her head a bit, a quarter nod it seems. "I would not be surprised. Though Vurnirn isn't a centaur city, it is a place familiar with and to our tribes. Humans of many kinds can be found there with centaur and a smattering of others. But as you've heard several times now the thought of elves where but rumors. It makes sense that any elf's presence would gather attention."

Fin nods. "Well then...I'll make sure to keep my hood up and a low profile. I need to primarily stock up on arrows...and perhaps some rations as I gave mine to the giant. Wouldn't mind a hot bath...but might be hard to keep my Elven features from showing while bathing, so maybe not..."

He looks to Sakitu and Tezuzu. "Saki, if these folk are wary of Elves, I imagine they may feel the same about Kitsune...you may want to switch to your human form when in, or around, the city...

"Tez...not sure if they've seen many Tengu around here either...you might want to be careful as well..."

Fin then turns to Oparal. "If you won't feel comfortable there, we can set up camp in some woods, outside, and out of sight, of the city...I'll go in, only to get what I need, and then head back to camp. You and I can await the others there, if that suits you..."

GM: Just wondering...is this city large enough to carry magical items?

Maps: Travel * Hut and more

Oparal shakes her head. "No need to change what you all had planned. I just wanted to share what I could. Aria and I will stick to the forest near the city. She can help me keep watch from a distance. As I will need to be returning south soon that is the most I have time for." She looks with concern to the south.

I think the city will have some minor items, such as simple potions. You may also be able to find merchants that travel to other areas for trade. More soon. Hopefully not all of the details will have to wait until the weekend.

Fin nods. "Alright then...we'll proceed as planned, but we'll be very cautious...and I will try to keep a low profile...unless you think otherwise, Q. Any way, we had best get some sleep. Who has the next watch?"

Once everyone has settled in, Fin will go to Oparal and ask, in Elvish, "If I may ask, what is going on in the south that has you concerned? How soon will you have to leave us?"

Maps: Travel * Hut and more

Oparal looks sadly to the south after making brief eye contact with Findurel. The words that follow I heard only by Findurel.

An old friend:
"It is rare that I am gone this long. Kromgnite, he's the gnome that survived the crash with me, has been unwell for quite some time. Now of course he always tells me not to worry. But of course I do." There seems to be more, but she doesn't say anything.

Tezuzu listens closely to the conversation he will add "I have little issue traveling with this new...stranger...friendly as she seems. As long as she keeps her enchantments away from playing games with my mind and she does me the kindness of allowing me to read her aura in the morning."

At the mention of Vurnirn he perks up a little more cheerful than he had been in his sullen silence. "I will look forward to sleeping in something other than a tent and on the hard ground." he adds as he stretches his back a slight wince escaping his beak.

He lets out a frustrated sigh as he adjusts some of this feathers nervously with his claws. "I suppose I can transfigure myself into a more appropriate form...although it may prove more difficult without a suitable simulacrum." Kicking the dirt in an odd expressive show of frustration "I really should have thought of a way to bring some of those corpses with me on our travels...a proper focus would have made this so much easier and with the right ingredients, expensive as they are, I could have brewed a tonic to hide everyones Elven and fox characteristics."

He looks curiously at Oparal and stares silently at her for an uncomfortable while as he thinks carefully before flatly asking "Forgive the odd and morbid question, but you would not happen to know of a place we could acquire fresh corpses? Ones that were they living would not draw as much attention at this town?"

Once the conversation is over he will chastise Yang in Tengu for keeping too keen of an eye on the elf's drake and return to his tent. He casts a spell on a lark Tongues and attempts to eavesdrop a bit on Findurel's conversation in elvish before retiring back to his lumpy bedroll.

@Lareg I assume the sending spell I sent to Solveig went through? No need to RP it unless you want to I can improvise her response as Tez will likely share news of what is happening in whitethrone with the party. Since we do not have any corpses readily available if Tez is to disguise himself he would need to rely on the greater version of Assume Appearance would it be reasonable to assume he sketched out some anatomical notes and drawings of some of the preserved bodies he's collected and left at the hut when they stayed there the previous night?

"Grave robbing rarely goes down well with people so not drawing attention... surely there is another way. Perhaps we can use a more mundane kind of disguise?"

With Fin's response to Tez, she finally catches that Tez wants an appearance to copy. "You ever heard of twins? Copy one of us and claim to be a twin."

"Well, we should all remember that we're hunted people, but if there's one person in our little merry band who can avoid being noticed, I'd say Findurel would be him. There may be a risk going into any town right now, but whatever we decide I think we should stay together. In my opinion, we go into Vurnirn, do our business, then leave without spending a night there. No reason to push our luck."

Oparal smiles at Findurel before turning to Tezuzu. "It is the tradition of most who live in these lands to burn their dead. I believe this is in part because the ground is so cold as to prevent ground burial much of the year. The closest I've seen to a corpse would be the frost giants that you all left behind. I trust that isn't what you have in mind."

Though Oparal continues to be a bit surprised at Tezuzu's fear of her magic, she agrees to his aura reading.

Tezuzu. Had been hoping to post a response, but I haven't had a chance to read ahead in the AP again to see if there are any details that just roleplaying a response might skew. I'll toss something up here shortly that is at least topical to your inquiry.

Bulvi sighs at Oparal's clarification. "Selena's point about twins is well reasoned if that would work with your magic... especially since the only corpses will be the recently deceased and much more likely to attract attention with people worried about the dead rising!"

Tezuzu shakes his head before quietly muttering "No, I do not think it will...forgive the strange question there were plenty of corpse peddlers in Whitethrone I am not entirely accustomed to traveling where customs are different."

Bulvi wrote:

Tezuzu looks shocked for a split second "Grave robbing? Oh heavens no, I would only need a fresh corpse for a short while...So more like grave... borrowing? I suppose mundane disguises will have to suffice for Findurel." Turning his head back to Bulvi "Speaking of which for a human I find your form quite stout and aesthetically pleasing. Should you the worse come to you and you perish, I would of course try to find a way to bring you back to life, but in the interim would you hold any objection to me...borrowing your good looks? While you are not using them of course."

Tezuzu looks towards Selena seemingly confused for a moment before he begins to apologetically lecture "Oh? No, the magic I practice is sometimes called 'face-stealing' It can be done if necessary without a body on hand, but the creature must be dead. You see.. a living creature is still using it's identity so drawing it out and capturing it to use a guide for transmutation complicates matters when the soul is still attached. If you would like to know more I have little problem teaching you; you just need to ask. Politely of course."

With a bow Tezuzu will return to his tent to catch up on his sleep that had been interrupted.

"Ugh, can we talk about something besides dead bodies?" says Quasit. "Maybe we should try and impress our new friends with heroic tales of our exploits. Like how you and Saki killed that dragon back in White Castle while I was running around the floor below you? Or how you and Bulvi fought off an entire house full of undead monsters back at that Hunting Lodge in Taldor while I was bleeding out on the floor? Or how you and Maka killed 3 demons just last night before I could even get my pants on? Impress the lady, for heaven's sake!"

She chuckles and leans down onto one elbow. She turns to Sakitu and lets out a mock sigh. "I have to do all the work for him." she complains with a weary shake of the head.

In reply to Tez "Thanks for the offer Tez, but I prefer more flexible spellwork. Being limited to specific existing dead faces is a bit too limited for my tastes. Besides, I just have to die to get a new face."

At Fin, and sidetracking from Quasit's line of thinking, "Does that mean you don't want to be reincarnated if you die? Or you just don't want me to use your head for the spell?" She seems to be asking sincerely. Then with strange enthusiasm "You could come back as a winter wolf and get with Quasit." she smiles at Quasit gleefully, and totally ready to duck out of the way if needed.

Just to name one of many, you forgot to mention you and I taking out Radosek and the ice dragon statue in the Pale Tower while Saki, Bulvi, and Selena were out cold; you liquidated that dragon quite effectively." And then, much more somberly, he followed with "And as for me, you also forgot to mention I shot you..."

Looking to change the subject before everyone turns in, Fin nods to the Centaur. "What time should we reach Vurnirn tomorrow, Erdija?"

Selena looks a bit confused, "What is wrong with changing bodies? It isn't like it changes who you are. I don't see the point in caring about whether you are physically an elf or not. It makes no sense to me. Look at me, I've been human, wolfish, and now halfling, but I'm still me."
