Well, there plenty of easily available magical means to block scent (two first level spells with hour/level durations off the top of my head, both of which could be made into potions), and you are ultra famous adventurers with known capabilities. Just because you didn't smell someone didn't mean there was no one else there.
You're trying to save all the Venture Captains on Hestram's hit list. They are all in the Decemvirate, and all under threat. The reason you're in Corentyn is because that's the last known location of Hestram and you don't know what order he's going after the targets in. So it made sense to try to save Keel first, since that's where Hestram last was.
So yeah, Keel is a VC and Decemvirate member. AKA one of your boss's bosses. So are the others on the list.
You couldn't have moved to where you could see Keel without leaving the invis. sphere and ruining Grom's cover story, so I didn't move you. I'm trying to do my best to describe things, but you still need to view the map to get the most accurate picture of what your character can and can't see.

I protest. I drew a straight line that clipped five foes. It was the light blue line that's gone now. I would not have wasted the spell if I could catch only three. Unfortunately, now everything's moved around. It now looks like I can catch six, so can I have held my action and cast it now?
Again, there's no way I would burn my big area effect spell on only three cultists. I've got lots more options otherwise.

You have to draw a line from a corner of your square down a straight line of squares, not just any straight line.
A line-shaped spell shoots away from you in a line in the direction you designate. It starts from any corner of your square and extends to the limit of its range or until it strikes a barrier that blocks line of effect. A line-shaped spell affects all creatures in squares through which the line passes.
I saw your line, but it was not starting from a corner of your square, and it wasn't down a straight line of squares.
I'm sorry if you feel cheated somehow, but it took me almost two hours of my extremely limited (right now) free time to do that update. I don't have time to double check/retcon every action and still keep the game moving. I took the three cultists because that's the better option than two. Since we're not sitting at a table I don't have the luxury of asking for clarification. It's either interpret, skip the player, or wait to do the update until another time. Since I had already missed several days without an update I was unwilling to put it off. In future if I think an action you stated is invalid I can just skip you instead of trying to interpret in your favor if your prefer.
I will draw what I consider valid thirty foot lines from Cladissa right now on Roll20 to show you what I mean. By my reckoning you could theoretically get either one, four, or two from where you're standing now.

Respectfully, I think you're reading a restriction into the line rules that isn't there. See what I've highlighted:
You have to draw a line from a corner of your square down a straight line of squares, not just any straight line.

All those lines you drew are exactly 45 degree angles, or what you called a "straight line of squares." I submit that the rules allow me to send a line at any angle I choose, allowing me to hit more targets than what a 45° line would.
The main reason I feel upset about this is that hitting three out of ten foes, only doing damage and not dropping any of them is a poor tactical decision. I could hit three with a glitterdust spell and at least hamper their combat effectiveness if they fail the save. A 4:10 or 5:10 ratio is much better, allowing our melee fighters a better chance of dropping multiple foes in a round.
(And it's not really important in this context, but my lightning bolt is a 120-foot line.)

Alright, well after doing more research it appears I am wrong. All the line templates I can find basically offer these options. Still not quite any line, but I guess it doesn't have to be 'straight'.
Either way, these guys have enough HP that it's not going to make a noticeable difference.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 171d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
To be honest I have no idea which of the guys was standing where at this point, or if the line you originally drew would have fit into one of the line templates; but I will do 34 to two more guys.
I'm not out to screw you guys over, just to keep things moving in as fair and efficient a manner as I can. I guess even after all these years I still make the occasional rules mistake, but I really want to avoid retconning after I've posted an update if at all possible.

Thanks! I knew I wasn't going to drop anybody with one bolt, but there's still some fun in blasting people with evocation spells.

Hey Jubal, Brimleydower wanted me to let you know that he's starting up a short 5e campaign. He wanted to know if you were interested.
Here is the thread:

As a side note: I think we just asphyxiated a whole chamber worth of people the way Jelani described it. I sure hope they were bad guys. Hahaha
Cladissa d'Lavigne Velorryan
Well, that's assuming 1) that there's no way out the back of the corridor; 2) that there's no vents or air holes; 3) that we will just leave them entombed once we've dealt with everything else in the cave. Divide and conquer, right?

If anyone is online and wants to do some back and forth RP, I’m flipping from day to night shift for tomorrow night, and desperately will be trying to stay awake and distract myself for a few hours. So feel free to engage me in game if you’d like to help a brother out!
Argor Blakros
I've bought a Ring of Sustenance and added Fabricate to my spellbook. Anyone wanna pool some coin and buy a higher level healing wand to help us in those "OH S%+% THAT HURT" moments?
Argor Constantine
He's baaaaaaack!
Argor Constantine
Was gonna try and make a grand post for post number 10,000. Instead, I now must ask a question...lol
Jelani: would you be cool with me swapping a couple things I chose last level? I keep forgetting I even have them and haven’t used them.
Namely Metamixing for Force Strike, and Quicken Spell for Craft Staff.
I realize I likely am not going to get much mileage out of either of those, but it’s more thematic to Argor, and is also likely the only chance he will ever have at upgrading his staff.
Gianluca the Honeyed
Will level up in the next few days. I'm off on a work offsite for three days, not sure how much free time I'll have.
Argor Constantine
I am willing to throw 4,200 towards a Level 4 Cure Critical Wounds wand. It'd give us 50 charges of 4d8+7. Pretty helpful in dire situations. The other wands we can use as top off healing between encounters. With 3 of those, we could go into just about every fight at full HP, and use the big wand for responses to big hits.

Doing some work lurking.
Argor Constantine
At work, but so long as things remain slow I’m available for some possible back and forth posting. Be it with Argor (somehow) or Adrenia.
Cladissa d'Lavigne Velorryan
Must have got busy. ;-)
Argor Constantine
Of course. Haha. But I’m good now. Replied.
Argor Constantine
And lurking as well
Argor Constantine
Unless there are any further RP scenes, Argor is ready.
I tossed 4,200 towards a Cure Critical Wounds Wand, hoping the rest of the team does as well. If not, I still have 4,200 to spend.
So, far, it looks like:
Argor: 4,200
Grommesson: 4,200
Cladissa:
Gianluca:
Thrassk:
Cladissa d'Lavigne Velorryan
I can contribute 4,200 as well.
Argor Constantine
Argor: 4,200
Grommesson: 4,200
Cladissa: 4,200
Gianluca:
Thrassk: 4,200
I’m just gonna assume Gianluca joins in and add the wand to my Tracker
Gianluca the Honeyed
Yes, absolutely! Catching up now...
Gianluca the Honeyed
I'm still alive!
Updates done and will post to Gameplay this weekend.
Also, I just looked at my purchases and realized I bought a Wand of Haste last time, and handed it to Adrenia. Argor, not sure if you remembered it but I definitely forgot. Feel free to use liberally (like, basically any fight).
I'll trade my muleback chords for a cloak of resistance +3 with muleback chords spiced in (9000 for the cloak, 500 to combine muleback chords with another item in the same slot).
I'll also take the time to retrain Extra Maneuver Readied -> Advanced Study (600 GP), gaining two more 6th level maneuvers.
DONE.
Argor Constantine
Added the wand to my tracker.

Gaaah. Sorry to be absent all week. It seems my busy stretch at work (which I thought was ending) turned out to be a New Normal.
I hope to post tonight or (more likely) tomorrow.

Lurking a smidge.
Cladissa d'Lavigne Velorryan
Anyone heard from Gianluca?
Gianluca the Honeyed
Oy, so sorry to leave yall hanging on round one of combat for an entire week. I've been overwhelmed for longer than I'd realized. A bit better now. I expect to post tonight.
