This tripped me out earlier:
RL time: 5 months
In-game time: 2 and a half days

And we still haven't even explored this lodge. That could take us another 2 or 3 weeks in RL time!
(Which also leaves room for a new party member to be discovered, trussed up in one of the extra rooms around here...)

" My friend here is bold with his action, but it was only to help you. "
I really enjoyed the way you phrased this. Kudos!

I know it can be difficult to keep perspective over such a long time, but here's what Lady Argentea's week has been like:
Several days ago, she broke off her engagement. While returning home and mulling over what ramifications that might have, she was attacked. Her entourage was killed and some were reanimated as zombies. The captain of her guard was frozen alive and smashed into pieces. She was kidnapped by a dozen not very nice dudes. She was, at the very least, beat up and injured, possibly worse. She is finally freed and one of the first things she encounters is the one person who has been nice to her is a gibbering mess on the floor.
It's been a rough week.

Honestly, I don't have the slightest notion what extra treasure remained in the jewelry box.
Ulfrik isn't that worried about money. Yet. ;) He's more concerned about victory and surviving. I'm sure, though, that it will become a concern before too long in this adventure. (Potions, upgrading equipment, etc.)
We do have a haul from Rohkar and his baddies as well!
DM Slyness |
Aye, I'm considering a couple of options regarding tracking loot. It's an odd duck in PbP.
DM Slyness |
Hmmm... oddly, I recall your motives being a bit more self-serving.
Deke, if you're healing the ladies, roll it up.
DM Slyness |
Thanks for the compliments.
I'm glad that you enjoyed it, E.
=)
DM Slyness |
Heh, not really. Just a visual guide for you guys for who is outside versus inside and such. But duly noted. =)

Just a reminder: it's been about 2 months since we first entered the lodge (in RL time). Ulfrik doesn't know about the - Ice Mephit I think it was? - that Khaleesi spied, aside from a comment by Ha'Penny about someone not allowing people to cross the bridge.
I only mention that here because we need to decide what we do at this point: return to town with Lady Argentea? Take care of some immediate threat nearby and then take her back to safety?
I know Khaleesi mentioned it to Sidhe pages back, but Ulfrik doesn't know about it. Not sure about Dekkembe.
Oh, and now we have this half-breed stranger to deal with... ;)
Sionna Frostflurry |
Um.. as far as I thought the Drow was still on the ground in the barn, and had not been brought out to be seen by anyone beyond Khalessi, and maybe Sidhe who is standing there? Im outside and I don't believe I can see him from where I am. Just saying.
Dekkembe |
Sometimes its hard to keep it all straight in the old noggin. Especially as a scene often plays out over days. Its further complicated when we mention what we intend to do next. Or when we write what our character is thinking (adding flavorful info that I sometimes forget my toon doesn't know). I for one should probably reread scenes before posting. Sometimes I post in the moment and later find I confused a detail or am ahead of the action.
Meta is using knowledge I have but my toon doesn't. In this case, I don't think it was intentional on Ulf's or my part. When Sidhe was telling Euclid to "MARCH" I assumed you all were on the move.

Well sure - if you look at a Map!
Based on Khaleesi's text, it seemed like she was making him follow her. I wanted to try to bridge the two scenes, not pre-empt anything.
And is this going to be like another WEEK in RL just to get Euclid into the lodge?
DM Slyness |
First, it's important to note that one person can't make another do anything. In this case, she may have told him to march, but that just sets up a situation where he makes a choice and then the scene plays out from there in a variety of different ways.
Second, I don't believe the question was meant in a snarky way. Because of the pace of PbP, it can be difficult to keep track of where everyone is and everything that is going on. Each of us has asked a similar question at some point and it's important to remember that it isn't personal, it's clarification.
Third, it takes what it takes. Please do not discourage players from RPing. RP is more important than getting to the next plot point. And we just introduced a new character. That takes some transition. Instead, using this specific example, Ulfrik could head out to investigate and participate in the scene, not that he has to do that. I can see reasons for staying or going.
I hope that helps.

Thanks, Shawn - that does help. If this is more about the RP experience, then I apologize for trying to get to the next plot point.
Though - honestly - that's a very Barbarian approach! LOL I'm more interested in getting to some action! But I'll hold while the three Si's bring in the new guy.

Are we there yet?
(just kidding)
DM Slyness |
Excellent, I'm glad that helped.
I could totally see Ulfrik rushing out with a protective attitude, especially in regards to a certain someone.
And don't forget, the characters don't know he is a PC. It's okay to act with suspicion and such.

I really wasn't trying to start the Spanish Inquisition, it was a question asked out of honest curiosity. I'm sorry even to call Ulf out for the thing, it just happened to be Ulf anf Dekke that did it at that moment. I don't think everyone on the Paizo forums is in fact aware of what meta-ing means, because there were a few different explanations, and some of them not very clear.
I posted something to hopefully get us moving inside, but I'm not sure how to deal with the rp situation. Out of curiosity, D was telling me that this is a long-term sort of game, like we're taking these dudes all the way. If we plan on playing that long, what's the pressure about moving on? I'm sure Ulf and Dekke are super-free to rp and get to know each other and Lady A inside, and maybe get more info. Or come on out to see whassup. The most memorable moments in all the rpg's I've played were usually great rp, not generally great dice rolls (though there's some of those there too).
Just my thoughts. I've read the archives, and we all have some great, fun personalities. I'm looking forward to hanging out with everyone.

If we plan on playing that long, what's the pressure about moving on?
I run into this with the live version of the game as well. There are those who want to play (as in roll the dice and do the mechanics of their character) and those who want to role-play. They are not mutually exclusive, I know, but they are different focuses.
Speaking for myself, the desire to move on is based on my attempt to use this PbP as a "fix" for getting to play. Since I am otherwise GMing, I don't get a chance to just play a character. This seemed a way to get that opportunity. And I do find myself getting a little frustrated due to the nature of PbP - people can't or won't post as often as I would like in order to keep the game moving forward, and that comes out in how I play. I try to keep things moving on toward the next plot point because that interests me more.
Shawn expressing that the rp is more important helps clarify the focus. If people are enjoying interacting as their characters more than the plot, that's great! I may need to accept that this form is not going to meet my desires for playing, and is just a chance to role-play instead.

Things got weird around here. And fast.
That's what happens when posting after partaking of the herb. I'm guessing. =)
Ulfrik Frostmane |
Also, it is very cold outside, noticeably colder than earlier in the day.
And I assume we can tell this by Sionna's exposed - uh...
Y'know - Ulfens can turn quite red! Must be because they have such pale skin to begin with.
