@DM Slyness: Can one use a hand axe as a throwing axe? (I suppose you can throw anything - but they are separate weapons in the CRB.)
@Others re: loot: Ulfrik's not really built for ranged combat. His whole class is about getting in the enemy's face asap and smashing/slashing them as hard as possible. So not really looking to pick up a magic bow. But anyone with decent DEX should carry it.
DM Slyness |
If you want to have it be an extra throwing axe, I'm fine with that.
DM Slyness |
I'll leave it there for now in case you want to RP anything for the night, but I will move on soon if nothing is happening.
Oh, and... watch order, etc.
DM Slyness |
Wow. And I almost made the mistake of hand-waving the night. Lesson learned.
Sidhe the Prowler |
Hello everybody. I'm setting up a new play to open, and I may be a little slow in responding (as in I can only check the board once a day) for the next day or three. Thank you for your patience. I may be able to do more, and will certainly try, so please go ahead and chat with my character, I don't plan to keep you hanging.
Shawn, would you be available for Lisa and I to chat with later on tonight? I've never leveled a pbp Pathfinder character, and would be interested in your guidance the first time so I know what to look for in this system.
Thanks all! And thanks for a wonderful pre-sleep rp...that was fun!
DM Slyness |
Sounds good.
Just a heads up, my computer is a bit wonky atm and is being taken in tomorrow. Hopefully, it'll only be a day or 2.

Yes - hopefully! Especially considering that we're planning on getting back to Dancers this weekend!
Sidhe the Prowler |
Shawn had computer issues. We could rp more, but everybody made themselves ready to go (which I understand) before Shawn's computer issue was fixed, and we've been waiting since then. And since few of us live in the stone house of we've never lagged and held up gameplay, from our glass fortresses we should not throw stones.

re:Sunder Door The way this was supposed to happen: Ulfrik sunders the doors, breaking in while in a Barbarian rage, catching these guys by surprise and granting us a surprise round, during which he charges the closest mook and cuts him down. (Charge grants a +2 "to hit" but with a -2 AC penalty.) It was supposed to be very intimidating. But the @#$%!! roll came up a pathetic frickin' 3!
I don't know if my 17 damage against the doors sufficed to even break in.
Oh well... He's a Barbarian, for gosh sake! He's not about sneaking and subtlety.
Ulfrik Frostmane |
Was laying out my actions and once its clear I can execute them, I will describe them fully.
Oh man! Now I'm feeling the pressure! So much riding on the answer to: did my blow sunder the doors or not?
The way the die have been rolling, Ulfrik is probably going to have to bash the doors a second time to get them to crack. So much for surprise!
"Is that egg on your face?"
Ulfrik: NO! IT's YOUR BRAINS!! AAAarrrrghhhh!!!!
DM Slyness |
Color Spray is a 15 foot cone. You're going to hit 3 of them.
Ulfrik Frostmane |
Uh - hey, Shawn. You moved me to the wrong spot on the map. I was attacking the guy @ L-4, so I should have been where Sionna is.
The unconscious guy could be Coup de Gras'd, and there's be bonuses for him being prone, unconscious, etc., right?
DM Slyness |
K, will fix. That changes things somewhat. Ulfrik takes the 3 damage, not Sionna.
Aye, Coup-de-Grace is in play on all 3. Keep in mind that CdG is a full-round action.
Dekkembe |
Is a skill check to identify what the sickly guys are / their weaknesses a free action?
If so… what skill to roll?
----------------------------------------
In case this speeds it up
Knowledge Arcana or Religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
DM Slyness |
The sick guys are... men who are ill. Heal check to identify, but not a free action.
DM Slyness |
Ha, I wasn't expecting Sidhe to be so bloodthirsty.
DM: 2d20 ⇒ (14, 5) = 19
Ulfrik Frostmane |
For those who don't know: a coup-de-grace is a killing blow. When an opponent is helpless (unconscious; paralyzed;etc), you can opt to outright slay them as a full-round action. You score an automatic critical hit. If they survive the damage, they must roll a Fortitude save (DC 10+ damage sustained) or die.
As there are 3 unconscious baddies, well...
Ulfrik Frostmane |
Until the icy skeletons showed up, I was beginning to fear that we were pulling a Lancelot from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" - charging in and just killing everything in our path:
"Sorry! Sorry, everyone!"
"You killed the best man!"
"Did I? Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to."
"Didn't mean to? You put a sword right through his head!"
"Did I? Oh, sorry. Sorry, everyone! I just get carried away sometimes..."
Dekkembe |
Yah, charging in blindly with out a plan or us organized is something we should only do once. 12 dudes vs 5. Now, let's kick some booty!
@DM - Can I see the guy at i-7 who led the skele's down? Can I cast a spell on him?
Ulfrik Frostmane |
I was afraid this was another: "Did someone read something I missed?" episode, so I decided I'd do what an impulsive, chaotic barbarian would do - enter a Rage and fly into battle without thought!
Even if these aren't the kidnappers, they are bandits. Not that it justifies senseless violence...
Speaking of which, we have several down unconscious. People can bind them if they don't want to slit their throats. Just a suggestion.
Ulfrik Frostmane |
I'm still not sure if that's what I just did or not. Thank God there's no automatic weapons in D & D, or the house would have collapsed on people by now.
Did Sidhe shoot the cleaning woman? D-OH!!
Ulfrik Frostmane |
Dekkembe returns the favor of the shove by shoving his spear into the bandit in the doorway.
I'm confused. I thought Dekke was in his alternate form. But he was able to cast Color Spray, so is his form still humanoid enough to do that? And when did he pull a spear?
I'm just wanting to follow the action economy Pathfinder has, and this is the first Skinwalker I've seen in play.
I know I can draw my greatsword as part of my move action. But I still have to be clear that I am using that action so I don't wind up attempting too many things in my turn.
DM Slyness |
Aye, it's still humanoid. It is not a full shapeshift.
Ulfrik Frostmane |
Aye, it's still humanoid. It is not a full shapeshift.
Dekkembe uses his spear as a "walking stick" and always has it in hand. That said, this is one of the few times he'll ever use it as a weapon.
Ah - got it! Jer had described a shape change earlier where Dekke became a black panther, so I had that image in my head when he said he entered his alternate form and entered the lodge. It surprised me, then, when he cast a spell, and then again when he attacked with his spear.
So he has three forms he can take: human; humanoid; and panther?
DM Slyness |
No, there is no jaguar form. He was trying to convey that his humanoid form is jaguar-esque. But he still has distinguishable hands, walks on two legs, capable of speech, etc.
Ulfrik Frostmane |
Be sure to coach Khaleesi re: 5'-steps and so on. She might need to drink a potion, and to avoid the AoO that can provoke. (And remember that she has DR vs Cold!)
Ulfrik Frostmane |
@DM: Is the fireplace in my way, blocking the bandit @I-6? Between the skeleton and the bandit, I intend to attack the bandit. (In case he's this Rokhar bastard!) If Khaleesi moves back, I can add my Axe to Grind trait bonus +1 damage if I hit.
Read over what others are doing, folks! Sionna was tying up the guy Dekke decided to coup-de-grace, which wasted her action. Plus now that doorway is open for the ill bandits to come through.
Ulfrik Frostmane |
Yes, read carefully, I am coup de gras"ing" the guy to the left of hers. Not the one she is binding.
Uh J - the guy @ K-6 is the guy Sionna is tying up. And your post says that's the one you were couping.
Dekkembe takes a five foot step to the left diverting his attention from the sickened bandits and attempts to coup de gras the guy at K6.
Just in case the Map is displaying funky: Sionna is @L-6 when I look at it. K-6 is the bandit who was unconscious. It's odd - the A is right above the 1 when I read the Map, so really there's no A-1, just B2 on.
edit: Yup. It looks like the letters across the top are a little off, so my bad! You were fine, J! Sionna's @ M-6; the bandit she's tied up @ L-6, and the (now dead) one @ K-6.
Dekkembe |
Must be displaying differently. I think Shawn see's it the same way as he turned the guy I intended to hit to the "deceased" position… He's the one to the left of Siona. (Text doesn't have tone so I want to be clear mine is friendly and not sharp.)
DM Slyness |
The fireplace is indeed in the way.
At some point, the letters got distorted. But D's intention was clear enough.
Ulfrik Frostmane |
At the cost of sounding "d-uh!!": if someone is going to have a challenge posting (you need to wait more than 2 days to post), would it be manageable to post THAT as a heads up here in the discussion?
(I know, I know: "If I had time to post that I can't post, then I'd post!")
It's the NOT knowing that is such a drag. Keep us in the loop on what's going on. "I'm sick, folks! Hope to be back in a day or two!" "Life just got really busy! Hope to post again by [Tuesday]!" etc. etc.
Dekkembe |
A heads up if there will be a delay is nice. A one or two line post to move the game forward, if you don't have time for a fuller description, is also fine. If Sionna and Khaleesi could post a little more frequently I think we would move at a better clip too.
