Hello, and welcome to the Season of Faction's Favor! Here in the discussion thread you can talk about the game, ask questions, or just chat amongst yourselves.

First off, I'd like each of my players to check in here by saying just a little about yourself.

Are you familiar with
... the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game?
... the organized play format of the Adventure Card Guild?
... posting on the Paizo forums?

It's fine if any of those answers are no, but it will help me know how much explanation will be needed as we get ready to kick off on July 9th.

You can also take a look at the instruction guide for players, located here. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Grand Lodge

Don't pigeon-hole me. No thanks. I'm not too fast. I once got to level 3-6 in Super Mario Brothers!

Hello Everyone! I'm dinketry.

I'll likely make an alias to post under once the game starts so that I look like my ACG character, Aric.

I'm fairly familiar with posting to the Paizo boards, the card game, and the OP aspects of the game, though I'm always learning new things. I guarantee that I'll make heaps of errors.

I'm very excited about actually playing this with other people - it's been ages since I've had a chance to play a card game scenario with others. I generally use the box to play with myself. (That sounds suspect...)

Yup, well, let's go make an alias, shall we?

-Dink

Alias made!

Greetings everyone! I'm Gimry.

I have never posted on the Paizo forums before, so the Alias thing is all new to me. Heck, I don't appear to have a fancy avatar picture either when I preview.

I'm very familiar with the Adventure card game itself and play quite regularly. However, I've never done Organized Play before, but I've read through the rules and it seems straightforward enough.

I might be getting ahead of myself, but as an FYI, I'm planning to run the Skull and Shackles Oloch with the Warpriest box and Ultimate Combat box. I do own all 3 boxes(S&S, Warpriest and Combat) I believe that's acceptable for Organized play, right?

Also, I'm in the Central Time Zone.

-Gimry

Hello to you both!

Gimry, you're right about the character, that sounds fine. Do you have an organized play PFS # already? Have you sent images to verify that you own those decks? (Instructions are in the document I linked from the first post.)

Having an alias is optional - you can just post with your regular account if you wish, though many people like to have an alias to show what character they're posting as, and to track information. If you want to make one, go to My Account > Account Settings, and then click on the "Create New Alias" button under Messageboard Aliases. You can also edit it from there to add an avatar.

Also, a pro tip: if you go to the Gameplay tab and make a post there, then delete it right away, you will show up on the Players tab, and this game will appear in your Campaigns screen. You can get there by going to My Account > My Profile, and then clicking on the Campaigns tab. It's a handy way to keep track of any games you're in on the forums, and it also shows if someone has made a new post since you've been there last.

Welcome Gimry! Or shall I say, Oloch?

Oloch Deck Handler

Gorum has called and I have answered. To what ends, I know not but I will lend my blade and faith in Gorum to those who require it.

I do have a PFS # for this character and it's in the spreadsheet. I have not sent the verification images yet. I will read through the file you sent and get that all taken care of tonight hopefully.

M American Nerd 3/Cleric 1

I will be playing Celeste.

I play PACG regularly, and have played PFS scenarios in PbP.

Welcome, welcome! Now we just need Eslibedesh to check in, and we'll all be here.

On the subject of communication: some groups like to set up a Google hangout, a discord channel, or something similar to have a way to chat outside the forums. It can be useful for example if you have a question about the way a card works, or if you need to ping somebody to temp close a location. Other people prefer to keep everything in the gameplay and discussion threads and not mess with anything else.

How do you all feel about it? I have no preference one way or the other, but I can set something up if everybody wants to use it.

Alrighty here I am! Sorry I'm late to the party.

I am also very familiar with the PACG, however, have never posted on forums. I am also not very familiar with organized play, but am definitely interested and willing to learn more.

Looking forward to this,

-Eslibedesh

Enora's Deck Handler

Also, I'd be down to have a Discord/Hangouts chat with everybody. I use discord more, so would rather use that but can use either or, depending on what other people prefer.

I also need to take care of the verification images for the ultimate magic decks, but that should be done by tonight.

Deck Handler for Aric/RedRaven - Dinketry

I'm up for whatever messaging other people choose to use - I use Slack often, but I can figure out any of the others.

I have game mats - does it have to specifically match my character, or can it be any mat? Aric never got a game mat...

I also have a t-shirt for a reroll. Would you like photos of those for verification, GM?

Oloch Deck Handler

I already have Hangouts on my phone, so I would vote that, but it's not like I couldn't put Discord on my phone if we go that route.

For those who are new to the forums, or at least to PACG on the forums, I strongly suggest you take a look at one of the previous games out there to get a sense for how it works. Here's one that I'm in now, for example. There's also a practice thread here if you want somewhere to try out the formatting and such.

@Everyone - Are you all planning to use a copy of the online spreadsheet deck tracker? If so, please use the Share button to give read access to anyone with the link, and put a link into the Class or Race field of your posting alias. That will make it show up under your name for each post.

As always, if you have questions about any of this, feel free to either ask here or send me a PM and I can help you through it.

@Dinketry - The game mat doesn't have to match the character you're playing. I believe photos of those things should also go to MorkXII - you can find his email address in the instruction document.

Deck Handler for Aric/RedRaven - Dinketry

Thanks Elinnea!

I've sent you photos of my mat and my t-shirt. I've also sent them to MorkXII.

I updated my link to reflect my character sheet using the Deck Handler spreadsheet (the new version for the Vigilante character).

I think I'm ready and steady.

-Dink ( I mean Aric - I mean Red Raven, yes that's it!)

I got your photo, and everything looks good. thumbs up

It seems that Google Hangouts would be the easiest to manage. If you're willing to join a chat on that platform, please PM me the email address you would like to use for the purpose.

Deck Handler for Aric/RedRaven - Dinketry

Happy with the turn order, BR!

M American Nerd 3/Cleric 1

I will not be using a chat forum. My life/work schedule doesn't permit a particular piece of time to be used.

M American Nerd 3/Cleric 1

My Deck sheet

Ok, that's fine with me. We should be able to discuss what we need in this thread.

On that note, I added the scourges to the campaign tab, and will shortly put your turn order up in the header so it's easy to find. If there's anything else you need to have available for reference, or certain types of cards you know you will need to have available to summon, let me know.

Oloch Deck Handler

You're up Aric! I'm going to be chilling in the Tarpits for awhile. Question: Do we know what the ? card is in the scenario? For example in Local Heroes (RotR base set) which is similar to this scenario, you shuffle an extra Ally in the deck instead of the Henchman or Villain. Is this setup the same way or is that all Spoilery?

No extra allies in this scenario, I'm afraid, and there's no villain either. I probably should have let you know that much at the outset.

Enora already ran into one of the henchmen:

Lurking Spy:

Henchman 1
Type: Monster
Traits:
Human
Spy
Trigger
Veteran
To Acquire:
Combat 11
OR Stealth
Perception 8
When you examine this card, encounter it and ignore its power that happens before you act.
Before you act, suffer the scourge Curse of Poisoning.
The difficulty of the combat check to defeat is increased by twice the scenario’s adventure deck number. The difficulty of the Stealth or Perception check to defeat is increased by the scenario’s adventure deck number.

There's also one other henchman out there. There's no rule against reading it in advance, but I'll leave it spoilered just in case somebody wants to be surprised.

Spoiler:

Voices of the Spire
Henchman B
Type: Monster
Traits: Human Inquisitor Veteran
To Defeat: Combat 8 OR Charisma Diplomacy 7
The difficulty to defeat is increased by twice the scenario's adventure deck number.
If defeated by a combat check, or if undefeated, draw the scourge Curse of Vulnerability from the box.
If defeated, you may immediately attempt to close the location this henchman came from.

Oloch Deck Handler

Well then. I really put us in a world of hurt then. Have to burn all the way through the Tarpits.

Dink, I think you might be misinterpreting the magnifying glass. It’s not “examine the top card of your location deck”, it’s “of your deck”. As in, the next card that you’re going to draw.

Oloch Deck Handler

Rules Question: I don't think Dink can display my Weapon (Good catch BTW, I was typing faster than I was thinking last night) for both his checks, can he? So we can say he used on the first, but not the second. He easily passed his second check without it.

Also, Dink instead of Divine Favor, I'll cast Magic Weapon on your second check since you're using the Rapier. It's the same die for you, but with my weapon now displayed I'll need Divine Favor for me should I see combat.

Ah, you’re right. Displaying the weapon takes it out of your hand, so it can’t be displayed for a second check until you reset your hand.

Deck Handler for Aric/RedRaven - Dinketry

Oh man, that's dumb of me. Sorry about the misinterpretation of the Magnifying Glass - I'll still recharge it.

Also, that answers a question that I had about Oloch's special ability. Fair enough.

I agree, Oloch, that Magic Weapon would have been a better choice for spell for me. Thanks for the help, everyone! I needed it.

Oloch Deck Handler

@Elinnea: Reading through Enora's turn, you might was to make a couple items from the Box for her just in case. At some point, she may need to get around that barrier. And if this shuffler is anything like the app shuffler, that Barrier was probably top decked :)

That's a good idea. I'll add a few random cards for people to use if they need them.

Deck Handler for Aric/RedRaven - Dinketry

I think I'm very confused about how the Blessings deck works in this forum.

When you posted the refresh post before I went, BR, the Blessing of the Ancients was the top card on the Discard pile. In the game, I would then flip the top card of the Blessings deck. That's when I uncovered the Blessing of Horus.

I've seen some online ACG games where players were posting the flipped blessing card as part of their post, and others where they weren't. It's a huge difference between the actual game and this virtual version of it to have players NOT flip the top card of the blessings deck.

Who flips the top card of the blessings deck?

When I post an update, I'm doing the blessing flip for you. If it says at the top Turn: You, then the card listed as the top of the blessings discard pile is yours. Whether you write the blessing flip in your post or not doesn't really matter; I usually do, as a reminder to myself to check what it is.

The remaining blessings under the spoiler are for people to continue on to their turns without requiring another update from the box runner.

This was much clearer in the old version of the database, when each of the blessings in the deck had the character's name next to it in turn order. That hasn't yet been implemented with the new database.

Deck Handler for Aric/RedRaven - Dinketry

Can I return to my turn (prior to ending my turn) so I can use the Blessing of the Ancients in my hand with the Blessing of the Ancients at the top of the discard pile, then?

Oh right, I forgot to answer that question. Yes, you can do another explore.

Oloch Deck Handler

Actually, I had recharged Aric's Blessing of the Ancients on my turn to get through the trap because it matched the top of my blessing deck.

Enora's Deck Handler

Before I act, I just want to verify that I will have the Blessing of Elements on top of the blessing deck. I may need Celeste to recharge her BoG as that BoE to get past the barrier she so graciously found for me.

Oloch - Gimry wrote:

*sigh* I didn’t see your request, Oloch. And you referred to me as Alric.

Forget my extra explore.

Oloch Deck Handler

Doh! I did, sorry about that. I need to learn to read..

Eslibedesh, that's correct, it's a blessing of the elements.

On the next update I'll try adding the character names to the first set of blessings in the deck, to make it easier to keep track.

Oloch Deck Handler

Elinnea, I just want to say thanks for all you do looking out for us as we fumble through this :)

Well it is a new medium, playing PACG online like this, so there are bound to be some hiccups as you and I learn what we're doing. It's also a new back-end system, so you are currently being the guinea pigs, and rooting out all the places that could be better. So kudos to you all too, for sticking with it and figuring this out. ^^

Oloch Deck Handler

I like the changes to the Blessings list, Elinnea! I think that will help. Now if you wouldn't mind top decking the Allies for my compatriots so we don't actual fail this scenario that would be great! :)

Hah! Nice try.

Oloch Deck Handler

Nice close Aric! I noticed the Location. A little riskier than I would have dared to do especially with 1 location already needing to be completely cleared, but it worked.

Closing that locationgives us the following ability:

For the rest of the scenario, a character at any location may bury a card to add 1 die to her check that invokes the Human or Poison trait.

Only 5 more to go as we will reach the halfway point on this turn.

M American Nerd 3/Cleric 1

I will be away from my computer from later tonight until late Saturday night.

Ok thanks for letting us know.

Enora's Deck Handler

Sorry for posting this so late, but both me and Gimry are going to be unable to post until tomorrow, I'll post as soon as I get a chance.

Some of you might be seeing this message more than once if you're in multiple games for the Cards Against Gnomanity convention, but we have an update from our head honcho Tyler!

***

Hello players!
We have received the final piece of our convention support, the special convention player rewards!
First off, if you are a BRAND-NEW player to the Adventure Card Guild (as in, the character you're using in your game is your #XXXX-1001 and you have not played any other characters in organized play) you can assign the Welcome to Pathfinder Reward to that character:
Society Initiate: You may only assign this reward to the first PFSACG character that you create. At the end of a scenario, if your character is dead, you may cross this reward off; your character is no longer dead. If you have a role card, you may instead cross this reward off to gain a card feat.

In addition, EVERY player AND box runner is going to have a 10% chance after each scenario of scoring a reward. These rewards can be assigned to any of your PFSACG characters... they don't have to apply to the character you were using. If you roll a 1 or a 20 on your d20 roll at the end of a scenario, you'll get to choose from any one of the following faction rewards:

Note about faction rewards: Faction rewards are a special type of benefit tied to the factions that use their considerable influence within the Pathfinder Society to pursue their own agendas. You may apply no more than one faction reward to a given character at one time. You may use no more than one power from a faction reward per scenario. Each faction reward specifies additional requirements that, once fulfilled, grant additional uses of the reward’s power. Once you have used all of the powers from a faction reward, including the powers that have additional requirements, you may assign another faction reward to that character.

Player Reward 1: Concordance Faction Reward
[ ] [ ] Elemental Scholar (The Concordance Faction Reward): You may check a box that precedes this reward to reduce Acid, Cold, Electricity, Fire, or Poison damage dealt to you by 2.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Exceed the difficulty of a check to acquire a card that has the Acid, Cold, Electricity, Elemental, Fire, or Poison trait by 6 or more.
[ ] Exceed the difficulty of a check to defeat a monster that has the Elemental trait by 6 or more.

Player Reward 2: Dark Archive Reward
[ ] Collector of Wonders (Dark Archive Faction Reward): On your turn, you may check the box that precedes this reward to draw an item that has the Alchemical or Magic trait or a spell from the box.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Acquire a boon that has the Book trait, a boon that lists Knowledge in its check to acquire, or a spell.
[ ] Succeed at a Knowledge check to defeat a bane.

Player Reward 3: Grand Lodge Reward
[ ] [ ] Society Agent (Grand Lodge Faction Reward): You may check an unchecked box that precedes this reward to automatically succeed at your check to temporarily close a location.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Acquire an ally that lists Diplomacy in its check to acquire.
[ ] Close a location on the first turn of a scenario.

Player Reward 4: Liberty's Edge Reward
[ ] [ ] Freedom Fighter (Liberty’s Edge Faction Reward): After you roll on your Charisma check, Diplomacy check, or check attempted before you act, check a box that precedes this reward to add or subtract 1 die; take the new result.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Defeat a monster that has the Captain or Gnoll trait.
[ ] Succeed at a Charisma or Diplomacy non-combat check to defeat a villain or a henchman.

Player Reward 5: The Exchange Reward
[ ] Master of Trade (Exchange Faction Reward): After the roll on your check to acquire a weapon, an armor, or an item, check the box that precedes this reward to add 1d6; take the new result.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] All of the cards offered by a trader you visit have an adventure deck number lower than that of the current scenario.
[ ] Succeed at a Craft non-combat check to acquire or defeat.

Player Reward 6: Silver Crusade Reward
[ ] [ ] Cleanser of Abominations (Silver Crusade Faction Reward): On your turn, you may check an unchecked box that precedes this reward to banish a scourge or a card that has the Curse trait.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Defeat a villain or henchman that has the Demon, Fiend, or Undead trait.
[ ] Play a card that shuffles at least 1 card from another character’s discard pile into his deck.

Player Reward 7: Sovereign Court Reward
[ ] [ ] Lawful Citizen (Sovereign Court Faction Reward): You may check an unchecked box that precedes this reward to evade a monster you encounter or to ignore a power that would move you.
You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.
[ ] Succeed at a check required to move.
[ ] Bury or banish an armor to reduce all damage dealt to you to 0.

This is the first online ACG event where we've been able to give out rewards like this, so I'm SUPER excited to offer them to you all! Good luck, and I hope each of you wins at least one!!

Tyler

Eslibedesh and Gimry: Is this the first time doing ACG organized play for both of you? (I think you did say that, just confirming.) If so you qualify for the Society Initiate boon mentioned above, and I can get a copy to you.
