About Ugluk

Unbeknownst to Redleg, his was not a spawning of one. There was (at least) one other child born that day: Ugluk. Ugluk was uglier and skinnier than his brother, and although he was mean-spirited he was also cannier, too. Cast into the gutter, Ugluk grew to adolescence on the streets, living as an urchin and making a few coppers cheating at dice and cards and scamming tourists. Knowing that he could not fit in for long in Katapesh City, or accept his place in the dregs of society, at the first available opportunity Ugluk wandered off into the deep desert. He learned to survive on his own in the most dreadful fashion imaginable, but as soon as he could he took up with a roving war band of Orcs.

The glorious hordes of Orcs known throughout the rest of the world are all but unknown in the deserts of Katapesh, their natural place as locusts of society taken by the roving gnolls. Unnamed as a pariah in Katapesh City, the outcast's new clan gave him a traditional Orcish name: Ugluk. Ugluk's new band was but a small and cut-throat group of mercenaries. Ugluk was never large or deadly enough to threaten the band's alpha, but he made a living for himself by the sword and in the gambling circles. In his time in the desert he became gradually harsher and harsher, and learned to live by no moral code but his own.

Cold steel and stolen gold satiated Ugluk's lusts for many years, but over time he grew to desire what he had never possessed and his new war party could never give him: the connections of blood. At every rumor of a half-orc about his age, Ugluk left the party to investigate and returned unsatisfied. Hearing rumors of the heroics of the half-orc in Garavel's caravan, Ugluk set out to seek employment (and possibly his twin brother.) Sadly, Ugluk only arrived in time to hear of Redleg's untimely death. He has not revealed his suspicions that he may be the dead warrior's brother to his new comrades, but the fear of it weighs on him every day.

Wish: Ugluk desperately craves the bond of family. He may have other siblings abroad, in which case he will seek them. Failing that he may seek the comradeship of his new "family" in the party. Or, if his suspicions about Redleg being his brother prove true he may seek bloody vengeance on his killers and any who failed to help him.
