Natalie Saratov |

In that case Natalie proberly doesn't go outside.
"Well on the bright side it looks like Gorruum found out this place is trapped, so we should proceed with care! Natalie says looking over at the staircase.

Gorruum |

Gorruum manages to hack the rest of the poison gas out of his lungs and finds that by taking shallower breaths, he seems to be able to lessen its effects.
Fort save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Fhârn |

"Heh. I like how you think..." Fhârn chuckles at Natalie. "It seems odd if the trap has laid dormant since the elves left this place, especially given the neighbours, so there might be someone or something residing in here still."

Gorruum |

Gorruum takes a quick look at the stairs. "Tricky. Hide trap as something funny for hooms. Gorruum watch better for funny trap." The boggard starts up the stairs.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 12 - 1 = 30

mdt |

The stairs end in a circular room featuring wide windows draped with hanging vines that offer panoramic views of the keep’s overgrown courtyard and the forest beyond. An open circular skylight in the ceiling provides glimpses of the forest canopy overhead. The walls between the windows are carved with exquisite, delicate nature motifs highlighted in gold and silver leaf. A riot of flowers, plants, and bushes sprout from the thick loam that carpets the hall’s floor, as if one were walking in a fantastic glade elevated high above the forest floor.
Against one wall is a small wooden table with vines growing over it. A chair, almost throne like, sits with it's back next to a window. In it is seated an elvin woman. Her white hair flows down to match her long white dress. A crimson sash tied at her waist holds the dress closed. Emerald green eyes flicker to Gorruum as he ascends to the top of the steps. "Foul creature, why do you intrude upon my home? Begone back to your swamp..." She says in heavily accented common.

Natalie Saratov |

Natalie steps up behind Gorruum and talks to the women in elven
Trying to calm the woman Diplomacy: 10 + 7 = 17

Gorruum |

Gorruum listens to the woman and Natalie, struggling to understand anything, but finally blurts out "PAR LAY!"

mdt |

"I am Ceilash'Na. You say you were attacked, yet it is you who have invaded my home, without permission, and when my retainers defended my demense, you killed one and severely wounded the other. I see no way in which you can claim to not be here to hurt me. You are obviously assassins and murders, grave robbers and outlaws." She says with a cold disdain in an oddly accented Elvish. Her name means 'Dancing Lady' in Elvish
The woman responds to Natalie with a cold voice, and an utter lack of friendliness toward her or Gorruum.

Anastacia Stormwing |

Anastacia speaks no elvish, but she can tell that Natalie's efforts aren't going so well. "Not all of us came from a swamp."
"We are here to explore this region. Change is coming, we are harbingers of this change. It is fate that draws us to your door. Fate that forced our intrusion. We offer you a chance for peace, and shelter from the on coming change that will surely sweep this land."
Anastacia looks the elven woman straight in the eye.
"I beg you. Listen to our words, don't do anything rash, before you know our true quality. Hear us out, and then decide what is best for you. We are not here to intrude, but to protect and defend."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

mdt |

No one is moving themselves on the map, but they have to, to be talking, so I'll move you. If you don't like where I move you, you'll have to move yourselves. Will give Wilhelm and Fharn a chance to post before responding.

Natalie Saratov |

I can not say how sorry I am for the rash decision, but we weren't giving much of a choice then to defend against your defender.
Natalie bows deeply for the elven woman
Diplomacy: 10 + 7 = 17

Fhârn |

Linguistics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 Maybe there is a little hint of Sylvan, Aklo or Nercil in her language?
"Those whom greet by the sword, die by the sword..." Fhârn quotes. He didn't have high hopes for this conversation, strange ladies living with quicklings and assassin vines seldom do, but ... Miracles do happen?

Wilhelm Orlovsky |

As the others speak, Wilhelm studies the woman, eyes glowing white. After a moment, he whispers to Natalie, "Can you translate that conversation? I'm loathe to jump in without knowing more about what was said. I gather she feels we invaded, despite the fact we were attacked without warning?"
Detect Evil on the elven woman. If I can assume she translates, I can add in my own diplomacy. :)

Natalie Saratov |

Whispering to Wilhelm Natalie gives him the short version of the conversation: "Basicly she thinks we are here to hurt her. This whole ruin is her home, and those things which attacked us was her retrainers. I've tried to calm her by apologizing our actions."

mdt |

EVIL! EVIL! ALERT ALERT! EVIL! EVIL!
As Wilhelm's eyes glow, the woman stands up and takes a step out from behind the table. She makes no overt signs of hostility, instead she begins to...
...sway and humm under her breath, dancing in a somewhat provocative way. Her body moving rythmically...
"You would cast spells on me, Paladin, in my own home? I see no reason to trust such a one who breaks courtesy so openly..."
Ok, this is going to be up to you. If your character is a bi or heterosexual male, or a bi or homosexual female, then you receive a -2 penalty to the will save. Being a boghard, Gorruum likely doesn't receive the -2 penalty, unless Gorruum's player decides he's a non-standard member of his species and has a thing for hooms. The will save is DC 19. Failure means you are captivated by her dance, and are dazed for as long as she continues to dance. I'll roll initiatives once we figure out who is dazed and who isn't.

Gorruum |

Gorruum watches the woman sway for a moment almost getting caught up in her dance before thinking, First pointy ears tells Gorruum back to swamp. Now wants to dance nice. Wait...that not right.
Will save (Gorruum): 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 1 = 20
Nope, no deviant boggard behavior for Gorruum. He likes foul swamp creatures :)

Wilhelm Orlovsky |

That Wilhelm is interested in women has been pretty well established. Haven't thought about the other side of that coin, but we'll see if it comes up later.
Will Save: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 9 - 2 = 24 Obviously Wilhelm's eyes are only for Lanya...
Wilhelm breaks his gaze from the woman as she begins to dance, shaking off the mental torpor that had begun to overtake him. "Stop this! We are not here to hurt you. Your companions attacked us without warning when we entered the ruin and when there was little to indicate anyone was here. In our place, you would be similarly cautious."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 If you'll allow the attempt. Thought with that roll, there's no chance of success. :P

Natalie Saratov |

For some reason Natalie seems rather interrested in the elf despite not knowing her at all. Natalie likes the person not the gender so she can be called bi.
"Subtle as a rhino Wilhelm why did... hmmm sounds good."
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 This feels like an enhancement effect, if not just take 2 off.
"No Ceilash'Na, I know to little of you, I will not succumb to your tricks!"

Fhârn |

Will: 1d20 + 4 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 - 2 = 8
Hmmm hmmm hmmm Hmmmmmm! *glossy stare*

mdt |

Readied Actions go off
The entire floor of the room erupts into motion as the plants that grow there suddenly begin to move as well, as if in time to the woman's motions. But instead of swaying, they grasp and rip at the group.
DC 13 Reflex save or be entangled. Those who are mesmerized lose their Dex bonus to their reflex saves
Meanwhile, near Natalia, the vines against the wall suddenly move and the creature from the other tower steps out and slashes at her with a claw.
Claw: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 + Sneak: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2) = 9
Natalia has a DC 14 Fort save to make as her wound burns viciously

mdt |

Surprise round over, nobody could beat the stealth DC of the claw guy
Round 1
Init, Anastacia: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Init, Fharn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Init, Gorruum: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Init, Natalia: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Init, Wilhelm: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

Init, Elf Man: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Init, ???: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
Elf Man, Elf Woman, Gorruum, Anastacia, Natalia, Fharn, Wilhelm, ???
The elf man attacks Natalia again, with both claws this time.
Claw 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Claw 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Damage 1: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 + Sneak: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4) = 12
Damage 2: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 + Sneak: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 2) = 13
The elf woman looks at Gorruum. "You, Creature, I suggest for your own safety that you should protect me by attacking anyone that doesn't surrender to me, or isn't already my ally..." Her eyes glow red for a second as she speaks in heavily accented common.
Gorruum needs to make a DC 17 Will Save or follow her suggestion...
Then she moves toward Fharn, still dancing as she moves closer to him.

Natalie Saratov |

I have Uncanny dodge so I can't be flat-footed.
Reflex save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

Fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

feint: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7+Sneak: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 5) = 11

mdt |

Yep, figured you did, but sometimes people take archetypes that lose it. Easier to do the sneak attacks and let them resolve it
Poison: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Poison: 1d2 ⇒ 1
As the wounds burn, Natalie's muscles begin to contract in pain. The uncontrolled contractions make it harder and harder for her to move. -3 dex
While the vines don't seem to get a hold of her, the combination of the woman's dancing, the vines, and the pain prove too much of a distraction as her blade goes wide, despite her having successfully bluffed the creature.

Gorruum |

Reflex save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Gorruum quickly finds himself entangled in the vines. Swamp much better than forest. Too many vines.
Will save: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 = 15 That assumes +2 vs. charm and compulsion effects applies. But, still short by 2.
"Anastacia, Natalie, Fharn, and Wilhelm surrender? Gorruum attack if no surrender."
Gorruum delays to see what Anastacia, Natalie, Fharn and Wilhelm do.

Wilhelm Orlovsky |

Reflex save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Strength check to break entangle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 DC 13
Wilhelm is too busy shouting at the woman in an attempt at diplomacy that he is caught completely off guard by the vines. Shouting in alarm he tries in vain to break free.
Finding himself trapped, he looks at Gorruum in surprise. On a hunch, he focuses carefully, ignoring the distractions of the battlefield to cast a spell. He then attempts to touch Gorruum before the boggard can react. "Snap out of the haze, Gorruum. Help us against her!"
Concentration casting defensively: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 DC 17
Concentration vs entangle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 DC 16
Touch attack vs Gorruum: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Move action to try and break the entangle, standard action to cast Protection from Evil and then a free action to touch Gorruum.

Gorruum |

Will save: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 + 2 = 12
Gorruum looks confused for a moment, then his eyes refocus, "No. Should have surrendered."
Bummer, still not a good enough roll. Still delaying till after Anastacia and Fharn.
May as well do a Perception check for Ubagub here too since it looks like we might need him.
Perception (Ubagub): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Base DC is -10. Distance modifiers I think are 40-45 feet horizontally, but I'm not sure how tall. However, the tower would have to be over 175 feet tall to put the distance past even that lousy roll unless there are other Perception modifiers I'm not thinking about.

mdt |

50 ft up, plus penalties for thickness of walls (he's outside the tower). So, -5 for horizontal distance, -5 for height, -5 for penalties from the walls. That's -15. That gives him a -7, so he makes it, barely. I'd say he hears something and saunters into the tower first, then makes another perception check. Just note, the stairs are only 5 ft wide, so he'd need to squeeze up them

Gorruum |

Sounds good. I figured the squeeze was going to slow things down.

Fhârn |

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Whee! 'Only Dazed' :P Darn pesky fey

Gorruum |

Seeing Anastacia and Fhârn stand by passively, Gorruum turns to Wilhelm and with a sad look says simply, "Should have surrendered...should still surrender." before bringing his halberd down hard against the paladin. Perhaps due to the half-hearted nature of his attacks, Gorruum's blows strike wildly until his tongue manages to snake out and catch the paladin on the neck.
I'm not invoking Ranger's Focus here. Gorruum hasn't been using it in every fight and I don't think the wording of the suggestion would have him using every available resource at this point.
Halberd Attack 1: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
Damage 1: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Cornugon Smash Intimidate: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19
Pretty sure that missed even with entangled condition so Cornugon Smash would not go off.
Halberd Attack 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Damage 2: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Cornugon Smash Intimidate: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22
Also pretty sure that attack missed...
Sticky Tongue 1 (touch): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Pretty sure that hits so Wilhelm has a -2 to AC and can't move more than 10 feet away due to the tongue and a -1 to strength due to Gorruum's cap of enervation. Gorruum's tongue gains 5 temporary hit points.

mdt |

Plants near Natalie begin to move, and a heavy vine whips and attacks Wilhelm past Natalie!
Slam: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
However, while the vine makes a very loud racket as it clangs off Wilhelms's armor, it appears it didn't do any damage to the Paladin.

mdt |

Round 2
Init, Anastacia: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Init, Fharn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Init, Gorruum: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Init, Natalia: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Init, Wilhelm: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Init, Elf Woman: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Init, Elf Man: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Init, ???: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11
Anastacia, ???, Elves, Everyone else
Slam: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
The confusion seems to be affecting the vine however, and this time it hits the wall next to Wilhelm.
The elf woman sidles up to Fharn, and even as she continues to dance, begins enfolding the man in her arms, her eyes inches from his. Her mouth opens wide, and large heavy fangs come into view.
Grapple: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
The two begin to sway in a complicated and intricate, and somewhat provocative dance. However, she isn't quite able to grapple Fharn, who seems to be enjoying his dance.
Finally, the clawed man continues to attack Natalie.
Claw 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Claw 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
However, he appears to be distracted by the elf woman's dance with Fharn.
And again with the resisting the entangle if you're not entangled, as you are still within the area of effect. Gorruum doesn't have to make the entangle check

Natalie Saratov |

Reflex save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 Natalie dances around the vines like it isn't even there.
Natalie tries to hit the elfman again.
Feint: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29 "Hey look over there!"
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3+Sneak: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 4) = 8
Confirme roll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 Enough?
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
With the others stuck in the vines I take the crit rather then give to the next person hitting the elf.

Wilhelm Orlovsky |

Falchion attack with PA/FF: 1d20 + 12 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 12 - 1 = 19
Falchion damage with PA: 2d4 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 4 + 6 = 18
As Gorruum's awkward blows clang off his armor, Wilhelm reluctantly swings his blade up to free himself of his boggard companion's sticky tongue. "Snap out of it, friend! Parley!" Growling angrily as he continues to try to fight free of the vines, he calls on Iomedae's wrath against the elven woman.
STR check to Break Entangle: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Standard action to attack Gorruum's tongue, move action to try to break free and swift action to smite evil the elf woman.

Gorruum |

I think that's an attack against the tongue, which would be successful. You have to decide either an attack against it OR an opposed Strength check (standard action)...
Strength check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 ...which would not be successful
Question for mdt is whether attacking the tongue, which clearly hurts, but does not affect actual hit points is sufficient to invoke the suggestion clause about "Asking the creature to do some obviously harmful act automatically negates the effect of the spell."

mdt |

No, asking the character to guard you/fight is pretty much what the thing can do (suggested method in the AP actually). The clause refers to standing in fire, walking on lava, etc, things that are obviously just to hurt yourself. Wilhelm's str check was to get out of the grass entangle, he's entangled by both the tongue and the grass. I believe the damage to the tongue is enough to end the tongue attack, yes?

Wilhelm Orlovsky |

I included the strength penalty in my attack/damage. I assumed I had successfully attacked the tongue and that I was no longer suffering the -1 strength for the tongue attack.

mdt |

Ah, I only looked at the last one to see if you were taking the penalty (it was the easiest). However, you are at -1 str for the rest of combat. Per the item, The penalty and temporary hit points last for 1 minute.

Wilhelm Orlovsky |

So it does. My bad. Still don't break free though.

mdt |

Natalia manages to distract the clawed elf creature, but doesn't follow up on it beyond a good solid hit. No crit
Wilhelm grunts tiredly and chops Gorruum's tongue, severing it and making the frog man grunt in pain (and getting blood on himself again).

mdt |

I need a roll from Fharn to avoid being entangled again, also Natalia I'll post the bad guys actions once I know who's entangled/etc.
Round 3
Init, Anastacia: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 - 2 = 20 Stunned, Entangled
Init, Fharn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Stunned
Init, Gorruum: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 Controlled

Init, ???: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2

Fhârn |

Ref vs Entangle: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Btw, Entangle is usually a non-discriminatory spell ... :P (but the faë and plants may have ways around it)

mdt |

The elf man claws at Natalie again.
Claw: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Claw: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
The elf woman again attempts to grapple Fharn.
Grapple: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
But again can't seem to get the dancing man to stand still long enough to get her arms around him.
PCs up.
