Kimiko |

nope

Lingfeng Shangguan |

Sorry to hear that, man. Hope she's all right.

Kimiko |

As someone with no cartilage left in the knees, I fully understand knee pain... hope her recovery is speedy.

Dunja Hanna |

Best wishes mdt.
How do we want to approach this situation?

![]() |

Hopefully that catch up will begin "With the oni soundly thrashed and all enemies vanquished Yanyeeku stands proudly in his new golden armor..." or something to that effect?
Its probably going to be an angy oni horde chasing Zamu and Akio isn't it...

Gavmania |

Just a quick note that I'll be camping this weekend (leaving tomorrow morning) and I'll be off 'Ye Olde Grid' until Monday.
I thought I recognised that phrase - I didn't realise you were playing Travigan in DM Dr Evil's Curse of the Crimson Throne with me. Small world.
Have fun, and see you next week.

mdt |

I've been slammed at work. I'll try to get updates by Monday night.
Let me know what your plans are so I know what to post.
The two scouts will get back unmolested, for now...

Xú Yanyeeku |

So if they are getting back unharmed then we have to assume that a force will be coming soon? Seems like we need to try to basically space ourselves out to keep an eye out and prepare for a fight?

Dunja Hanna |

Fighting from inside the village is risky though, since it puts the villagers in the line of fire. It may be more prudent to make our stand a bit outside of the wall, maybe using the forest as cover against arrows.

Lingfeng Shangguan |

Agreed. Minimize the damage to the locals and their property. This feels like the Seven Samurai, guys! Man, I hope we end up with a better number of survivors than they did...

Dunja Hanna |

I only watched Samurai Seven, which involved less accuracy and more giant robots. My knowledge on the subject may be a bit skewed in that regard.
Do Lingfeng or Kimiko have any nasty AoE spells we can use for an ambush? I still have smoke pellets, caltrops, and a fungal stun vial.

Lingfeng Shangguan |

I've got Burning Hands. It's... technically AoE, but I have to get close, since it's a fifteen-foot cone. If I had a bodyguard, I'd be confident in doing it, since my build jacks up the damage on it, but otherwise... until I get Fireball, I'm kinda stuck with small-fry stuff. I can snipe people with Magic Missile, though.

Kimiko |

Kimiko has sleep, which is aoe, and produce flame, but at my lvl, I can only throw 2 flames before it's gone, but more useful would be my 1x/day sla of entangle, which is a 40' field and will slow and perhaps hold some of them, but if they have ranged weapons, they can still fire them at us, however we can use the forest for cover and fire back at them... just a thought. Twice a day I can use adhesive spittle too, which is handy to hold 2 of them as if grappled.

Lingfeng Shangguan |

*sigh*
I just realized that I have a wand of magic missile in addition to having magic missile as one of my (few) known spells. So, in other words, I could have been using the blasted wand this whole time... and could have built Lingfeng with a different spell in place of it. This is the second time I've done this with a character, too. I know I can switch one spell out when we hit Level 4, but there's no telling when that'll be.
*cries on the inside*

Zamu is an archer, so any high place with good all round vision is fine, such as a tree. In a pinch he can fire in melee, but he's not really built for it. If Kimiko uses her entangle, that would be a tremendous help to Zamu.
Btw, can he get any healing?

Dunja Hanna |

I have CLW prepped and a couple of potions ready when you get back.

Dunja Hanna |

If you want, Kasani, I can pass some of the caltrops, smoke pellets, and stun vial to you so you'll be able to mess with people at range. Alternatively, the villagers may have a spare bow and arrow to pass along.

Xú Yanyeeku |

If Kasani wants my MW naginata to use, I can stay at range or use my kukri. I'm mostly useful flanking or reach so it would be ideal to have you using a real weapon. Heck if the village can give me something simple (like a spear) that would work fine...

Dunja Hanna |

As far as I understand it's fine. I think I grabbed my stuff when we were being harassed by the smaller spirit.

mdt |

Dunja's is broken if it was not on her person. Armor takes time to don. If I remember correctly, her camping supplies were trashed as well. Unless you had light armor, which you can sleep in.
Sorry folks, buried at work, working my way through. Client went into panic mode and put all work on hold, across the company, so I'm slammed shutting down the project in a way it can be reactivated later.

Dunja Hanna |

I checked my posts and I didn't explicitly say that I was carrying my bag when we ran away, so I guess it got mostly smashed up too ;_;
But I was wearing light armor, so that isn't a problem.
Also, Kasani, sweet idea! I like it!

![]() |

Sorry, I'm putting this in all my games. I've been in a pretty bad accident this past Sunday and just came to last night. I'll be alright but I haven't checked any of my threads or games, and likely won't be posting frequently for another few days at best. If that's OK I'd still like to participate. My apologies- rorek55

Dunja Hanna |

GM did the message to the plants yield any fruit?

mdt |

It may, but, plants are not exactly swift messengers. Chemical communication on wind, vibrations in a breeze, and she was half a day's walk from the village. Assuming she's even awake yet, you can't expect any response for at least a day or two probably.

Dunja Hanna |

I don't have anything special I can do, so I'm ready to move forward.

Xú Yanyeeku |

I feel like the problem is we probably need to do a pair of patrols along that outside and then have folks placed to move wherever there is trouble? I doubt we have the kind of time to do terrain manipulation to funnel them to specific battle area (though we can assume their intended target in the shed area right?)
We have a lot of low light vision but no dark vision. Still thats better than nothing. I could be one of the walking patrols because I can cast Vanish and hide?

Kasani Takahashi |

Yeah, I feel like we're kind of hamstrung as far as the planning/prep can go. At this point, I think we can really just state our intentions that we're hoping to engage the oni-kun far enough from the village to prevent them from getting to the drying house, but that's mostly out of our hands at this point.
When they show up, we'll just have to do our best to hold whatever lines we have.

Dunja Hanna |

I had hoped to use the villagers trap-making experience to our advantage but it looks like the oni-kun are on their way right now, so we no longer have that luxury.

mdt |

Ok, I had to rebuild the map to get grids. I've done so. My assumption is you're staying at the inn. I need to know who has what shifts for patrol duty. Also what routes you want to follow for patrols.
I still need to make an icon for Akio, will do so later today.

Dunja Hanna |

Lingfeng and I are taking first shift and following the outside of the wall, from the west entrance around to the east entrance and then using the road through town to start the whole path again.
Unless someone has a better suggestion? I don't have a whole lot of experience planning patrol routes.

Lingfeng Shangguan |

That works for me, you guys. I don't know a whole lot about the mechanics of defending a town, so I'm just kind of winging it.

![]() |

Sounds good, but Zamu would work best if he were high up with a good all round view. That doesn't mean he can't patrol if you guys think he needs to, but the Elder's lookout tower would be better, I think.

Akio Ryuu Katsu |

Akio could work almost like a correspondence between the patrols, moving back and forth between each one, either relaying messages, doing check ups, and acting as an overall support to the others, it also lets him move about fairly stealthily (dice gods be willing) and cover any holes in the patrols.

Dunja Hanna |

Well we can't all be patrolling at the same time, we need to operate in shifts or else we'll be fatigued tomorrow with nothing to show for it if they don't attack tonight.

Kimiko |

Kimiko has low light vision so would be best on first or last watch where the fading light or growing light of dawn would work for her, but she'll sit whatever watch she's needed on, and patrol as necessary... She does have dancing lights so can use that to light things up at a distance to see a bit further, and 1/day, she can set up a huge entangle field (40' radius) if necessary, to slow down potential attackers.

Xú Yanyeeku |

Well if shift one is Dunja/Lingfeng, then Kimiko and I can be shift two, Akio and Kasani can be shift three and Zamu can sty in the tower as a swing shift central spotter of sorts?
