Ok, so, your only two people with zero-g training are Glitch and Malt, and Malt has no suit. So the only person who has a chance of safely moving the big thing around is Glitch. So someone else will have to cycle the airlock for people this time.
The conversation back in the pinnace is slightly amusing, what with everyone's voice sounding like chipmunks due to the high pressure and the hydrogen/helium content of the air (replacing nitrogen).
GM making secret rolls for Malt, Dev, Glitch, and Tam (Malt + bonuses) to do maintenance on the suits
Mechanic&Vacc Suit: 2d6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2) + 3 + 3 = 10
Mechanic&Vacc Suit: 2d6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 3 + 3 = 8
Mechanic&Vacc Suit: 2d6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (5, 4) + 3 + 3 = 15
Mechanic&Vacc Suit: 2d6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4) + 3 + 3 = 12
Mechanic&Vacc Suit: 2d6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (5, 5) + 3 + 3 = 16
I need recon checks from everyone before you get started
Dev Vorn |
Recon: 2d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3, 1) + 1 + 1 = 6
Warren Connery |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
When Tam speaks to him Warren jumps a bit. "Sorry. I got lost in my work. If that happens just nudge me in the future. My best guess is that these creatures were killed by a MASSIVE does of tachyons. This level of damage would be equivalent to 30-40 years of a human working with a faulty tachyon emitter. I don't know what did it but it did it quick. These creatures didn't even know they were sick when they died. You are right though we need to get back to the ship." Warren then begins to head out.
Recon: 2d6 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (1, 6) + 2 - 3 = 6
Sorry for not posting it's been a very busy few days since Thanksgiving. Robbie has been a real bear with his colic and is driving my wife crazy (it's a short drive :) ) at times and that's eating up my time.
EAVE |
I was (subtly) prodding the fleshies that I happened to be riding, kitty! :P
Once they return, the pair of bots begin to reassemble, seemingly not as interested in their surroundings as normal.
"Everything is dead!" EAVE shares excitedly. "Everything! No survivors! So it's nice and safe for the crew! With no one to be upset when we take it!"
Recon: 2d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 1 + 2 = 7

As Glitch begins to enter the airlock, Tam notices a bulge in the back of her suit, under the power pack, that shouldn't be there. It may be a failure point that was missed during the maintenance, if it fails, Glitch could be poisoned by the atmosphere!
Scandalous |
Scandalous calms down from worry when she sees Glitch is going to be ok. She turns around and heads over to take a look at one of the fusion powered fighters. She examines the cockpit to see if there is a way to open it.
mdt |
Scandalous can give me a Difficult Piloting or Average Mechanics check
Getting Glitch back into the pinnace, Tam finds that a seal was not properly replaced during the maintenance the night before. It was likely going to fail within 10 minutes.
2d6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1) + 3 + 3 = 10
An hour of fiddling with the suit has the seal properly replaced and some reinforcing tape put in place, just in case.
Then everyone can return to the airlock to cycle through... Who's going to cycle the airlock for the rest of the party?
Scandalous |
Tell you one thing, recon is the next skill :P
Scandalous giggles to herself. She couldn't believe how cool it was to be doing exactly what she is doing right now. She sticks her suited head in and lets the lights on her helmet flood the space of the cockpit. She carefully looks around for anything of interest.
Recon: 2d6 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (6, 4) + 1 - 3 = 8
EDIT: Thanks EAVE. I really appreciate it, but I'm happy to cycle for the rest of the group.

It occurs to Malt that he is going to be of very little use here, so he will go back to operating the one maintenance bot that was tasked to him, not to specifically accomplish anything, but to learn the ins and outs of the operation of these bots (i.e. studying the skill)

Sorry Malt, sounds good.

Scandalous finds that the interior of the cockpit looks like the pinnace, only much more busy with dozens of more controls. Built for someone with four arms and better vision than a human
She does find that there's a charge port on either side of the forward cockpit seat (there's two seats, one in front of the other, with slightly different controls). In those charging ports are two white pistols with softly glowing blue lights.
In the engineering section
Once the group cycles through (leaving Scandalous to go poke around in the fighter), the group makes their way carefully to the engineering section.
The big container is where Dev left it.
TO DO :
Find an exterior airlock that the unit will fit out of
Navigate the bulky rad case to the airlock
Flush it out the airlock
Go out and return to the pinnace and go capture it
To do the first part, you need Recon checks, you can split up, or split into groups like before
Scandalous |
Scandalous stays focused on the cockpit. Malt turn to channel Scandal for an update. The telescreens in the Pinnace are flooded with images from the inside of the fighter. The fighter has a Pilot and co-pilot seat. What do you think? Can you help me figure out the controls? Do you think we can fly this out of here?
Omaltdoytsart Yuftro |
Malt looks at the displays, Hmm, possible. Let's see if we can work out the basics. If we manage this, do not engage life support. We don't have the appropriate facilities deal with opening the cockpit under high pressure differential.
Malt begins looking at the layout of the controls. Not knowing the language, he is looking for logical placement and for graphical readouts as a guide.
Pilot (Small Craft): 2d6 + 2 + 0 ⇒ (1, 4) + 2 + 0 = 7
Mechanic or Engineer (M-Drive) or Sensors: 2d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3, 5) + 2 + 1 = 11

@Team WET
Tam and Warren and EAVE manage to locate an exterior airlock about 10 minutes walk from Engineering that looks as if it's part of an engineering deck, designed to bring large components in. The fissionables will fit through it.
@Team JED
Glitch, Dev, and EAVE find an exterior airlock, but it's a man-sized one, which the fission pack won't fit through. It's possible they could have a drone open the fission package and push the fission pile out the airlock without the protective package.
@Team S&M
Malt looks at the feed, and it's quite obvious that one half of the cockpit is set up as a pilot with the other being a gunner, although both can handle both duties. Looking it over, Malt is not sure the craft could be more than moved with only two hands, the thruster and attitude controls are on multiple controls. Malt would not want to dog-fight with someone with the manual dexterity to control such a fighter, they'd likely be a highly maneuverable foe.
Scandalous |
Scandalous begins to wonder if she can use her telekinesis to bolster her handicap for not having four arms. Maybe we can test fly it, Malt. If it turns out to be the fighter is completely unmanageable, we can abandon it and have the Pinnace pick us up, What do you think?
Dev Vorn |
We hear you, over. The portal is too small for the package, over. We might have to extract the pile for the protective case to make it fit, or find another door, Over."
Dev scourers the shell of the ship, hoping to locate another exit point.
Recon: 2d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4, 1) + 1 + 1 = 7

I need 3 Difficult zero-g checks from Jenni to maneuver the heavy device to the airlock and get it out. These will take 10 minutes each. However, if she wants to take 30 minutes each, the roll drops to average, instead of difficult. You can mix and match that, but you must post that you want to mix and match it first, then do the rolls in a second post, and what order (IE: first two extra time, last one 10 minutes). Once you start, it's a difficult check to stop (as the package is in motion and is HEAVY, stopping it is hard). So you can't just do two checks, stop, and come back. Or rather, you can, but it's just as difficult as not doing the extra time. You have 90 minutes before your suits begin having issues.
mdt |
If you want, but then it would be : 30 minutes average check, 10 minutes difficult check (to get the 11.37 tons settled again). Then cycle, then 30 minutes average, 30 minutes average. Or, you could do 30 minutes average, 30 minutes average, 10 minutes difficult and be out the door. So I'm not sure doing a cycling gains you anything over going slow, slow, quick.
Scandalous |
Well, you could go cycle now, come back, and do slow/slow/slow if you like, but you'll need to do suit maintenance again before you can come back.
I get you have this detailed simulation in your head that we're not privy to, and are providing the most viable options based on that premise. I have no problem with it. I know how hard it is to type that much detail into random events.
You might not get that when I put :P at the end...it indicates I'm teasing you. I tend to do it because that's how friends behaved when I grew up. I said it because it was funny. However, if you feel any guilt for ruthlessly shooting my ideas down, along with my hopes and dreams, you could just add a +1 assist to the rolls :P
mdt |
If everyone is keeping their distance, then this will never get done, Jenni can't push 11.37 tons by herself, insufficient str to overcome inertia.
After the first roll, Jenni has miscalculated, and I need dex rolls from everyone to avoid being smeared (other than Malt/Scandalous that is)
???: 1d100 ⇒ 63
Dev Vorn |
Well without 0-G Dev unfortunately cannot assist, but he will be waiting to pluck it from space once it is free of the ship :-)
