Malt sits relaxed for some time, his wings idly twitching in beat to the music, then raises his head.

"I've had some thoughts on locating the remaining bays. We know the location of the bridge, and two of the small craft bays. Starship design go through fads and phases much like anything, but the major items don't change much."

"Five of the major races are bilaterally symmetrical, and their starship designs tend to be as well. With the location known of two of the bays, I think we can work out the location of the other two based on logic. If either is in a useful position, we can approach it from the outside, and work with maintenance panels to trigger an opening. From what the logs showed, this ship is mostly in mothball status, and the military safeguards have been disabled, so I don't expect the external maintenance panels to be locked down."

OK, when you are ready to do 'fast time' activities again

Note : Your food reduced by 36 man days worth in the last six days

Warren/Scandalous - Working up Translation
Linguistics (Edu) check : Difficult x 1 (Scandalous, +1 Bonus from Warren)

Warren/Scandalous can, once they make their checks, migrate over to assist with anything they qualify to help with for someone having issues

EAVE/Tam - Finding the Offline Bays
Investigation (Int) : Difficult x 1 (Tam)

Dev/Malt - Boat Bay repair/Pinnace Access
Recon (Int) : Average x 1 (Dev)
Mechanics (Dex) : Difficult x 3 (Dev, +1 Bonus from Malt) (ALready Done)
Piloting (Dex) : Difficult x 1 (Dev, +1 Bonus from Malt) (Already Done)

Dev only has to roll until he gets another Recon, he's already completed his other rolls successfully.

Each roll represents 2 days of work (except the piloting check, which represents one day of activity). Malt/Dev's 3 days of mechanics can be reduced to 2 days if at least 2 more people are able to join them on days 3-6.

Yes, you found the boat bay you were looking for, and you and Malt go to work refurbishing it. It'll take 3 days (or 2 days if two other people help)

EAVE watches Dev for a few moments, then turns her attention to Scandalous. She doesn't dance, or bop around, just stares. "Adequate, Citizen Scandalous. One day Scandalous could perhaps sing in a night lounge! BUT! Citizen Scandalous needs more drums, faster bass. More rhythm. Need mad beats to get down and boogie. Don't worry, EAVE will help Scandalous learn."

After the song, she bobs her head, "EAVE go rest now. Big day tomorrow! Many ducts. All the ducts!" she then skitters away from the dinner table, to dream of electric caprine.

Another day of work does the trick for everyone, and Scandalous begins helping Glitch with the programming.

Tam & EAVE finally track down a pair of repair bot bays, each bay looks like it was mothballed. The bays are a tight fit for Tam, but spacious for EAVE. Each bay has 20 repair bots sitting in their little stasis oil filled storage containers. Of the 40 total bots, Bay 1: 10 + 1d10 ⇒ 10 + (5) = 15 in bay 1 are in bays that are still sealed and report ready to activate, while Bay 2: 4 + 4d4 ⇒ 4 + (1, 4, 4, 4) = 17 in bay 2 are in bays that are still sealed and report ready to activate.

EAVE's new connector is ready to be installed by Glitch when she finishes programming an interface for it. Until that's done, reprogramming the bots would be problematic (to say the least!). However, they could be pulled from the pod in their bays (the bays are designed to be portable) and brought up to the boat bay that was found. That would take Tam a couple of days by herself (EAVE isn't really big enough to carry any).

With much trial-and-error, Jenni and Scandalous manipulate the code until it is just about there, but still a little buggy. "We've almost got it," Jenni says apologetically. "Next week, for sure. It's like that old programmer's ditty," she begins to sing, slightly off-key. "Ninety-nine little bugs in the code, ninety-nine little bugs. Take one out, squash it down, 4,390 bugs in the code."

Glitch shouldn't you be using EDU at +2, not that it would influence your current rolls.

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

"EAVE is equipped with administration software, but unequipped for selling hips that do not lie. Likely many legal issues that EAVE is unaware of. Many, many legal issues that are new in the previous decade. EAVE would only make a great manager."

Once the pair finally track down the repair bots, EAVE practically bounces with excitement. "We did it!" she shares as she quickly scans the pods. "Thirty-two! Very lucky! Once EAVE can talk with them, can teach them everything EAVE knows, and then will not need engineers to do little jobs and can instead focus on big jobs! Maintenance Symbiotes are the best!"

EAVE does not have an unfinished task that she can aid in above. Should she engage Hunter-Gather protocol? She may be able to dip below the surface of the lake to look for holes into the ship from the watery side. Do we think we'd find much of value in the portions exposed to the elements and waterlogged? Surely some things would be sealed, but the combination of 'can't carry a lot' and 'millenia of exposure' will limit that drastically. She could also do some fishing or plant gathering.

Darrian 7C7BE5

"Maybe not everything," Tam added hopefully to EAVE.

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

"Unranked Tam is right. Should not teach everything. Should teach other things, too. Perhaps Citizen Scandalous will aid EAVE in teaching them to sing?"

At the end of the second week :

Tam & EAVE have completed their missions successfully, and moved to helping others.

Warren and Scandalous have completed their missions successfully, and moved to helping others.

With the additional help, Malt and Dev finished refurbishing the landing bay, even restoring power to it, and adapting the fuel outlet to work with the pinnace.

36 more days of food down

As the group meets, they compare notes, and find that Glitch has another couple of days of work on the coding, and Dev needs to actually move the pinnace into the bay and lock it down so it can be refueled and maintenanced. There are maintenance tools in the bay, but they are not all useful for the pinnace due to differences in bolt structure and so on. Still, a day's work will have the pinnace refueled and maintained.

Following rolls need to be done!

Computer (Int) : Difficult x 1 (Glitch) 2 days : Program for EAVE

Electronics (Edu) : Average x 1 (Warren using Engineering or Dev using Electronics) 1 day : Add Glitch's modified interface unit to EAVE

"If we presume that inbreeding and possible long term mutagenic exposure is what destroyed the colonists, then we must presume they solved the issue of food. I'd suggest those who are skilled scouts look for the remains of farms, and see if we can find if any of the edibles have survived in the wild."

"My next priority, I think, is to locate the power plant, and see what might be available in the way of spare parts that can be adapted to our vessel's power plant. In fact, on a vessel this size, there may well be a machine shop which we could use to adapt parts or re-machine some of the broken parts we had thought useless"

While out scouting, Tam runs across some native animals.

A dog sized predator with sharp looking teeth that sprints away from her with speed that is astonishing

Some ostrich sized bird like reptiles that race along and snatch small four limbed creatures in mid leap into their mouths, snapping their bones and eating them whole.

By far, the largest predator she comes across is a massive white and red thing the size of a horse It follows her movements, even when she moves behind leaves and other brush, as if tracking her with something other than sight.

The largest creature overall are massive six legged herbivores that seem to live near the lake, but seem to avoid the ship and ruins.

Fortunately, nothing seems overly aggressive, although there are some odd disconnects in the creatures, most have six legs, some have 4, and some of the 'birds' have four wings and two legs, and others have two wings and two legs.

The only thing that's immediately identifiable as a 'farm' are three groves of trees that have the largest specimens planted too regularly to have been natural. Smaller specimens have grown up between them, but the large ones are almost exactly 3 meters apart, forming a large square.

Each type of tree has a thick spined fruit growing on it.

Darrian 7C7BE5

Tam carefully gathered a few of the pieces of thick spines fruit. "Best have Warren look these over," she says to herself as she made her way back to the alien ship.

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

"You're not EAVE's true father, Doctor Warren!" comes the response, there is much takking (and not the keyboard kind) as EAVE skitters around impatiently, though not moving much despite all the noise she's making with her legs.

That done and over with, and EAVE having been upgraded, she goes on the hunt. Which more likely comes out to be spear fishing.

EAVE finds that there is (maybe) some good fishing spots, but its current loadout isn't designed for fishing or for hunting (it not having any weapons or fishing skill). It also finds some more plants that might have been cultivated.

EAVE finds a small grove of plants that are 6 feet tall and look like banana trees, but have leafy globes that might be fruit

EAVE also finds a small grove of trees with blue tendrils dripping into the lake edge. The fish are slowly pulled up out of the water over about three minutes and then pulled into the plant. The tree itself is not seen anywhere except near where a small stream brings fresh water into the lake (and food for the fish) so could have been cultivated for some reason.

Finally, EAVE finds a walled off area with a roof over it made of steel. Struggling to enter the building through the old (rusted shut) door, it finally has to break down into smaller pieces to get inside through smaller openings.

Inside, the ice skating rink sized building in the woods is devoid of anything except a dirt floor and millions of small square red fruits that glow in the dark, quite obviously cultivated. In the few places where light comes through the walls and roof, there are no small glowing fruits. The largest of the fruits are about two centimeters square.

After two days of programming, and a day of hooking the Pinnace up and getting it refueled, the group is finally able to completely refuel the pinnace, and to get EAVE where it can access the ship's systems.

The computer is open, the security disabled, so she has full access to what is left of the computer, and the translation software to search.

I'm not going to type up a list of 3500 things that are in the manifest. So there's two ways we can do this. You can ask specifically for specific things you want to find. You can also, if you wish, do a Skill check to see if you find anything to help you with a specific task.

HP: 27/27 | AC: 21, Touch: 12, FF: 19 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Wil: +11 | CMB: +1 CMD: 13 | Perception +10(12) | Initiative: +6

Based on my preference, the list should be searched for: Tools and Items related to repairing one or both of the Rose or the Phoenix. Since the Phoenix can carry two Small craft, we should search for another small ship. Vacc Suits & maneuver gear. Medical bay technologies (bots and supplies), weapons, fissionable material, and food preservation equipment (turning current fresh food into packaged rations)

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

EAVE returns from her hunts and brings back a sample of the notbanana, and informs the group of the fishing tree, though she doesn't steal any of its fish - electrolytes were what plants crave, after all, while also bringing back bits and pieces of the red cubefruit. She lets the others know where the locations of these magical beings are, before setting up for her upgrade. She lies back and relaxes, and learns.

And then she uplinks herself to look through the centuries-old database!

She starts off by scanning for the obvious things that they needed on the list found here.

From there, she goes on to look for any form of weapons, software, and obvious hardware opportunities for herself and the pinnace. She also looks to see if any people may have been put into cold storage of some sort (as was the case for much of her crew).

"Does anyone else have any ideas for what they would like to find? EAVE is in."

HP: 27/27 | AC: 21, Touch: 12, FF: 19 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Wil: +11 | CMB: +1 CMD: 13 | Perception +10(12) | Initiative: +6

Can we now use the repair bots? Do you think that we can use them to collect and store the weapons grade fissionable material. Maybe we can use the material to fuel the Phoenix

EAVE searches the archive and finds :

hydraulic fluid replacement - There is hydraulic fluid on the list, but it would have passed it's 'best by' date a thousand years ago. However, the 'stasis fluid' which is used for storing equipment has a shelf life of about 10,000 years, and is noted as a secondary (not quite as good but workable) replacement for hydraulic fluid (it's slightly compressible, so will only give about 80% of the power normal fluid will, but would work in a pinch).

fission materials - There are no listed fissionable material outside nuclear weapons, which were jetisoned before the crash landing for safety reasons. The only ones that weren't were in the fighters in Bay 4, which were too damaged to approach. The fissionable material would have degraded by this time to the point of being dangerously radioactive, but not usable as fuel. Space Science (Physics) to determine how 'fresh' you'd need warheads to be to be useful

Water filtration, Electrolysis/Fuel Pump, Life Support Spare parts - There are three tons of life support parts listed in the cargo bay, in various containers.

jump and maneuver drives Spare Parts - There are 20 tons of spare parts in the cargo hold.

power plant Spare parts - There are 40 tons of spare parts in the cargo hold, but for fusion plants, not fission. Some of the parts may be useful though.

Wiring spare parts - There are 40 tons of various routine maintenance parts, wires, optical cables, blank circuits, lighting panels, etc.

J&M drive tools - There are tools listed in Engineering, as well as 1/4 ton of spares in the cargo hold.

EAVE checks the computer, and finds that all the small craft are out, other than the trashed and radioactive fighters Dev found. The survivors apparently used them until something happened to them.

Eave finds programs in storage for the repair bots, but they are incompatible with her own neural matrix. But they will make reprogramming the bots easier.

Ship weapons were either ejected (missiles) or burned out (energy weapons) as part of the purging done by the crew before the computer was reset.

There are no crew in cold sleep.

EAVE doesnt' find any obvious upgrades for herself (primarily due to the incompatibility in hardware/software). As far as personal weapons, those are listed as having been dumped in space as well (the stores in the cargo hold anyway). There may be some weapons left in the armory, but the crew likley used those to clear the area.

There is 2 tons of survival equipment for planetary use, which might include some food processing equipment.

Vacc suits & maneuver packs? Medical supplies/tech?

Scandalous listens as EAVE relays the information. It sounds to me that focusing on the repair of the Rose would be better than focusing on the Phoenix.

What rolls would be needed to set up a food processing station?

@Scandalous - Survival Average, Engineer (Electronics) Average, or Mechanic Difficult

There are 20 'general purpose' vacc suits in storage, each would require an Vacc Suit Difficult check to fit to a user (or an average Battledress check). Assuming they are still in good shape.

There are 20 maneuvering packs also in storage, requiring Mechanic Average to get working again (by cannibalizing others in storage).

The group will need to make 4 Mechanic (Difficult) checks and two Engineer (Power Plant) Average checks to get the lift working from the cargo deck to the landing bay the pinnace is in. Or they'll have to carry parts up manually. You'll also need to make str checks to move the cargo pods, or, alternately, spend two days and make 4 more Mechanic (Difficult) and one Computer (Average) checks to get the loading bots working again.

Scandalous fidgets a bit, knowing she doesn't have the skill and knowledge of the others to make the infrastructure they need. However, she did understand logistically what they needed to do. There seems to be plenty of food here that we can exploit, but we would need to make it portable and safe. Anyone know how to set up the food processing equipment?

While the idea of using a space suit chills her to her core, she knew it was absolutely necessary for any salvage operation in space. We should at least check the vacc suits and maneuvering packs. She addresses Tam. You seem to be the expert. Do you think you can help fit everyone who doesn't have one with a suit?

Tam enjoyed some success with the two humanoid males but was utterly flustered with Scandalous and Glitch's curves. She threw down her tools in frustration trying to figure out what to do for Malt.

Do the failed attempts destroy the suits?

Yes, but you have 20. None of them will fit Malt, so no need to roll for him. You can make up to 10 attempts before you run out of parts/etc that are functional. You've made 4, so have 6 left to get Glitch and Scandalous

Tam remeasured the two females and gave it another try. Pleased with her results she sows them to the others.

I can't make heads or tails of the processing equipment Dr. Connery. Can you set up the equipment before we go harvesting?

Jenni looked over the suit that Tam had modified for her and smiled gratefully. She would never have been able to modify the outfit and was glad that Tam was along to do so.

"Let me take a look," Jenni suggests when Scandalous asks Dr. Connery to examine the settings.

Scandalous follows Dev around asking questions, while giving a hand when he requests.

Warren and Jenni spend a day getting the survival equipment set up that will turn food into MRE packets. THe results won't taste as good as the original food, but it will stay fresh for up to a year.

It's now set up in the Pinnace. I assume that's where you'd want to set it up for

Dev (And likely Malt) spend two days getting the lift and robot working again, so that they can load cargo into the pinnace. The Pinnace can hold up to 23 tons of cargo. The Pinnace is also fully refueled (2 weeks operational time).

What are your priorities on what to bring back? Which ship are you going to try to get working? Are you going to search the debris field for fissionables or give up on the Phoenix? Warren still needs to examine the plants to ensure they are edible (or Scandalous will need to feed some to her pet, although that only helps the humans, not the Darrians and Droyne).

Here are my thoughts on it. While I personally would love to have the Phoenix as our starting vessel, It seems better to me to focus on the Rose based on the 'Bird in the Hand' theory. Based on the assumption that the repair bots can move in zero-g, I believe we should at least try and harvest some fissionable material from orbit while working on the Rose. If we do find some fuel for the Phoenix, I think we should have a discussion on whether to switch repair priorities. Since we now have virtually unlimited food, water and fuel, We have the time to change repairs from the Rose to the Phoenix if we want.
