I dun get it :P
Violet is Disney Alice in this scenario, whilst Pulse is McGee's. :P

Hotaru Hoshiko |

So you're Alice + Drugs and I'm Alice - Drugs?

mdt |

If you look through the link she sent, there's a comic called 'Throwdown in Disney World' or something like that.
There's an internet thing over the differences between the original Alice (sweetish, friendly) and American McGee's Alice (mind broken psychopath with a knife and bloody clothes).
In the comic, the two go to Disneyworld, and the stuck up Princesses attack 'Good' Alice for not being a princess, and 'Bad' Alice beats them to a pulp and rips some of their followers apart.
The two Alice's then share bloody churros and walk off into the sunset as friends.

As a follow up to that, I personally thought Violet was Both Disney Alice and McGee Alice. I had this mental image of a purple haired girl on Violet's shoulder, telling her that everything was ok, and she should trust her friends. And on the other shoulder, was a bloody purple haired girl with a scythe whispering that everything was ok, and she should kill people who were trying to make it not ok, and her friends should make sure they weren't in the latter group. Then the 'good' Violet kind of looked thoughtful, and nodded that she could live with that.
Then a nurse Violet ran up and shoved a pill down both the 'Good' Violet and the 'Bad' Violet's mouths, and they both looked friendly and happy, and the nurse Violet wiped sweat off her brow...

Project Violet |

That's....
Not far off.
You guys don't see a lot of the internal monologues Violet has with herself, as I don't wish to monopolize the stage with my character's internal struggles.

mdt |

You should totally do a 3d render of Violet, with 'Good' Violet and 'Bad' Violet on her shoulder, and Nurse Violet leaping toward them with hamburger sized pills in each hand. :)

Project Violet |

Okay, costume votes for Violet - nothing rendered because I'm working on NaNoWriMo (anyone want to beta read when I'm done? Book two of three!) and don't have time to spend rendering stuff up, or sketching.
SO!
Something along the lines of one of the following?
(1) An analog of Original Costume Psylocke, without the weird poofs on the legs? Maybe add a skirt and boots to the overall bodysuit look?
(2) High-necked long sleeved bodysuit (purple) with black skirt and jacket (leather), leggings (purple) and boots (black).
(3) Full "they won't be looking at your face" Goblin Queen getup - corset, Opera Gloves thigh-high boots, high-cut briefs, cape. Lots of cleavage and not a lot of weather protection.
All of these would have either the group symbol (if we have one) emblazoned somewhere on them, and would include either a hood (modified from her Infinity Scarf) or a cowl/mask setup.

Hotaru Hoshiko |

I know you said 'original' psylocke but...

Project Violet |

Yes, the non-angsty, fabulously British, non-body-swapped, non-retconned, Mojo-Cyber-Eye-Implants, Psychic Schoolmarm outfit.
Only without the leg poofs and maybe with a skirt to reduce any and all instances of unintentional fan-service camel-whatsits. And boots. Because boots are good for keeping your toes from getting crushed in those weird footie pajama bodystockings of theirs.

Hotaru Hoshiko |

Before I set up with Pulse's costume, does clothing interfere with her radar, assuming it's not like... made of metal? :P I don't want a hoodie if we're dealing with the spider girl debacle of limited vision :P

mdt |

If it's 360 degree, then yes, anything that would halt radar interferes with it. You'd want to pick something that's transparent to radar (not a lot). If it's directional, then a hoodie is fine, as you can turn your face to change facings.

Hotaru Hoshiko |

It was bought 'down' to 240 to make it more affordable at the time.
Also... from what I've read 'invisible to radar' is more a misnomer, in that it's more 'it doesn't bounce radar back and instead diffuses it in various ways' for the most part. Some glasses or plastics seem to work but it's hit or miss.
So, if I bought a costume, I'd need to buy 'invisible to radar' or add indirect to my radar with the 'defined origin point' of a few inches off her skin, yeah?
Would I be able to use Cling to attach a Ferrofluid to her like Venom? :)

Project Violet |

Unrelated to the game, anyone want to alpha/beta read the first two novels in my cyberpunk adventure series?
I'm going to be shopping them to agents real soon, here, and I'd love to get some feedback from people I don't interact with every day in the meat world.

Hotaru Hoshiko |

I'm a terribly slow reader and have a backlog of things I'd really like to read like 30 books long. I'm really contemplating just getting audible so I can 'read' in the car and on weekends at work.

Project Violet |

I'll always take rational, constructive criticism.
"Brutal" criticism that's constructive and well reasoned, I can readily take. If it's just rough for the sake of being rough, which I don't think is what you mean, I tend to just ignore.
Basically, yes, I can handle being given hard-reality criticism if it's constructive. ;)

"Mud" Adam Storn |

I have to leave in 36 hours on a business trip where I won't have access to the Internet. I'll return about this time in a week. So, I'll RP until I go. Then, please DMPC me.
cheers

Project Violet |

By the way, SF Bay Area people, the Dickens Christmas Fair is running for two more weekends!
I'll be there both of them if anyone wants to hang out!

I actually might go to Dickens Fair with some friends next weekend! Will follow up if I do.

YASSS. DOO EET.
I'm "Chronopunk" on Instagram if you care to see some of the swanky togs my friends and I have been sporting at Dickens these last few weeks.
Also, any further votes on Violet's costume?
Speak now, or it's Modified Classic Psylocke With Hood And Cape or Goblin Queen, one or the other, nothing in between.
Although a Female Jareth "Goblin Queen" could be so very, very meta.

Project Violet |

Two weekends left!
Get on it!
I'll make sure to drag Blaze's player along as well!

The Rocket |

Hehehehehehe, it's fun that so many of us are in the Bay Area--that's not true for any of my other games--and I've talked about going before...but I'm writing this from on an airplane, flying home from three weeks away, and I suspect the next few weekends'll be busy with family.

Project Violet |

Ya know, my Monday night group has two open spots that, if the two people who asked for space in the group don't show up tonight or next week, will be up for grabs. ;)

Janice "Snapdragon" Li |

Haha I get it now. She said something about the wind, and pain, then told me I was very green. That's about the extent of what I understand from being a biologist.

mdt |

For the curious OOC
Roughly :
Do not move, you could hurt yourself!
No spiderman, too green, too female!
Next time, you should learn to use parachute before jumping out of airplane...
Greek Super-Hero

mdt |

Just in case you are wondering how Tongue of Babyl works...
It's a megasized cumulative transform with a does not affect people with mental defense, cured by leaving ongoing area of effect. The transform is 'transform humanoids to self same humanoid but with all languages transformed to Babyl'. Stacked on it is a side effect suppression of all ranged telepathic powers, 60 pts static effect.

Hotaru Hoshiko |

Is our other greekherofriend's disabilities all pretty much 'is 40 foot snake-woman'? Because that just sounds awesome. :P

Janice "Snapdragon" Li |

Err so uh... I have mental defense too, in buckets. Is that something I can turn off?

mdt |

Nope, doesn't matter if it's on or off, it just doesn't work on you. So they are talking gibberish as far as Janice is concerned.
Note, if you only have it in one form, and it's not your current form, that doesn't count. But if you have it in your current form, you are unaffected by the light. If you switch to a form that *doesn't* have mental defense, you'd be affected.

Hotaru Hoshiko |

Giant snake woman is who I'm referring to :P
Cause you can get a -lot- of Disads out of 'pretty much giant snake monster' I'd think. :P

Janice "Snapdragon" Li |

I've got mental resistance in every form—just one form kicks it up really really high.
I guess this is the downside to distributed cellular intelligence.
EDIT: Also curious about whether my character's paranoia surrounding this mission is justified or not, but i guess we'll find out soon.

Project Violet |

Good grief, we're outclassed.
This should be fun. :)

Not really, you're just seeing everything from low-power people to much higher power people all in one area.
Madam Naga is just a big brick (a bit weaker than you).
The Elemental trio are a more powerful than you.
The woman throwing cars is a big brick (about your power level).
The person building the bridge is WAY above your level.
The two brits with the bus are on your level.
They didn't bring anyone who was too new or too weak. So most of them are your level or higher.
The mentalist doing the Babel power is about your power level, but with only one major ability (Babel).

Janice "Snapdragon" Li |

Welp, looks like we met a pantheon.

mdt |

Project Violet |

It's all good, boss.

mdt |

Just to re-iterate for Violet, the suppression of mental powers only works on those 30 points or less. Normally, because the the power doesn't work on people with mental defense, Violet's Mind Link wouldn't get suppressed. However, because it's area of effect, when the mind link leaves her body, it get's suppressed. The suppression only works on mind powers with inherent telepathy (most powers, such as mind control, etc, inherently have telepathy unless bought with limitations to remove it). Flight with special effect TK and Telekinesis are unaffected (no telepathy).
So all of her powers work normally if they're higher active points than 30 (which I believe is everything but the mind link) or have no telepathic power inherent in them.

Project Violet |

Yeah, that's what I was gathering from your description of it in-game.
The Mind Link is 20 AP so it's easily suppressed, though she's still going to keep it active with Rocket as long as she can. Being able to keep in touch with at least one other PC is going to be critical, I can feel it.
Also, MDT I wanted to clarify how you're running Universal Translator - normally it allows for understanding/speaking/reading as long as the roll is made. Violet believe that she can't read anything in a foreign language that she doesn't already know because that's what she was inadvertently taught as a child - "You shouldn't be able to do that" goes a long way with a telepathic wunderkind who only wants to please her elders. Obviously at some point she'll figure out (just like with her flight) that that's not the case, and then it'll be all kinds of weird and awesome for her.
Are you working it that way? I ask because if Pulse were to, say, grab the GNU licensed versions of something like Google Translate and stick it in her brain, would you allow her to run spontaneous back and forth translation with it? (I'm looking forward for the group and trying to figure out ways of making us more responsive and adaptive to this sort of thing)
I also ask because it's a STOP power and therefore open to GM alterations.

mdt |

The way I usually handle UT is that as long as you make your roll, you can be understood and understand general things. Basically, you have casual conversation (as if you had a 1 in a language) without any further rolls (I usually don't bother with rolls for simple every day conversation like 'where is the bathroom', 'do you serve spaghettie bolognaise' (kudos to anyone who gets that reference), 'my pants are on fire, can you throw water on them?', that sort of thing).
However, if you start getting complex/technical (describing how to mix paint to get Maudlin Blue, or how to repair a computer, or trying to explain why people vote for Trump) then you'll need to make rolls over and over againt to be understood/understand/read.
One thing you can't do is write in a foreign language with it. Additionally, I reservet he right to make some languages not work with it (COBOL, FORTRAN, alien tentacle monster language, pheremone based, etc). The more complex the language is, the less likely you'll be able to understand.

Janice "Snapdragon" Li |

Ooh! Does that mean if I write things in English, Pulse will understand them?

The Rocket |

Hmmm, how does it work exactly?
Can Pulse (and others on the team who're affected by Babel) no longer read English books/posters/etc?
(I assume they can't, because if they still *can* read English street signs, why couldn't they read what Snap writes?)

mdt |

I'm fairly certain I described things earlier to those who were affected as 'surrounded by gibberish' on the buildings.
Although I should probably point out that the local buildings do not have english signs for the most part, given it's not the native language here. :)
