Yeah, his consistency has gotten better a lot in the last couple of years. I've actually commissioned him to do work for my no-profit Mekton Zeta mini-adventures for my RPG small press, back when I still had time to produce content for it.
Now, though, with the Dayjob being such a PITA...
Ah well.
At least I'll have a character study. :)
Hotaru Hoshiko
I know of the 'Psychology' version of character study, but don't know what you mean in this instance. :)
Project Violet
An image or series of images designed to show off the character in one or more aspects of their story.
For instance this old piece of a rogue from a D&D game I played in some time back (there are others on the gallery, but... some are nsfw, so you get this one...).
This sort of thing. :)
Hotaru Hoshiko
Ah, alrighty. :)
Project Violet
I'd like to wish you all a Merry Saint Turkeymas (as last night was the Feast Of Saint Turkeymas Eve), and hope that everyone's doing well.
I'd also like to relay a humorous story from my lunch at the neighborhood diner, from Wednesday.
So I go in to get my French Dip and fries (no pickle), iced tea... the usual.
If you're ever in Milpitas, CA, go to Mil's Diner on the corner of Abbott and Calaveras, they are amazing.
Second Favorite Waitress asks me how the novel is going, because she knows I'm writing a novel for November (both because I need to write another novel and get it out there in hopes of getting a contract oh please oh please, and because it's NaNoWriMo, so I figure why not combine the two?). I tell her pretty well, that I broke the 50k word mark on the 18th, and now I'm continuing and making myself do at least a thousand words a day, every day.
She asks what it's about, so I inform her it's about two 20-somethings that become infected with a strange virus that gives them the ability to absorb and redirect electromagnetic energy, and unlike others infected with it, also to view and alter the lines of probability around them.
I tell her that there are two protagonists, one male and one female, and how I am giving the female protagonist a wider variety of supporting cast, almost all of which are women, and all of whom are her friends.
She smiles at me and says "So which one's the b****?"
I explained that none of them are "the b@&+*," and instead I'm trying to base them on women I actually know, with all their own faults, foibles, and flaws, but also with their own strengths and personalities, their prides and their talents.
She said every book she's read with more than one woman in it has had at least one "mandatory b%*@~" as one of the support crew, the friend who secretly drags everyone down but is always forgiven. The "it works out in the end" friend.
I said I'd rather have that sort of role played by a villain, not someone who's supposed to be supporting the protagonist.
The look on her face made me very happy, because it showed me that she was excited at that concept.
Felt good.
And that is my story.

Vi--cool story. Good luck with NaNoWriMo!
All--sorry, been busy with family over the long weekend and now busy with a mix of work, family, and finishing reading a book for my SF book group. I'll post today though!
Hotaru Hoshiko
Hm, looks like my reply to Turkeymas never sent. I'm not really a huge fan of Thanksgiving. I'd rather just have a normal meal or go out to eat. :P
I've also found that most people do have that jerk of a friend. It doesn't have to be a woman, though. Hence why the books tend to have them. :)

Sorry I've gotten a little lost on the time frame, We all piled in the bus to go to the hospital then violet and rocket went in got the intel
Then they went to a restaurant alone while we went to the arc?
Whippoorwill
I think so?
If anyone has the Streetwise skill, you get a +1 from my guidance, since we've got a vague description of this blonde that Richie apparently saw before getting iced.
Maybe I can drape a blanket over my wings and then lean out the window of the bus to ask around.
Hotaru Hoshiko
Not a problem, kitty. We'll be here. :) I still have plenty of interest in Pulse and the RP. :)
Project Violet

I was under the impression that you guys were on your way to the Arch without us while we gathered the intel, since you could be out there looking for clues while Violet went braindiving.
Since we were already separated, Violet felt it useful to sit down and gather all the images and thoughts into a cohesive whole before coming back to the group (otherwise it'd just be "So here are all the impressions I got").
Right now, she's sending Rocket back to the team with a drawing of the blonde and a full version of what she saw.
Saffron "Aegis" Sinclair
For some reason I was under the impression we were waiting for you guys to finish at the hospital and return to the bus guess I misread my bad.
If we went to the arc while you were at the hospital that's fine.
Also np MDT see you when things cool down.
Project Violet
I could be wrong! (and I frequently am)
If I am, I am and we can go back to the bus (and get food on the way).
And yeah, MDT, take your time. Do what you gotta.
The Rocket
I think it was ambiguous but reasonable to have y'all wait outside, and it sounds like that's what most of y'all thought so let's just retcon it. We'll get our Italian food to go (with extra for y'all) and say we're back in the bus to plan together.
Hotaru Hoshiko
I'd really like to make an unusual lasagna at some point. My mom makes an amazing one that her mother taught her how to make, but I'd really be interested in trying to mix it up quite a bit. Use some really unusual ingredients, and wind up with something 'special', even if it is less delicious. :)
mdt
Instead of using ricotta cheese use goat cheese. Gives it a really good tangy flavor, and the goat cheese has a very smooth consistency without turning runny or leaking grease.
Hotaru Hoshiko
Could be nice. She likes goat cheese, I've never had it. :)

Works for me.
Also, if we order a huge pile of food to go, no one has to know that half the bags are for Rocket.

Ex-ACT-ly!!
I was thinking that he's going to get some stares eating three entrees at a restaurant.
Project Violet
Violet's answer for anyone who looked at them oddly would be "He's in training." ;)
Hotaru Hoshiko
I'm not sure Hotaru could be in this particular scene, either. Given that they likely ID folks as well, maybe?
I was originally going to try to post something because I just thought 'Restaurant', but just wanted to make sure it fit.
Hotaru Hoshiko
Further possible questions you might ask before leaving: 'Who picked up the tab', 'Did they have any food with their booze', 'Did they buy any booze to go', and 'How affected were the pair by the time they left?'.
The Rocket
oooooh, the tab! I think we've already heard that the Russian girl was buying.
I wonder if they could find her name, if she paid by credit card.
Project Violet
Who's to say they'd even give that to us?
Do we have someone with a PI license or legal powers who can get one?
I could mind control them to give us the information, but they'd know I'd done it. My mental powers don't have Invisible Power Effects. :(
Hotaru Hoshiko
:p well -we- don't know she was buying... maybe you two do :p
Whippoorwill
Can I get a description of the current layout? Are we all in the bus? If not, who's in, who's out, and what can those of us in the bus see? Are we parked in the street, or driving around the block over and over? Time of day? How crowded is it? Are we very close to the arch, or still some distance away?
Saffron "Aegis" Sinclair
Aegis and Violet are the only ones that can enter the bar if they are carding Aegis to my understanding is asking questions but she's pretty much done since the waiter doesn't seem to want to help and she hates bars
Hotaru Hoshiko
Heading out to face to face. :) Assume Hotaru will do whatever Aegis says.
Hotaru Hoshiko
Taru is home! Roleplay session went quite well! :)
Project Violet
Wow, my Teep rolls have been crap, lately. :\
Hotaru Hoshiko
Out of curiosity, what sort of skill is required to recognize a person's accent? I can see mimicry being able to complement such a skill, but aside from something like 'KS Linguistics', I'm not really sure.
Hotaru Hoshiko
Works for me!

Hey mdt...not that I think we might end up in combat anytime soon...but wanted to makes sure you remember I'm still waiting on my latest character sheet.
Project Violet
For those concerned that Goo failed his Stealth roll, remember that he has Shrinking, which gives other people a -8 to perceive him.
So even though he technically flubbed the roll by 3, he's still at a net +5 effective bonus to his roll. Or a net -5 effective penalty to theirs.
Ultimately it's MDT's call, but don't count our goopy ninja out of the game yet. :)
Saffron "Aegis" Sinclair
Note for IC by now pretty much everyone would know at least Aegis's real name.
I pictured her being used to people knowing her name which is why I didn't have her say anything about Violet calling her by her real name plus she likely put at least her last name on the business.
TL;DR Aegis doesn't really care about keeping her ID from the party so you can decide how much you want to know about her
also later on likely -way- later on if it's reasonable in the story would it be possible for Aegis to take over her father's company Via passed down or company take over? If so I think I'll wait till that happens to bump Aegis's money up to max
Whippoorwill
I know Briana's been revealed, but I've always used the other players' code names, since I don't recall who's shared their secret identity and who hasn't.
Project Violet
Violet's initial slip was due to her anxiousness to get on everyone's good side. She's read a lot of books that say that talking to people and using their first names when possible helps build a rapport.
Now that everyone's living in the same place (and it isn't five stories under ground), it's even more important for her to have some semblance of a normal life, so everyone better expect personalized nameplates or cute stationary or something.
I swear her saccharine nature comes from the heart. :)
Hotaru Hoshiko
Hotaru explicitly -wouldn't- share her Secret Identity. It wouldn't be too hard for anyone to find her, I'm sure (given social networking existing), but she's firmly on Team Cap. In her case, she thinks the mask is for the people you care about (This is highly influenced by what happened when Spidey took off the mask.)
Hotaru Hoshiko
Get well soon, kittyface.
Saffron "Aegis" Sinclair
See you when you get better
