Ahiko |

Ahiko replaces the ward hex on Kali, hoping to protect her from the next hit and its effects. (+2 ac, +2 saves)

Vermundr |

Vermundr holds his bow at the ready.
"Drag it out here", he barks.

Kalistrine |

Looking more and more weak from the Wight's attacks, Kalistrine is unwilling to give up just yet, and while slightly slower and less fierce, she continues to attack, ignoring Vermundr.

Takeshi, in desperation to help his drained ally, lashes out with his electrified katana once again, channeling his arcane power in order to guide it's blade.

Vermunder sags a bit when he lowers his bow but shakes his head when he sees Kalistrine is even worse off.
Is there more on this floor that we haven't checked out?

"This helm is the dragon helm traditionally worn by the lord of Brinewall Castle. Perhaps this undead creature was what remained of the last lord of the castle. Does this mean we are getting close to our goal of finding this vault we seek?"

Vermundr |

”I hope so”, Vermundr answers. ”Whatever that thing did to me feels worse than the morning after a bottle of orcish rotgut.”

Vermundr |

Vermundr takes up a position twenty feet back and points at the archway.
”Let’s check out that area after everyone’s patched up.”

Ahiko |

"I'm sorry I cannot restore all that's been lost, but I can heal your physical wounds." She pulls out her wand and touches Vermundr with it.

"WHo else has wounds that need healing?"

GMEDWIN |

The officer’s desk and the chairs that once decorated this
room lie in shambles on the floor. A flight of stairs leads up to
the southeast. The battered door to this room hangs askew,
revealing a short hallway beyond.
Perception DC 15
scattered and hastily written notes among the desk’s
shambles, one of which is part of a letter mentioning an
attack on Brinewall Castle. The letter describes the attack
as a night assault by men dressed in dark robes. The letter
is unfinished and contains no further information.

Ahiko |

perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Ahiko barely notices some notes on the desk and takes a closer look, examining them in some detail. "There is a letter here. It speaks of an attack on the castle by dark robed men... Perhaps that is what killed the prior lord... it seems that is where the letter stops suddenly."
"Someone with the skill to use such a weapon should take the wight's sword - it looks to be of exceptional value."

Ahiko |

Ahiko quickly casts a detect magic on the sword as she speaks of it.

The sword is magical.
You can backtrack to the main hall where there are couple door you haven't gone through, go up the stairs, or go down the stairs in the room before. Perception 5

Vermundr |

Vermundr points at the stairs.
"I think those go to a different part of the basement. Let's try them."

GMEDWIN |

The stairs from the donhjon lead down to an iron portcullis barring passage into the room beyond— the bars themselves are sunken deep into
the floor and ceiling, with no obvious method of passing into the chamber beyond.
Perception DC 20
circular depressions in the walls to the left and right of the
portcullis, faintly inscribed with an image of the sun (to the
left) and the moon (to the right).

Ahiko |

perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
"Look at these depressions in the wall... do you think they might correspond with those totems we found earlier? Perhaps if we match them up and put one in each niche, the bars will open?"

Vermundr |

"It's worth a shot. Give me one of them and we'll put them in at the same time."

Ahiko |

I'm not sure who's carrying the other one, but I think Ahiko has the moon one.... on the assumption that the other one is produced and given to Vermundr...
Ahiko waits until Vermundr is ready, "On three, we put them in at the same time, yes?.... one ... two... three..." and on three, she slips hers into the moon niche.

Kalistrine |

Kalistrine sags and groans with pain as her rage fades. She kicks the bones of the old lord of the castle with a curse. "Give me a minute to catch my breath." she says.
While the others search the room, Kalistrine leans against the door frame, and she looks with interest on the Lord's sword.
It occurs to me that we have a bunch of loot we haven't distributed, including a +1 Returning Starknife, +1 Light Fortification Light Shield, +1 Cold Iron Morningstar, Ring of the Ram with 10 Charges, a Pearl of Power 1, and a Circlet of Persuasion. Does anyone want to select any of these? Ahiko is the obvious choice for the Pearl. Kalistrine will take the longsword for now.

Ahiko |

Ahiko would love the Pearl

Vermundr |

Vermundr wouldn't mind the circlet but it isn't super important to him.

GMEDWIN |

Takeshi has the pearl of power
Placing the two Brinewall crests into the proper slots
causes the iron bars of the portcullis to slowly grind down
into the ground.
The walls of this room are of smooth stone, spattered with
ancient bloodstains and deep, violent gouges. Deep drifts of
dust lie on the floor, while immense stone doors hang open to
the southwest, revealing empty vaults beyond.
As the portcullis lowers inside this room,
the dust on the floor swirls into the air, coalescing into an ominous shadowy form that takes on the ghostly image of an old but handsome Tian man. The spirit adopts a defensive pose, his katana held before
him menacingly.
DC 25 Perception for Kalistrine or Ahiko/ for Takeshi DC 7

Ahiko |

perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Takeshi can use the pearl as well if not better than Ahiko, so that's fine
"This is Ameiko's... grandfather?... based on the descriptions she gave. Does he guard what lies within?" She speaks these words to the others who might not recognize the wraith form.
To the wraith himself, she says, "We come seeking that which will cure Ameiko, your descendant and heir, from the affliction that besets her... Please allow us to pass as we come on this errand to help your family."

Takeshi Kaijitsu |
- Male human (Tien) Magus (Kensai) 4

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Takeshi's eyes grow wide as he recognizes the wraith from paintings he had seen when he lived with his parents. "... Sofu Kaijitsu?" he asks hesitantly in Tien.

Takeshi Kaijitsu |
- Male human (Tien) Magus (Kensai) 4

Takeshi spares a quick glance at Kalistrine before returning his gaze to the wraith. "Only from the painting that hangs in the dining room of the family estate. I've seen it many times when I lived there as a child. He is... was... my grandfather, Rokuro Kaijitsu."

GMEDWIN |

The wraith’s eyes bulge and he freezes motionless. He lowers his sword, then says in a mournful voice in Common: “I... know... this...
naaaaaammmmmeeeeee...” A moment later, he raises
his arms and cries out in anguish, then turns to face you tears of dust running down his incorporeal cheeks.
He says, “Grandson, take the Seal away from here—take it to my
child—it is no longer safe—and I am no longer worthy of
guarding it...”
The wraith points toward the wall to the left as it does this, then with another agonized cry, flies apart into dust and is destroyed.

Vermundr |

Vermundr lowers his bow, not entirely sure what’s just happened.
”What was that about Takeshi?”

Ahiko |

Ahiko looks from the image of the wraith-that-was to Takeshi, then to the wall to the left.... she examines it closely to see if there is some secret door or passage there.

"So... according to my... grandfather... there is a Seal hidden away in this room. Presumably in one of these chests," Takeshi says as he approaches the darkwood chests.
"I don't understand why he would want us to bring the Seal to father... I doubt he'd be interested in it at all. Hopefully Ameiko will be better when we get back with it. She'll know what to do," he then uses his sheathed blade to nudge each chest. Would grandfather be guarding trapped chests? And not mention the traps when given the chance? Hmmm... Unlikely... he shrugs and then tries to open them.

Vermundr |

Just to be safe, Vermundr checks out the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Kalistrine |

Kalistrine smirks. "More presents for the Prince and Princess of Sandpoint." she says, sheathing the sword. She stands guard while the others search.

GMEDWIN |

Takeshi taps the left chest and finds that it is locked and then the right chest where it also seems to not to budge. As Takeshi starts to despair before touching the third and middle chest with his sheathed Katana, he can feel his destiny is coming to fruition as he softly taps the middle chest and it pops open.
In the center of the chest lies a three tiered tian-style box made from teak in an ornate tian dragon design in orange.
