Are [Spoiler] really an 11 Point Buy?

Just got copy of AA2 and was skimming through the new PC races. I came across this...

AA2 Spoiler:
Orcs have a racial feature that says the following, with emphasis added...

Conditioned Focus: Due to her conditioning, an orc can choose one skill that becomes a class skill for her. If the chosen skill is a class skill from the class she takes at 1st level, she instead gains a +1 bonus to checks with that skill. She also receives an adjustment of +1 to the ability score associated with the chosen skill. In addition, due to her confidence with that skill, once per day, before she attempts a check with the chosen skill, the orc can grant herself a +2 bonus to that check.

That makes it look like *spoiler* is an 11 point buy race, capable of ending up with all even abilities at level 1. They're already a really solid option for melee. Just curious if the above line was intentional or not.

Seems like it should be +1 too ability checks with the associated ability.

But, 11 point buy isn't that game breaking, the +4 adjustment races are already probably starting at 18,16,11,10,10,10 instead of 18/14.

Is the orc a +4 race? If so, that might be a little too good.

+4 strength -2 cha, so this would be +4 strength +2 any stat(when combined with theme) -2 cha, so effectively +4 instead of +2 net. There's more broken racial abilities out there but this is pretty powerful.

The penalty is in charisma so its an effective +6...

Charisma? WHeeeeeeee

This is actually very good. You can make an 18 STR 18 DEX soldier, you can do any 18/18 as long as one is STR, and the other is not charisma.

That IS too good. I'm going with +1 to ability checks with the chosen skill's attribute for a house rule until we see an answer.

You can also do a 14 Str/14 Dex/16 Cha Solarian with all 10s in the other stats, or a 14/14/18 or 14/16/16 Mystic, Mechanic, or Technomancer.

I mean, that's not 'broken' in the sense that it fundamentally alters game play, but it's better than literally anyone else can do and you never need worry about the dreaded 17 in a stat anywhere.

Avoiding that damned odd number will be a very big draw.

.. and in a blink of an eye they went from a race whispered about but rarely seen to ZOMG where did all these Orks come from! lol

its a pretty strong racial option, one of the best and most min-maxable for sure if this is written as intended.

Do Orcs have any other special abilities (besides darkvision) that have not yet been mentioned in the Alien Archive 2 thread?

Expect that line of that ability to be FAQ'ed away.

You could just do 11 point buy as your homebrew.

Reminds me of my players, who were quick to abuse the cuttlefish strength boost.

When I told them about the devs clarifying that it should not allow over an 18 at 1st level, they all countered with "but re not official errata." *rolls eyes*

I can see it now: Do you have Diplomacy? Nope, I dumped Charisma. How about you? No, I also dumped Charisma. Ok, I guess I'll roll my d20 minus 1.

SFS party of Melee Soldier Orcs proceeds to make all the NPCs mad at them.

I truly believe, with all of my heart, that RD already has an orc Envoy built. And it did not dump charisma.

So.. an SFS session? :)

I'm probably biased as I'm generally the one bringing diplomacy in SFS (and PFS), so I don't see this problem often.

And I'm all for Orc Envoys. My highest level character in PFS is a Half-Orc Skald who started with 16 Charisma.
