I came very close to running Iron Gods a few months back, some strong interest for it but the polls I took of interested players had it come in 4th place.
The other day I was thinking about a Pathfinder game that was themed somewhat like an old western with some "law" men cleaning up a criminal element. Not men necessarily connected to a government but seeing a problem and stepping in to do some good.
Any interest in an All Gunslingers game out there utilizing the Iron Gods AP?

hm.... I had actually been toying with the idea of trying my hand at running Iron Gods myself (would be my first time in the DM seat, so a tad wary) but this sounds like a better idea. Color me interested, caveats being:
1) Played through most of Fires once before.
2) Own whole thing and read some of the synapsis.
Pretty good about separating IC knowledge and what I know, so shouldn't be an issue. Beyond gunslingers being required, what stipulations would you have if this got enough interest?

An interesting idea thematically to be sure; one thing I will say though, is that in terms of first party Pathfinder there is essentially just one way to build a gunslinger. Four DPR machines that contribute basically nothing else makes for very dull and clunky combats in my experience.
Spheres of Might might be worth a look; I've played with it before with great success, you can get a lot more build variety out of your martial characters with it. Something worth considering at least.

*Tips hat*
Howdy.
This be a character who's a "Spell-slinger" in a River Kingdom's game.
Give her a once over an' let me know whut tha' DM be thinkin' a things.
As fer a build fer yer Iron Gods? I were thinkin' of, maybe, addin' in some cavalier(Ghost rider) fer some extra haunts and giggles.
(^_^)
Much cheers ta' all an' ta' all tha very best.

Does sound like fun! I've always been partial to the sniper-types, and/or the magic-tinged gun users depending on whether you want just the gunslinger or gun-based archetypes (for example, I even had a psionic marksman/kaigun for an Iron Gods campaign that fell through after only a couple sessions - could easily be reworked to fit this theme). Either way, it seems like an interesting angle to take on the AP.

Are you thinking specifically of gunslingers, or would other firearms-oriented archetypes potentially also be allowed? Steel hound investigator or savage technologist barbarian, for instance?
I would allow firearm archetypes of other classes as well.
I'll give it a few more days to see any other comments, reply to them all, and likely Recruit starting next week.
Glad to see there is interest here. I may splice the first Kingmaker book in here. Still kicking that idea around.

For that, would we be trying to carve out our own section of Numeria for our own, using Torch as a staging ground (little knowing when we arrive that we first need to sort out what is happening there before the place will be much use)? Or would it be something else (like we were trying to explore the River Kingdoms and ended up going too far north, now that we ended up in Torch it is hard to leave a town in such troubles)?

Dot, I'd run either a Spellslinger/Eldritch Archer, Desperado Warlord, or Gunsmoke Mystic
Spell slinger is ... challenging... at lower levels. You would be surprised how taking away your cantrips would hamper you ... mostly because even though your gun is powerful when you connect, it costs 11 gold a shot (10 for the powder, 1 for the bullet) regardless of how you roll. On a wizard's starting gold pool, that gives you maybe 10 shots at start if you skimp on a lot of the other things. Now given we are going in with the premise of "everyone has a gun in the group", perhaps that won't be as much of an issue.
(shrug) Just thought I would throw that out there... I had fun playing one but the constant wonder of "is this thing worth my limited spells or bullets or do I just want to let my companions deal with it" kinda made it less fun than I was hoping.

Would you use the Campaign Clarification "errata" for the spellscar drifter?
Page 45—A spellscar drifter's challenge ability allows him to deal extra damage whenever he makes attacks with firearms against the target of his challenge. His challenge ability doesn't allow him to deal extra damage with weapons that are not firearms.

Keep throwing ideas out there folks. Once I have had a chance to look at all of your comments, I'll take them all on board and start Recruitment. It will likely start this Sunday and end two weeks later.
I am looking for a group of 5-7 just an FYI.
Based on what I read today, I will start with a modified Kingmaker (Book I only) and then move into Iron Gods, cutting out parts of certain books that do not gel with the rest of the AP so well.
I am envisioning Two Traits one from Kingmaker and one from Iron Gods as the only PC traits as part of the build.

ObsessiveWiz |

I've played the first 1.5 books of Kingmaker. I assume this would not be a major issue, since you said you'd be modifying it? Also I can handle keeping player knowledge and character knowledge separate (I GM).
I've also narrowed my multiclass idea to 5 levels of Gunslinger (possibly Pistolero) then going into base Fighter, Mutation Warrior, or Weapon Master. I'm thinking Gun Twirling and double-barreled pistols for an obscene amount of lead flying towards my foes ;D
If multiclass is ok, anyway. Looking forward to recruitment.

No worries if any of you have played the AP before, I'll base selections on strength of submission. I consider posting rates and habits but as I do not post ever day in every game I run daily posting is not an issue for me. I also generally try to take at least one or two people new to PbP when I can to give people a chance to play that have not been able to do so before.

It is. That's why "Rich Parents" or 'Chosen Child" can help out with ammunition load outs.
After 1st level though, swithing over to Socerer helps put more spells through the weapon... Unless I'm reading the rules wrong. The magic user can put any spell they know through the weapon, right?
Looking forwards to playing. Heck, watching along will be interesting/educational to boot.

Why do you do this to me? You know I have things to do, Shadow. First Vampire, and now this? I've got papers to write.
I'm gonna shoot you a PM about my idea for this character tomorrow afternoon as it's definitely pretty out there, and I don't want to gum up this thread with talk about a concept that may never see the light of day. The more I think about this idea as I dig it since it's pretty out there and I can't recall anyone else having done a build like this. I'm sure it's probably "subpar" mechanically but it'll be a pretty sick character concept by the time I'm done with it. And in the end, isn't how cool something is what really matters?
I'm gonna go to bed. My eyes are starting to twitch.

Warpfiend |

Well then, A gunmaster Vigilante for sure! Although I'll either be a Ratfolk or a kobold(seriously the Crazy ones are the best ones)
If you go for Ratfolk, I'm making a Gulch Gunner. We could entwine our back stories, you a lone ranger and me a gun-for-hire that had worked on some jobs together. If we share the same space he's flat-footed so you can use the hidden strike for d4s, although I can probably first run out while you stay hidden to get the full d8s.

Bumping this, because it apparently got missed and also because I really want to play the Lone Ranger.

I didn't miss it, just have been responding to the low hanging fruit if you will , the easy ones for me to answer.
Since you asked twice though :-0
Yes indeed I will use that if it is more PC favorable. Of course, my NPCs should there be any of the class will also gain said benefit!

Storyteller Shadow |

Just an FYI, I say yes to about 90 or 95% of PCs requests partially because I want Players to play the PCs they want to play and partially because the bulk of DM/GMs on this board I find incredibly restrictive in what they allow in a Recruitment. At least on DM has to allow some of this experimental stuff to be brought to life!
