Since Amber is great, I figured this thread could be a good idea.

Come one, come all, and share with us why you think she's great.

Since I get to go first - I really, really enjoyed Chronicle of the Righteous. Also, she wrote the first adventure in that AP Paizo used a name I'd suggested for.

Amber Scott has to be one of my all-time favorite RPG writers. She started off Wrath of the Righteous most epicly, and somehow managed to top that with her harrowing of Hell finale in Hell's Rebels. Those are two of my favorite APs! Thank you, Ms. Scott!

Amber Scott is a goddam delight. I'm an eager fan of her writing and just her as a human being, and I count myself blessed to finally be working on a project with her!

I've been a fan of Amber since...always, ever since she introduced herself to me at Gen Con 2007 and we played Coloretto and talked about freelance writing. A wonderfully inspiring woman, and a delightful human bean. ^_^

I am not Amber, but I am so happy to see this thread this afternoon. Yay, Amber!

Amber is one of those freelancers who I'm always happy to see at Cons, even though we rarely have time to chat beyond simple pleasantries. She's someone whose work I've admired for years, and with whom I'm sad that I haven't had the opportunity to work on projects I've developed more. She's also strong and will get through this, but it's shitty that she has to go through it at all.

Sending you the best, Amber!

Amber, your work is delightful, and don't let anyone tell you differently. As a trans woman dreaming of one day finding her own lady paladin, you gave me representation beyond anything I could ever dream of!

*hugs and kisses*

I very much enjoy reading stuff Amber writes. Sorry that all this shit is getting flung your way, but I can't wait to see what you write afterwards.

Amber Scott wrote the new Siege of Dragonspear expansion for Beamdog's Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition. She included a very minor cleric character that the party/player can optionally interact with. If you click through one dialogue tree far enough, the cleric reveals

Spoiler:
that she is a transwoman.

This tiny bit has prompted a very vocal and very angry minority of gamers to give the game 1 star reviews and say very unkind & totally untrue things about the developer and Ms. Scott in particular. While the new expansion does seem to have some bugs/glitches, the ire seems to be almost entirely fueled by the inclusion of the one character.

Amber Scott has written a lot of stuff, so I'm sure she has written something I like, as all the things I see her name on are things I like.

Amber makes a great Imperator Furiosa!

Also it's bullshit that she and Beamdog have to deal with a bunch of phobic butt-hats.

Unfortunatly it seems the dialogue thing is being misreported as well since the version I was told (That some of the people are getting annoyed at) is actually completly diffrent than what actually happens. Also keep in mind that in the places where you have to have downloaded a copy of the game to review it the reviews are generally better.

Wow! That is some f%+&ed up bullshit. So disappointing >:-(

I've always loved her writing, be strong Amber! :-)

I first met Amber back in 2007 when I was trying to break into freelancing. She (as well as others in the WereCabbages) was super helpful in giving me tips and tricks and helping me hone my craft. She's also fun, funny, and caring—all traits that I hold dear.

Whenever I read that Amber Scott is writing something, I always consider it regardless of whether I would normally be interested in the product or not. She is one of my "guaranteed solid" writers: writers that I know will give me a quality product when I buy it. She is one of the best out there and—as far as I am concerned—one of the staples of the gamer community.

Also The Worldwound Incursion has one of my all time favorite Star Wars-esque moments. :-)

It's the usual crap. Amber wrote a character in Dragonspear who's a minor NPC. If you ask her about her unusual name, she tells you that she made it up herself out of meaningful syllables from multiple languages and reveals that she's trans. Of course, some of the usual suspects are upset about that and are bragging about their success rate at getting women fired from game companies and how Amber's next. They're doing the usual--trying to dig up her home address and that of her family so they can harass them, threats, brigading her company with demands that she be fired, spamming the Steam and GOG pages with negative reviews about the supposedly terrible writing, etc.

If you're curious and willing to risk wading into cesspits, you can google it.

Let's keep this thread focused on the positive.

That... that's awful! No one should have to go through that.

My prayers for her safety and the end of such unearned malice. :(

Behind you all the way, Amber! Bravo for making a stand for representation in video games!

And for the record, Worldwound Incursion is one of my all time favorite AP installments.

I have never met Amber, but I am familiar with some of her work. The Worldwound Incursion was wonderful! Chronicle of the Righteous is easily my favorite Pathfinder book (I loooove the Empyreal Lords)! I really enjoy planetouched, so the Tieflings of Golarion article in the Council of Thieves AP as well as the Blood of Angels book were both things I really enjoyed as well. She has a lot of writing credits on many of my other favorite Pathfinder books. That was a long way of saying I like her work a lot. Her as the lead writer, as well as to show my support for her and Beamdog, is why I ordered the physical collector's edition of Siege of Dragonspear.

Having been critical of parts of 'The Worldwound Incursion' when it first came out. A stance I have softened with over time, and over things I was overly harsh about.... I do think Amber is a good writer.

I can understand some things I read that a big part of why they are upset that some characters have changed from the previous portrayals (haven't gotten Dragonspear yet, so I don't know how much... if there is even enough change to notice). I disagree with them that there is an issue with an optional encounter with a trans character that states that fact during one line of questioning. Sounds like any character whose background you are asking about.

Anyway, good luck, Amber Scott. Keep writing what makes you happy. I do plan on getting Dragonspear when I can.

Not having read or played TWI or BTBoH, but delighted in CotR, my thoughts and encouragement goes out to her. Nobody should ever have to put up with childish harassment from subhuman bigots, especially not for doing something good.

Don't let it get to you, Amber!

You rock, Amber!

Also, I don't think I'll get the time in any forseeable future to actually play Siege of Dragonspear, but I still consider the €19.99 the best money I've spent on a game since, well, Baldur's Gate.

I love Anevia ^w^

I just wish I could find a GM that would stay with us past The Worldwound Incursion -_-

As you can see Amber really has done the hard yards as a RPG freelancer. I've enjoyed everything I've read of hers and I thought that her work in Pirates of the Inner Sea was excellent.

I love what she did with Secrets of the Sphinx, it's not easy making a dungeon the highlight of a campaign, especially when it's the fourth adventure. Oh, and she wrote the fiction for it as well, I bet if she had a Mic she totally dropped it in Rob's office when he got her turnover. :-)

Anyway, Amber's work is awesome and I hope she has a further success in the future.

Amber Scott is one of the best Pathfinder authors. She has written many of my favourites, including "The Worldwound Incursion", and some of the best fiction to appear in Pathfinder Adventure Path.

All the best to you, Amber.
