Regarding Superb Owls... Normally, I don't give a hoot. But since Allie was prey-ing for a Bronco victory, I'm glad they proved a talon-ted bunch.
I'm sure if Allie could've been there last night with the Lombardi Trophy, she'd have raptor arms around it. (Reed Richards would've found that one to be a stretch, but I don't care.)
Also...
the risk of orcs comin' on us while we slept
Phrasing (if I'm calling out Daen on it, I have to get myself, too).

I am so far behind the curve, I only just started watching. I'm about halfway through Season 1. I've spent the past three days laughing over "Bartleby the Scrivener."

So, what things do we need to track? Treasure? I think that both groups should have separate sheets in the treasure tracking spreadsheet if we do that. Or separate files altogether?
Right now I have everyone at Table 1 except Kassie as able to edit the folder. Table 2, PM me your emails.

Sir Grimold |
We're apparently Squad D (for Daen?)
Yes. Originally it was supposed to be Grimold's joke, but now it seems to be our official designation.
I could add characters from Grimold's backstory and TLV gameplay, but it didn't seem that they would be of any importance so I haven't included them. DM, what say you?
Gobo Horde |
Yay I got my computer back! Now I can get caught up on my campaigns (and post a whole lot more >.>
If I have access to the doccument, I will fill in a lot for it.
As for maps, Ive done some in the past using paint, but I have no experience using an actual map editor. Could be a fun time to learn ^-^

Are we using dynamic item creation rules?
EDIT: Also, since I never said which I chose:
These are the replaceable ones:
Naturally Psionic: Half-giants receive Wild Talent as a bonus feat at 1st level. If a half-giant takes levels in a psionic class, he instead gains the Psionic Talent feat.
Half-giant Psionics: Half-giants gain the following spell-like ability:
1/day—stomp. The manifester level for this effect is equal to 1/2 the half-giant's level (minimum 1st). The DC for this power is equal to 10 + the power's level + the half-giant's Charisma modifier.Psionic Aptitude: When a half-giant takes a level in a favored class, he can choose to gain an additional power point instead of a hit point or skill point.
Available alternatives:
Intimidating: Half-orcs receive a +2 racial bonus on Intimidate checks due to their fearsome nature.Gatecrasher: Many half-orcs revel in acts of wanton destruction. Half-orcs with this racial trait gain a +2 racial bonus on Strength checks to break objects and on sunder combat maneuver checks.
Overlooked Mastermind: Some half-orcs use half-orcs' brutish stereotypes to their advantage, causing others to underestimate their intelligence and scheming. Such half-orcs gain a +2 racial bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, and Sense Motive checks. This bonus increases to +4 against other humanoids. They also receive a +2 racial bonus on Bluff checks to feign ignorance and Sense Motive checks to intercept secret messages, and this stacks with the above bonus.
Relentless: Dwarves are skilled at pushing their way through a battlefield, tossing aside lesser foes with ease. Dwarves with this racial trait receive a +2 bonus on combat maneuver checks made to bull rush or overrun an opponent. This bonus only applies while both the dwarf and his opponent are standing on the ground.
Unstoppable:...
I chose Intimidating, Overlooked Mastermind, and Unstoppable.

Jokes are like that. Sometimes they stick.
I'd love a designation for the Table 2 people. N Squad = Newcomers. F Squad = Fresh Meat? Foreigners? Something fun.
Table 2, what do you think?
I could add characters from Grimold's backstory and TLV gameplay, but it didn't seem that they would be of any importance so I haven't included them. DM, what say you?
Not the GM, but... If they get mentioned in gameplay here or in your character backstory in your sheet, I think you should include them. Especially if they're still alive and are parents or siblings that might still be in Vigil. This will give the GM people to use for story purposes.
Do you still have Sczarni ties, Grimold? Those might apply if they're still in Vigil.

And in keeping with that I think group two should be the Knights Who Say NI!
Did you know that 'Ni' is two in Japanese? I think you should go with this.
Okay, I'm thinking Daen had 2nd or 3rd shift at night. If we figure out who has the 4th watch, they can wake us up. Then we can head in to Vigil from there.
Zoh and Taj are available right now. Do you want us to do it?

Actually, I do know that, but wasn't thinking of that at the time. "Itchy knee". "One two" That might be a good name after all and not just a joke.

My table's pretty good at using spoiler tage to flex back to a previous conversation if need be, so just speaking for myself, yeah. Any other D Squad Screaming Griffons want to chime in?
Rataji the Resourceful |
Yep, move us on. Taj has been shifted to full caster. I'm just finishing out last gear purchases.
Squad D -- Are we generally riding around on horses? I ask because a horse would be far cheaper than a haversack and the weight of my bedroll puts me at medium encumbrance. Should I purchase a horse for Rataji? Or just give up on ever having my own bedroll?
:p
I am now trying to figure out scrolls. Suggestions for good spells that you want in scroll form?
I'm now a flagbearer. If you have suggestions for what should be on the flag, let me know. Right now I'm inclined to put a griffon with a little wind up key in its back on it! Also possible would be using Vigil's colors as a backdrop.
I replaced bless with endure elements because I'm worried about severe weather. However, if we have the money for a wand of it, I'll do another spell.

Regarding flags... It looks like Lastwall's Flag is white with a bunch of black shields on it.
So I'm proposing D Squad's flag be white with a black shield in one corner for Lastwall and a griffin in the remainder. Or do we just want the flag to be Lastwall's, like in this picture?
In the historical context, people rarely rode under their country's flag. Instead, they usually took part of the image, and used their banners and heraldic devices to identify a smaller group. So... Lastwall flag, or one more specific to D Squad with black shield and griffin?
Rataji the Resourceful |
Regarding Note-Taking:
I'd like to lead off the Personae and Places file with a sentence or two about each PC, both from D Squad or the New Recruits.
New Recruits, could you each give me a sentence or two about yourselves? Otherwise, I'm just going to make something up from your character sheets and I might focus on the wrong things.
:)
Taj
Rataji the Resourceful |
I'm up for just about anything though.
I like that griffin, too! So a griffin and a black shield in the corner in true heraldric tradition?
Rataji the Resourceful |
Okay new recruits, here's what I have as character summaries. As I said, I probably picked up on the wrong details, so please correct me!

New Recruits
Barrett Armstrong -- Elven Spellsinger and Eldritch Archer. Seeking revenge against the lich who killed his family.
Elovanakovia “Elo” Parvanovitch -- Half-elf white-haired magus. Originally hailing from Irrisen, she’s a military seargeant and knight aspirant seeking to quell the orc threat in Belkzen.
Gaurm -- Half giant warlord. Originally from the mountains near the Mwangi expanse, he’s a well-traveled. Former apprentice to a smith. Following Barrett Armstrong to the crusade at Vigil, sworn to help his friend find justice.
Joshua Jericho -- Elan marksman. Joshua originally grew up on the streets of Vellumis in Lastwall. Former bandit, he was changed into an Elan when he changed sides to help a strange merchant. After proving his worth elsewhere with adventures throughout the innersea, he’s come back to home to help Vigil in its hour of need.
Midiotoziggeroto (“Midioto”) -- Elan psion. Short, energetic, adventurous and weird. He enjoys meeting new people and seeing new lands. He’s apparently joined the crusade for the heck of it.
Sabah Nur a'Maisadre -- Human cleric of Sarenrae from Katapesh. Shy, driven and outspoken. Want to make a difference in the crusade.

I am now trying to figure out scrolls. Suggestions for good spells that you want in scroll form?
Scrolls are best for low-level spells that are good, but are situational enough that you don't want to actually commit slots to them (doubly so when those spells only have out of combat use, where the activation time for scrolls is ignorable). Keep Watch, for example, or Crafter's Fortune. For things like Shield and Mage Armor, on the other hand, a wand is better since you'll be activating it so often.
It's also important to keep in mind that scrolls always function at the lowest CL possible, making them a poor choice for spells that have level dependent effects and short durations.
Rataji the Resourceful |
Some context... I'm an oracle and have a mnemonic vestment. So I can cast scrolls at my own level with my own modifiers without using the scroll up. But I can only do one of those castings per day! So yes, situational spells would be good. I'm tempted to put obscuring mist in a scroll and free back that spell known.
Sabah |
That changes it around a little bit. Here's a list of things I'd consider to keep handy as scrolls.
-Hide from Undead is a really good example of a situational DC & CL dependant spell. It can make an entire encounter go away, and the rest of the time it's entirely use-impaired.
-Remove Blindness/deafness(although that one is 3rd level, not save/cl dependant)
-Remove Paralysis(not stat dependent)
-Zone of Truth(rarely useful, but needs save when it is.)
-Shatter(not stat dependant)
-Swallow your Fear(that one is extremely situational, but good when someone essential failed their will save.)
-Spear of Purity (Save & CL, situational)
-Lesser Restoration (not stat dependant, but annoying to wait for)
-Protection from Evil (less so than in 3.5e, but still a boon vs mind control)
-Weapon Against Evil (situational. Doesn't have to be MV'ed.)
-Endure Elements (you never know if winter is coming, and one of your teammates is bound to have a so-so fortitude save.)
I'm reminded that I told myself I'd buy a bunch of scrolls before game start. I better get that done.
Rataji the Resourceful |
Sabah, thanks for your list.
Here is my current spells known list (excluding spirit spells):
Taj
Oracle (Spirit Guide) Spells Known (CL 5th; concentration +10)
. . 2nd (5/day)—burst of radiance (DC 17), cure moderate wounds, hypnotic pattern (DC 19), levitate, minor image (DC 19), lesser restoration
. . 1st (8/day)—color spray (DC 18), comprehend languages, cure light wounds, endure elements, murderous command[UM] (DC 16), obscuring mist, sanctuary (DC 16), shield of faith
. . 0 (at will)—create water, detect magic, detect poison, enhanced diplomacy, ghost sound (DC 17), mage hand, read magic, stabilize

I am trying to decide if I can afford a wand of Endure Elements so that I can drop it from the spell list. Our inquisitor has communal protection from Evil on her spell list.
Daen wrote:Purchase them proper at start. Craftable In Game. you can purchase reduced charges though to show use if it makes sense for your character.Hey DM, if my magus is a bit of a crafter say wands and Scrolls, can I use crafting prices for those kinds of utility items, or should I just purchase them with proper WBL?
Also, should or can I make or purchase some half done wands to show how things have been used in the past?
GM --
Are partial wands available for purchase to other characters, or only those with wand crafting feats?

I don't care who tells the story to me. You all can.
BTW, GM, feel free to move us forward to Vigil at any time. We're great at continuing past conversations in flex time spoilers.
And I've been answered (in gameplay) about whether I should purchase a horse. Clearly, this is a mounted party! Taj will be buying one there if anyone wants to help her pick one out. I'm assuming Zohruk has one in Vigil already.

Comes from books by one of my favorite authors.
The Codex Alera (name of the series), by Jim Butcher
The new recruits in one of the books were called "fish", a description of how they looked when trying to work in formation; like fish flopping about on land.
Rataji the Resourceful |
I love Jim Butcher's Dresden novels, but never got into his Codex Alera series. However, I love the description. Very evocative!
