Too many people are adding to much of their own context and made-up circumstances to the argument and it's just ending up with everyone talking past each other about two basically different things.

One side is seeing the "dying guy" as an innocent bystander where another player just refused to heal them when they had nothing really else going on.

The other is seeing an jerk that's once again dying because they built and played a character with the expectations that others would be responsible for healing them like a little NPC tagalong while they played and had fun. This seems to be the actual case that was mentioned, and it also seemed to not be a 1 time thing, (the character was 4th level and talked about not ever buying their own healing).

In both cases, one, and only one of those players is being a jerk and not being a "Cooperative" Pathfinder.

Its just as bad, if not worse, to expect other players to always carry you, than it is to not heal someone when you can, but there are also others around who can as well. Not only are you basically cheating the system about trading and giving away gear, but you are also being an ass and trying to hide behind the "Cooperate" line while obviously not doing it yourself.

Personally, I'd just swap out characters to one that also has no healing, and is even more badass than him/her and ask why they aren't healing me while I do their characters job better. Only need one combat badass in the party, right? Heck, they can play the Pregen and really help the party out by just standing back and healing, and still get credit. Everyone's happy. Oh, they aren't happy with that. Well, then don't expect it from everyone else and buy some dang potions that you can spend your action drinking.

Now if it is the player that could have healed and chose not to, particularly if it was just to save a wand charge or whatever, yes, I think we can all agree that's pretty crappy on that non-healer's part. That doesn't actually sound like it's the case, (though we only have one side of it), but there is also the fact that different people like different things, and some people really hate being a "healer", because it means thy don't get to do cool stuff. They are basically the other player's personal pet NPC. Or maybe they are burnt out on that roll. Either way, it's still a crappy thing to do, but again, this does not sound like it was actually the case being talked about, and it seemed the "dying guy" didn't even die.

I don't think that debating the morality and alignment of healing (or not) a party member is really going to sway anyone in this thread at this point. For what it's worth, I 'd probably view not expending resources to save another party-member as a Neutral act, but one that has a high likelihood of violating the "Don't be a jerk" rule. On the other hand, the guy that repeatedly expects someone else to provide healing for them is also likely violating the same rule (especially if they're being rude about it.) Use of resources and consumables is always going to be a touchy subject for as long as the game exists, including the ubiquitous CLW Wand argument. So try not to be a jerk and, if someone else is, try to resolve it out of game whenever possible.

As for the actual topic of the thread, I started to make a response to the Original Poster's position and some words of advice for new players, but I honestly hope that any new players would have shied away from this thread by now as it's wandered pretty far afield ;)

This entire thread is really just phase one of Thursty's Year of Shax: "Get the players to argue among themselves."

In my mind, a perfect table of PFS involves people that are cooperating as a team to complete challenges and are having fun while doing so.

Whatever we suggest as solutions to these bad situations being discussed, I'd request that we all keep in mind that the other people participating here are our peers. We all play this game together, even though we aren't sitting across from one another on game night. Not everyone has the same table experiences as everyone else, and for some, their past experience with other players has been less than ideal.

Personally, whenever I encounter someone that does something that irritates me at a table, I try to remember that we're just at different places with our understanding of PFS. I was probably at the same place as this person at some point in the past and if the same experiences happened to me, I might be at that same point in the future. All I can do is try to show them where I am with my understanding and remain open minded. And if they do the same, then any conflict we might have had evaporates rather quickly.

one of my fave aspects of the wounded wisp evergreen is the NPCs you talk to in the bar that reinforce many of the complaints in this thread. there's a reason it and confirmation are meant as an introduction. they flat out tell you "y'know, you really should have an acid flask" and "maybe you shouldn't just wantonly kill EVERYONE you come across" ...

I was especially thrilled the first time I heard this in the Wounded Wisp. I thought it was great.

Good cleric, i heal you in spite of yourself
Neutral cleric, i stabalize you in spite of yourself
Evil cleric, i inflict serious and check your pockets for loose change.

(I have had a single player demand my property to bring him back to full hit points at level 11. I refused. Generally people know what to do, but by level 11 if they dont I am not obligated to be their charity.

Except pregens. Since the society covers the cost of equipping their clones, turning them upside down for loose change to hire the ferry and passing around their wands is perfectly acceptable. When playing a pre gen be prepared to have your items drooled over like the chubby guy in a cartoon shipwreck situation.

Since they're not people, everyone can go through their pockets!

Renamed thread and removed a long series of back and forth/circular arguments/posts quoting the removed posts. If you want to debate alignment, what is/isn't good GMing, or anything that isn't related to the original post, take it elsewhere. There is absolutely no reason for this level is animosity on our forums.

I'd like to go way back 200 posts ago and add

1. Oil of daylight (or similar)
2. Underwater breathing and combat effectiveness.
3. Monster Lore (at some level)
4. Life bubble

The writers expect or make encounters which an unprepared combatant can be wiped out. These special cases are not terribly troublesome but new guys will have a devil of a time the first time around.

If you are Neutral on the Good/Evil axis, a neat trick to save some cash: Potion of Unnatural Halo. Works similarly to an Oil of Daylight, but you can buy 15 of them for the price of one oil since it's a level 1 spell instead of 3. Doesn't work for Good characters, unfortunately.

Can you link the spell? I'm not familiar with it. ^_^
