What is happening to the site - downtime and posts missing

Website Feedback

There has been a lot of downtime the past few days. Power outs apparently?

Also, a number of posts have disappeared from the [Amora Games] Collective Influence/ Liber influxus Communis Kickstarter thread in the Compatible Products from Third Party publishers subforum... Is this happening all over the site?

Definitely all over the site. Superstar thread posts are missing.
The site forgot that my account existed and wouldn't let me log on for several hours. Every post of mine since Friday afternoon is gone.

Yes, if you post fairly often (like myself), and go into your recent posts, you will likely see that any posts you made since this afternoon are missing.

I post in several sections over several topics, and most of what I've posted today is gone.

They've apparently had power outage issues, and I'm guessing that the outages have caused server stability issues.

Either that or someone flipped the switch to "magic" instead of "more magic."

Liberty's Edge

yeah this is infruiating i posted several times over the last couple days and they have been deleted can we hope to get that content back or are we just beat and have to rewrite?

We're still figuring out exactly what's happened and what we're going to do to make this not happen again. The power went out. The UPS that's supposed to bridge the few seconds until the generator kicks in decided to take a nap. The database cluster had to be restarted from cold, which is a tricky time for a cluster. (They generally prefer partial failures or rolling restarts.) When the cluster finally did come back up, something got misconfigured. A scheduled backup fires off and takes down one mode which apparently the others dislike and they all start squabbling about who has the most recent copy of this table or that, and so damage control, cleanup and restarting the site gets more complicated.

Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

I just wondered if the moderation issues have gotten so severe that my non-inflammatory "Yeah, its getting unconfortable around here" post got deleted without even the customary "posts removed" marker. Would have gotten my bristles up quite a bit more.

@Gary Teter: thx for the heads up. Do you think this problem (posts/threads disappearing) will continue over the next little while?

I suppose my biggest concern is this:

Should I try and repost everything from today that got deleted, or do you think it will show up at some point?

+1 on this - burned a few good hours updating the crunch on a profile and posting in ongoing games - now all those threads/profile have reset and info is lost.

Am reluctant to rejig if the same thing happens (laptop barely survived being used as a discus this morning)...

I've found that I'm much safer surfing the interwebs if I have a punchingbag handy nearby. Something to consider if your laptop is expensive.

That said, severe +1. Play by post really needs the server to be reliable in storing content.

Could you get back to us on whether you are going to attempt to restore our lost posts?

Also, if you could put up a notice of when you expect the server to be able to keep posts, that'd be great. I'm not going to put up new stuff unless I'm relatively sure it stays where it is.

We appreciate you and your teams effort Gary. Good luck with getting everything back up to speed.

I'm I sounded clipped there - I'm going to utilize said punching bag, and then I'll be back in a much more pleasant and polite persona.

I do appreciate your and your team's efforts, gary.

Goes without saying that I'm not blaming the valiant paizite tech-goblins :) Just venting my frustration... cantankerous Scot that I am!

Fully appreciate everyone's efforts and know you guys will be more frustrated that any of us.

Scarab Sages

Wow, sounds like a "perfect storm" of failures. Seems to be how it usually goes with computers and web stuff. 8^)

Good luck, Gary and team!

Just popping in here to say that this seems to have affected the store as well i bought 11 or so books last night got the confirmation email and suddenly this morning they are all back in my cart. so just a heads up if you bought anything recently to make sure its still in your downloads.

Yikes, makes me glad that we host sites with a third-party rather than try to do it ourselves.

I appreciate the overtime that you guys are putting in. Here's hoping that things go smoothly from here on out.

Gary, you guys rock. Keep up the good work! But do let us know if we need to repost things. I already have, so it doesn't matter to me so much, but it would to others...

So glad the sites back.

Just wanted to say everything seems to be running great (knock on wood) and thank you for all your hard work! You guys are top notch.

Thanks for your hard work guys, having recently discovered the joys of PbP, I'm reminded once again what a great service Paizo provides the community with the game they publish and the site they run.
