What is your take on the Prehensile Hair hex, and whether it can be used for somatic components? For example, if I decide to go with a quadripedal form, would I be able to take the prehensile hair hex and use that to cast spells? (Even if you say yes, I have no idea if I will ever do that, but I'm just thinking about the possibilities.)

It should be a moot point, as you will never lose the arms from your base human form (unless something cuts them off). At best you would be a centaur like creature with prehensile hair.

Because of that, I will rule no, it doesn't work for somatic components.

Cool. Now I just need to find that drawback that represents one of those somewhat arrogant professors we all have occasionaly had to endure. I don't think this will be a problem for party dynamics, as long as no one is my student. But you had better call me Dr. Collingsworth.
I think I shall call you... "Cecil".

Of whom could you possibly be speaking. There is no 'Cecil' here. Such a pedestrian name anyway. Couldn't imagine anyone naming their child 'Cecil'. Seems a rather unpleasant thing to do to your child to name them 'Cecil'....

Can it, however, be used to deliver touch attacks?

Think I've got most of the crunch squared away. Just need to translate the backstory over form outline to read-worthy format.

Feeling like waxing poetic for some reason. Think I'm going to cover the background through verse then offer a synopsis as a companion.

I suppose so.

Here's the basics

Okay—all done.

Ye Olde Liste of Applicants

Arcane:
Argor Constantine - M Human Wizard (Conjuror)

Kaloo Narvian - F Gnome Sorcerer (Tattooed Sorcerer)

Cladissa Velorryan - F Human Witch

Melee:
Maqir - F Ifrit Bard (Arcane Duelist)

Azrin - M Suli Warpriest (Sarenrae)

Grommuk Breakmarrow - M Orc Brawler

Ranged:
Hrimnagel Avaldamon - M Svirfneblin Inquisitor (Preacher, Count Renalc)
____________________________________

Grommuk - It all looks good except for the very end of the background. As soon as you fail your Confirmation you get called before the Masters. There wouldn't have been time for him to work his way into a criminal organization yet.

I love that your hulk smash does more damage than your greataxe. "I'll go easy on you, I'll use the axe."

Hulk slash?

Car Salesman Hulk: "Hulk SLASH. . . prices!"

Seductive Hulk: "HULK LONGEST THERE IS!"

Think I may go ahead and pick up Power Attack instead of Improved Grapple. I can always burn a maneuver mastery if I feel like goin' for the holds. Altered the ending snippet a bit. Just having him wander off and mope for the time being; beat up a few overzealous thugs.

Seductive hulk, lol.

Hulk has to be my all time favorite comic book character.

Grommuk? :P

Yes! His explorer's outfit is a pair of ripped blue jeans with some pocket lint. Although, he might have some purple pants in storage.

Scarab Sages

For whatever it's worth, I believe I'll be changing to Irori from Sarenrae.

I know Khali is a woman and Azrin's not, but just look at her putting the smack down on Shiva. Hopefully you can draw inspiration from her badassery.

If elected, I promise a chicken in every pot, and that chicken will be marinated in the neck-blood of mortals I have decapitated because their awful mustaches displeased me. Khali 2016!

You've got my vote.

I see. I was just thinking that because of this post that it would be possible to change forms. I was toying with the idea of becoming sphinx-like, but wondering if my spellcasting would suffer. Oh, well. There's always the lamia!

Someone needs to take the "mount" evolution. Just sayin.

I forgot to say, I am all done with character build.

Haha! I'd definitely considered it.

Well...you could grow two more legs and then have your arms amputated if you really want.

If your fluff is done to, link me the alias and I'll add it to the list.

Scarab Sages

I think I've finished Azrin. He's much more thematic now. Better cohesion. I like how it all came together.

Grommuck, I love the concept. I can't wait for you to get feral combat training.

Yeah, probably not. I thought my arms could *become* legs after a point. But amputation's pretty extreme.

-runs around with blood squirting arm stumps through the streets of Absalom-

"I am the SPHINX! RAWWAWR!"

"Your arm's off."

"No it isn't."

"Legs! Still got legs."

(And that's mixing my genres a bit!)

Scarab Sages

I have spare arms if you change your mind.
Might look funny on you though.

This is the alias. and fluff is in the earlier post with spoilers.

Can we trade our legs for more arms?

I'm tempted to build this guy around seeing how much damage he can do in single punches, haha, optimization be damned. Oh, and jumping far. I'm surprised at the lack of base speed increases available to Eidolons. Don't want to sprout a million legs to be able to jump far.

What can I get for an appendix, a tonsil, a couple little toes and an ear?

Marcus Teric wrote:

Going to need everything in the alias for it to be considered complete. Have a look at the example characters in the first post or anyone on the completed applicants list for an example.

mechaPoet wrote:

Not sure if this is a serious question, but no.

Skilled Acrobatics, five levels of monk and a ki point is probably the only thing that's going to get you remotely close to the Hulk as far as jumping goes.

Slam can be reflavored to be a single punch. I don't really care as long as the mechanics don't change.

I'll probably be going Brawler/Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist)

There's a few rage powers that might get the job done (plus an extra 10 feet to jump).

Or I could take the Flight evolution and only fly in leaping arcs, haha.

I was going to suggest that as an eventual solution as well.

Darkvision is normally automatic with Eidolons, hence no need to have it as evolution option. For us, it is a little different of course. Is it reasonable to propose that Darkvision is a 1 point evolution and perhaps Evasion is a 1 or 2 point evolution?

No, I don't think so. There are plenty of races with darkvision available, and class ways to get evasion. I think everyone is going to be sufficiently powerful as is. It'll be more interesting if there are some limitations on you guys.

Placed in alias itself, if you don't like me using bestiary format let me know and I will use your alias format.

After thinking on this for a while, I think I'm going to throw in the towel on this one and drop out of consideration. My creativity's just burned out on this character concept, and I've got nothing but some mechanics, which just isn't what I want to present, and I know it's not what you want to look over, Jelani. I've played with you before and know you're great, and I wish you the best of luck with this game.

Scarab Sages

I don't think I've ever seen Loup apply for a PbP. Just post interest and drop out.

Loup, why not go for a nagaji with the tail and (GM permitting) constrict evolution? Grab a poison bite and be a crazy snake!

Glad some of these questions have been raised, as it's clarified how I want to build my guy later on. Weeeee

It wasn't a serious question, but I still think it would be funny to just be a whirling mass of just arms. We could take a many-legged player, and chop off their top half, and sovereign glue it to someone with many arms! There is no way this could go wrong.

Azrin, that's because I'm already involved in several PbPs and I only want to actually apply with a complete character if I feel the character is complete to the best of my ability to make it. I like to have a good mechanical foundation and a compelling backstory or personality or some such. And for this game, I got a decent character together crunch-wise, but I just wasn't feeling it when it came to the backstory, the personality, or anything like that.

I'm sure if you scour the threads, you'll find some where I post in with a full character for consideration. There are a couple right now, in fact ;)

I get that. Character is so much more important in these play by posts. I've had some invitations to games by my GM that I've turned down because I didn't have a character that inspired me. Sure, I had the room to add another game, but I didn't have a character that had a unique voice.

So I'm definitely interested in this game -- take a (sort of) ordinary girl and see how she reacts to becoming something extraordinary. Especially in the physical sense. Give her a rival to whom she has never measured up, and watch her develop. I look forward to exploring the mental and emotional evolution as much as watching the physical.

Okay, that's my elevator pitch to why I should be chosen. :)

Scarab Sages

I actually have a really tough time creating backstory and personality off the bat, so I prefer generating a mechanical concept, and then as I play imagine how someone with those attributes and talents might express themselves. Sometimes it takes me a few games to find something that feels right, but I almost always do.

But your way is great too. I feel like I got something good with Azrin that way.
