That's (I'm guessing) the problem. Jeremy has already told ENWorld about this. But it's psionics so I don't see anyone being in a hurry to yell out to the world. Paizo... I actually expect is waiting until it's down to a week or less to post this on one of their blogs, which isn't a horrible move. On the down-side it gives people less time to scrape up money. On the up-side, stretch goals will have been met, making the deal that much more attractive to people who hear about it late.
I dunno. I still get the whole "I don't want science-fiction in my fantasy", as if it's every been true.
It's the New Age "Physics" speak that's got them off, I believe. Although "Energy" and "Matter" have been words in Plato's Greek (just read the Critias and the Timaeus), most people are put off. They think that there is a clear line between both branches of Fantastic Fiction, and when Psionics entered D&D, the line was crossed.
They want Alchemy to reside clearly in Fantasy, despite Sir Issac Newton and John Locke practicing Alchemy. Any character doing experiments in the way a Natural Philosopher did in the Middle Ages in order to get the fabled Philosopher's Stone is fantasy for them. The line can cross the other way. Imagine a science fiction adventure about the race to find the Philosopher's Stone.
Although, traditionally, Psionics belongs in Traveler, or GURPS: Space, or interestingly enough, the X-Men. And Magic belongs in Fantasy works. However, in truth, Psionics and Magic do spring from the same source. If one knew the truth about One's Self, then it wouldn't matter. Psionics, magic, alchemy, and chemistry just becomes a tool.
My favorite psionics character is the Shaper. If I had enough money and enough time, I would have bought one of those slots and have WAR do my Shaper character, with the looks of being confident, cool, knowledgable -- and using Create Object True to "conjure" an object from the Ether.

I find that almost 200 backers pledging over 21k is an amazing thing. We don't have the same ways as established companies do to get the word out, we don't get featured in Wired (like Bones did, twice), we are already a niche product within Pathfinder and - we're not done yet! :)
So, even with thousands of copies of PsiUn sold, not everybody will have the inclination, time or even knowledge about the Kickstarter to be able to pledge.

We are less than $500 away from doing the GM screen!
This is just amazing to me. Not that I don't realize that we have fans, but the success of this project has surpassed my wildest expectations of what we were going to see (I thought we might, just maybe top out at 10k.)
And with 4 weeks left to go, we are likely going to break that goal and move toward the others!
Ultimate Psionics - because Pathfinder needs a hardcover psionic book!

Actually to be honest, I am not a huge psionics fan. I like them, but no more than I like wizards or clerics and whatnot. What drew me to pledge was the complete nature of this book, one big compiled book in hardback form (with WAR cover art), plus you seem like good people, and I wanted to support.

<marketer>For those of you who haven't seen it - we have a bonus for when we hit 200 backers, and we've opened up 4 new spots for awesome character art. Let YOUR character grace the Ultimate Psionics book as well as the GM Screen and get all the goodies a 300$ pledge gets you at just 400$.</marketer>
With that said - considering how fast the 4 WAR positions disappeared, we decided to open up four more slots for the GM-screen, letting people take a second chance at getting awesome art as well as goodies. :)
Personally, I'm looking forward to the 200 backer bonus.
BTW, people have been taking an interesting use out of the 50$ "pitch" bonus which has lead to some interesting additions to the plan for us.
To stir things up and since you guys are so awesome at throwing cool things at us - are there any stretch goals or pledges that YOU would like us to add? Perhaps an add-on that you remember from another Kickstarter, or just something you want?
C'mon people, share! :)

I think Andreas probably meant that the character would also be inside the book, which you mentioned in the Kickstarter update, but not in the reward description.
That would be awesome. I had kind of assumed that the characters from the cover/GM screen would get mixed in with the iconics for various new art that was needed throughout the book (chapter openers, power displays, archetypes, etc.).

All right, folks. 2 backers away from a new prestige class, and a mere $535 away from at least 20 more monsters in the bestiary. Let's see if we can find some more interested parties!
Also, Jeremy has added a chart to make it easier to distinguish what pledge levels get what bonuses now that the stretch goals have modified that. It will eventually be updated with exactly what can be gotten as add-ons also.

Alright, after some time off for family being in town, I'm back in action at full capacity!
So let me give a good update about the Ultimate Psionics kickstarter.
First, we are over 200 backers and almost to $24,000 in funding!
What does that mean? Well, it means we're making a GM screen, which will be included at no additional charge for those at the $200 or higher pledge levels. Those at the lower levels will be able to purchase it as an add-on, or after the Kickstarter as a separate purchase (price TBD). In addition, we have made four limited availability slots to have your character on the GM Screen. Wayne Reynolds will not be doing the GM screen (we simply can't afford two WAR graphics), so the cost for having your character on the GM screen is lower. However, the graphic will be featured within the book itself, so you do get that added benefit, as well as all the benefits of the $300 tier.
With 200 backers, we are also including a brand new prestige class in Ultimate Psionics (details to be released later.) All backers $20 and up get this bonus prestige class.
At $24,000, we will be expanding the Psionic Bestiary with at least 20 additional psionic creatures. These will go into the Limited Edition book along with the rest of the Psionic Bestiary.
As mentioned above, I have created a chart to show what each reward tier gets based upon all the stretch goals we have achieved. You can see that on the main project page and I'll keep it updated as new stretch goals are achieved that introduce new products.
We still have over three weeks to go and are doing amazing. Work has already started on the adventure, the new content, and the bonus material.
And it's important to note that after the Kickstarter ends, these bonus perks (posters, adventures, item cards, etc.) will be available, but separately from the book itself, so if you're interested and able, be sure to participate in the Ultimate Psionics kickstarter!

Jeremy, I assume this means the GM screen image will show up as one of the new chapter header/opener things?

We are officially over $24,000 in pledges, which means we will be adding at least twenty additional creatures to the Psionic Bestiary (which will be included directly in the limited edition book, as well.)
At $27,000, we will produce and provide a PDF of printable paper minis for all the creatures in the bestiary! All backers at $30 and up will receive that PDF at no additional charge.
With a little over 3 weeks left to go, this project is shaping up to be quite the undertaking, with lots of bonus material for our backers. Let's see just how much additional content we can get added in to the Ultimate Psionics Kickstarter!

Jeremy mentioned earlier in the thread that it just costs too much to be able to put the color one into distribution. He said the Kickstarter would have to hit at least $60,000 (and he was ballparking, it's probably higher) to be able to feasibly do that because of the huge discounts retailers get on the books.

That's exactly it. We would have to produce thousands of copies in a single print run to make it economical, and then you're putting out a book that costs 50% more than the Pathfinder core rulebook.
It's the combination of hardcover, color, and the page count that simply makes it not feasible to get into retail outlets. While we will still have copies available at the Dreamscarred site, that's likely the only place it would be available due to that printing cost, unless we had the demand to print multiple thousand copies.

Jeremy,
Question. How will the book be laid out? Will it be 2 sections, separated into your first and second book, or will it be merged,i.e. all powers together, all races, all feats, etc, together. I'm an advocate for one merged text, to make stuff easier to find and feel like one giant text rather than 2 books stuck together. Thanks!
Jeff...

New stretch goal announced (and we're not too far from breaking the next one). Jeremy posted and announced that the 33k goal is one I'm guessing many GMs will be looking forward to. It will be a section on how to change the theme of psionics to fit your game. So you can get away from the 'sci-fi' feel some people seem to think it has, and move it towards something more fantasy for you.

I didn't notice this until after I'd thrown $400 at the Homestuck kickstarter.
I am not trying to steal away money from someone else. This is just information for if you're not aware of this.
You can change your pledge levels at any time before a Kickstarter closes. So it is possible for you to lower your Homestuck pledge to $300 to free up $100 of funds for... whatever else you need it for.
Again, I'm not trying to rain on some other project's parade. Just want you to know you're not stuck allocating your funds as you have. Yet.

Oh, I know that. But I have no intention of lowering my Homestuck level. :P

Well, looks like we just broke $27k, so we've got paper minis now. New stretch goals get an additional archetype for all 10 psionic classes in the book (and the one after that is the really useful GM section on how to change the flavor of psionics to fit your campaign). And there's still 4 open slots to get a character of your design on the GM screen (and IN the book).

Ballpark estimate? 600 pages?
The two books by themselves when combined would be about 400, factoring in the removal of the monsters section, the space that consolidation would save, and the like.
Add in the Items of Legend - about 20-30 pages, the new races and racial options - about 40 pages, the GM section - about 30 pages, new archetypes - about 5 pages, and the full Bestiary + 20 more monsters - at least 80 pages...
400+20+40+30+5+80 = 575. Factor in about 10 additional pages from the new full-page graphics and another 2 pages from the bonus prestige class... I'd say 600 is about where the limited edition stands.
And as Mav mentioned, we are over $27,000, so printable paper mini's are going to be included as a PDF for all backers $30 and up!
We've also got a new bonus coming when we hit 250 backers (only 19 away!)
When we hit 250 backers, all backers of $30 and up will get a mini-adventure of a psionic nature compliments of LPJ Design set in the NeoExodus campaign setting!
With all the stuff you get, if you have any intention of trying out psionics in your game, you need to check out this Ultimate Psionics kickstarter!

Here is some background about the upcoming adventure from LPJ Design: NeoExodus: The Silvered Skull -- Nestled high in the Grit Mountains the village of Oldenhaffen is famed for the quality of its wool. Passing through, the town elder runs to you imploring your assistance. Ever since a local shepherd brought back a silvered Cavian skull, things have gone... Insane. Anyone who touched the skull is now frozen in place, unmoving. A psionic-based NeoExodus adventure for 3rd-level characters.
We at LPJ Design want to thank the folks over at Dreamscarred Press for giving us the opportunity of adding this adventure to this great kickstarter and once again show the strength of 3PP working together to help support Pathfinder.
