The Grey Maidens Have Arrived

Friday, January 13, 2017

Well, hey there! You're all in for a treat. Erik is out on vacation (we make him do that every so often), and he has asked me to let you all see some of the awesome miniatures coming out in Pathfinder Battles: Crown of Fangs. Buckle up!

I'd like to start with the Grey Maiden Dragon Rider. This piece is based off of the fantastic cover art for the sixth volume of the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path, Crown of Fangs.

It depicts Sabina Merrin, the military leader of the Grey Maidens, astride the Black Dragon Zarmangarof. We think you'll agree, that whether you are running Curse of the Crimson Throne, or simply putting the fear of the gods in your players, this piece is one you will not want to miss. It is a rare, large miniature in the set.

Next, we have the Grey Maiden Guard, a great looking, highly versatile miniature that can be used by both players and GMs alike. I do like a lady in full plate. You may recognize this gorgeous figure from the cover of the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path Hardcover, which brings this epic adventure up to full Pathfinder deadliness. This figure is a medium sized, common.

Finally, we have the Grey Maiden Archer, for those of you that like shooting stuff while wearing the best armor you can get your hands on. Anyone looking to play a ranged fighter or paladin should strongly consider picking this up. It is also featured in the gorgeous new Curse of the Crimson Throne Hardcover. It will be a medium, uncommon figure.

That's all for this week. Keep your eyes peeled for more awesome figures coming your way next week!

Hah, apparently I can't read. Zarmangarof looks pretty awesome. Glad to see all the grey maidens, too.

I'm guessing that Zarmangarof and his friend are the case incentive this release? Makes me sad to miss out on it. It looks pretty awesome. Glad to see all the grey maidens, too.

The Throne Room Set will be the case incentive.

All 3 of these figures look pretty great to me, esp. with the last 2 as commons.

Hey Mike, thank you for making it possible for us to get miniature previews while Erik is in his well deserved family vacation.
I hope you'll have a great MLK weekend too.

The minis are great:
-the common guard (4-5 in a case),
-the uncommon archer (3-4 in a case)
-the rare leader (1 in a case)

See you next friday?

Well that's one thing I was hoping for, now I will get the dragon mounted maiden - extremely nice- and a for version, since the mini looks to be a pretty close match.

Thank you for finally producing an archer maiden, that was always a gap in my collection after the first maidens.

All three are good, solid choices and like Marco has implied the distribution looks to be spot on for them.

My only reservation: I hope they are a colour match for the ones previously released in shattered star. Maybe we can get a side-by-side comparison shot when you have the production minis in house?

Now the dragon. Is it my imagination or does Zarmangarof bear more than a passing resemblance to the incentive piece from heroes and monsters?

Good catch, Cat-thulhu, I think you're right. Which to my mind, makes it even better; if the rider gets off the dragon, you could put down the riderless mini.

The two Maidens look like awesome minis, and I'm thrilled to see one is a common! I say again, I hope the rich reds come through well. How do the people who worry about such things feel about the way the armor boobs are rendered here? (I almost said "handled", and thought better of it ;-)

I might have to jump at the chance to grab a few Grey Maidens. They look awesome.

Waw, I'm iin awe. I might just have to postpone the finale of my Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign to wait for these minis ...

Wonderful preview, thanks for filling in and have fun Erik!

Unbelievably excited for this! I didn't get nearly enough of the Gray Maidens from Shattered Star.

Plus, if this comes out in the April-May period, it'll be the perfect celebration for something else. ^_^

I like the idea of using the Heroes & Monsters Black Dragon as the rider
ess version, even if it isn't the exact same sculpt. The real question is whether I am brave enough to rebase it as a large... I hate to devalue minis, but it looks like it could fit on a large base (with serious overhang).

Wow! Amazing, can't wait!

I want six of the Maidens with swords and 2 to 4 of the archers. They look awesome! I wonder if there are any other Maidens in the set? I'd like one with a spear.

I will buy the hell out of that Sabina mini.

That's interesting. I rebase A LOT of minis because overhand really bothers me (as do tiny minis swimming in the middle of huge black discs. I'd be a lot more likely to up this one to Huge (like the old one).

But, yeah, I love that we will now be able to do Sabina on dragon as well as Sabina and dragon separately.

please let both wings be removable/required to assemble

If you look at the base of the wings, it looks like they're assembled. (plugged in)

My Clockwork Dragon from the Deadly Foes-set had the same. :)

They do in fact look similar. I can say that they are based off of different reference, and that their stance is the most efficient way to get them on their bases without taking up twice their size in unfurled wings and lashing tails :).

On another note:

The "Giant Eagle" is the only miniature from "Deadly Foes" that isn´t sold out! All other 49 minis are gone from Paizo´s stock.
The Giant Eagle is also worth it´s price (three reviews give it 5 stars, one by me).
