I usually do dice for character creation, but as long as the stats look reasonable either dice or point buy is fine.
For a playtest, I would be apt to go the point buy route. Takes the randomness of dice out of the picture when trying to determine class balance.
Either way works for me. What dice method? straight 3d6, 4d6 drop lowest? If you were to do point buy, how many points?

I usually do 4d6 drop lowest. If you want to do point buy, 20 points should do it. What I normally do is have players roll scores, and before they assign the numbers to actual ability scores they tell me what they are and if it seems a bit unbalanced or uninteresting I'll have them change one or two. That's kind of a tedious route if I'm not right in the room, though. I don't really stress the specifics of the ability scores to much, because the classes should be more-or-less playable even if you have terrible (or ridiculously good) scores.

Ok. Dice rolls it is. Let's see what we get.
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6, 5) = 18 => 16
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 2) = 16 => 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 3, 3) = 16 => 13
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 5, 6) = 14 => 13
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 5) = 17 => 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 3) = 16 => 14
Based on point-buy that would be 33 pts. Pretty darn good rolls.
Going with the Ahli Wayfinder; adding the +2 to Wisdom (Using the 15 there). Will end up as an archer type for combat, but otherwise I plan on re-working a character from a failed play-by-post (LINK) in terms of backstory and personality. Obviously I will have to change a fair amount to fit into your campaign setting, but that's the baseline anyway.
STR: 13 (+1)
DEX: 16 (+3)
CON: 14 (+2)
INT: 14 (+2)
WIS: 17 (+3)
CHA: 13 (+1)
Spell Points = (0 Class + 1 Stat + 1 Race) = 2
Skill Points = (6 Class + 2 Stat) = 8

Sorry about the silence. I just had time to find the discussion thread this morning. I'll make my rolls now and then finish my character this weekend if that is ok with all of you. It has been a crazy week and half since I got back from vacation.
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 3, 6) = 20: 17
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 3) = 14: 12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 5) = 15: 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 3) = 13: 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4, 3) = 15: 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 3) = 11: 9
I'm playing the rogue.

That sounds good. I'm working on a Talven mystic of Dausina. Energy (fire) discipline and the Fire and Sun domains. This character seems blast-tastic, which should be fun and is something the standard rules do not normally allow for a divine character.

Caleb is pretty much done. Being at the northern end of the Vlasc Empire and near a desert, I'm curious as to which kind of desert it is (cold, temperate, or hot)
Also how do you feel about holding onto feats to spend at a later date. I would like to do the Animal Companion feat, but needing 2 rank of Handle Animal puts a damper on that until level 2.

Questions:
The Mystic progression references bonus feats. What list is that drawn from?
For a Talven, can I assume that Talven and Common are automatic languages, regardless of Int bonus?
What is the starting gold?
I need to do equipment and give the character another lookover, but I think the main parts are down.

Almost done with my character, but I some questions.
Weapons Finesse
Your document says you are using 3.5 feats. I am considering choosing weapons finesse. In 3.5 that feat requires a BAB of +1. However, in Pathfinder, there is no prerequisite. In your rules, do I need to meet the +1 BAB requirement in order to use that feat?
Starting Gold
For now, I am using the average starting wealth for a rogue per Pathfinder rules (140 gp). Is this correct?
Traits
Will you be using Pathfinder Traits? For now, I assume no.

Sorry for being absent, I was a little busier than I expected and I burnt out a bit.
Caleb: it is a hot desert, and if you feel like holding a feat in reserve until level 2 I won't stop you.
Venark: there is no real Mystic bonus feat list, because the class is so versatile, so it's really any feat you meet the requirements for. And yes, you gain Talven as an automatic language, as well as any other languages you can justify speaking.
Thoroar: You do need the BAB requirement for weapon finesse, and we are using Pathfinder starting gold (for mystic and wayfinder use cleric and ranger starting gold, respectively).

I really need to get a new avatar. It's the closest I could find to the actual character description, but...
... he kinda looks sorta familiar.
Also, already falling into this trope.
