darth_borehd's Untitled Campaign
Game Master

This is an idea I've had for a while about a class elimination tournament.
Contestants would choose a class and submit the best character they can make. They are then teleported to an arena where they fight each other one-on-one. The winners advance to the next round.
Each class will be represented by one contestant. Once a class has been chosen, other players must choose another class.
Those that advance to the next round are advanced in XP by one level.
At the end, the winner and the class played will be crowned the winner of the year.
I'm trying to find out how much interest there is for such a game.
Why not write Arcanist initiative optimization guide instead?
are we starting at level one?
There is also a big question of ammo and terrain.
I'd try it (with an alchemist).
My plan is for everybody to start at level 1.
Ammo and consumables can be repurchased with standard WBL when leveling up.
I want to have 4 or 6 battlefield maps randomly chosen when the match begins.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

I will do it, will go warpriest

Might be fun to have some varying conditions like low light, lots of undergrowth, places to hide, climb, etc.

could be fun, ill be a barbarian!
Character guidelines?
Max Gold?
Roll for stats or PB?
Archetypes allowed?
Psionics?
Anything else I ay have missed?
If archetypes are allowed, I will go with Zen Archer Monk :) as my first choice.
Definitely dotting for interest.
* Right now, the plan is to start at level 1.
* No psionics or psychic magic.
* Any archetype is allowed from allowed sources (list to follow).
* 20 point buy
* Max hp at 1st level, average hp for all others.
Thoughts on any of these?

What should be done with craft skills and feats?
Option 1: Ignore them.
Option 2: They give you a discount when buying items.
I say go the PFS route. That is not only ignore them, but use their replacements for classes that get craft stuff automatically.
I claim monk. Going to go dwarf zen archer.
Is there prep time before the fight?
Gold to start with?
Are consumables allowed?

* There is a 50% chance of one round of prep time, otherwise none.
* Average gold
* Yes, buy what you want.
* Performance combat rules from Ultimate Combat will be used.
I would be interested in the Arcanist.
Am I understanding correctly that it is the same character gaining levels and not full rebuilds going on at each level?
I could see a Witch doing really well in this.
Can I get Summoner?
And a "recap" of the rules would be great. You have them sort of spread out over a bunch of posts as everyone asks questions.

Looks like there is a decent amount of interest. Are we looking at going forward, or did you want to wait for more peeps?

Sorry, I can't go back and edit old posts.
I get a "file not found" error when trying to pull that up.

Any problems with me going tetori monk? its better for snapping the necks of puny casters.

The reason im even asking is because the only monk tht has posted is an archer monk, witch might as well be a different class. I want to make a grappler, Tetori has an ability to suppress FoM at lvl 9. If its not allowed i will probably go with something else besides brawler, like arcanist.
meeko wrote: Any problems with me going tetori monk? its better for snapping the necks of puny casters. Sorry, somebody else already got monk and arcanist. I put you down for brawler.
Where are the "cleric or druid-zillas"? The "Being a God" wizards?
We need to fill more slots. :)
Maybe allow people to do 2 characters? Or people that are eliminated to come back with a different class?
I would second allowing two classes, the only problem being if they wound up fighting themselves they would need to provide another player with there sheet.
if we do this, I would like to grab magus as my secondary.
Hey darth, I will give my monk selection to meeko. If okay with you I will go wizard than. I was tossing between the two choices to be honest :)
Just let me know which one I have so I can get a pc ready :)
---------
I would second that eliminated players could make another class that was not chosen and they can start a "new" bracket once enough players are available.

yay!
gilthanis thank you!
I can't wait to snap your wizards neck in two! <3
Sort of a stupid question, but let's make sure :)
Spell casters WILL have time to memorize their spells for the day BEFORE combat, correct?
More specifically, in my case (Summoner): I will have time to summon my eddy before combat, right?
We will see about that meeko lol

so where do we post our blocks? do we keep them secret? how will combat work exactly?
For the record, I'm going to show you all exactly why I'm no longer allowed to play bards. RUE THE DAY, MORTALS! BWA HA HA HA HAHAHAHAHAHA!
"of course you have to practice. You think Bad Horse never practiced his horrible death whinny?" -Dr. Horrible
i am ready to go as well :)
I too would like to know how combat is gonna work?
** How much room between people?
** 50% chance of 1 round prep time?
** Can we craft our own non-magic consumables (ie acid/alchemist fire)?
** Random terrain or all flat level ground?
** anything else helpful?
he said earlier that there will be random maps, so I would assume nothing into your planning when looking at prep, as far as terrain goes. I would also assume that you might get long duration buffs (hour/level, maybe 10 min/level) but I would guess that min/level and shorter would probably be during the fight.
this is, of course, just my assumptions based on how I would run such a game.
I had messaged the DM and one of the questions I asked was the first one you did "How much room between people?"
His response was that it would be random, between 30 an 100 ft.
Also, I would HOPE we don't post our characters here. What if someone has a surprise? How would you keep it a secret then?
