I'm checking to see if there's any interest to play Way of the Wicked, Fire Mountain Games' awesome Evil campaign.
5 player spots available.
You're in a cell in the worst place of all of Andoran : Branderscar Prison. This is the place where the most dangerous criminals go, for the short rest of their life. You and your cellmates have only a few things in common: You've been caught. You're guilty. And in three days from now, you'll be hung, beheaded or beyond all hints of civilisation, deep in the nation's Salt mines.
Your mind is already working on a plan to not let any of that happen.
character generation
Check out the official player's guide for the character generation method.
We'll be using the Focus & Foible method described in that PDF - please post your 4x 1d10+7 rolls when signing up. If you end up with a total of less than 44, you'll get a reroll until your total reaches 44+.
Characters are required to be of Lawful Evil alignment. Check out this link for excellent inspiration.
Please consider in your backstory the reason or the life event that caused you to turn evil.
house rules
rule #1 If it's fun for everyone, it's likely to work.
I prefer to play by the rules, but if your character comes up with a great in-character solution to a situation, that moves the story forward but requires bending or breakage of rules, then the rules shall go bye bye for a little while.
Along the same lines, if during a battle the party is clearly on the winning side, I'll propose to move things forward, unless the story benefits from playing things out to the bitter, messy end.
The original module runs outside Golarion for copyright reasons; However, to make people feel more at home, we'll be playing in Andoran instead of Talingarde, and we'll have to worry about Sarenrae instead of Mitra. Some more hacks will be necessary along the way, but I'm sure we'll get by.
me
I'm a software developer by trade. I've been a tabletop GM for almost 10 years, but this will be my first PbP game.
Feel free to suggest anything, but once I've posted a decision, it'll probably stay that way (and your tip *will* be remembered for the next time.)
questions
Any?

Sindran Eithe |

Definitely interested! Sindran Eithe is my Lawful Evil Half-Orc Oracle meant for this campaign. I'll have to do some tweaking to fit the new stats but it should be okay.
Strength 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Dexterity 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Constitution 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Intelligence 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Foible: Wisdom 8
Focus: Charisma 20 (+2 Half-Orc)
Ouuuch. Kind of low strength and constitution. Need to tweak my combat style now. *tweak*
Are we also using the house rule of two more skill points per level? As well as the trait system, with the crime counting as one of the traits?

Haldhin |

Thanks for offering to DM, posting for interest.
Would you accept an anti-paladin with a Lawful Evil alignment? Not sure that's the character I would submit, but I'm considering it if allowed.
Also, how often do you expect to be able to post updates, and what kind of schedule do you expect from the players?
Stats:

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Wow, nice to see so much interest so soon.
Dordur, no skype, sorry. The best part of PbP is that you can use 15 minutes spare time as game time, so we'll use the paizo.com gameplay thread / discussion thread system.
I'm hoping for at least one update per day from the players at at least 5 per week or we'll not be getting anywhere soon.
FYI, my timezone is GMT + 1 (Netherlands)

Malkan |

I would like to join if there is still room. If you want a arcane spell caster I'm going to make a sorcerer for this game, hopefully to use sooner than later.
I have done one play by post before. I can post often, and if accepted I would be happy to participate and contribute more.
I will post more information later, but I wanted to get something in quickly to show my interest.

Arryn Lerash |

Arryn Lerash, at your service. This is Tanis's Character submission.
I would like to note that I will be able to post multiple times a day, and very much look forward to this game, and hope to be accepted. These submissions look good, so I understand if I'm out. Good luck to you all!

Read about Focus&Foible method, and I just need a confirmation, since I believe I know the answer. Once you assign your attributes, do racial modifications come into play, or not? For example, if I choose human, and put 18 in STR, can I put Human +2 modifier to STR, or any other ability for that matter?
I would say no, but I would really appreciate if GM could clarify this. Thanks

Caladwhen |

Well, I'm thinking this might be a perfect chance for an Elf or Half-Elf Necromancer. Let's see what the rolls turn up.
Focus: 18 Intelligence
Foible: 8 Strength
Dexterity: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Constitution: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Wisdom: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Charisma: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Edit: Not bad. Are we allowed to swap stats at all, or are they stationary to where we rolled? If not, here is the final.
Final:
Strength: 8
Dexterity: 10
Constitution: 11
Intelligence: 20
Wisdom: 16
Charisma: 17

Huzzah! Thank ya muchly.

Racial modifications are acceptable AFTER base stats are done. Like for my character, I have a 20 in charisma because I chose it as my Focus and then added the +2 stat modifier to it.
So yes, you can put your modifiers anywhere you want to after the initial rolls.
Are we allowed to swap stats at all, or are they stationary to where we rolled?
Officially, they are done in order and you can't move your rolled stats.
There are house rules that allow you to swap if you want though, so it's up to the GM though I don't think we're using that.

a racial bonus can be applied after the rolls, so if you're clever you can end up with one ability at a whopping 20 to start with. This may seem much, but trust me, you'll need it ;)
Also, with plenty of people for two groups already, if you're thinking of submitting a character please do so *within the next two hours*. I do not like to turn down people, and it looks like I'll already have to :-)

Malkan,
Neutral Evil sounds a bit too 'meh, I just care about myself' to me, whereas this campaign will only have any chance to work if those involved actually want to rule the land, or the world for that matter.
So I'm going to need a pretty darn good story from you as to why you're not lawful. you're welcome to either switch to lawful evil or sell me with your awesome idea :)

![]() |

Akuhei, Mokkan, Malkan and Caladwhen, I'd love to hear a little backstory.
Talon/Zed, I'm not too happy with the fly speed of your funky race. Would you be angry with the guards of Branderscar, if they had clipped your wings - knowing they would need a couple of months to grow back (mechanically, until you reach level 5 where arcane casters get Fly anyway?)

I was hoping for a chance to do this, but for a good back story I'll need to know a little bit about the world. I just need a little common knowledge stuff, I don't want to metagame; I just know very little about the setting so far. The Players guide mentions the nation of Talingarde, and its turn toward monotheism and lawful-good during the rise of King Markadian and house Darians.
It doesn't mention anything about what happened during the fall of the pantheon of gods and the old political regime, I'd imagine that would be a time of cultural conflict and civil war in the state; but I don't know.If the interesting and turbulent times above occurred during my lifetime I imagine they would have a dramatic effect on shaping my life.
I'm picturing a character was born a sorcerer with a red draconic bloodline. He was raised to be good, and believed himself to be good, and did good deeds while serving in the Talirean military, or a mercenary company. Putting his powers to use for the state during times of conflict. Over time he has been exposed to the horrors of war, desperation from inequality, and greed and selfishness. As he saw the friends and comrades die or turn it weakened altruistic views, until he lived in a 'kill or be killed' kind of existence; changing his motives to a more neutral perspective. Self-interest grew into hatred, and he resented the god Mitra, and the overbearing state.
He becomes evil over time and his red draconic nature overrode his nurturing, and he has become more violent, vengeful, and hateful. Leading him to where he is now.

Malkan Here
I have made a new alias for this game. I'll organize a character sheet here.
If my alignment is a problem I can shift it, but what I had so far didn't feel strongly lawful despite having strong convictions; and the combat experience had made him a little weird and paranoid to make a more interesting character. With more information I will build a better backstory.

Forgery:You have forged documents issued either by the crown or by the Church of Mitra. Alas, that your forgery while competent was not entirely undetectable. Punishment: Life at hard labor in the salt mines
Benefit: You gain a +3 trait bonus to Linguistics skill checks to commit forgery and Linguistics is always a class skill for you

Many years passed, and Aerent was born. From birth, he was conditioned to venerate Furcas and his domains. The training was brutal, but Aerent excelled in every test. The infernal priests in the family declared him to be a holy warrior of Laurels, able to stand face-to-face with the enemies of their church and defeat them. Everyone was ecstatic - the family's fortunes had finally turned, and they had finally found a leader who could provide the means by which they could reclaim their rightful place in Andoran! A massive celebration was planned in which Aerent would receive a ritual tattoo of a blood red laurel across his brow.
Unfortunately, Furcas knew too well the weakness that had infested the older members of the Sephim line. The family was betrayed and the witch hunters gathered to assault their forest stronghold. The priests tending to Aerent were interrupted before they finished their work, leaving Aerent with only a portion of the laurel tattoo completed.
While the witch hunters quickly subdued the priests, they approached Aerent unsure if he was a willing participant or an innocent victim. Taking advantage of their confusion, Aerent quickly grabbed a sword and took the battle to them, screaming praises to Furcas, and decrying Sarenrae as a "Weakling whore diety of sub-human scum". He managed to injure several of his attackers before being overcome by sheer numbers.
He awoke to learn that he was being transported to Branderscar Prison on charges of Heresy, along with a host of other crimes. Though distraught at the circumstances, a strange calm came over him and he clearly heard a deep voice, as if from a great distance, "Patience, my son. Patience."
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Reroll#1:1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
removing the "10" to get 44 or more.
For your viewing pleasure Tin Cornbloom
Edit: yeah ignore the reroll. I am evil. What did you expect??

wolfman1911 |

Here is Sotha Zyn, an Elf Magus I've wanted to play for a while. I have a character sheet, and I'll post it once I've editted it to fit with the new stats.
Strength: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Dexterity: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 +2
Constitution: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 -2
Intelligence=18+2
Wisdom: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Charisma=8
So, final stats are:
Strength= 11
Dexterity= 18
Constitution= 8
Intelligence= 20
Wisdom= 9
Charisma= 8
I have no idea what the thing about less than 44 means, so I'm going with this until further notice. That constitution is going to be tough, but I'll deal with it.
Sotha Zyn belongs to a family of elves that has been deeply entrenched in the running of Andoran since its founding. The family patriarch died leading soldiers against Cheliax, since then, the Zyn family has been known for having representation among the Eagle Knights, in the People's Council and among the merchant class. Sotha, however, had little interest in all of that. He had always been interested in studying, whether magic, history, or whatever else, and so he balked at the expectation of his family to serve in the Andoran military. Eventually, he gave in, on the condition that he would become a soldier as long as he could continue to study magic.
He seemed to take a completely different view of life in the military after becoming a Magus. He poured himself into his training, and before long, his sword arm was as strong as his mind. After finishing his training, he was sent to the Darkmoon Vale to protect the border from the more dangerous inhabitants. While stationed there, he made the effort to learn to speak with them, the better to overhear their plans, he called it. Unknown to others, he would meet with the creatures they were fighting, goblins, possibly, and he managed to convince them to surrender to his company. It later turned out that Sotha had been abusing his position as quartermaster's assistant to pass along weapons to the goblins in exchange for a token force of them to surrender.
The surrender of the goblins was part of a plan. He figured that if hostilities ceased by his hand, he would get an audience with the Supreme Elect. He was right, though to his dismay, the audience was in the company of his comrades, making Sotha's plan harder to put into effect, and nearly impossible to survive. Even so, when the Supreme Elect came to him to offer congratulations, Sotha cast True Strike and stabbed at the king. The strike would have been fatal if not for the soldier next to him reacting quickly enough. Sotha surrendered immediately, and found his way to Branderscar Prison afterward.
No one knows why Sotha tried to kill the Supreme Elect, he has said nothing of it, and in fact, during his trial he had claimed that madness had overtaken him, and that he was unaware of what he'd done. The truth is that Sotha himself doesn't know why he did it. What he knows is that for some time, he has been heeding the counsel of a voice in his head, one that appeals to his pride, and suggests things that he might do, things that he deserves to do. Whatever the voice is, Sotha trusts it well enough to put his life in it's hands. Make no mistake, Sotha was never a righteous, or even decent person; he has always been selfish, petty and cruel. It is just that he might have slipped through the cracks if not for the voice to inspire him.
For the record, the voice in his head is the Black Blade making contact with him. It will continue to urge him on until he hits level three and actually aquires the weapon, at which point it will behave as usual.

I was a little confused by the 44 thing too, I put my scores in a point buy calculator and it said I had 33.
If we are supposed to hit at least 44 in point buy in rolled stats I'm going to re-roll Constitution to get closer to the target number.
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: not quite there, I'll try Intelligence too.
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Again
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
--------------------------------------------------------------------
That did it
