One thing I thought that might help to for initial combat encounter character placement is a marching order.
Here is my take on a marching order, but let me know if you want to change anything.
Single Wide 5'
Bel'Tanis
Scoria
Thaddeus
Midori
Khrondak
Notick
Double Wide 10'?

Scoria the Stalwart |

Hmm. Scoria does need to replace the Shuriken she's already used. 12 MW Shuriken should be 73gp 2sp, (50 ammunition gaining full MW price, Shurken sold at 5 units for 1gp, 50 shuriken being 10gp, MW +300gp, 310gp for 50, 10 being 61gp, 2 more adding 12gp 2sp.)
Anyways, does anyone mind Scoria buying the Shuriken? Since it's a communal gold pile now.

Thaddeus Pruitt |

Do shuriken act like ammunition? They break after a hit or are recovered 50% of the time? I guess they do, Yuk, that sucks. I think they would be more like daggers.
I have no problem if you want to buy MW ammo, it just always seemed like a waste with the limited use aspect. Granted, it may have to wait until we return from our trek after the gobbo graverobbers.

Midori Masaki |

Just a heads-up: My family and I (me, hubby, daughter [who's now 19!)] are going on a vacation trip this week. We're leaving Tuesday and will be back late Sunday.
We're taking a lap-top so I should be able to post at least once a day except Tuesday.
Itinerary:
Tuesday - drive to Orlando
Wednesday- if need be finish drive, then alternate Universal/Islands Of Adventure
Thursday - alternate Universal/Islands Of Adventure, night time for the haunted stuff
Friday - drive to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, park stuff & haunted stuff
Saturday - drive to King's Dominion, park stuff and haunted stuff
Sunday - drive home, collapse
I'm not abandoning anything, but I may not be real coherent
To save time, DM-Valkur, you have permission to NPC me during any fights.

Khrondak Iron Forged |

Hey guys, just wanted to inform that on top of a killer week on my job, my fianceé's grandfather passed away this morning and we'll be attending the funeral. Long story short, I won't be able to post for at least until tonight, hope to find some time later so as to not let you guys down. See you later.

Khrondak Iron Forged |

They were close, yes; he had been living with her parents for the last couple of years and we saw him often. But, he was 94, so it wasn't completely unexpected. We're glad he was lucid and well and didn't spend his last years sick in a bed, it started last week and progressed kind of fast, so for the most part I think he didn't suffer much or burden anyone.
Thanks for your words and understanding. Anyways, I'm back now. :)

Scoria the Stalwart |

On the subject of loot, I'm of the opinion of Need before Greed. For example, Scoria would probably get a lower share of the loot, due to not needing as much expensive equipment, while our other fighters may need MW equipment soon enough. Midori in particular needs a ranged weapon, I think, and the only thing that Scoria might need are some MW shuriken, since she's a flurry thrower.
So, in summary, we should just agree to buy as we need, like potions and scrolls for our spellcasters and MW weapons for our fighters.

Khrondak Iron Forged |

As long as no one gets frustrated and everybody has access to cool magic items, I'm fine with a communal pool. In-character, Khrondak will behave as if he's entitled to a share.
And I'm fine with buying Midori a crossbow. :)

Thaddeus Pruitt |

Okay, so I will be going through the motions of "paying" each member their "share" when it comes to loot? In the end it will all be IC, but OOC we are just pooling, buy what is needed for each member.
Scoria, I do have a question about the MW Shuriken. It costs 29.5 gp more gold for 5 shuriken to be MW. The price is 30 times more than a regular one, but it is only a one shot item. As ammunition, if it hits, it is destroyed. If it misses, there's only a 50% chance it can be re-used. I'm not saying no, or even that it's my decision, I'm just asking if you are sure it's worth the extra cost, and you really want to spend it?
It's a +1 to hit, on 12 throws (or as flurries 6 rounds of combat) for 73gp.

Khrondak Iron Forged |

I've never been a fan of spending on ammunition, I just don't think it's worth it... usually I save for bigger rewards later.
Ok, I've just realized the upside of having split shares - spend however you want without having to negotiate with the other players.

Notick Mostriaré |

But but but... What about the townsfolk!
Just keeding!! I'm, personally, more prone to prefer even split in finances. It eliminates the need to rationalize other people's purchases, and it also prevents jealousy of items.
E.G. - A +10 Falcata of Awesome is offered for 2000 gold, and a +10 Earthbreaker of Horror is offered for 2000 gold. It's the only time in the game it would be offered. Who gets what they want?
However, I wouldn't mind OOCly hybridizing our money so it's even split, but someone could ask for help to purchase something, in which we then can offer to pay up to help (Like everyone is willing to do for Midori!)

Scoria the Stalwart |

I'm planning on optimizing Scoria's build to be about hitting hard with shuriken flurries - a lot of Sacred Mountain abilities stem on her staying in the same square. MW Shuriken may seem expensive, considering that they're consumed, yes - but at these lower levels, having that +1 to hit makes a big difference when it comes to combat. Though she'd probably save them for when she really needed the extra accuracy.

Bel'Tanis |

I can't get to any shared document sites like google docs or google drive or whatever it's called these days from the office, but if we want to go with the shares method I can put together a spread sheet when I get home tonight.
While I'm not a huge fan of lots of bookkeeping in my games (my players track money, but not weight or encumberance for instance) it seems like it might be helpful in this case.
Let me know if that's something you all would like me to put together. If it'll help, I'll be happy to do it.

Thaddeus Pruitt |

Okay, so what I'm hearing is a preference for even splits.
Here's what I'm thinking -
Coin: Split 7 ways, (1 share each, 1 party pool)
Items: Go to whoever needs it most, if no one will use it, it gets sold
Sold Items: The money from all sold items goes to the coin split. That means even if say Midori finds a +1 shortbow, uses it from finding to selling, it is not her money from selling, it is shared money.
To do otherwise means having to track the value of each and every item, each member receives, to account for equal value. It is just easier to split all sold items amongst the whole, even if they were used exclusively by only one person.
EDIT: Bel'Tanis, we shouldn't need a doc, if we are only tracking coin shares. Which is another reason it is easier with all coin (even from sold items) going to split. That way we either have items we are using, items we are selling, and each coin share. Once you get into each person's WBL value based on what they have/use, then you run the headache of excess bookkeeping. Sometimes, it's just a whole lot easier to put it all in one big pile, and buy what we as a party need for the party.

Bel'Tanis |

In that case, with the 726 gp we earned from the spoils of the raid, that'd be a party split of 103.7gp for each of the 6 party members and 103.8gp to the group share?
EDIT: Just saw Thaddeus' in-game post. I'm fine with splitting evenly to the gold piece and any extra silvers/coppers going into the party fund if that works for everyone.

Thaddeus Pruitt |

I just figured rounding to the nearest gold, with all spillage going to party pool, would be a cleaner split. Do we really want to break it down to the last copper?
EDIT: Just saw Bel'Tanis' edit. Disregard, unless this is also an issue.

Notick Mostriaré |

Big storm rolling in on Virginia and the Carolina's. There was another storm that went through the mid-west, which when it meets the hurricane, is suppose to cause even more turmoil.
Heart's with'ya Bel'Tanis. Stay safe!

Midori Masaki |

Pittsburgh here. They're saying it could get this far.
Oh, and just a tiny bit of humor: there's a movie called Superstorm. When I saw all the indicators for Frankenstorm, they looked a lot like the setup for this.

Bel'Tanis |

No sweat, Valkur. In a similar vein, I'll be travelling for the weekend and won't be back until Tuesday night. I should have reliable internet access throughout, so I doubt it'll be a problem but I could be wrong.
I still kinda feel like I need to talk about the unfortunate sequence of events at the general store with the group and with Ameiko before we head off into the next thing though. Hopefully Ameiko might have some insight as a long-time member of the community into how to best deal with the store owner and his amorous daughter. =\
