Damn Hurin! you got me beat! xD

Howdy y'all! I know a few of you have expressed interest in going to GenCon, so I thought I'd give you a price breakdown on what it costs for the necessaries like hotel and parking and food. The numbers here are just for the hotel we stay at, the JW Marriott, which I really like. It's a brand-new hotel and has three restaurants, two bars, a starbucks, and plenty of other perks, so I dig it. I dunno how much room prices differ from hotel to hotel downtown, but I can't imagine it's all that different, esp. during an event as huge as GC. So anyway, here's the basics. These numbers assume you're staying at the JW Marriott, with four people in a room, and that you carpooled down. If that's the case, here's what you pay in one day:

============================================

Room: $52.50
Parking: $9
Various Taxes: $14
Food: $30

Total room expenses for one day at Con: $105.50
Badge price (one-time fee): $70
Events (one-time fee, averaged): $34
Gas money (one-time fee): $10

TOTAL COST for Wednesday-Sunday: $536
TOTAL COST for Wednesday-Monday: $641.50

============================================

Obviously, you can save money by spending less on food and events, but I'm aiming for a realistic number here that allows you to not go broke but still do a lot of the stuff you go to GenCon to do, namely eat great food and play a LOT of games. The gas thing is a variable number, too, of course. I'm sure some folks ask more or less depending on how stingy or chill they are, and depending on how many passengers they have. The parking fee is just the daily parking cost split four ways. The taxes are on an individual basis. I know you can also save $$ by staying farther away, but then you have to deal with daily parking and/or taking a shuttle into the city. I did that once and hated it, but YMMV.

So yeah! Hope this helps with budgeting. Housing opens in January, and you gotta move fast!

Male Dwarf Fighter 7/Barbarian 2 AC29 HP128 F+14 W+6 R+6 Perception +14

Man I have dreamed of going to Gencon for decades.

How far away are you?

I imagine the fare from Texas might be a bit more.

Aye, it's a 16-18 hour drive from Houston to Indy, at 35-40 gallons of gas depending on MPG. Flights are in the $350-$400 range depending on when you leave and whatnot. Unless you could get a bunch of folks from TX to go with, flying would definitely be smarter, obvs.

Hey guys, anyone wanna be a pal and murder that Ice Lich for me? I've got cookies, if that will sweeten the deal.

While I have no solid reason as to why, both Jorzan (who has his own reasons) and I feel that maybe we shouldn't destroy the Mothermind. Perhaps it's just my sense of plot narrative, but I kinda feel like like DRA wouldn't have put it here just for us to kill. But then again, he is a devious little GM when he wishes to be. So really, I'm mostly undecided.

If that all seems to meta-gamey to anyone though, please just ignore. T'was merely my 2cp.

It had better be. Or so help me, I will turn this adventuring party right around...

Somewhat belatedly, sorry to see you go, Gray.

Does Jorzan have the Trapfinding class ability or did he trade it in for something else from an archetype? I'm not seeing it in his profile but it's possible I'm just missing it.

Male Human Rogue(Poisoner) 5/ Shadowdancer 6| AC23 T17 F18; HP 88/88, CMD 22, F/R/W 6/14/7, Percep +20 Drkvsn 60', Init +6

No he doesn't. The Poisoner Archtype trades it in for Poison Use. To my understanding, as a Rogue, since it's part of his Class Skills, he can still train for Disable Device but he doesn't get the bonus' that Trapfinding gives. Oh, and re-reading it, I guess it also means he can't disable Magic Traps. Have I ever had Jorzan do that??

I'm sure you know, Perception can be used by anyone to spot traps.

That seem about right?

Yup, I know Perception is used for finding traps and whatnot. This was specifically about magic traps. Thanks!

Your perception and REF just saved your a$$. :-)

Can I get a quick roll call on who's going where? As far as I know, Justahl and Hurin are heading down the tunnel to the mine proper. Nasmarra and Kelne, what are you two doing? Also, are you just leaving the guards behind all trussed up? Just want to make sure I don't move things along before people are ready...

Phew! lol

OK, ya ninja'd me there anyway, else I wouldn't have included the Aid Another ; )

Would there be space between the traps DRA for Jorzan to throw something between them? Like to possibly set off the traps in the room? Also, were there traps on the ceiling? And how high is it? (If it's covered in ice too though, scratch that idea)

@Kelne: And hey! What are you doing with the monkey guy with no legs that you saved? Strapping him to your back??

Jorzan wrote:

Every surface is trapped, including the ceiling. The ceiling is 20' up. There's no way to throw anything into the room without setting off the traps around the window -- the whole thing is covered by a magical field, much like a Wall of Force.

Male Human Rogue(Poisoner) 5/ Shadowdancer 6| AC23 T17 F18; HP 88/88, CMD 22, F/R/W 6/14/7, Percep +20 Drkvsn 60', Init +6

Ahhhh, I envisioned bars. Ok. Hmmmm...

Is there any thing sitting out on the desks or what have you that looks like it could be read? Like if he sent Zan in to do it?

Also, would Jorzan be aware if incorporeal beings would set off magical traps or not?

And I'm assuming Jorzan doesn't see anyone/being/animate Thing in the room ?

The room is empty; there's no one inside (that you can see), there are no papers or anything out, and it is quite possible that Zan could set off traps in this room. It would remind Jorzan of certain scholars' offices that he saw back in Stormfare, the offices of Professors who spent most of their time traveling the Land, only infrequently returning to their quarters in the university. This room has that same sort of "abandoned" air to it.

Ok, I think this is my last idea here...how big is the desk, how far away is it, and can Jorzan tell if it, too is trapped?

The desk is fairly large (roughly 3'L x 6'W x 3'H), and is made of a carved solid block of ice that grows right out of the floor. It's about 45' away, and you can't tell if it's trapped -- it's too far away.

Male Human Rogue(Poisoner) 5/ Shadowdancer 6| AC23 T17 F18; HP 88/88, CMD 22, F/R/W 6/14/7, Percep +20 Drkvsn 60', Init +6

Ok, yup, that's too far away for him to port and make it back from. So, I gives up! Thanks for your patience ; )

Once the issue with the Mothermind is decided, Jorzan is ready to go.

Justahl, Kelne, Hurin, no opinion?

Male Dwarf Fighter 7/Barbarian 2 AC29 HP128 F+14 W+6 R+6 Perception +14

It seems the people here are killing them. Nasmarra says kill it, but right now its no threat. Hurin thinks it is best to move on than expend energies that are not required at this time.

I don't like the 'Kill it!' option. The fact that it wanted to talk, to ask for help, that gets consideration from me.

Male Dwarf Fighter 7/Barbarian 2 AC29 HP128 F+14 W+6 R+6 Perception +14

Devils want to talk too . . . So does Hannibal Lechtor

Male Human Fighter 8, Ranger 3

As I understand it, we lack the appropriate weaponry to kill it in any case. Still, I think this probably warrants an IC discussion, so I'll kick one off.

Male Human Fighter 8, Ranger 3

Or I could go with the "let's try to convince the threat to all of existence of the error of its ways" approach. That ought to be fun.

FYI, @Jorzan: the Mothermind will not fit in your handy haversack.

Well, I'd tell you how I felt on the matter, but then you'd probably all just do the opposite.

How big is the Mothermind, DRA, and/or it's cage? Is it something that could be carried by one or two people?

Because Cassandra wants us to get into that corridor, "it keeps us warm", plus, the 'The Ice Commeth...', so, you know...

Also, meant to ask this before, but I'm assuming everyone who didn't already have them grabbed some Boots of the Winterlands from all the extras lying around that the dead dudes didn't need anymore?

(I guess that means Justahl, Astar and Jorzan-who def got his)

You cannot carry the Mothermind, it is far too large and far too heavy.

Hey y'all, after my hectic summer, I finally have some down time and so, loving DRA's games as much as I do, I've been checking them like, several times a day. There always seems to be something pertinent for Jorzan to post about, but if anyone feels like I've been a spotlight hog or whatever, please let me know, no hard feelings whatsoever. I can totally slow it down (I think) 8 ]

Well, yes. If Justahl knows they are available he'll definately claim a pair. Trying to move around in the snow in battle was the pits.

Ah, Sir Justahl! Thank you for being a voice of reason.

What? Jorzan was Reasonably trying to free a potentially planet busting creature because he felt it was telling the truth. What's unreasonable about that??

Nice! You guys, the argument about what to do with the Mothermind was really well done. Bravo! Awesome job!
