Hi all - epecially Aurelian, of course!
I am back after much time in hospital/off work etc. Doctors have found something to help with symptoms so I am improving and have been able to begin eating (having not eaten for nearly a month!)
So sorry for this - it was a very unexpected and mysterious illness. Im back full time at work on Tuesday, so will post tomorrow (Monday) here!
I have begun reading the bits I've missed, but its taking a little while and my brain is still not working so forgive any silly mistakes I make in my first few posts whilst I get back into the swing of things.
Cant wait to tart laying with you all again. Thank you all for your patience, and sorry for making this pause.

Welcome back, Inara!

Fleur's still active on her Facebook page. You'll probably get a faster answer there.
Aurelian Fache |
I'd say at this point, we're better off just moving on without her. It's been a month since her last post, and if she's well enough to post elsewhere, I assume she's lost interest in playing here.
Five characters (especially since one has a buddy) is more than enough for an AP.
Sorry if that's harsh; I get very frustrated by unexplained PBP disappearances.
Ashlyn Orellis |
That's fair.
Sarine Dulciare |
We were having some discussion about Swim rules in the other thread. Just in case we're not all clear: a successful Swim check lets you move half of your speed (20' for Sarine, 15' for more others, 10' for Jenner) as a full-round action. The speed reduction really is 1/4, but the Core book phrases it weirdly. One move action will only get you half of the amount above.
What I was saying in the rules discussion before that is that you only get one Swim check per turn and it applies for the whole turn. No need to make a second check for your second move action.
It's a way off for Sarine still, but I'm looking forward to picking up Touch of the Sea.

Just wanted to share that my first Campaign Setting work for Paizo is finally out!
I contributed the write-up of the Formidably Maid for Inner Sea Taverns, which was released on Wednesday.
Jenner 'Holystone' |
Major congratulations, Mott!
Ashlyn Orellis |
Since Ashlyn's got hands to spare, she can hang onto the everburning torch unless someone else wants it.
Ashlyn Orellis |
Advanced Warning: Tomorrow is both of my kids birthdays, so I probably won't be able to make a post. Also, Saturday is their birthday party, so I probably won't be able to post that day either.
Thanks!
Aurelian Fache |
Similarly, I'll be gone Friday evening (March 9) through March 20 to visit my wife outside London. I should resume posting March 20 or 21, jet lag permitting.

Also, I'm starting to get a little concerned about our momentum. I think we've got a good group of players and characters, but posting rates have slowed down a lot. I was fine taking a break obviously while Evie was sick, but GM Nikolaus, I worry that one post a week is going to lead to the game dying. I know it's hard for me to remain invested at that rate. I hope we can pick things back up as I really like Aurelian and would very much like to keep playing with him!

Fair point Aurelian - I'll see what I can do about it!

I know I've been kind of slow to post, too. While the GM sets the tone of the pace, it makes a difference if someone (i.e., me) doesn't post promptly. Sorry about that, I'll try and keep up better.

That's true. Thanks, Jenner.
I probably sounds utterly repetitive, but I truly believe PBP is a vicious cycle, both good and bad. Player posts lead to GM posts lead to player posts. Anyone falls down, it collapses. (That said, I know I like a daily post pace; the games probably can go at a slower pace if everyone is cool with that, but I personally lose track of what's happening.)

Ouch! So ... I can certainly come up with another character — I mean that killed Aurelian pretty dead. And while I don’t like character death, if there are no consequences then what’s the point?
But if everyone can’t live without Aurelian and we want to say there’s a single scroll of raise dead or something along those lines with the colony, I won’t complain about that either. Don’t hold up the game for two weeks for me.
GM Nikolaus 'the Grimm' |
As I just said in the PM - I'm open to us 'hero pointing' the death so that Aurelian 'avoids death off screen' and can be heroically rescued on -lots, or you're welcome to make a new character. I can do introductions reasonably easily (and maybe send Fleur along on anything done in the next two weeks to keep numbers up...)
I'm happy to be lead by you guys here - so let me know!

PMs aren’t loading for me right now (crappy internet connection) but I’m also willing to see what others have to say. At the very least I suggest Aurelian be in a coma for a bit so you don’t have to DMPC me for two weeks.
I have another character that could probably be slotted in. He’s actually a sailor so we could retcon him in as having been a crew member who decided after seeing the new place he wants to stay. He’s not as zany fun as Aurelian (but not sure anyone is) but could fill a similar frontlines role I think. On the other hand, Aurelian is a ton of fun to play...

OMG, Ashlyn's going to be devastated when she sees Aurelian dead (or mostly-dead.)
inara14 |
I'd be very sorry to see him go! He certainly adds to this party a lot and would be happy to see him stay in some way if Mott wanted it too.
Sorry about my post rate, but unfortunately it is going to stay that way for a little while (til Easter) as I am snowed under (working ridiculous hours each week - 50 is the minimum at the moment, but its usually much higher!)
GM Nikolaus 'the Grimm' |
Looks like consensus in on 'hero pointing' the issue then. In fact, I'll put hero points into play full stop.
You all now have 2 Hero Points! Except for Aurelian who has jsut spent his! Add these to your character sheet and check out the rules if you haven't seen them before!

Aurelian can hand down his studded leather if anyone wants it; otherwise he'll donate it to Perrell Bays and the colony at large.
Ashlyn Orellis |
I'd pass it on to the colony.
Aurelian Fache |
Did anyone want to claim any of our loot:
* steel flask full of whisky, engraved with an elaborate R probably a former colonist's; anyone drink whiskey? If not, maybe try to get it returned to its owners next of kin when the Peregrine returns?
* a silver mirror with a rose motif (150gp) Sell, next chance we get
* two vials of defoliant probably doesn't matter who holds on to it; one might actually be good for Aurelian in case we run up against some plant critter that's not easy to hurt with piercing weapons
* four star candle fireworks probably not Aurelian or Sarine, are we're likely to be using melee weapons; then again, could be scattered among everyone, as backup/emergency choices. Probably should be in a watertight sack, though, which would cry for a single person to hold them.
* a thunderstone Anyone?
* a meridian belt Can benefit anyone without another belt, assuming we find rings. I'd assume Sarine and Aurelian will eventually seek out stat-boosting belts, so maybe Ashlyn?
* a somewhat stained shield cloak. Anyone? I've already got a buckler and I'm not sure I can use this with my swashbuckler abilities. I think Sarine's going two-handed. Jenner? I think you're using a one-handed weapon... If not, maybe Ashlyn or Evie.
Ashlyn Orellis |
Hmm... Ashlyn will take the thunderstone and the meridian belt. But, if anyone ends up with more than two rings, let me know and you can have it.
As for other gear... If Jenner doesn't want the shield cloak, I'll use it. She's got no interest in anything else.
Also, I just found out my neighbourhood won't have power tomorrow, so I won't be online. Bot me as needed! Thanks!
Jenner 'Holystone' |
Sorry, meant to weigh in on last tonight. Ashlyn is welcome to have the cloak, I already have a buckler.
Aurelian Fache |
FYI, I'm heading to a wedding in New England this weekend. I'm not sure what my posting availability will be Friday-Tuesday, though it's possible I do have time to post each day as I'll be staying at my parents' house ... and they happen to be out of town. :/
Ashlyn Orellis |
Hey, guys. My power's going to be down again tomorrow. Hopefully this is the last time. Bot me if necessary. Thanks.
Aurelian Fache |
I'm heading to PaizoCon on Thursday, which means I'll probably have limited posting until next Tuesday or Wednesday (I may still get a chance to post tomorrow and Wednesday but am not sure I'll have time).
